Jelly Bean 4.2?

I'm thrilled that my phone now has Jelly Bean 4.1.1 and I'm like a little kid in the candy store playing with the new features.  But what about Jelly Bean 4.2?  Will Samsung and Verizon step up and upgrade our device to Jelly Bean 4.2 sometime soon?

stahljo75 wrote:
So Google Released Jelly Bean 4.3 today and my Samsung  Galaxy S3 still dont have 4.2. But my Nexus tablet was updated today. So switching to Nexus as soon as my contract is up. Verizon/Samsung has the worst support.
So impatient.  Samsung has to write the code into the OS for the S3.  Then they send to Verizon to test and verify it doesn't have issues with the phone or the network.  This can all takes weeks or months.

The best version to use is Firefox 17 (it's the stable release). as for best apps, it's all up to you on what you want to use.

  • Jelly Bean - Email AutoSync No Longer Works

I am at Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) on my stock Samsung Galaxy S3.  Since the Jelly Bean upgrade, my e-mail will MANUALLY sync e-mails, but will no longer AUTOMATICALLY sync e-mails per the Peak/Off-Peak schedule for any of my e-mail accounts except for my Exchange account.  I have tried:
Adjusting the Peak/Off-Peak schedules to several different times / schedules.
Changing the period to synch from 1 Month or 100 e-mails to 1 month.
Accessing the Email app via the Applications interface and clearing all data.Step above obviously necessitated re-entering all e-mail accounts.
I have confirmed that Settings>Email(under Accounts Header) shows a green synch icon beside all four of my non Exchange accounts.
I've been messing with this for a number of days now and I'm hitting a wall.  This is not a menu-based configuration issue as far as I can tell AND it worked fine under ICS.
In case someone wants the information to diagnose, the non-exchange Accounts:
2 x @bellsouth.net (associated with my AT&T service, but hosted by yahoo.com service).
    1 x @yahoo.com
    1 x @gmail.com
My settings for synchronization (for all four accounts):
    All days selected.
    Peak schedule: Every Hour
    Off-peak Schedule: Never
    Peak start @ 7:00 AM
    Peak end @ 10:00 PM
    While Roaming: Use Above Settings.
Any suggestions?  (Other than the usual default "Have you tried a factory reset" that would require me to spend a day trying to get everything set back up and is basically a support tree "I can't figure it out easily so let's make your life harder because I can't be bothered" type of solution.)

Mine started @ JB, but in trying to research the problem on my own - I can confirm your observation that people are reporting sync issues across multiple platforms / e-mail providers.  What is weird about it is that on irregular occasions, one of my accounts will actually "sync."  As an example since I wrote the original post - I did get  notification of new emails in one of my accounts - I have purposely not been manually checking my accounts to see what is happening.  Interestingly, When I look at Settings>Email, it shows all of my accounts having been sync'd at 10:00 AM.  So what does that mean?  Sync is partially working, but not consistently (e-mails from across 4 hours came in when it is set to sync hourly) and even within the phone the sync status isn't being displayed correctly.  Something is clearly fubar'd I just don't know what.  (thanks for the advice though)

  • Google Voice Won't Work With Bluetooth Headset After Jelly Bean

I am SO frustrated. I had no idea I was installing the Jelly Bean update when I updated the software on my phone. Note to Verizon Communications team: PLEASE do a better job of communicating significant software updates. I would not have installed Jelly Bean. I learned long ago to stick with factory OS on my phones.
Since the update, I noticed that I could no longer dictate texts and emails. Also, my call recording app no longer worked. I switched to Swype and it would work for a few minutes and then stop.  I could still use my bluetooth headset to make calls and S voice worked (although, like others here, I noticed that it's now worse--it doesn't recognize any contact names I request anymore). After trolling Android forums I found that the problem is with the bluetooth headset. You can still dictate when the phone's bluetooth is on, but when a device is connected, all bets are off.
I almost did a factory reset, but then I read that a hard reset will not restore ICS, nor did it resolve this bluetooth Google Voice issue for the few people who tried it already. In fact, resetting caused more problems (eg., more battery drain and removal of Adobe Flash, etc.).
Does anyone know how I can go back to ICS? Bluetooth and Google Voice are the two features I value most in my phones. This is a NIGHTMARE.

