Jerky Play

I have Just Re-Installed Elements 11 into my PC and loaded AVCHD Files into a new project but It does not play in real time video is Jerky

Speedybee
Did you reinstall Premiere Elements 11 as part of an uninstall/reinstall because the program was not working correctly? If so, what problems were you having before the uninstall/reinstall?
Were these same AVCHD files importing and playing back OK on Premiere Elements 11 before the uninstall/reinstall?
Please review the following blog post on problems that can be encountered by letting the program set the project preset for you automatically.
http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
Depending on your details, you may have to do a manual set of the project preset as described in the How To section of the link.
But, let us explore the background information on your issue to make sure that we are not taking anything for granted.
Thanks.

  • Slow load/ jerky playing of music through i-Tunes.

Double clicking on i-Tunes on my desktop used to get it loaded pretty fast, now it takes up to a minute. Very strange. Then, when I play songs the music sounds jumpy, wierdly enough only at the start of the song. On Task Manager it seems as tho i-Tunes is occasionally surging, pushing the CPU use up to 100%, even if no other applications are running. If I do call up another program the music jerks all over the place until its open. Have tried the Quicktime fix that is on this site, but makes no difference. I think it's an t-Tunes problem but not sure. Any ideas? I haven't loaded tonnes of new stuff onto i-Tunes, but it's acting as though it's creaking under the pressure! Music plays on iPod fine still.

Temporarily disable your anti-virus and see if that behavior stops. If it does, then configure the antivirus program to not scan the directory where the iTunes Library.itl file is stored.

  • Burned DVD plays OK on computer but not on DVD player through TV

Did all steps through iMovie to make a DVD. No apparent problems surfaced during the process. The DVDs play fine on the computer but not on DVD player through the television. Suggestions were that I was using the wrong media, that the best was DVD-R. Same problem regardless of which was used: it may play well into the DVD and have problems when selecting a chapter, a slideshow or it can happen between chapters. There's no pattern to when it will malfunction or how it will appear. It manifests itself by slowing, going to jerky play or stopping completely; these problems may or may not be the same on DVDs that are made back to back but there is always a problem of some sort. I redid the DVD without a slideshow but the problem persists. I really don't want to do it without chapters but haven't tried doing it that way.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

    James-
I suggest you try the disc on as many players as you
    can get your hands on.
While it is good to have a player to test the final
disc on, you can't be sure that you're not facing the
    quirks of just ONE player.
Of course this is no help if you only own ONE player.
The one that is your home DVD player. Many people on
these boards will reccomend the least expensive
player to use for testing. Often newer, less
expensive DVD players are more reliable than ones
that cost three times as much.
Have you had any success making DVDs in the past?
Very limited DVD making in the past but no problems such as this.
I really appreciate the responses so far and will look at all options. The DVD is quite full (an earlier response made note that this could be a problem) Since this is a church program that will be used on a vaiety of players, a disclaimer may be included explaining the possible problems.
Interesting that a lesser expensive unit could be more reliable...

  • Jerky movie finished now in Keynote '08

Does anybody know if the problem with playing a quicktime movie (jerky playing) has been solved?

Any more info on movie playback in Keynote '08? I play a lot of .mpgs in Keynote for scientific presentations. I purchased '08 because it gives the option of "click to play" rather than playing the movie on slide advance. Now my movies that still play great in Key '06 play okay in '08, except the last frame always delays, so there is a Jerk at the end of every movie. Setting the stop to an earlier frame doesn't change the problem, just the last frame it ends on with a Jerk. Movie size (2-10 Megs) or duration (10-20 seconds) also seem irrelevent. Looks like I either go back to Key '06 or to Powerpoint. Neither option is very satisfying.

  • IMovie/iDVD help wanted

I have been frustrated when making a DVD from imovie. All works well and the finished DVD plays perfectly on my computer. Problems occur when playing it on a DVD player through the TV. It may play well through 75% of the duration and then freeze up or go into a jerky play situation. This will occur when playing the disc from start or going to that spot from chapter selection.
Trying different media has been suggested, with DVD-R seeming to be the least prone to the problem but still existent. I'd appreciate any suggestions to correct this.
I'm using iMacG5 with Tiger OS
    Thanks to all that reply...

We (at my business) deal with this when putting out
    special event videos on DVD.
We tell folks that THEY must check to see if their
model of dvd player will support burned discs.
There's a list online somewhere of players which play
    dvd-rs.
Honestly, I test my DVDs on a couple of 'Cyberhome'
dvd players which cost me $37. each at a major chain
    store.
Most players boast their versitility on their boxes
    these days.
When it comes down to it, you're not responsible for
the fact that someone else's player can't play a
dvd-r. These things have been around for several
years now. It might be time for an upgrade.
Several good thoughts, thank you. The list of players that will play DVD-Rs will be interesting. One thing I will try is shortening the project, that is putting it on two discs to see if that corrects the problem. If it does, I'll post another message as there may be others with this problem. If anyone disagrees that DVD-R is the best media to use, please let me know.

