Jerky Playback Premiere CS4 and Win 7?

Hey
I tried scanning through a bunch of posts to see if anyone else was getting a similiar issue, but couldn't find an answer.
I recently just upgraded my system :
Windows 7 64bit
Adobe CS4 suite
i7 920 processor
Asus P6T SE mobo
6gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon 4800hd graphics card
250gig 7200rpm OS and Prog Drive
640gig video Drive
300gig Scratch Drive
Fresh Install, not an upgrade.
Did all the win 7 and premiere updates and the ATI updates.
My problem is I have loaded up a project that I originally edited in CS3 premiere, loaded it into CS4, let everything load and index.
My playback is pretty jerky. My new system is way faster then my last setup and yet it is running very very poor.
The footage in question is DV footage. shot on DVX100b (24pa) I made sure and checked that CS4 imported it into a proper sequence and everything seems to be lined up properlly.
Am I doing something wrong?
I checked some HDV footage that wasnt playing on my previous set up, which now playsback in a premiere timeline on current setup.
Are there any codecs that I should download? I dont want to rape the system with random codecs and crap.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Abes

Thanks everyone for pitching in. I didnt reply sooner because my deadline was
pressing hard. Finally managed to create output with CS4
. Also found that the reason my old PP1.5 was crashing was because I was trying to load a project that had already been saved out by me in CS4 What an idiot LOL I put it down to pressure.
But, on to the meat of the issue. First, in answer to an earlier question, yes once i have rendered a preview my monitor scrubs and plays properly however, Its totaly counter intuative to the way one edits a movie. the whole pre-rendering twaddle interferes with the creative process in my opinion. In PP1.5 even if sometimes a little scratchy a simple cross or additive dissolve would preview perfectly fine. This meant that the software didnt encroach upon what should be a transparent to the editor process. I come from 16 and 35mm film and video as a background and of course this stuff has come a long way since then, Im talking 1969 by the way.
But surely in so many ways PP CS4 is almost a monster step backwards.
If basic footage needs pre-rendering to work well in the time line, why isnt that an option at import time ?  Then at least dissolves and the like would be the only thing the processors need to worry about if the basic image blitting to screen has been taken care of by what I imagine is some kind of proxy.
OK thats my 4 penneth as they say in my mother blighty.

  • Premiere CS4 and Lagarith Codec Issue !

    Gentlemen !
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Premiere CS4
    6GB Ram
I was working on a project using 720P footage and finished the project, then I sent it to AME to encode the output file to Windows AVI using lagarith Codec.
The final output AVI video plays perfect on my PC but when I took it to our satellite channel , we were getting the error code something like "Codec missing or needed to play this file "
I guess they try to download the Lagarith Codec , but for reason still didn't work and was displaying the same error.
Do you have any idea , which codec I can use , which can be more standard so their system can play it .
I was asked to provide them with .Mov (Quicktime) or Windows AVI file type !
    Thanks !!

    Ok Thanks again Benn !
    Well, here is the situation.
    My footage is HD 720p
My project and sequence settings match my source footage perfectly
I rendered my song for 2 different formats, once I rendered it for YouTube, which I used a YT preset from AME, and it plays perfect.
Now I have to have another version of this song in SD format, it could be Quicktime or Microsoft- Windows AVI.
I tried Miacrosoft AVI, the audio plays fine but the video is in Slow Motion, also out of sync with audio...
I tried Windows media , but the fina videol size is only 59MB
Any Help will be Appreciated !

  • Premiere CS4 and AfterEffects 6.5, will it work??

I have premiere pro 1.5 and after effects 6.5.  I now have a HD Sony camera and need to upgrade to premiere cs4.
i really don't use after effects all that much but hope too.
will the old after effects be useable with premiere cs4 or just a memory??
thanks for any insight you can provide
    cheers
    brian

After Effects as a stand alone program will still be plenty usable (assuming it supports the media from your new camera).  What you won't get is Dynamic Link.

  • Compatible HDV formats between Premiere CS4 and AE CS4?

Sorry if this has been covered before.
I'm new to CS4 Production Premium, (but not Premiere in general), and I'm having trouble finding a compatible format that I can use between AE CS4 and Premiere CS4. I'm using 1080i HDV captured from a Canon XHA1.
Premiere CS4 reads it just fine, but I cant get it into AE.
Thanks in advance for any comments.
    Andy

once I understood it was only a one way street per use.
It can be sort of two-way.

  • Jerky Playback in CS4

I've been using Premiere Pro for about a year on my Dell laptop.  This time when I went to edit video footage, it plays back very jerky.  I'm only getting a couple frames per second, especially when I speed up playback.  It's standard definition footage, no effects.  My computer has the same RAM, hard drive space, etc. as before.  Any ideas why Premiere is not performing as well as it has?

