JDF Option while Exporting PDF
Hello All,
Under CS4 while exporting the PDF I want to enable the JDF option through plug-in. Has anyone tried doing the same. Where to look for in SDK. Would be great to get any help on this.
Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Farzana.
Dov Isaacs, Adobe Principal Scientist, and maybe the most knowledgeable person about this at Adobe wrote this in 2008:
"(1) InDesign 4 (=CS2) attempted to avoid CID encoding as much as reasonably possible, but there were no changes in this for InDesign 5.
(2) Use of the Distiller to produce PDF either from InDesign or any other application does NOT guarantee that you won’t get CID encoding. In fact, the Distiller uses CID encoding for optimization its conversion of PostScript to PDF.
(3) CID encoding has been an integral part of both the PostScript specification since 1996 (although it is supported by most PostScript Level 2 devices) and the PDF specification since PDF 1.3 (Acrobat 4 – 1999). In reality, if a print service provider (or a content creator) is using software that is NOT CID-encoding compatible, it is saying that software is being used that is also most likely incompatible with ICC color management, transparency, layers, and JPEG2000 image compression. This is a recipe for disaster for print customers. If your print service provider has problems with CID encoding, you should seriously question whether your print service provider is competent to handle your 21st century print needs with 20th century workflows and tools!"
For reference, see this InDesignSecrets.com posting in 2008:

Newbie here: best sizing option while exporting for print?
What is an ideal/standard option for exporting and sizing a photo for print when you don't know if they will print 4x6, 5x7 or 8x10? Is there a good option that will consider anything? Bottom line: best sizing option while exporting? Thanks
If you don't know the size that someone will print at, then you don't resize at all. Leave the Resize to Fit box unchecked in the Image Sizing portion of the Export dialog box Let the person doing the printing do the resizing (if necessary)

Save options while exporting to pdf
I do export in pdf often, and each time I see 3 checks (Pring each stage of build, add borders.., Include date), which are very annoing, since I don't need them at all and have to switch off all this great features. How to switch them off permanently?
You can minimize the margins considerably by unchecking two options and having your image slightly larger than the slide (there is a limit, of course).
By using the Print option, the setting you set in the Print Dialogue, stay as you last set them rather than reset each time. This should meet that objective. Try it.
The other choice is to uncheck those pesky boxes each time you Export a PDF.
Good Luck. -
Program quites while export .pdf at the same page.

I need to open a new topic because I can't find anyone who has the same issue.... with the solution. I have created a document with 8 pages. Inside the document are photos with both .jpg and .psd names. Also there are many text. Once I have tried to export it as .pdf of this doc I'n talking about before just for testing and it went well. But this time, when evrything is done, I can't export it !!!! I tried to do a disablebackgroundtxt thing follow the instrution on sm website, it works...but not stop the problem of force quited by the program itself while at the page 7th

Can you export half the pages at a time? If one half exports and the other does not, try eporting half of the half that failed. Keep dividing in half until you isolate a page. I suspect there is a problem with an image on one page.
And in future, please post the crash report on pastebin.com and put a link here. Crash reports make it difficult to navigate the forum. -
How to disable SAVE AS option while opening PDF in browser in OAF
Hi All,
We have created a page with MessageTextInput fields. All the datas are captured and export into PDF format. We have done this through XML publisher. PDF will be generated when we click on Generate button. PDF is getting opened in the IE browser.
The user should not save the PDF, so we need to disable the save as functionality of browser.
Thanks and Regards,

Indesign CC won't print color while exported pdf from the same document can!
Hello,
I tried everything I know. Even reseting indesign..
As I mentioned in the title, when I try the pdf file that I exported from indesign it just works fine.
And I have no problem printing with color in Illustrator, Photoshop or any other softwares but Indesign.
Do I miss something?I'm sorry to say, but I think it's probably a printer driver problem. Unfortunately, HP printer drivers have poor performance with Adobe InDesign. Do make sure you have to latest printer driver version, however.

Indesign hang while exporting PDF
I'm trying to export a high quality PDF for my publisher. It's an Indesign book with 14 chapters. I've exported it many times before for preview. It always hangs on the same page; every time. I've tried changing the illustrations on that page from .ai to .PDF. Same thing.
Funny thing is that when I export the chapter separately, it works fine. What else could it be that is causing this book to quit exporting on the same page every time?If you are able to export in pieces (as in the chapter exports alone), but not all together, it most likely is a system resources problem. It sometimes works to close ID and reopen, then do the export as the first operation. You can also combine individual PDFs into a single file using Acrobat.

Error while exporting .PDF to Excel
I am trying to convert a PDF file to Excel. It is 14.97 MB, but keep receiving an error that the file cannot be converted. The file looks like it may have originated as a Word table or Excel spreadsheet, so it would appear to be ideal for conversion. I have tried to program through Adobe Reader as well as online. Any troubleshooting suggestions? Thank you.
Hi Stacy,
I believe we tried the Word conversion as an intermediate step, and also creating a smaller PDF file to see if that’s the issue. The smaller version worked but was unusable as the formatting was lost. I have a young gal working on it – but so far no joy. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to solve? The PDF is about 1200 pages.
As for the older ExportPDF version, we may as well get rid of that.

PDF/A-1b compliant PDF from InDesign exported PDF
Hi folks. I need to produce a pdf/a-1b compliant pdf from an InDesign document and it is giving me fits. Because InDesign offers no native option to export pdf/a-1b compliant files, I have been exporting my document with the available presets (I've tried all of them), then running the pdf/a-1b conversion in Acrobat. However, this conversion fails every time, usually on font subset and colour issues depending on how I set up the initial export from InDesign. The only way I have managed to get a file to pass the conversion is to export from InDesign, save that pdf as images, rebuild the original pdf from the image files, then run the pdf/a-1b preflight from Acrobat. Trouble is that this results in a serious loss of resolution that I can't have for my purposes. Anyone have any ideas on how I can produce a pdf from InDesign that will pass the pdf/a-1b preflight in Acrobat?
You have to do it in Acrobat Pro after PDF export.

