Jdeveloper install on os x lion (10.7.5)

Hi,
I'm trying to install jdeveloper 11.2.3 on os x lion (10.7.5).. I followed the directions "Installing JDeveloper on Mac OS X Lion" by Shay Shmeltzer and I was not able to go pass the JDK selection. I also followed Chris Muir thread on this topic but I was unsuccessful.
Here are the java details
java version "1.6.0_37"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_37-b06-434-11M3909)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.12-b01-434, mixed mode)
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks In Advance,
Shree.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your help but I'm still having difficulty installing this
1) Install the Java JDK by opening Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences
Looks like with the recent update , apple took away this app. So I cannot use this one
2) Follow section 8 in our guide: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/install.1111/e13666/ojdig.htm#BDCFFEJC
Followed all the steps in section 8.. Please see the following.
Shree-iMac:Home shree$ pwd
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home
Shree-iMac-iMac:Home shree$ cd jre
Shree-iMac-iMac:jre shree$ ls
lib
Shree-iMac-iMac:jre shree$ cd lib
Shree-iMac-iMac:lib shree$ ls
rt.jar
Shree-iMac-iMac:lib shree$ ls -ltr
total 8
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 28 Oct 29 18:24 rt.jar -> ../../../Classes/classes.jar
Shree-iMac-iMac:lib shree$ pwd
/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/jre/lib
Please let me know If I'm missing anything.
Thanks,
Shree.

  • How can you install Mac OS X Lion on a new, empty hard drive?

If the only way to install Mac OS X Lion is by downloading it via the Mac App Store, it's going to be very difficult to put it on a brand-new hard drive unless Apple provides us with workarounds,So what should we do when want to install Mac OSX Lion on new HD?
    ThanQ

What you get from the Mac App Store will be an Installer Application. You will be able to transfer that Installer from Mac to Mac. I have not seen it yet, but we may also be able to burn an installer disk, we shall have to see just how things work.
Apple has always been known as an innovative company. And when they announce something new folks always go nuts with reasons that this cannot work. When Apple stopped making Macs with floppy drives and iMacs only had optical drives, people went crazy. Today no one makes computers with floppy drives.

  • Can I install Snow Leopard over Lion to install old software after hard drive crashed?

My hard drive crashed and I lost everything.  I have a new hard drive, but when the repair shop installed my operating system, they installed Lion and I no longer have my prior updates.  My computer had been updated a few times.  I have a lot of software that only can be installed up to 10.7 such as Adobe Photoshop Elements 10, Office Mac 2011, etc.  I was wondering if I installed Snow Leopard over Lion, would I lose Lion?  Should I install Snow Leopard and then Lion again?  I don't want to damage my like new computer and I don't want to have to go out and buy all new software.  Is there a solution?  Thanks in advance!

Sounds complicated!  If I repartition the drive and install Snow Leopard onto the blank volume, will Lion still be there?  Or, will the computer basically have two operating systems that I have to go back and forth from.  Is this something a novice like myself can do?

Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups. If the lower left, there is a lock icon. Click on it and type in your password to make changes.
Then, select the account you want to remove and press the - symbol.

  • My Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. how to why install OS X Mountain Lion ?

my Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. how to why install OS X Mountain Lion ?

    How?
Upgrading to Mountain Lion - http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade
Mac OS X: System requirements for Mountain Lion (10.8) - http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Lion and Mountain Lion application compatibility - http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Kappy 08/2012 post on upgrading to Snow Leopard, then Lion or Mountain Lion -  https://discussions.apple.com/message/19401628 - including how to get Snow Leopard and Lion since Apple removed them from the online store.
MacBook upgrade possibilities - https://discussions.apple.com/message/19577869 - "The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion."
Why?  Good question.  I am a strong believer in not upgrading just because something new comes out, especially if you are running older equipment.  I would say unless you see a need for it, just stick with Snow Leopard until something comes along that absolutely requires Mountain Lion.

  • I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD as far as I know.

I'm going to install SSD in my Macbook pro, how do I install for example OSX Lion? I dont have any CD with OSX Lion as far as I know.

Ideally, you should clone your HD as Bimmer 7 Series explains.
However, if your computer originally shipped with Lion or Mountain Lion, a clone is not necessary to merely reinstall OS X. OS X Internet Recovery will create a recovery partition, download the installer package, and install it on a completely empty SSD or HD.
Even if your computer shipped with Snow Leopard, it may be eligible to download a firmware update that creates the same ability: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4904

  • Black screen and looping after installing and updating Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 2011 13 "i5 2.4Ghz

After first installing the new Mountain Lion upgrading Lion on my Macbook Pro was a little slow, so I decided to format and install Mountain Lion via a thumb drive. After installation on my Macbook Pro was restarting all the time and showing a black screen with codes on the screen. I decided to reformat and reset the PRAM, and that seems to have worked. Occasionally a black screen appears with the codes and my macbook restarts again. Last night I updated the Mountain Lion and error and looping retornartam. I thought I had lost all my works, do more entered in the login screen. I turned off my macbook, went to sleep and this morning I called and finally worked Do not know what's going on in my friends' macbook not occur this problem. The macbook them is the 2011 13 "i5 2.0Ghz and another 2010 and they both work perfectly with the Mountain Lion.

    Is there a hardware problem?
    thank you

Before you upgrade, make sure all your software supports it based on post July, 25, 2012 reports on

Reports prior to this date are unreliable, as they are likely with beta releases of Mountain Lion to developers. Other pitfalls to realize include:

  • Unable to install OS X Mountain Lion after HD clean...PLEASE HELP

Ok, I have two issues and hopefully I can have them resolved here.
I currently live in Italy, the local Apple store recently replaced my HD about 6-8 months ago and I reinstalled all my files using time machine when I took it home.
Recently it began running very slow (getting the pinwheel when I try to simply use Safari).  I took it to an apple store when I was back in America and was told I needed to erase my HD and start over.  When the HD was replaced in Italy, the apple store installed Moutain lion free of charge for me.  After my clean erases, when I try to install Mountain Lion using the disk utilities, I am unable to because apple does not recognize my apple id as purchasing this software.  How to I use my 2007 macbook pro to purchase and download the latest mountain lion when I am only able to get disk utilities to open?
Second issue, since the HD was replaced here in Italy, everything displayed is in Italian.  is there anyway to change it to english so I can understand what it is telling me? I am wearing out my google translate.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

You could try calling apple, 1-800-275-2273, and see if they'll give you a free Mountain Lion, based on your story.
or call the store in Italy and get their Apple ID. But this probably violates something in the User Agreement.
or you could just cough up 20 bucks and buy it. This much aggravation is worth way more than 20 dollars.
when you install it you can specify English.
after you download ML, but before you install it, make an install flash drive with Lion DiskMaker , so you'll have a copy ready next time this happens.

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.

  • Clean install of OS X Lion went from 7GB to 16GB, is this expected?

    Hi,
I'm trying to see if others have experienced this as well?
The whole OS only occupied 7GB (right after install) and after a reboot it reads 16GB.
Is this expected behavior to occupy 2X the storage space?
What is the extra ~9GB being used for?
    Details:
Upgraded from Snow Leopard to OS X Lion:
Did a Clean Install of OS X Lion (10.7.4) on a new external Hard Drive (1TB) - to be swapped later as my new Internal Drive.
    Get Info reads ~7GB
Then I rebooted the MBP and doing a Get Info again, now it reads 16GB!
Tried searching for explanations, but no luck...
    Is this normal?
How much space does a Clean Installed OS X Lion occupy? 7GB, 16GB?
    Thanks for any feedback.
    Mike

  • Do I loose all the contact on my mac if I install OS X Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I want to install OS X Mountain Lion but I wonder if I loose all the content i.e. file and program that I have already on my mac. In that case I have to make backup of all the contents.

If you have Lion and use iCloud for Contacts and Calendar, then they will still be there after installing ML.  If not, then it would be a good idea to archive them.  Go to File>Export>Addressbook archive for Contacts and in iCal the same File>Export.  Put these files in a backup folder somewhere for safe keeping.  I do the same for Safari bookmarks, Google Earth Places etc, because it can be a bind to lose all your hard work.
Having said that, Setup Assistant will normally transfer your data to the new OS during the installation process without problems.

The reason Win 7 looks bad is because of your poor monitor.
I run Windows 7 on my 1920 x 1200 pixels 17" MacBook Pro and it looks just as good as OS X.
The secret is to get a monitor with high pixel per square inch resolution, then any picture or graphics looks great.
Nearly all the available eye candy on OS X is available on Windows with hacks.

Windows has more software and it's versions are supported for a decade on average, the hardware is significantly less expensive and in the towers, customizable.
Apple just displays all fancy in one package and then charges 3x the price for the same performance as a PC.
Your not missing much, there isn't any compeling need to run OS X on your PC, it's a hassle anyway.