Anyone having problems with security Update 2007-004??
My video playback in itunes is very slow, skips, or is jerky.

    Hi,
After the 2007-004 update, I was experiencing 'slow-jerky' playing of iTunes songs when trying to play them through my stereo speakers via Airport Express.
A hard reset of the Airport Express fixed the problem.

I have A Asus ATI EAH4670 1G card, but this gives me jerky playing in the editing window, dispite updating all the drivers, It's ok with the driver that came with the card and no video driver but if I take the advise and up date it then it's jerky.
So lets have people tell us what does work could be intresting does any think work? with the this software?

  • I have problems with gameplay(zuma blitz and bejeweled blitz)in the firefox browser window. the game is latent and play is very jerky..can u please help. i played them in the IE8 browser with no problem

i've tried playing zuma blitz and bejeweled blitz in the firefox browser window and the play is very jerky and slow.

Just had the same thing happen AGAIN. Suddenly - a blank iPlayer Desktop which failed to download new programmes. All previous programmes were still in the repository folder. This time the sequence I outlined previously didn't work.
What eventually got things working this time was to reinstall Adobe Air as part of the BBC iPlayer Desktop installation process - and not separately.
    So:
    a) Move iPlayer to trash.
    b) Find and delete the following folder: Users/Yourname/Library/Preferences/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDBBD 723A6DA9D.1
    c) Find and delete the following folder:
    Users/Yourname/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/BBCiPlayerDesktop.61DB7A798358575D6A969CCD73DDB BD723A6DA9D.1
    d) Find and delete the following folder:
    Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository/cache
    e) Find and run: Applications/Utilities/Adobe AIR Uninstaller
    f) Empty the Trash. I found that bits and pieces of BBC iPlayer were still running despite having been quit and dumped in the trash - and so it wouldn't allow me to complete this part. Restarted the computer, then empty the trash.
    g) Find the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository and rename it repository2
    h) Reinstall iPlayer. It will tell you that you have no programmes to view. Quit the programme.
    i) Find and delete the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository
    j) Find the folder: Users/Yourname/Movies/BBC iPlayer/repository2 and rename it to repository.
    k) Relaunch iPlayer
It would be terribly nice if the BBC or Adobe stopped buggering about with this . . .

  • .m2v plays fine in QT but JERKY on DVD

I've been posting this on the FCP group but nobody seems to know, so I'm hoping someone here has more specialist knowledge.
    1) I have an 80 min PAL DV movie which plays beautifully on DVD.
    2) In FCP I convert it to NTSC using the Nattress G Coverter
    (Result: Excellent)
    3) Export using Compressor 2 - to .m2v file
(Result: Excellent when played on QT app)
    4) Burn to DVD via DVDSP 4
(Result: Appears Jerky when there's action or panning)
On close (frame by frame) inspection on the set top DVD player, I notice that every 12th frame goes BACK (not stopped - but backwards one frame)
Frame by frame inspection of the .m2v file in QT shows every 6th frame to be a duplication of the 5th (Presumably this is to bring the frame rate up to NTSC from PAL)?
    Any ideas?
    G5 Quad. 8 GB. 250 & 500 GB Int'l Drives. G-Tech G-Raid 1 TB. FCP 5.0.4 (Studio)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Sony HVR-Z1E . . . I mark my questions Solved or Helpful - Please Don't Beg.

If the problem corrects itself with using progressive, that would work as long as the final venue is DVD. TV, as in broadcast, I don't know what broadcasters like. What is this exactly? Does it have a film look? If it has a film look, then I'd go with the progressive. My theory is that, if I'm not mistaken, you've got that natress filter doing whatever it does to deinterlace and/or convert it for NTSC. I'm not sure how it works exactly, but I would think that somehow if it's going from PAL to NTSC, it has to be getting those added frames from somewhere 25 converts to 30 or 29.97. But then the interlacing is dropped, or some of it anyway, and you're making it 24 frames if you give it a film look with most filters. Also, there's 24p advanced and 24p progressive. I believe advanced is actually 30P that looks like 24.
I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but I am making an educated guess that it lies somewhere in this area. Maybe post a subject that says "Converting Pal to NTSC Film Look for DVD" and see if anyone in this area knows the proper way to do this.
I wish I could help more.

  • Is it normal that a Mac Mini 1.6duo play back of HD 60 frame home video is shuddery / jerky ? is this just processor limits ?