IllegalArgumentException error while exporting report in PDF format
Hi all,
we are using Crystal Report 2008, Java 1.5.22 and JRC 11.8.4.1094 to export reports in pdf format within java.
It is working fine for all reports except for a specific report where it gives IllegalArgumentException while exporting the PDF.

ThanksHello Andrea.
I searched through the SAP Notes for the error that you are encountering. There is an SAP Note that exists titled the following:
1332907 - Report being exported to PDF format using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x runtime, errors with the exception: PdfExporter: caught Exception in PDFFormatter.finalizeFormatJob
Since you may not have access to the SAP Notes, I will extract the details that are mentioned in the note here:
=============================================
Symptom
Attempting to export a report to Adobe PDF format using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x runtime results in an exception.
The exception indicates "PdfExporter: caught Exception in PDFFormatter.finalizeFormatJob"
Environment
Windows 2003
Apache Tomcat 5.0
Crystal Reports for Eclipse version 1.x
Reproducing the Issue
Using the Crystal Reports for Eclipse runtime version 1.x attempt to export a report to PDF format that has the "Repeat Group Header on Each Page" option enabled.
Note: This does not occur if this option is enabled in a subreport.
Cause
When the "Repeat Group Header on Each Page" is enabled for a group in a main report the Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x runtime is unable to correclty format the PDF document which results in an exception.
Resolution
Updating the application to use Crystal Reports for Eclipse version 2.x runtime will resolve the issue.
The most recent updates to the Crystal Reports for Eclipse runtime can be freely downloaded from the SAP SDN Website.
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/crystalreports-java
=============================================
Since you are on JRC 11.8.4.1094 which is Crystal Reports for Eclipse 1.x, this may be the cause of your problem.
I hope that this helps.
Regards.

InDesign doesn't let embed the font while exporting to PDF
I used a font while working on a document in InDesign and later while exporting to PDF I got a warning that the software is unable to include that font.
Is there a way to go around it? It was a free cyrillic font and it's not possible to buy it. I suppose creating outlines is not the right way to go
Thanks in advanceEugene Tyson wrote:
… Most free fonts that I know of don't allow embedding - for this reason it's not a good idea to use a free font. …
I'm no particular fan of so-called “free fonts” — you most often get exactly what you pay for. However, that having been said, in my years of gathering such fonts for debugging and problem solving, in fact very few of them are actually set with the protection bits to prohibit embedding. For TrueType and OpenType fonts, you can readily check outside of InDesign as to whether a font is embeddable in a PDF file. For Windows, right-click on a font file and check the properties; embedding privileges are described in one of the tabs. For MacOS, the FontBook utility can provide the same information for a font.
The problem is that when you attempt to use a font that is physically protected against embedding, you pretty much need to follow the advice given by Eugene. Personally, I would recommend the use a different font option, checking the font prior to using it for your rights to embed it in PDF.
Note that font licensing is legal minefield. Many fonts that are posted on-line are not really free. Some are shareware with restrictions in their written licenses that require payment for commercial use (often in ReadMe files which may somehow be “lost” when such fonts are reposted over and over again) or even pirated fonts (i.e., commercial fonts simply illegally posted on-line).
My personal recommendation is that for any commercial use, you explicitly license your fonts from a known, reliable source to avoid possible legal issues in the future.

HTML Tags escape while exporting to PDF
Hi friends,
I have two columns in my BI report like
Business Group(BG) and OU
Since in the BG column under the edit formula i used the html tags to show each and every BG column value in bold like below
'<b>' || "D1.Company"."Business Group Full Name" || '</b>'
Now the report is appearing fine in answers and dashboard but when i export the same report to PDF i can see the html tags in each and every name of the BG group.
Is there anything to be done to escape these html tags in PDF while exporting.
And also if we give the tooltip for the numeric columns like below under the column properties-->Data format-->Custom like
[html]<p title=\""Employee Count" \">#
And after that if i tried to escape the same report with the tooltip on the numeric column to pdf means, the number values are missing for the entire column in the PDF, but this case is not appearing while exporting the report to pdf if i set the tooltip to the text column, as the values is missing only for the tooltip of the numeric column. What could be the fix for this problem.
Thanks
Regards,
SaroHi svee,
Thanks for the reply.
For an example i tried with the bold option in the edit formula inorder to portray the html tags problem while exporting it to the pdf inspite of using the default bold option within the column properites like u said.
Suppose if i used html tags like
<br>, </br>
in the edit formula section or if i used any other html tags which is not present as a default option in bi like bold. At that time while exporting the report to pdf i can face the issue.
And also i need ur suggestion regarding with the values disappearing for the numeric column if a tooltip is used in it while exporting it to the pdf.

Can customize sequence of file type options while clicking export icon?
In our project, we are using Vs.net2008 + CrystalReport2008 component.
But there's an issue while export reports. We are using the standard CrystalReportViewer and show the "export report" icon on the toolbar. When user clicks that icon, it pop-ups the Export Report dialog for save to a file.
But our customers wish to see the "PDF(.pdf)" at the default file type option not the "(Crystal Reports (.rpt)".
Is that possible to configure inside CrystalReportViewer?
Edited by: Mark Uram on Apr 9, 2009 11:19 AMOnly option is to create your own export button and display then in the order you wish and which export types you want to support etc...
Thank you
