I just have just downloaded Mountain lion and I wanted to listen to music on my computer screen with my HDMI cable plug into my back of my screen and I wanted to talk to dictation on my regular standard iPhone headphone and I was wondering if it's all possible change your settings Mac Mini to set it so you can listen to those both like your headphones and use the mic in your headphones and there's no settings that would change in the Mac Mini so do there is a flaw in this system or I am just really really really really dumb.
You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

I installed 6.0.2 on OS10.7.5 and now Safari won't open. 6.0.2 is just for Mountain Lion. How do I revert to 6.0.1?
I do have a cloned back-up, so I tried to just copy Safari 6.0.1 back onto my main drive—wouldn't work. Got a message that the System needs Safari and I can't touch it.
I'm trying to find a simpler way to revert than clone backwards, which takes a lot of time. And actually I never use Safari. I'm a Chrome user.
You are correct that I downloaded 6.0.2, rather than using software update. However, with many other pieces of software, if you try to install over the wrong system, you get a message telling you that the installation can't be done. Apple could have saved a lot of trouble by using this message.
I have three machines of different vintage, so one is on 10.6.8, one on 10.7.5 and one on 10.8.2. I am usually pretty careful about software updates and which system is needed. Unfortunately, in this case I used CNET download, and the description of 6.0.2 said it was for Lion and Mountain Lion. -
I just purchased Mountain Lion on the app store, put in new credit card and agreed to terms then nothing happend. How do I know if I purchased this upgrade?
Sometimes if you make a purchase for the first time, use a new billing method (ie credit card) or the App Store terms have changed, I've noticed that you need to press the "Buy" button twice for the purchase to actually go through (ie, you press Buy, you agree to the terms, and you have to press Buy again). You won't get double-charged.
You can check if the purchase is actually downloading by looking in the Purchased tab of the App Store - the Mountain Lion installer will be there if it worked. If not, try the Buy button again.

I have just installed Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard, I now can't open Photoshop?
Hi everyone, I have just installed Mountain Lion over Snow Leopard. The installation went smooth and woks well. Now I find that Ican't open either Photoshop CS or Microsoft Word. I upgraded in order to install Lightroom 5, obviously there is now an incompatability, is there a work around?
If that is the original Photoshop CS, and Word 2004 or earlier, then they won't open because Lion and Mountain Lion do not support PowerPC apps. They must be Intel code. Snow Leopard could run them because it included Rosetta, a PowerPC to Intel (and back) interpreter.
You have a few options.
1) Go back to Snow Leopard.
2) Update your apps to compatible versions.
3) If you have Mountain Lion because newer apps require it then:
a) Install Snow Leopard Server (currently being sold by Apple for $20) in a VM such as Parallels, and then run your PPC apps in the VM.
b) Install Snow Leopard on a separate partition and boot to that version of OS X when you need to use those older apps. -
just loaded Mountain lion, went to about this mac to see if worked, won't open (about this mac) About this Mac is listed, nothing happens when I click on it.
I opened System Profiler by launching it from Utilities.
It comes up with a different name to the admin name though. Maybe that's why it won't open from "About this Mac"?
For example, the computer's name when I set it up using the USB installer stick is "Harry Potter".
But the old MBA that I had was named "js".
When I install programs, it comes up with "Harry Potter", put in password.
However, when I look up the System Profiler information using Utilities, it comes up with "js's MacBook Air (2)".
Does that matter?
Is the name thing causing the problem with the "About This Mac" not opening?
I am really confused about all of this.
The information in the System Profiler is about the newer MBA.
Should I just not worry about this problem? And just open it up from Utilities if I need to look up System Profiler information? -
Just downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to my iMac and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents won't open. What a disaster! What can I do?
To resize the drive do the following:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed. (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss. Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Now boot your computer using your Snow Leopard DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
appears.
5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Follow onscreen instructions to install Snow Leopard. Just be sure you select the new partition you created as the installer's target so you don't erase your Mountain Lion system. -
Just bought Mountain Lion from the app store on my Macbook Pro. In the middle of installion it froze up my computer saying that the installation failed,

I had a similar issue and it was an easy fix for me. First you need to log out of your account completely in the Mac App Store. Quit the application. Re-open the Mac App Store. Click log-in, enter your Apple-ID and password. Now when the screen pops-up that has all of your billing/credit card information on it DO NOT select done. Instead select View my Account, then select View hidden purchases. There you should be able to find iPhoto. Hope this helps if not let me know. I'm still searching solutions for you.

