Jerky HD footage playback

New work system with a new 5,1 MacPro running 10.6.4 FCP 6.0.6
Started getting very jerky 1080p playback of clips in the Viewer not happening all the time though. This doesn't affect the clips when they are in the timeline though.

Exactly Mr Frog
I have also had problems wit the Viewer today...
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2612742
I can appreciate your views on the sequence preset but when working on a new MacPro and producing 20 & 30sec commercials rendering isn't an issue and as I've mentioned there are other steps in the production line that would be impacted if the export from the timeline was to be a 1920x1080 QT file because I would then have to convert that to my desired format(s) in the rest of the workflow!
There is definitely something going on with the viewer display and how it is displaying clips and even the background viewer (see above thread)
Please note there isn't and has never been a problem with the sequence and playback of the sequence.

  • QT7 install causes problems with 7d footage playback

    Hi
I installed QT7 this week on snow leopard and since then playback of clips shot on my 7d is not smooth. The video locks up but the audio still plays. When transferred to pro res in mpeg streamclip all I get is a totally black film, no audio or video but the playhead moves. All the footage plays fine in the camera so its not a problem with the card.
I have captured footage before using log & transfer and mpeg steram clip with no problems. Playback direct from the CF in the finder was always fine before the upgrade.
Has anyone else had the same problems?
I really need to uninstall QT7 to get back to the set up I had previously but cannot find instructions anywhere of how to do it. Can someone point me in the right direction. Or would QT Pro prove to be an easier fix?
I'm really grateful for any help.
    Thanks
    Adrian

QuickTime Player is designed to drop frames if the viewing machine can't process the data fast enough.
A two minute file that is 2.8 GB's in file size suggests a data rate that would exceed the playback abilities of nearly any modern machine.

  • AVCHD log and transfer jerky jumpy during playback

I've been given some files from a Sony HDR-CX12 to export to dvd. The files playback fine in the log and transfer window but stutter / jump in the viewer window and also when added to the sequence.
    The files provided are

    a AVF_INFO folder
    a DCIM folder
and two locked Unix executable files.

If anyone has any help or tips to get these files playing back properly I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

Do you have Perian installed? I had the same problem, but when I disabled Perian in the System Preferences panel and re-transfered the footage, everything looked fine. Once your footage has been re-transfered, you can re-enable Perian.

  • RED footage playback / paused resolution

    Hey there,
Here's the situation: I have my playback and paused resolution set at 1/16 in order to work comfortably with RED footage. It works perfectly.
However, when I drag a clip in the timeline, and go near another clip, the PROGRAM window converts into a 2-screened edit-type display. And in this mode, the resolution pumps up to FULL res, making the program slow, and hampering all that nice flow that low resolution affords.
Is this a bug, or have I forgotten to click something somewhere?
    Thanks!

I'm not seeing that here.  With all the media I have, it stays at the resolution where I put it.  I do not have any RED media for testing, though.

  • H.264 Footage Playback issue

I have imported some finished files into FCP for editing into a showreel, they are encoded with an H.264 codec, its a HQ/HD video file for Vimeo with 720 x 1280 dimensions. I have imported these into FCP before and had no problems, but after doing an update to FCP recently Ive found that I cannot play these files back in the canvas properly. All that happens is that it plays back the sound and the image stays the same on the frame that I happen to be on at the start. Also when I import into a timeline of the correct dimensions it still asks me to render. Is there a setting I need to check for playback in the canvas?

H.264 is NOT an editing codec. Convert the footage to match your Sequence settings in FCP PRIOR to importing it into your project.