Is it normal that a Mac Mini 1.6duo play back of HD 60 frame home video is shuddery / jerky ? is this just processor limits ?
    I have a pansonic 14meg camera which shoots HD 1060 30 frame and 720 60 frame .
I have been using the 720 6 frame .  Playback using on my camera is perfect , but when I download on to my Intel 1.6duo macmini play back is jerky ... is this just processor limitation or if Mini should be fine to play back (using Quicktime7) could it be file corruption / camera issue.
I think it is just my old computer probably starting to struggle !
    Many thanks

    Couple of things:
There is virtually no standardisation of video formats. The file suffix is if little use to use as, in the case of video, files are just containers for data streams encoded and decoded by Codecs. Pretty much every manufacturer has their own codecs for each and every camera. Put it this way: every Jpeg still is pretty much the same, as there is an agreed standard for that format. There is no such guarantee with avi, mov etc. That's why the model and format of the camera is important.
This model was released in 2012, and you're trying to read data from this using a QuickTime 7, which predates that by a few years. Oddly, Snow Leopard came with QuickTime X, so I'm not sure what you've done there.
iPhoto does not guarantee to import all video from all cameras. What cameras it does support are usually still cameras with a video add on. What you have is a camcorder and the correct app for importing and manipulating video from such a device is iMovie rather than iPhoto. It may be able to transcode it.

  • Why does Quicktime X play 1080 jerky compared to VLC?

    Hi,
I imported some 1920x1080 60i footage from my Canon HF G10 camcorder into Final Cut Pro X  (v10.0.3). No transcoding or proxy. It just rewrapped the MTS files into MOV.
I located the video files (.MOV) in the Final Cut Pro Event folder (Original) and opened one video using Quicktime X (v10.1). The Inspector hud reports:
    Format: 'avc1', 1920 × 1080, Millions
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    FPS: 29.97
    Data Size: 155.7 MB
    Data Rate: 24.10 Mbit/s
    Current Size: 1,920 × 1,080 pixels (Actual)
When I play the video in Quicktime X it is jerky. It also plays it jerky inside Final Cut Pro X. Though if I create a Proxy (or Optimised Media) it plays that smoothly because it transcodes it to ProRes 422.
However, when I play the same video (untranscoded, original .MOV) using VLC (v2.0.1) it plays it smoothly. Even VLC 1.1.12 plays it smoothly.
Is it me or is Quicktime X not as good as VLC for HD video? Quicktime 7 Pro has the same jerky performance.
I have a Mac Pro 2x2.66 Ghz (10.7.3) with 16 GB RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB + 30" ACD
By VLC playing it smoothly would it be a correct conclusion that my machine should be capable of playing back this video smoothly?

  • How to play back AVCHD video files without jerkiness result?

Hi all, I have an iMac 27" 3.06Ghz as well as the new MacBook Air 13 1.86Ghz, and both have 4GB of RAM. When I tried to play back AVCHD video files (*.mts) recorded from my Canon HF200 HD camcorder, the play back is always jerky and choppy. I have tried various software like Perian for QT, VLC, MPlayer Extended, all have the same result. However, I can play back other 1080p files like MKV and MOV just fine.
Is the jerkiness problem that I am seeing due to underpowered hardware? or is it I am not using the correct software? Note that I am not trying to edit HD videos, I just want to be able to play them back smoothly. I can play the same files on Windows 7 natively without any issues.
I am curious if any of you have the same problem. Please help!
    Thanks in advance.

    Swaza,
Just thought I would jump in and share some experiences with .tod and .mod files.
I too have the JVC GZ-HD7 camera and I can confirm that the new version of the MPEG-SC 1.93beta will open and convert .tod to .mov for use with iMovieHD. I am not sure that the files can be used with iMovie08 since I have not tried, but it will work in iMovieHD just like any other qt or .mov file import.
Also, you can use the QTpro plugin that came with the camera (should be on the CD as the only MAC software available.) This will allow you to open the files in QT and convert them to any other format needed. This plugin unfortunately does not allow QTpro to open the older .mod files of previous JVC cameras. For that you can still use MPEG-SC.
In my experiences over the last few weeks, having mistakenly dumped all of my footage onto my hdd as I used to do with my older JVC cameras, I am now stuck with 3 hours of footage on my HDD as .tod files. I have been struggling to find the right blend of codec type, compression amount, fps, and quality to convert these files in an acceptable resolution (1920x1080 full - another mistake since iMovie08 will not import this quality but will import the 1440 CBR mode.) Converting these files is a nightmare and has become a stain on my otherwise wonderfu lexperience with this new camera (It is an awesome camera despite what negative stuff the "Canon fanboys" are saying!) It takes an unbelievably long time to convert. And you will find that when viewing these files in QT either as .tod or even after converting to .mov, they will be jerky and stutter. I believe this is more to the fact that the files are just really huge. Playback inside of iMovie06HD was perfect for me though.
Hope this helps out and I hope others may offer solutions as to what codecs they are using and what settings they are using to keep the quality as high as possible when converting these files.