    rcschnoor -
The Bluetooth/Voice Search/Dictation issue is a valid issue for the OP, a valid issue for me and oh yeah, the hundreds of other people affected by the, "Google Voice Search stuck on "Initializing" bug filed here on the Google Android Project page.  Here is yet another reference to the same issue from Android Central.
The "Google Music freezing after Jelly Bean Update on Galaxy S3" is also a valid and documented bug located here also on the Google Android Project page.
So I ask, how does sharing with these people that do have these issues, and are affected by them, that you are not experiencing these issues help in any way?  Isn't that the whole purpose of a community forum to help others?

  • Problems after Jelly Bean upgrade

I upgraded to Jelly Bean when it came available and immediately started noticing problems.  The phone became sluggish in general but most notably the keyboard lagged to the point where texting became problematic.  I was unable to use the gallery app - it would open but pictures either wouldn't load or I couldn't scroll through them.  The camera app also wouldn't scroll through my pictures.  The web browser was sluggish even on a strong wi-fi connection.  I did a factory reset twice and lost a ton of information in the process, in hopes the reset would clear things up.  I ended up going to the store and the rep said he would have a new phone overnighted - which by the way, they gave me a used, sorry, a "certified like-new replacement" phone, not a new one.
Now that I have my replacement I'm reluctant to upgrade this one to Jelly Bean if I'm going to continue having problems.  Are/were these just an isolated problem, perhaps something in the phone itself and not the software, or are these widespread issues that will hopefully be addressed?  I've read on forums all over that people are complaining of battery drain but I didn't have that issue, just the sluggishness and the inability to access my pics.

Jbthompson, I know it can be upsetting when an update that should improve your phone's functionality causes it to have problems. I haven't seen the issues you experienced on most Galaxy S III's. Like TheGuyUpNorth stated, most issues are resolved with a factory reset. Do you know if any of your applications were automatically re-installed after the reset? Sometimes the cause of slowness can be related to applications that were compatible with the old OS no longer being compatible with the new one, or conflicting with each other. If you reset and then the same applications are re-installed, then the problem may arise again. Have you completed the JB update on your Galaxy S III replacement yet? Even if you defer or reject the software update, it may come again at a later date. You want to make sure you are ready to complete the update because if it alerts you in the middle of the night and you don't respond, it may go thru. If the battery isn't charged fully that could cause a problem with the update completing. Please let us know if you have any problems with the replacement and we'll be happy to help.

  • The only way to fix Xperia P problems after the jelly bean update!

After the jelly bean update my Xperia got slow, I could not answer phone calls, the call log took so much time to appear , I have tried uninstalling external softwares , reseting the phone , nothing worked. Finally I have downgraded the phone follwing the guidelines provided in this link - http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/GUIDE-How-to-Install-Jelly-Bean-ICS-Ice-Cream-Sand...
Now my phone is fast , gallery is working fine , I can receive phone calls , no useless chrome by default , the google search widget works fast , the overall performance is much better. So I would recommend people to downgrade their Xperia p to ice cream sandwich and stick with it. OLD is GOLD!

What is your build version now after downgrading to ICS? I could not download 6.1.1.B.1.54 from the list which was best to me.. Please let me know quickly, I'm having the same **bleep** problem in JB.

As far as I know only 3D panorama option is missing. You still should be able to take ordinary panorama pictures.

