Jes Deinterlacer: when to use it?
I saw a tutorial movie on YTube about slow motion in FCPX. In this movie JES interlacer is used before Retime - Optical flow.
But I saw I can get same result (maybe not just the same?...) directly using Retime in FCPX.
Any advice?
If you're shooting 1080i you may benifit from using jes.
Jes de-interlacer is, as the name implies, a de-interlacing app. And it's a good tool to have around.
If you select "use both fields" in Jes and "double duration", Jes will interprolate each FIELD into a FRAME giveing you a very respectable 50% slomo'd progressive file out of 1080i. You can then slow that even more in FCP, like you saw on YouTube.
I you're already shooting progresive then it's moot. Just use FCP.

How Do I Use The JES Deinterlacer to Deinterlace!!!!!
Having spent the last week recommending the JES Deinterlacer to all and sundry, I have just tried to use it! (And have I got egg on my face!)
The instructions are obviously written by experts for experts.
Quite simply I have made a slide show in iMovie using jpeg photos. Some of them show the classic interlace shimmer when played on a TV. (My system is PAL). I just want to deinterlace the video and export it back to my mini-DV camera.
Can somebody please tell me how to set it up to do a straightforward deinterlace?
The JES interface has 4 columns;- Project, Input, Colour and Output.
I assume I can forget about the "Colour" window.
Do I need to configure all the other 3 windows and if so exactly what settings do I put in each?
I have been blabbing on about how the JES should be put with other useful utilities in an FAQ - but what is needed is a simple set of instructions for we who are technologically challenged.

However, it only seems to deal with converting NTSC to PAL etc. and not a simple deinterlace.
I have been doing a bit of fiddling around and banging my head and have come up with what MIGHT be the correct method of use.
1. In the Project Pane choose Deinterlace and leave everything else in its default state.
2. In the Input Pane choose the iMovie movie I want to deinterlace and leave everything else in its default state (except for maybe selecting "Remove jaggies").
3. Ignore the Colour Pane.
4. In the Output Pane choose a suitable title for the deinterlaced movie and change the Compressor Panel - "Direct" from the default "DV-NTSC" to "DV-PAL". Leave everything else on that panel alone.
5. Press OK and wait for the movie to be converted.
Have I got it right? Is that how to use it?
If it isn't I would value the advice of someone who can tell me how I should be configuring the panes etc.

Has anyone used JES Deinterlacer?
I have a project that has an interlacing problem, creating jagged edges in motion scenes. I have read about a free program, JES Deinterlacer, but where do I use it in the work flow. The original file is .VOB, converted to mp4 with HandBrake, then imported into iMovie HD6 for editing, exported to a disk file (?) and burned to DVD with Disk Utility.

16:9 JES deinterlacer slow motion
I am trying to use JES deinterlacer to slow down a clip but cant seem to get the output in 16:9. I have followed the instructions below and keep checking the 16:9 box but the output is always squashed 4:3. I've tried fiddling with the options and cant seem to find an answer.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Slow-motion and fast-motion: In JES Deinterlacer's Project tab select "Project kind: Standards conversion". Select "Custom" and set "Movie speed: 0.5" for 0.5x slow-motion, 2 for 2x fast-motion and so on for other speeds. You can select speed ratios in the range of 0.1-10x with 0.01 decimal precision (with v2.7.1 the 0.1x may stall and with 0.2x the audio is out of sync. 0.25-10x are OK). THEN set the other options:
For NTSC use "Settings/Height: 480, Width: 720, Frame rate: 29.97".
For PAL use "Settings/Height: 576, Width: 720, Frame rate: 25".
Check "Blend" and let "Scale only" remain unchecked.
In the Output tab set "Video output/Compressor/Export: DV Stream.../DV Format: DV, Video Format: NTSC/PAL, Scan Mode: Interlaced, Aspect ratio: 4:3/16:9, Audio Format: Unlocked/Locked, Rate: 48.000 kHz".
Let "Progressive (out)" remain unchecked. (Leave the other options as defaults).