It could be many things, but let's start with what might be running on your computer, while you are editing. Look over this ARTICLE for some tips, and also tuneup pointers.
Next, is there a red line about the Clips in the Timeline? If so, you can Render for best playback, by hitting the Enter key.
If nothing above helps, then it would be time to dig more deeply into your computer's specs, your Sequence Preset, and the full details of that SD footage. This ARTICLE will tell you what would be so very important, and give you tips of finding some of the info.

  • Please help me ...premiere cs4 and hollywood fx

i'm try setup with vestions, but i don't see Pinnacle in premiere.

There WAS a way to change the file extensions for Hollywood FX, and that would work with certain versions of PrPro. Do not recall the version limitations, or the exact steps to take. Think that I have a bookmark someplace. If I can find it, I will post it. Maybe will work in CS4, but maybe stopped being viable with CS3 - just do not remember.

  • Premiere CS4 and Audition / Soundbooth - Exporting Multitrack Audio

This seems like it should be a well-discussed topic, but I cannot find any difinitive answers on the matter.
What is the best way (if there is one at all) to export the audio portion of a video project with the intention of editing it in a proper auidio editing environment? (Assuming I do not want to bounce down to a single, stereo mix.)
My specific issue is this:  I recorded a live concert using four cameras.  I want the final audio to be a mix of the recording from the board and the mics in the various cameras.  (The cameras offer a bit of room ambience and some crowd noise which the on-stage mics did not capture.)
My cameras do not accept a timecode input, so a lot of time was spent syncing up the four cameras' footage.  Now I want to mix down the four cameras and the one from-the-board audio-only track.  But Premiere Pro CS4's audio editing functions are a bit ... clunky?  I do all my audio editing in Cakewalk's Sonar, but am willing to give Audition a try.  But I can't figure out how to get all my audio files into the audio editing program without having to sink some time into re-syncing them.
Can I export as a multitrack .aiff or .wav?  Then edit that package of tracks in my DAW, then re-export / import back into premiere?  Has anyone tackled something like this before?
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

What are your exact steps to edit in SB or AU? Do you first Rt-click on the Audio Clip and choose Edit in SoundBooth (or Audition)? Do you Render and Replace (basically what happens with the previous method), and then Open that resulting file in SB, or AU?
From SB, or AU, how do you Save your file - exact steps please?
    Good luck,

  • Premiere CS4 and Panasonic Mxf Capture

    Hi
I am trying to capture the MXF footage off a Panasonic HVX200E camera but am having no success.
The camera ckeeps coming up with the text '1394 Device Disconnect'. Meaning that it hasn't achieved a connection to the PC. I find this strange as Premiere can capture from the tape but not the cards.
PC Mode is set to 1394Device.
Has anyone done this and if so, is there anything that I am missing to get the files to import into Premiere ?
    Thanks
    N

Presets work fine except when shooting 24p 24pa. You have to 'interpret footage' and deal with interlacing in the preview. Don't worry though 'just a few extra clicks'. In premiere you can lasso the bunch and do it all at once but not in AE. Decide to add a clip later in the edit 'Interpret Footage'. When you bring CS3 comps into CS4 the files framerates are correct, this just for new projects. Oh yeah except in After Effects, old project or next 'Interpret' each clip.
But hey at least you don't have to 'Interpret' each clip when mixing different media formats right?

  • Premiere CS4 and .swf

    Hello,
I was given a .swf file, the video shows an object in rotation.  However, when I put into cs4, it reads as a still image and the video will not rotate. All I have is the .swf file, not the orginal project. Any ideas? Is it possible to open the .swf in Flas and export it as a avi or mov? The only solution I found was converting it to a .mov  using a third party software, but I lose the alpha channel.
    Thanks for all your help

I've successfully imported and edited SWFs in Premiere Pro, but I've seen the issue you're talking about, as it's happened to me several times before I found what was causing it. Make sure that in your Media Preferences (Edit > Preferences > Media) the option "Write XMP ID to Files on Import" is UNCHECKED. This option causes Premiere to write a bit of information into the header of any imported media file that helps the system track it. Unfortunately, this breaks SWF files--you'll actually need an original copy of the file because you can't fix the file once the damage is done. Hope you have backups!
If that option is already unchecked, post back...