  • Can't find Firefox Android menu button in Jelly Bean

I always keep Firefox for Android current to the latest version, but since I upgraded my Android to Jelly Bean 4.1.2 in a Samsung Galaxy S2, I now cannot find the Menu button for Firefox anywhere. I am trying to bookmark a page and your instructions say to press on the Menu button and then on the Star button, but though I've done that in the past in ICS, those buttons apparently do not exist for me now.
Your pictures on the Web show a bar at the bottom of the screen with a Menu icon, as well as a popup menu that shows the Bookmark Star as one of the Menu options. I don't have a Menu icon or any other icons at the bottom of my screen. I have the phone's physical Back button on the lower right below the screen and the <phone's> physical Menu button on the lower left below the screen, but when I tap the <phone's> Menu button while I have a page showing in FF, all I get is a long menu of choices beginning with Share, Find in Page, Request Desktop Site, Tools, etc. There are no choices that give me a Star with which to bookmark a page.
Please advise how I can find the Bookmark Star or change the Settings to make it reappear.
    Thank you.

    Hi, Swarnava,
Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, however, the "3 dot" icon you outlined in red at the upper right of the FF screen in the screenshot link you sent simply does not exist on my screen. If it did, I would long ago have tried it and all would be well.
Using your image as an example, the "3" that indicates the 3 open tabs is all the way to the far right on my screen, under the time ("5:19"), and the white Search bar (which in your image shows "Add-ons") is wider, taking up all the space to the left of the "3." That "3 dot" icon for the menu just isn't there (or anywhere else that I can find). That's why I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to get into the menu.
I really appreciate your response and hope that you or someone can come up with a way to make my FF menu key reappear. If no other solution is available, I guess I'll have to uninstall FF, then reinstall it and hope for the best.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Possible update solution for some Jelly Bean issues on Razr Maxx

I bought a Razr Maxx used two weeks ago and wanted to a post a possible solution to the broken Jelly Bean update. My Razr Maxx (practically new) was slow, lagged, and gave me about 10 hours of battery life. Also, my Wi-Fi was horrible just 10 feet from the wireless router and it ran hot.
Before I chucked it for a used S3 I decided to do what others had done. Keep in mind, the phone had been previously factory reset after the JB update had been OTA'ed to the unit a few months ago. It was put in a drawer as the person bought a new phone.
So to be clear: It had gone through a factory reset but without clearing internal memory and had serious issues. I had cleared the Dalvik cache but it didn't help. Here's what fixed my phone:
I did a battery recalibration. This can be done by running the phone down to zero. Shutting it off and charging it overnight. This may have to be performed twice.
Backed up my files, removed the mSD card and from the OS, erased the internal storage. I also went into the Settings / Privacy and set Automatic Restore to off.
I cleared the Dalvik Cache again.
    http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-maxx/232462-how-wipe-cache-without-doing-factory-reset.html
    I  booted into safe mode.
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=50079
From the OS within safe mode, I performed a factory reset and had it clear the internal storage again.
    Started the setup process.
    Cleared Dalvik Cache again.
The result is a smooth "buttery" feel (well, as smooth as this platform can offer) no massive lagging like before where the phone would just lock up for five seconds, no over heating, WiFi is seemingly normal and battery life is Maxx instead of Min. To give you an idea, the phone had been on light use and on for maybe 13 on battery when I did the reset. I did the hard reset from a 65% battery and reinstalled all the apps over WiFi and reconfigured. At 2:30 a.m. it was at 1 percent so I set the screen to 100% brightness and played a video until it died about 3 a.m. Basically the screen was on and the phone being used from around 9 p.m. until 3 a.m. after coming off the charger at 8 a.m. the previous morning.
Will this work for you? I don't know but I know the Jelly Bean in place upgrade on this phone is pretty flaky from the complaints.
If your phone has been turned into a pile of junk by the update, you have nothing left to lose unless you're just using it as a bargaining chit to get a new phone from VZW.
Good luck to anyone who tries it.
If you are trying to diagnose battery issues, I recommend GSAM.

  • How do I go back to Jelly Bean?

