JDK Upgrade on Fedora 17

I'm getting the following errors when trying to upgrade my jdk7u15 to jdk7u17:

Any idea as to why this happens and how do I fix it would be appreciated.
Thanks

You can ignore the errors. The files named in the error lines do not exist in the rpm package, but are there as .jar files. See my previous answer here:

• Error "need to place tarball in the right location" jre & jdk upgrade

Using pacaur to upgrade seom AUR packages - namely jre and jdk Iget this set of errors, ad infinitum:
Due to a change in how Oracle handles the Java SE License Agreement
you are required to:
1) accept the license and download the tarball (jre-7u4-linux-x64.tar.gz) yourself:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-7u4-download-1591157.html
2) move it to $startdir (/tmp/pacaurtmp-larry/jre/)
-> If saved in ~/Desktop/, ~/Downloads/ or /tmp/, it will be auto-moved for you
-> Press any key to continue..
==> ERROR: You need to place the tarball in the right location
-> Press any key to retry (or Ctrl-C to cancel)..
==> ERROR: You need to place the tarball in the right location
I have downloaded the java tarball and placed it in the correct directory. Still get same errors as above,
any ideas why?

Thanks for your offering. I have a bit of house cleaning and rearranging due
to my knowing I bought the CS4 software and had installed it and thinking
things would work as before I did not realize that by buying and installing
another software program Proshow Producer on an external HD and then
learning from the company that it had to be on C:/ to work properly. That
forced moving other things around, like CS2, CS3 and CS4 and leaving CS on
C:/ then reinstalling Producer as CS works fine for the pictures used in
Producer and all related files on C: as all my other working photos had to
move with the software!! With 5 and a half terabits on 6 external HD's I got
careless and did not properly set things set up as I should have in
anticipation of my current problem and Adobe's programers, not being mind
readers programmed things to look on C: when CS2,3, and 4 lived elsewhere.
It's all a mess but I do have my serial numbers and did discover, thanks to
your Creative Suite Cleaner Tool offering I found a link to Adobe's original
CS4 trial files that I was told by Adobe were no longer available due to CS6
and I can re-download CS4 there and use it since at the moment my CS4 is
hiding from me. I think a clean re-installation should work before running
the 'cleaner' with its' gottchas. I shall send a later follw up when things
are successfully reloaded. If you think of anything else of value, I would
certainly appreciate your knowledge!

• Problems in JDK upgrade while installing patches

Hi ,
I had done a complete installation of EP6.0 SP9 SR1 including Oracle 9.2.0.6 ,WAS6.0 SR1 with KMC . This was done on j2sdk1.4.2_06 . Now to install the patches the guide prompts to use j2sdk1.4.2_09 or higher . I proceeded to upgrade the jdk verison . I took the help of SAP notes 718901 and 731269 . In one of these notes it says
"Option 1:
Edit the instance profile in /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_JC<num>_<host> and add the following line
jstartup/vm/home = <location of the new jdk>
Notes:
Because this setting has precedence over individual JDK settings in the J2EE Engine configuration database and the sdm_jstartup.properties file, the new JVM will be picked up by all processes which are started through the startup framework including the SDM. Manually changing the sdm_jstartup.properties file is not necessary.
The Visual Admin, ConfigTool, and SDM GUI have their JDK configured in the startup batch files. Please change these scripts for the new JDK."
I edited the instance profile as said . I also made changes to sdm_jdk.sh to point to the newly installed jdk version .As suggested in one of the notes I did not delete the older version of jdk . After the installation and making changes to the newly installed version for JDK I restarted the server and all the server nodes are green which gives me the impression that the serccver is up and running but when i try to access the portal page by the URL http://<host>:50000/irj/portal it does not display the page . The error is "page cannot be displayed"
The other problem is I am not able to run the visual administrator tool and the SDM server .
While connecting to the default connection of the visual administrator I get the following error
" Unable to lookup connection default
http://<host>:8101/msgserver/text/logon returned empty list of connection parameters "
While trying to connect to the SDM server the error is
"Could not establish the connection to the server <host> at port 50018: Connection refused: connect "
In the note it is mentioned that for configtool, visual administrator and SDM GUI you will have to make changes in their startup batch files . Where exactly do I need to make the changes because I could not locate any piece of code in their start batch files (.sh files) which is pointing to the JDK installed on the server machine . Can you please help me locate those files where these changes are to be made .
Regards
Deepak Singh

I would Google/search on SDN with query for more information.