  • Premiere CS4 and HV30 (HDV 1080i 24p with 2-3 pulldown scheme)

    Hi,
I am currently capturing video shot with an HV30. The footage was shot in HDV PF24 mode along with the CINE MODE selected. The results look great but I am wondering about the frame rate being reported per clip in CS4.
The project was setup using the HDV 1080p24 preset but I am guessing that could be wrong. I didn't see an HDV 1080i 24p preset but probably should have created one. The clips are showing in the bin as 29.97 and not showing 23.97 like the Sequence. I know the camera recorded the 24p in a 60i wrapper but I thought the preset would have covered that. When I select interpret footage the remove pulldown isn't available.
Is there anything I should have done differently? or is there anything I need to do at all?
I have shot with the HV20 and CS3 in the past without this being a problem.
ideas? or kind pushes in the right direction :)
    Thanks
    -Ken

I am not sure about PAL. I can tell you I am not having sync issues with my setup.
I will try the HDV 60i preset. Does anyone else have input about the HV30? I would be interested in hearing what others have experienced with the camera and CS4 or CS3 for that matter.
    Thanks

  • Problems with illustrator CS4 and win 7 64 bit pencil and bruch tools

I just bought a computer with Windows 7 64 bit version. Whenever I use the Pencil tool and the brush tool, I can't see my lines as I draw them, only after I  draw. Also sometimes the first item I draw disappears, and lines will sometimes be randomly broken, with pieces missing.
Is anyone else experiencing this? And have you found a way to get around it?
I tried changing the compatability mode for the program to work for Windows XP, but that hasn't helped.

I tried changing the compatability mode for the program to work for Windows XP, but that hasn't helped.
Nor should it. Issues such as you describe them are usually graphics driver issues or problems with specific input devices such as tablets which compatibility modes can't fix, as they use the same drivers. So what is it you are using on that end?

  • Contour HD1080 Files Jerky Premiere CS4

My system is a Dell m1330, core 2 duo 2.4GH, 4 gigs ram, Vista 32bit
Ok  I am a bit new to these new file formats. I am trying to edit some  footage from my Contour HD 1080 on Premiere CS4 and it plays really  jerky and freezes at points. I do not have any of those POS codec packs  installed. the only thing I have installed is Coreavc Pro. Coreavc was  the only way I could get the files to play correctly in Media Player  Classic (which plays them just fine now so I know its not a hardware  speed thing). I tried to install Quicktime and that was not even able to  play the Contour MOV files correctly, because of this I removed  Quicktime from my computer. I have tried to rename them to MP4 and use them in Premiere and it has the same effect.
Has anyone out there been able to play and edit these  Cont HD MOV files with Premiere CS4. I would love to hear of a workflow  so I can stop wasting time and get down to business.I would like to  avoid installing Quicktime on my system if I can, I would love to be  able to use CoreAVC with premiere (becuase it seems like the only thing  that works with these ridiculous files), and I don't wont to have to  convert hours of footage before it will work in Premiere if I have to.

  • Canon XH G1s and Premiere CS4

I just bought a Canon XH G1s and tried to transfer some footage to Premiere. It would not allow me to view the footage while importing, even though it did import (with some problems on a few of the clips, like saying that one clip had been captured at 110 fps). I am using a new G5 with Premiere CS4, and am hoping that the camera is compatible. I would hate to think I spent $7,000 for a camera that won't work with CS4's Premiere Pro. Yikes! Any help would be appreciated.

Thats correct no image in the capture screen while capturing.
You could use HDVSplit instead, which also does scene splitting which Premiere doesn't.

  • Can you help me with this Premiere CS4 error? (picture included)

    Hello
I have Adobe Premiere CS4 and when I recently updated to 4.2.1 many of my videos now do not have playback in the source or edit windows. Some are black screens, and some are turquiose during playback. If I click on the edit window to select the video frame and move it within the edit window (say to the left side) it will play back with a turquoise overlay and show the video behind it enlarged. This ONLY happened when I did the update. I am running Windows 7 64bit. When it was at 4.0.0 everything ran just fine. The video I have been working on is a 1080p .MOV file. Has anyone else seen this? There is a picture of the problem below.
    Thanks for any help!
    James Poremba

Updates, whether with a program, or the OS from MS (or Apple), can cause all sorts of driver issues. These are most often seen with video and audio drivers. Just a simple OS hot-fix can render these obsolete instantly. Also, some recent nVidia drivers contained some "gamer-only" modules for things like 3D rendering and 3D stereovision for use with nVidia goggles. These seem to have been updated, so that these modules do not bring Adobe programs to their knees.
A couple of XP-Pro hot-fixes messed up my nVidia Quadro in PS. A simple driver update fixed those. I had gone more than 6 mos. with not one problem, and then installed the hot-fixes and BOOM!
    Good luck,
    Hunt