  • 550D Footage playback stutter with fast cuts

    Hey guys,
I'm having a lot of trouble getting PP to play my sequence smoothly. The footage is h.264 wrapped in a MOV container captured with my 550D (MagicLantern Firmware and 1.3x bitrate). The playback of an entire clip works perfectly fine. But when there are a lot of fast cuts, PP just chokes up and starts to stutter really bad.
I have an elitbook with 4GB of RAM, a Quadro FX 550M and a 7200 RPM hdd in this puppy so I'm not sure what the problem is. I read somewhere that I should reimport all my clips with an .mpg extension but that would be a disaster for my sequnce which is already 70% done...
    Ideas?
    EDIT:
I would like to note that mercury hardware playback doesn't make any difference

Single track AVCHD just playing the timeline.
    What does this look like:
It looks like it's time for you to take some of your own tweaking advice there, Harm.  Here's what I got.
    1 stream...
    4 streams
That's from a single drive. Yes, it peaked at around 50, probably to fill the cache, but then leveled off to the expected average of 5MB/s for 1 and 20 MB/s for 4.

  • Jerky, Stop start playback

I have recently bought a Samsung Flashcam SMX-F300. I have taken some footage and played it back in WMP and it is fine but when I import the videos in to Premiere Elements 8 they do not play properly. It starts to play then plays jerlikily and then the video stops and the audio continues.
    I am using MP4 format and I have a 3Ghz processor, a 320GB hard drive with 200GB space and 2GB of RAM.
How can I fix this so that I can edit and watch my videos?

We'll need to know more about your footage, project settings and your computer. The 'got a problem' link below explains what's needed.
What project preset did you select when starting the project? Does it match your MP4 setting? Use the utility GSpot v2.70a to analyse your clip and post a screen capture here.
Do you have a red line toward the top of the Timeline? If so your previews need rendering - press [Enter] and wait for the line to go green.
    For starters look at:
How can I convert my AVCHD footage to more traditional HDV?
What tools can I use to convert my video to DV-AVI?
Got a Problem? How to Get Started
    Also some basics:
    Install all Windows updates
Install latest version of QuickTime (v7.6.7 at time of writing)
Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites
    Run Disk Cleanup
    Run Defragmenter

  • Canon C300 "Highspeed" footage Playback in Premiere Pro CC

    Hey,
I did the other day some tests with the highspeed/slowmotion function of the Canon C300. The highspeed function of the camera is relative (up to 50fps), but it's a nice effect. Anyway, the camera was set up correctly (project framerate 25fps & recording/sensor 50fps), but I am having problems playing the "slowmotion" footage back in Premiere. Basically, Premiere Pro is playing back the footage in 50fps(which makes the slowmotion effect obsolet) even though the sequence settings are set to 25fps.
    Any ideas or similiar problems?

select clip in bin and choose Clip>Modify>Interpret Footage>Assume this frame rate and enter 25fps.  Should play back at correct speed for slow motion now.

  • Jerky Video Web Playback

I've created a .FLV file from Premeire Elements and posted the video on the web. I couldn't, or didn't know what my settings are for streaming video so I chose Progressive video. When viewing the video on the web, it is jerky or hesitant.
Are there settings I can do to eliminate the problem? If switching to streaming video is the answer, I'm unsure of the settings. I've asked my provider if the server we are using is made for streaming video and what the settings should be but their replies are vague and not too helpful. Could someone help me with the settings to be entered in the streaming settings?
    Thanks!
Here is a sample of the video.... http://www.sbvballclub.com/test/test.html

Your video plays OK for me on my internet connection which is 2.29 Mbps for downloads.  I noticed only one small blip during the fade transition, but otherwise it looked fine.
Since I've never used Premier Elements, I can't speak about the settings or quality of output.  It could be you need more frames per second. It could be your internet connection isn't as fast as mine.  You might try using a different Video to Flash encoder.  Some camera's and DVD recorders favor one product over another. It just comes with the territory.
Flash Video Encoder (comes with Adobe Flash)
    Swish Video
    Aone's UltraFlash
    RIVA FLV encoder (free)
I assume your server isn't a dedicated streaming server so you definitely want to use "Progressive Video" option in DW. More info on the differences between true Streaming & HTML Streaming here:

  • Keyframing jerkiness on DVD playback?