Hi,
According to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/eol-135779.html public updates for Java7 ended in March last year, however, premier support continues until July 2019 and extended support until July 2022. Sustaining support continues indefinitely. So you should be supported with JDK1.7 for a while. By that time there will very likely be support for JDK1.8 on a WebCenter Sites version.
You should also note that the Sites 11gR1 Jump Start Kit is provided for demo purposes only. It is provided on an as is basis and is not a supported product SKU.
The current Jumpstart kit will likely not work with JDK1.8. If you want to use it you should use JDK1.7. You can have multiple versions of JDKs installed. You can use JDK1.7. for the Jumpstart kit and use JDK1.8 for other things.
I hope this addresses some of your concerns.
Kind regards,
Stephan.

• Sun JDK installed on Fedora 8 but it is not there

I installed the Sun JDK SE rpm package on my Fedora 8 machine with installation instructions . But when I verify the installation by :
# java -version
I get,
java version "1.7.0"
IcedTea Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0-b21)
IcedTea Client VM (build 1.7.0-b21, mixed mode)
where as I expect (it shoud hhave been) something like:
java version "1.6.0_01"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_01-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.6.0_01-b06, mixed mode, sharing)
The rpm query output shows me the installed JDK (jdk-1.6.0_05-fcs).
Have I missed something during installation? How can I get it working?

Roedy Green [describes it|http://mindprod.com/jgloss/icedtea.html] as "Red Hat’s bundling of the OpenJDK version of Java for Linux. They can’t call it Java, JDK or OpenJDK because Sun has these trademarked. Red Hat can use the code, but not the trademarks under GPL."

I installed jdk-1_5_0_08-nb-5_0-win-ml.exe. There is now two JDK directories JDK1.5.0_0[18] , jre1.5.0 and jre1.5.0_0[12468].
But the environment variables did not get changed.
CLASSPATH=.;C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
javabin=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_01\bin
JAVA_HOME=C:\PROGRA~1\Java\jdk1.5.0_01
QTJAVA=C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
I was expecting one of the updates to correct the environment variables. Or at least a document that explains what needs to be done. I am confused by the JRE vs JDK and what should point to which.
Can anyone clarify this or point to a doc that does?

Java installs do not create or update MS's environment variables - do that manually, as explained in the Java Installation Instructions.
And note that your installed the Netbeans - Java combination package,
jdk-1_5_0_08-nb-5_0-win-ml.exe
Uninstall all but the most recent JDK and JRE version, and point the variables to them.

• Warning message after upgrade to Fedora FC3

After upgrading a Tarantella server to FC3, I get the following message

Starting Tarantella server (version 3.30.907). Please wait...
Warning: bad syntax, perhaps a bogus '-'? See

Tarantella services are now available on this host.
Tarantella seems to work alright - is this something I should be concerned

Thanks Bill - we are going to be upgrading to SGD 4.0 so I just wanted to be
sure that we aren't going to take any unresolved bugs with us

• J2ee Can't start after JDK upgrade on system with Wily Introscope

Hello All,
For one of our portal server java patching is done from java 1.4.2.22 to java 1.4.2.25. And on this server Wily Introscope is installed. As per SAP when ever we upgrade java we need to re-create "AutoProbeConnector.jar" and update the JAVA VM parameters in configtool.
I know the procedure to re-create "AutoProbeConnector.jar" if the Introscope agent is installed manually .
Below are the steps to be followed to re-create if it is manual type.
i)Re-create the AutoProbeConnector.jar file
>wily>connector
java -jar CreateAutoProbeConnector.jar -jvm /opt/java1.4 -output
AutoProbeConnector.jar
Output file AutoProbeConnector.jar created.
ii)Setting Java vm parameters through configtool.
Xbootclasspath/p:/usr/sap/ccms/wily/connectors/AutoProbeConnector.jar:/usr/sap/ccms/wily/Agent.jar
Dcom.wily.introscope.agentProfile=/usr/sap/ccms/wily/IntroscopeAgent.profile
-Dcom.wily.introscope.agent.agentName=<AgentName>
But my systems Introscope agent is created automatically by SDM agent.if this is the case we need to re-execute the Introscope agent setup again to re-create the AutoProbeConnector.jar file.
Can you any one tell me the procedure to do this activity, if possible with steps and the paths to be followed.
Classpath parameter file which says it is installed automatically.

Hello Jansi,
Thanks for the update.
I have gone through the document, and currently i require to update the Introscope Agent via SMD.
In the document it is mentioned as the navigation
Launch the Introscope Setup application: Diagnostics Setup > Managed Systems>Introscope Agent.
These are the below doubts i have.
1>How should i enter to "Launch the Introscope setup application"
2>and then followed by Diagnostics setup.
Kindly help me in detailed navigation, for example to which server i need to login(is it the Enterprise Manager server ?)
Awaiting your reply.
best Regards

If I modify the start-jvm file so that NSES_JDK points to an older version of the JDK ( /usr/Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_07 ) ... or a newer one ( /usr/j2sdk1.4.0_02 ) ... then the admserv instance starts up.
Having said that, in an effort to try to replicate the problem, I tried the same JDK upgrade on another Solaris8 SPARC installation, also with iPlanet 6.0 SP4. That one worked fine with any problems. The admserv instance started fine after the upgrade.
The only different thing that I did was:
1) I first told iPlanet6 to point to a different JDK location ( JDK 1.3.1_03 in /usr/j2sdk1_3_1_03 ) before the upgrade ....
2) restarted the admserv instance ...
3) install JDK 1.3.1_07 ( /usr/j2se )
4) told iplanet6 to point to the JDK 1.3.1_07 ( /usr/j2se )
5) restart the admserv instance
Why would it not work with one installation and not the other ?

This maybe the final clue. I did a truss via:
truss -f ./start -start 2&> err
... and this is what I get just before the NoClassDefFoundError exception ( look at the SIGSEGV ):

• Upgrade JVM in sun java system application server

Hi:
Recently I've been trying to deploy some new applycation in my sun java system application server 9 running on solaris 8. When I attemp to do it the server throw me a exception because the server jvm is older than my pc jvm. Then I follow the steps I find in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19501-01/819-3653/819-3653.pdf to upgrade the jvm in the server, however the exception persists. It seems like I have not do anything. Can anyone help tell me how to upgrade the jvm ?

You need to delete all the files under the 'generated' directory to force the server to recompile them after the JDK upgrade. Also check in domain.xml and make sure the JVM parameter is pointing to the JDK that you have installed. It is also worthwhile to check asenv.conf to see which JDK that file is pointing to as well.

• Patches for JDK 1.5.0_14?

Forum Moderator and Update Connection users:
Last week, Sun released an update of the JDK to version 1.5.0_14.
Although I could download and install it separately, I've been relying on updatemanager to apply JDK upgrades as patches. If I am not mistaken, those have been patches 118668 and 118669 for the 32-bit and 64-bit JDK, respectively. I believe that the latest patches in this series are 118668-14 and 118669-14 which patch to 1.5.0_13 (it appears as if it took both the -13 and -14 patches to get the JDK delivered ....).
In any event, I'm a little surprised that patches to upgrade to JDK 1.5.0_14 haven't yet appeared so I thought I'd check:
1. How long does it normally take to go from the release of a JDK in downloadable form to have it available as a patch?
2. When can we expect JDK 1.5.0_14 to be released as a patch?
3. If I simply download and install the latest JDK myself will this somehow confuse smpatch and updatemanager or will they continue to notice and supply future releases in patch form?
Thanks for your help,
John

Patches 118668-14 and 118669-14 were fixes to patches 118668-13 and 118669-13 for change request 6609269 so both sets are for Java 1.5.0_13.
I do not have details on when the 1.5.0_14 patches would be available but would assume soon.
Installing the Java download bundle should not affect Update Connection.
