Jerky video on DVD play back

All my movies turn out jerky when burned to a DVD -- especially noticeable in pan and tilt movements. I thought it had to do with de-interlacing footage from my Sony PD150, after exporting the final cut from iMovie. But that's not it, because de-interlaced export from FCP 6 has the same problem, once iDVD gets hold of it.
Any suggestions?
thanks

  • Purchased videos do not play back in iTunes

When I try to play purchased (protected) content in iTunes 11.0.2 on my Macbook Pro, I get no video or audio playback, only a black screen.  The time counter progresses, as though the video is playing.  If the same content is streamed to my Apple TV from the Macbook via Airplay, both the video and audio play back with no issues.  The same content plays without error on the iPad and iPhone.  On the Macbook, the videos made from ripped DVDs or Blu-rays play without error.  I have deauthorized and reauthorized the computer with no resulting change in behavior.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!
I am running OS X 10.8.2 on a mid-2009 Macbook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).  I have modified the laptop in the following ways:  upgraded to 8 GB (2x4GB) 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM; the optical drive has been removed and replaced with a 128 GB SSD (OWC Mercury Electra 3G SSD); the stock HDD has been replaced with a 640 GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue drive (WDC WD6400BEVT-00A0RT0).

  • Youtube videos are not playing back

Youtube videos are not playing back in Safari 5.1.7. I've also checked this in Firefox 16.0.2.
    I am running OS 10.6.8.
Why is this happening? I need this capabilitiy for my work efforts.
    Thanks (in advance)!

I'm having similar problems to you all.  Chrome and Firefox will play YT videos back perfectly.  But for some reason certain users' entire channels that were working fine in Safari on Thhursday 1st Nov 2012 had stopped working by the next day!  After upgrading Flash and resetting the cache etc it was a bit better but still some not working.  I then downloaded the 6.0.2 update (again after a bit of aggro as some error message kept popping up, then after a while it worked ok).  Now still some videos refuse to play in Safari.  Latest FF browser seems OK and not too slow.  I have always liked Safari though and am a bit annoyed that I've had to to make FF my default as it's a bit ugly.  It may be a YT problem rather than Apple.  Once upon a time in the hazy crazy days of Tiger and Leopard I had no Apple problems.  Now lots of very minor but basic issues keep popping up!

  • 720P 30 H.264 videos stutter when played back on Windows

720P 30 H.264 videos stutter when played back on Windows
I have an interesting problem that I am hoping someone can help me with.
I have several short videos (2-4 minutes) in 1080i HDV that I have edited in FCP. When output to 720P 30 H.264 in Compressor at either 10 or 6 MB they look just drop dead gorgeous when played back on either of my dual processor Macs.
However when played back on a Windows machine with QuickTime 7, they stutter to the point that playback locks up. This happens on 1.5 GHz to 3.2 GHz P4 class machines with 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM and 64 to 128 MB video cards. On the 3.2 GHz P4, the processor utilization peaks at 100%. The interesting thing is that all of these same Windows machines have no problem playing back 720p 24 trailers at 6 MB.
    Thanks all.

First a correction. I am using the latest version of FCP – 5.
Regarding the encoding, I have tried going from native HDV MPEG-2 to H.264 at 720P from 10 to 4 MB at 24, 30 and 29.97. The Mac seems to play everything back very well, but most PCs (the latest IBM T 40 – 43 series laptops) a couple of Dell desk tops (2.6 GHZ with 64 and 128 MB graphic cards) and a 3.2 GHz Shuttle PC with a 128 MB graphic card (that we routinely use to decode four MPEG-4, 4CIF images simultaneously and display on a 42” ED Plasma) choke/stutter to varying degrees with processor utilization hitting 100%.
So, the real issue here is what is the difference between a 720p trailer that I can download from Apple and what I can output using Compressor 2 at a similar data rate – other than the frame rate?
And why does the Compressor output stutter on most PCs?

  • I can watch my custom DVD in iDVD 7 preview but burnt dvd plays back black with only the audio

I can watch my custom created DVD in iDVD 7 preview but once the disc is burnt and I play it back in DVD Player, the screen is black with only the audio playing back. I have tried using three different blank DVD manufactures.