I have a still were keyframing is used to gradually desaturate the color and keyframing is used, simultaneously, to move the title horizontally from left to center for the opening title. It plays fine on screen. When burned to DVD it looks slightly sticky in the title's movement and maybe slightly interlaced. Is this the result of keyframing? Someone suggested that Motion can be used to correct the jerkiness... Thanks!

If your sequence does not have Field Dominance: None, it will perform all keyframed movements/filters in an interlaced (i.e. Field by Field) manner.
Your answer may be to change the Field Dominance to None (⌘0 with Timeline selected to alter these settings).

  • Jerky and noisy playback of Motion 5 project

I am having problems with the playback of Motion 5 title projects.  A simple three word title over a short video background plays back in jerks and with a series of clicks.  I have tried rendering at different quality levels with no effect.  When the project is shared into FCPX exactly the same happens, though the same project title made in FCPX plays back smoothly and without jerks.  I should appreciate any help advice.

I would suspect the background movie. In the inspector see what codec it is and if h.264 or some other compressed codec, then take it into Compresssor or MPEG Streamclip and convert it to a Pro Res 422 or Pro Res LT file.
    Good luck.

  • Animation runs jerky, want smooth playback. Help!

I am still new to Fireworks and I'm building a website using

Could anyone tell me how to tweek it so that the text float

  • H264 footage is pixelating on playback

    Hi
Im trying to edit some .mov H264 footage in premioere CS5 but playback in Premiere is always very pixelated. I had to convert the footage using mpeg stream so the footage would work with my pc but playback in Quicktime is fine. Also when I export the footage playback is fine. I cant edit the footage because I can hardly makeout whats going on. If I click propertys in Premiere on the clips im having problems with I get
    File Path: T:\viddy\New folder\493_0560_01.mov
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 54.5 MB
    Image Size: 1280 x 720
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:00:17:19
Average Data Rate: 3.1 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
in movie inspector I get this
As you can see Premiere thinks itss MPEG. Could this be the problem? How do I fix this?
This is what the bad footage looks like
    I have Windows 7, Premiere CS5 5.0.2, Geforce 8400GS, Quicktime 7.6.8, 6 gig RAM, Quad AMD.
    Thanks for any help

Right click on your monitor window and verify playback resolution is set to full.

  • Problems with FCP playback on external LG monitor

I have just purchased an LG 22EA63 external monitor to use with FCP 7. Monitor connects fine, works ok with other programmes but once in FCP , when i transfer both canvas and viewer windows onto the monitor, playback in not smooth with flickering streaks as if the footage is interlaced (even though my current project only has progressive footage). However it gets even worse with other FCP projects that contain interlaced footage - playback on canvas is even more jerky and streaky, and the viewer window is unable to play back most alterations made to clips (especially anyhting to do with motion or speed), making clips  jaggered and unwatchable.
Any ideas what the problem is? I'm assuming it is to do with the LG screens' native resolution which is 1080p , but that doesn't explain why it is failing to play progressive clips at full quality.. Also I couldn't find another resolution setting that worked.
I am connecting via HDMI to a MacBook Pro (2.8ghz Intel Core Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, native screen res: 1440x900).
Obviously if I cant fix this I'll have to take the monitor back, any ideas or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!

I guess it's more accurate to say that there is a dramatic delay in the video between what I'm seeing in the playback window on my computer monitor and what I'm seeing on the external NTSC monitor. The audio does not have that delay, so on the external monitor the audio and video are out of sync. It makes it difficult to show anyone what you're working on, which is what the "client" monitor is supposed to do.

  • Choppy playback in Premiere Elements 12

    Hey,
Okay so I'm trying to create a short film for a class assignment and I'm having trouble viewing back the footage I have. I've been told to look into rendering my footage but I'm not getting a orange band above to render it with. I am aware that if there isn't an orange band then the program has 'decided' that I'm getting the best footage I can get but it's not helping the fact that the footage I want to edit is all choppy.
How can I fix this? I need to know as soon as possible please. Thank you.