I updated to Kit Kat and had the dreaded battery issue. I did a factory reset to go back to Jelly Bean and it did not, it installed Kit Kat again. I had high hopes that the 'fresh' install would fix my battery problem, it did not.
On Jelly Bean I would take it off charge at 4 AM and be at 40 to 50% remaining at the end of the day 9 - 10 PM. Now, I recharge it around noon.
I want Jelly Bean back... how do I get it back?

    yMidnite wrote:
I have heard that, but was hopeful Verizon would step up and have another plan. With all the issues, Verizon should give this as an option.
Why is it that when upgrading to KK, it takes out the original OS. None of the others upgrades did that. I reset one phone that was running ICS and it went back to Ginger Bread.
As far as I know since 2009 and the first Android device on Verizon Wireless, you have never been able to officially revert the OS version to the previous version. Same goes true for other android devices on other carriers and wifi only devices.

  • AT300 Jelly Bean - No Users option in settings?

    Hi All,
I was hoping with the new Jelly Bean update we could use User Profiles in Android but I don't see the "Users" option in settings which is where it should be.
Anyone else having the same issues? or have a solution?
    Thanks

I believe user profiles don't come into JB until 4.2.
Although on the childrens tablet, Kurio, it has a heavily modified android OS that can allow user profiles.

Hopefully Toshiba will release 4.2 soon.

  • Jelly Bean upgrade for AT300 3G model

Hi. I read an old thread (1 month ago) that JB has not been rolled out to AT300 with 3G due to some modem driver issue. Does anyone know when will this be fixed and when JB update will come for 3G model?.

    Dear mates,
Stuck with the same issue like the most of you - 3G version AT300-105 with "smashing" 4.0.3 Android on it and with no apparent update in sight.
I am really disappointed with this as I need this device for work and to make matters worse, some of Android features I need are full of bugs on this version.
This is a expensive 650 euro tablet from a well-branded manufacturer, not some 80 euro low-end from an unknown manufacturer and I believe the former ones receive better support than we do. For this amount of money I could have purchase just about anything else. too bad I got suckered in for full SD card slot.
I read most of your posts and I am insulted by the "3G driver issue" which was stated . As a customer I could not care less about this excuse. It is Toshiba's hardware, their engineers chose it, and they should deal with it. Just to remind dear friends in Toshiba that there were three major Android updates since their initial release for this tablet:
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (API level 16)
Android 4.2 Jelly Bean (API level 17)
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean (API level 18)
Android 4.4 KitKat (API level 19)
They had four releases after the initial one to fix the modem issue and I sincerely doubt they even bothered to try.
If they really cared they could have gone with issuing the newer release without modem drivers with warning for customers and possibility to roll back if wanted, but no, it is easier to use such petty excuse and do nothing. Shameful and disrespectful to buyers. If they don't do anything positive, which I doubt as I have this product for over a year and nothing was done, this will probably be the last thing I ever got from this company.

  • Jelly Bean Upgrade & Battery Life

Not sure if Battery Life was part of the Jelly Bean upgrade or if I had something running that was killing my battery which has been killed by Jelly Bean, but in the 12 hours I have used this since I upgraded, I have noticed that my battery is still almost fully charged despite the increase in activity as I play around with the new OS.  I normally am limping at 10-15% battery life by this time of day and I still have 60%.  Woot!!! I hope today was not fluke and this continues.
Anyone else notice the same thing?

  • Jelly Bean upgrade failed.

I got the Jelly Bean upgrade this morning but once I activated the upgrade it failed and gave no reason.  Where do I find the upgrade in order to try it again. Motorola Razr.

leeder46, let's get a passing grade for the software update. First, I recommend that you delete any unwanted information from your phone to ensure that you have enough memory capacity to accept the software update. For example, uninstall unwanted applications, delete unwanted text message threads, e-mails, and call history. Once you have cleaned your device out, from the home screen, tap Applications > Settings > About phone. You should be provided with the options to update the software.