    Hi
Most probably depends on what movie codec You feed iDVD. May be You find any clue here.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus  less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show

  • Dvd play back on Tv is 4:3 , also poor  playback quality

I recently purchased a jvc everio HDD, Along with that I purchased elements 7.  I am having many issues with the software. I am new to editing but have researched all the posts and done alot of home work. I have read the all the post about mod files. But I am more confused
Issue one... When I burn a dvd and play it back on any dvd player the video is compressed back to a 4:3 aspect. I have noticed that the video is squeezed and everything appears to be skinny when viewing.
To clarify , My camera films in 16:9 ratio. When I set up My new project I choose . Hard disk/widescreen (this setting say it is for video files produced by jvc everio). When Ii am done I choose burn/dolby widescreen.
when I import my video clips to my pc, it saves them as mov.files. which I understand is a quicktime format... is this causeing the issue.
I was convinced it was a camera issue. So I burnt some clips using my pc burner program and played them on my tv and they were in 16:9 and played just fine and the video looked amazing..
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Issue two.... When I bring my video's in I loose alot of quality.  Also my clips hae glitches in them , some are green clitches and others are neg art of other clips . I played back on my media player ,these glitches are not there.
    ~~~~~~~~~
Issue three..... When I import my clips , the PRE viewer is very pixelly ( like really bad webcam bad) it is so bad that I actually took the sony camcorder back, thinking that the issue was my camera. I then exchanged for the jvc..... I have watched many utube tutorials on youtube... and have been able to see that the players are not as pixelly as mine....
Help....... I am so frustrated with purchaseing software and having problems.

With MOD files are imported into Premiere Elements they are not properly interpreted as 16:9... they will appear as 4:3 on the timeline and if burnt to DVD will play back as 4:3. You need to right click on the clips in the project Media Panel and select Interpret footage and then Conform To and select the 16:9 widescreen preset.
Not sure why it is saying the videos are .mov files, did you do ant conversion before importing. Regarding the glitchy distorted frames, try renaming the file  in the Program Files folder for Premier Elements "ImporterFastMPEG.prm" to something else. PE7 will not use it then and this should eliminate you bad frame problems.
The Premiere Elements viewer does not show the final quality of the video but should not be that bad. Did you render the timeline by pressing the Enter button on your keyboard... this needs to be done for non DV-AVI format video or when you place effects/transitions/title on the clips. The clips will playback without rendering but playback will be much smoother and cleaning after rendering.
Most of these issues can be overcome be converting your video to DV-AVI before importing to Premiere Elements. The "box" says PE7 plays with many file types but it struggles with many and MOD files is one format that it does struggle with. DV-AVI is handled natively and gives no problems. Can you import the clips into the software that came with the camcorder and export to DV-AVI? Otherwise you could use MPEG_Streamclip to convert them. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
Also a lot of these issues are discussed in this thread. Dont know if you saw this one. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1757486#1757486

  • Finished DVD plays back differently on TV vs. my computer

    Hi!
I made a 23-minute film with iMovie. Material was shot with Samsung VP-DC161 digital video camera. The quality is not impressive but it is bearable.
After editing the result looks allright. I put the DVD together with iDVD and burned a disc out of the movie. My iMac plays it back just as I'd expect.
    here comes the "but"...
When I feed the DVD in my DVD player connected to my TV, I get noticeably worse results when playing back. Whenever the camera moves, it looks like I get reduced FPS, the movement in the picture from frame to frame looks like 12 FPS slide show. This gets annoying when the camera moves around, when it shoots a fixed point and people in the picture are moving I don't get the slide-show effect.
So I don't understand why I'm getting so different results in playback computer vs. DVD player. I'd be glad to get some help with this issue.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi!
First of all, thanks for help so far...
Later versions fixed that. You do have v6.0.3,
    right?
I actually do - I see that I posted into a wrong forum,m my mistake!
    Samsung VP-DC161
Hey wait a minute! A quick Googling around indicated
that it is NOT a DV camcorder but a DVD camcorder!
iMovie is designed for DV -- it dislikes DVD
camcorders but can be tweaked to work with them with
    3rd party apps.
How did you import the footage to iMovie??
Copied the 8 cm DVD files into my sons hard disk (PC), burned a 12 cm DVD out of the files and then converted them into DV-format using streamclip.
I guess your problem is in the import process. Maybe
wrong field dominance produces the symptoms you
describe. DV is always bottom field first but DVDs
can use either bottom field first or top field
    first.
The DVD Player.app on your Mac may deinterlace the
playback, but when viewed on a TV the wrong field
dominance is VERY easy to see.
Ok, I need to study more of this. I'm a total newbie what comes to digital video, so back to study...
I may have to convert the material all over again, though I don't have the time to do it anymore
    Thanks for help.

  • Video does not play back - please help

    Hi everyone...
    Here are the specs:
    Premier Pro CS4
    Windows XP SP3
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    T9400 @ 2.53 Ghz
    2.53 Ghz 2.90 GB
149 GB HD -  111 GB free space
I am not able to play back any type of video, it will pixilated and freeze.  The audio plays fine.  I have imported QT files as well as captured video at the standard DV-NTSC Standard 48Khz
During capeure I have no problem viewing or capturing....
The thumbnail image shows a proper image but ones I hit play on the thumbnail preview it pixilated and freezes as well.  Even if I drop the clip in the timeline it does not work.
I checked the material by using it in another computer with PPC4 and it worked fine...so the source material is not corrupted....
Any and all the help is appreciated.

Regarding QT that is what I have always used with other NLE, what do you recommend?
I've had great luck with QT. I've had the Pro version on all machines going way, way back, with not one issue. Many others have not been so fortunate. As I do not let it update, I managed to miss the 7.4.x debacle, where about 3 udpates killed almost everything Adobe. I'm running 7.5.5 on all machines, IIRC. QT is up to 7.6.3, last time I checked.
I get a ton of .MOV files and specify the Apple Animation CODEC. To date, all have played and edited fine on my PC's. Again, based on the reports from the field, YMMV. Just because I have had 100% success, does not mean that any others will. Many have not.
Now, I have the Pro update, and I cannot say how that might affect things, other than the "features" of Pro. As it is just an "unlock," the "guts" of QT Player have go to be pretty much identical. Still, my results have always been with the Pro version, FWIW.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS, if there were not issues for many others, the term QuirKtime®, would not have come into popular usage.

  • Live video capture while playing back another video track?

Is it possible to capture live video while another video track is being played back? I would like to do this for multitrack video recording of music: a) record a video track, then b) record a second video track while listening to/watching the first. Exactly like multitrack recording of audio as in Garage Band, but with video.
A similar question was asked here, but I want to avoid manual synchronization. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11712024&#11712024
As an example, there are lots of multitrack videos on youtube, but you can often tell synchronization has been done manually as the audio and video are out of sync (even if only slightly):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2RA0vsZXf8&feature=related
    Many thanks!

I'm not too familiar with video editing (yet), so please forgive me if I've misunderstood your suggestions. I think what I'm talking about would have to be done post (after shooting multiple video tracks?), and couldn't be done with video switching (live switching between multiple video feeds?). Here's a much better example of what I'm trying to do: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGKErn2Zr88
What it boils down to in my mind is precise synchronization of a new capture with something pre-recorded (be it audio or video). If no software can do this (yet), perhaps there's a way to do it with additional hardware, for example playing video on a monitor while simultaneously recording with a camera, assuming the devices can be synchronized somehow?
    Thanks!

  • Music videos don't play back to back

Is there any method to get my music videos to play continuously.  Since upgrade to ios5, my iPad plays 1 video then stops.  Another video has to be selected before it will play.  I want it to play one after the other.  It used to work before the upgrade.

In my case, MY MUSIC VIDEOS WON'T PLAY AT ALL! When i classify the video as movie it does play, but when i classify it as music video it doesn't play anymore. I am so ****** because I am more into music videos, I have almost 100+ music videos on my ipod 4th gen. I went to apple's service center to complain, but they only gave me silly solutions for this. Either I download all those videos again which is crazy, or I wait until apple release an update of ios 5. Grrrr!

  • Dvd play back speed issue

    Hello
I have a project where the M2V files are on one timeline with subtitles. There are title files next to the video files all compressed using the same compressor settings. When I play the dvd on a dvd player (I have tried several) the title plays fine but the first couple of seconds of the video is sped up and then returns to being perfectly in sync. On a PC/Mac dvd player this does not happen nor on the simulator in studio pro. Does anyone have any ideas why this happens and any suggestions of how to repair it.
    Kind regards
    Dan

Not sure what cuased this problem which is a worry but the solution was to export the mpeg from dvd studio pro and reimport it back in. This creates a single video file of all the parts of video files on DVD studio pro timeline.

  • No stereo when DVD plays back on DVD player

I create a fair amount of photo/slideshows and then burn it all with music onto a DVD.
In the past, the playback was always in stereo, but now the playback is in dismal mono sound!...
I could be my new HD digital television set and I'll just have to explore that also. But when I did get ready to "burn" my dvd, I was given a "prompt" that gave me the choice of "how" I wanted to do this.
I recall it asked me if "a data burn" was okay. I do recall that I also saw an "MP3" option also.
Could this be the problem. I'm not sure if this audio prompt came from "idvd", itunes, or "imovie"..
    Any suggestions?.
    thanks...

Another possibility is, the TV that you have has all the color taken out. To find out I would see if the TV plays anything else in color. If it plays cable TV input and the input from the DVD Player in black and white then the problem is probably a setting in the TV. But if the black and white problem is only occurring with the input from the DVD Player the problem is either 1)Mac-onga is right and the plugs are put in the wrong inputs on the back/front of the TV OR 2)there is a black and white setting on the DVD player.
    Hope this helps,
    TC

  • DVD Play back

I just bought a 20" imac last week and was wondering how to set the screen to get the best clarity from dvd's? In full screen mode they are kind of fuzzy.
    Thanks
    Brian

    Brian,
you are viewing a PAL (768x576) or NTSC (720 x 540) video on a 1680 x 1050 screen. This means that they are not going to look as sharp as your normal image in OS X. If you sit as far back as you would with your normal TV then you'll be more satisfied.