Hello, Thought I had just downloaded Mountain Lion butcannot find any evidence that it was installed. It is not showing as an icon anywhere and is not listed in downloads and is not listed under purchased apps. Have I just sat here for two hours watching a download that didn't happen? I do have a folder of incompatible software that's all.
How do I know it has been installed?Hello and thanks. I downloaded the upgrade again after your reply to be sure and I believe all is operating smoothly now. Your reply gave me some confidence. I suspect I should not have clicked on a 'x' symbol soon after the download which may have accidentally deleted something before the download/installation process had been completed. Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
I've just installed Mountain Lion on my Macbook pro and cannot now open Preview. I've partly solved the reading of PDF documents by installing Adobe Reader, but Preview is also stalling the log out process. Any suggestions how I might solve this annoying trait would be most appreciated. Many thanks.

I just installed Mountain Lion. I'm having an issue on the log in screen.

I just installed Mountain Lion 10.8.2 on my iMac. We have four user accouts on the computer and when you first wake the computer where you would normally choose an account and log in the screen is white. When you move the mouse around it leave a little trail of the log in screen until you find your acct and click on it and then it allows you to log in. Its never done that before, at least until I upgraded. This computer was bought right before Lion came out and I didn't upgrade it right away because I wanted to wait and see how everyone else liked it. I finally upgraded last week and aside from this issue it works great and I love the features but it is really annoying. What should I do? Has anyone else had the problem? I upgraded my Macbook and it hasn't had any problems but I only have one acct on it since my wife and kids don't use it. I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac. But In was dismayed to find that my Canon scanner software (Canoscan LIDE500F)no longer works. Nor do any of my MS offce applications. I tried to use time machine to reinstall Snow Leopard (my previous operating system), but unfortunately my time machine backups did not include system software. Also, the original system install disk that came with my iMac would not allow me to install Snow Leopard in place of Mountain Lion. I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me how to solve this problem.
The reason your Office doesn't work is because it is PowerPC code. If you will upgrade the 2004 Office to 2011 Office then that will work.
I don't understand how you managed to get your Time Machine backup to not backup the system.
Now if you still what to downgrade you will have to erase the disk and reinstall Snow Leopard. Most likely all of your application and then restore your data from Time Machine.
To me it sounds like it would be easier to upgrade your software and stay with Mountain Lion instead.

hi all. i just downloaded mountain lion and it seems to have added an old password for admin at the start up, the old password was removed so all i had to do was press enter and off i go, i cant remember it, what to do now??

You can reset a Password (lost/forgotten) set on your Mac using 'Reset Password Utility' available with OS X Utilities tool. With OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Utilities tool can be generally found on a local hidden Recovery HD Partition if your Mac has one.
To check If your Mac has got a local hidden Recovery HD Partition, start your Mac holding COMMAND + R buttons. If you hold the keys pressed enough and there is a local Recovery HD Partition on your Mac, you will be presented with OS X Utilities window.
Click the 'Tool' menu item and choose 'Reset password'. Terminal window appears. Type 'resetpassword' into it and press 'Enter'. Reset Password window appears with User Account Names available on your Start-up Volume. Select the User Account Name and rest is simple to follow.
One of the advantages of this method is that it does not require any Authorization method such as administrative authentication to reset a password.
NOTE: If your Mac does not have a local hidden Recovery Partition on its system disk, you can create one using Disk Assistant application available from Apple. Search for the Disk Assistant in the support area. -

- Quit all Adobe applications.
- On your startup disk, locate and delete the following folder:
