JERRY HELP laptop keeps dropping wifi signal, very slow computer

I have read some blogs here where Jerry Lippey?  has helped. PLEASE HELP!!   My c655d-s5200 satellite laptop constantly drops the wifi connection.  just in the registration for this site alone i had to reconnect about 10 times.  computer is only about 1 year old.  computer has always been very slow, even from day 1.  taking sometimes a full minute or two to change pages.  I never complained about it when it was under warranty.  I just lived with it.   and now that it just out of warranty,  I have changed from mediacom cable to us cellular wifi, I am finding out that I have more problems than I thought.  I have a good 4G singal and I am almost 100% sure it is not a problem with the hotspot.   it seems my computer takes way to long thinking. even from day 1 sometimes it will not print a letter that I know I typed.  It has most of the same problems as the person on a ship overseas did in another blog.  If you havnt figured out yet I am NOT familiar with the computer. or tech terms.  I am one of the dumbest ones on here.  I tried to search and identify my wifi  information by typing (pc diag ) in the search bar and no results came up. As I was going to try and redownload the driver.  I still have the windows 7 that was originally loaded.  I also have NO dates set to restore to.  can someone please help me out.  I am very disapointed with this toshiba computer.  PS it just took over 40 seconds to back space and delete a full sentence I decided not to say.

  • IPad 2 keeps dropping wifi signal

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help with a very frustrating problem.
I have an iPad 2, running iOS 6.1.2 (10B146). My home wifi network is provided by BT Infinity (I'm in the UK), via a BT Home Hub 3. Very frustratingly, my iPad is dropping my internet connection, frequently but seemingly randomly.
The wifi is stable for all other devices (iPhone and laptop), I never experience drop outs with either of those devices.
I've tried re-booting my router, but this hasn't helped. On my iPad I've tried Resetting Network Settings, but the problem persists.
When I lose my internet connection, I don't actually lose my wifi signal, the wifi icon remains in the top left corner, and the correct wifi network is still 'ticked' under my wifi settings. The only way to restore my internet connect is to turn my wifi off and on again, this solves the problem until the next disconnection.
It's driving me mad at the moment. My ipad appears to be fine when connecting to other wifi networks, which led me to think it's a problem with my router. But the fact my other devices are not dropping connection leads me to think it's a problem with the iPad.
In my wifi settings on the iPad I'm using DHCP, no HTTP proxy.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

How will changing ISP fix a wireless problem? There will still be the same number of interfering channels.
If you think the problem is related to the home hub, then simply add a separate cheap wireless access point, that is what other people do.
You can also use a different router if you wish.

  • IPad 3 keeps dropping wifi signal

Despite having a very strong wifi signal around the house, which my iPad 2 has a strong connection to, my new iPad keeps dropping the wifi signal every minute or two, making using the Internet nearly impossible. To regain connection I just have to go on the wifi settings page (not even turning the wifi on and off) which then gives me the signal again. Ive tried resetting network settings, but nothing works. Please help; this is a real problem and means I can't use my iPad properly.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

  • My ipod touch 8gb 3rd generation keeps dropping wifi.  I hate to reset since i've downloaded all of my itunes directly to my ipod.  Help!

My ipod touch 8gb 3rd generation keeps dropping wifi.  Doesn't matter where I am - happend ALL the time.  Almost useless now except for all of my songs!   We don't have any other problems with other computers in our house.  I have downloaded all of my songs from itunes directly to my ipod (I know, I wish I hadn't) so I hate to reset or I will lose them all.  I have never downloaded any updates (I know, I know!) so could this be my problem? How do I find downloads and what do I need?  Please help if you can!

If I reset my ipod will the wifi dropping stop?    I don't usually connect the ipod to my computer.  I charge it from the wall.  Should I be connecting to the computer instead?  Takes so much longer.  thanks for your help!
The reset may help with the WiFi issue, but you'll have to do the reset to be sure. It does seem to cure a wide variety of issues. At some point you should be connecting the iPod to your computer/iTunes account, otherwise you risk losing all of your music and other content if you have a problem with your iPod.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Dropped wifi signal

I live at an apartment complex that provides wireless internet connection. I've moved to another unit in the same complex and now, instead of having the internet antenna only 20 feet from my computer, it is now about 40 YARDS from my eMac. What is frustrating is to be browsing the 'net only to have the signal dropped all of a sudden with my eMac telling my that I am not connected to the internet. It usually doesn't reconnect after restarting the machine and it sometimes reconnects after I put my eMac to sleep for around 4 or 5 hours. Would it help to boost the wifi signal by purchasing an external antenna? If so, where on my eMac would I connect the antenna? If an external antenna is not the solution, does anyone have any other suggestions to solve my problem? I also recently had Elgato's EyeTV200 installed and I'm wondering if it is part my signal dropping problem. Comments? Suggestions? Thank you to all who respond!

Okay, I tried reinstalling OS X and it didn't solve my networking problem. However, something really weird came up. Another discussion site suggested that I try increasing the signal strength via a product from Quickertek. I contacted the company and they suggested to download iStumbler to test how much of the wifi signal my eMac is receiving. If it is 30% or less, he said, than I should consider buying their product. Well, not only did iStumbler indicate that I was receiving up to 70% of the complex's wifi signal, I was able to connect to the internet! Hallelujah!!! My computer would still drop the signal, but only after about 2 hours or so. Much, much longer than before. Not perfect, but acceptable. Everything was going okay until I followed the advice of another person on a discussion site which was to use Disk Utility and make sure everything was okay. I fired up Disk Utility and had it repair permission. Big mistake. It made many permissions corrections, but I am now unable to connect to the internet at all. It doesn't make sense to me that repairing permissions would cause this. But, all I can tell you now is that no matter what I try, I am unable to connect to the internet. My eMac is also unable to pick up ANY wifi signals from anywhere, even from my own DSL modem which is only eight feet away. I've tried Network Utility, reconfiguring the machine, and I've run out of ideas. Suggestions?

  • Dropped WiFi signal, with a twist.

So I've read some earlier posts about Macs running SL dropping Wifi signal, which is consistent with the problems I am experiencing. Ever since I upgraded to SL, wifi signal has been dropping intermittently, maybe about 5 times a day. Running 10.5, these problems never occured.
The twist is, my entire network shuts down. Even PC's connected to the network drop their signal. I have to wait maybe about 30-60 seconds for the network to come back up. I know it's a far stretch to assume an operating system is causing my router to somehow shut off its signal, but the timing of upgrading to SL and having these problems is uncanny.
I have already called Linksys tech support and they instructed me to upgrade the firmware (I have the WRT54G V2 router, which is only about 1.5 years old, so I doubt the router has gone bad). At first I thought this did the trick, but the problems came back, although with less frequency, which is good. But it's still annoying!
Any help or incite is helpful.

    Hey Nvius,
I have kind of the same problem, even in other then my own, wifi environments, i cause the whole network to crash. i tested this several times at a friends house. When i start my macbook and connect to the wifirouter, all other wifi clients loose their entire bandwidth. They stay connected to the rooter, excellent signal strength but impossible to access a site or even connect to the routers setup page.
Did you find a solution for your problem?

  • My mac mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity

    Hi Folks,
My new Mini keeps dropping wifi connectivity so I lose the connection to Apple TV and even just browsing on Safari seems painful hoping a page will load before losing connectivity. I reset my router, restart the mini and it intermittently keeps happening. Has anyone come up with a workable solution?
    Thanks

Hi Leo, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.

  • Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1update

Why does my iphone 4 keep dropping wifi connection since ios5.0.1 update, it worked perfectly before, my wifes 3gs connects fine and stays connected while my £400 paperweight losses connection, thinking of going back to nokia! Sort it out apple!

If the "oh so Great Apple" were to monitor these forums then they might see all the problems
that the people who have paid good money for their devices are having, i suppose they can do no wrong
In your eyes, i just thought that if you pay a lot of money for a product that works fine, and you update
It with a firmware update that they kept going on about how good it was and it can do this and it can
Do that, then i think they should sort it out. I don't care if i "don't deserve to be an apple owner" or not,
The fact is i paid my money and it should do what its suppose to do, i moved from Nokia to Apple because
The N97 was crap and i put up with it for too long, and they didn't do anything to fix the bugs they just stopped
Selling it and basically said tough s**t, so now this is happened i hoped Apple whould be better but they seem
To be just like the rest.
