JDK 1.4 - 1.5 and JNI_CreateJavaVM linkage problem?

We've been using the JNI APIs in our code base for years to build our Windows application. The other day, I noticed that we were still using the 1.4 version of the SDK to gain access to the JNI APIs despite the fact that we have long upped our minimum supported JRE version to 1.5. So I'm trying to update our source tree to use the 1.5 versions of jvm.lib and the C/C++ include headers.
The problem is, when I switch to linking with the 1.5 version of jvm.lib, I get the following link error:
error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol __imp__JNI_CreateJavaVM@12 referenced in function ...
This occurs regardless of which set of include headers I use (1.4 or 1.5) and I've verified that no changes have been made to the definition of this function (including supporting macros) in the headers.
I've used the DumpBin program to list the symbols exported by the two jvm.lib libraries, and sure enough, the 1.5 version of JNI_CreateJavaVM shows to be undecorated while the 1.4 version is decorated as in the link error message. That is, DumpBin shows this symbol for 1.4:
JNICreateJavaVM@12
but this symbol for 1.5:
JNI_CreateJavaVM
What am I missing here? This seems obviously broken, but I can't find recent mentions of this problem on any of the forums. Am I missing a compiler option or something that would cause the Windows linker to find the alternate version of the function?
I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on Win XP 64-bit and am using the latest 32-bit version of the 1.5 SDK.

You are probably using the wrong includes in your build step. The includes must come from 1.5 rather than 1.4.