Deinterlacing PAL DV via Jes Deinterlacer for AppleTV...
Hi all,
I am trying to deinterlace some PAL DV that is widescreen. The problem I have is that the movie export "should" be 1040 x 576 in the final output. If I export for AppleTV direct from Imovie HD that is exactly what I get. However, I'd like to try deinterlacing by using Jes deinterlacer as the results i've seen seem better than via iMovie. If I export the same file from Jes using the AppleTV preset in Jes Deinterlacer, the final exported file is squashed down to 767 x 576. I know that if I then open the file in quicktime and choose to adjust the display settings, the file will then display in widescreen by honoring the anamorphic settings, but the problem with this is that neither Itunes nor AppleTV seem to understand this and display the movie squashed.... I've also tried exporting via the h.264 option and setting the output at 1040 x 576, this also results in a squashed file. I have also played with the anamorphic settings in Jes but seem to be unable to get a true 1040 x 576 export like I can get from iMovie directly. I'd love to get this working in Jes as the deinterlacing by Jes is soooo much better than the results I am getting from iMovie.

JES Deinterlacer appears to have butchered my movie projects
After converting my jittery slow motion clips in 2 movie projects of mine with the Deinterlacer (spending a few hours in the process) I have found that when I reopen these projects pieces of clips are missing. They reappear in the trash but I cannot reinsert them because transitions have been placed where they used to be. Aargh! Any suggestions?

Make sure the iMovie project volume is formatted as Mac OS Extended. Those symptoms indicate that this is not the case so iMovie can't properly save the project!
Anyway, how did you render the slo-mo clips? I'd use the following workflow:
1. Open the Timeline Movie.mov inside the iMovie project's /Cache folder with JES Deinterlacer (this uses the whole iMovie timeline as input). Or export just the desired clip as Full Quality DV and use it as input. Set JES Deinterlacer settings as desired and set it to output .dv.
2. As a shortcut, you can output the .dv straight to iMovie's /Media folder:

Take care to output only pure plain .dv (DV/DVCPRO NTSC or DV PAL) and also take care to use the correct NTSC/PAL video standard with 48 kHz audio. With those precautions, I have not noticed any ill effects with iMovie 1-6. And even if you'd not take those precautions, it should not affect the other clips in the project (wrong kind of clips might have artifacts with added effects or they might not export properly to the camcorder).
But to play it safe, you could output .dv to some other folder and then let iMovie import it as usual.

Basic steps: exporting to (reimporting from) iMovie HD or JES deinterlacer
It's probably basic, but could you please detail the steps for using getting a clip from iMovie 08 to iMovie HD or JES Interlacer? I don't want to loose significant quality. One post recommended going back to the source camcorder and reimporting into iMovie HD. That isn't very practical for me.
I have selected multiple short clips from larger clips within the Event viewer and have moved those short clips into a new project. What are the best, specific steps to get these into JES (and iMovie HD).

iMovie HD
1) Open iMovie HD
2) Navigate to the appropriate "iMovie Events" folder and open the iMovie '08 named_Event folder.
3) Drag the file you want from the named_Event folder to the iMovie HD window and drop it to import it.
Some file formats (e.g., MPEG-2 content converted to the equivalent of an M-JPEG file) may be problematic. (I.e., I have not tested this example and am not sure what would happen.) Other files (e.g., DV and AIC/AIFF) should import ready for editing. And still other files (e.g., H.264/AAC) will have to be automatically converted as part of the copy/import process for editing in iMovie HD.
JES Deinterlacer
Basically the same. Only this time drop the source file on the JES Deinterlacer Finder icon. This should open the JES application and auto-load the source file reference. -
AVG Secure Search appears when I use Google Search from my Home page only.
My home page is the Firefox default page with the Google searchbar. I like getting occasional messages from Firefox when I log in so I don't want to change my homepage. However, when I use the searchbar ''on my homepage only'', I get the unsatisfactory AVG Secure Search results.
UPDATE: I now realize all the troubleshooting information I included in my original question appears under the "More System Details" link next to the question, not in the body of the question. I have copied it here to make it easier to see what I have already done to try to solve the problem, as well as describe the one clue I have that may be relevant:
I have tried all the fixes on various threads, but my about:config is now pristine (no avg or isearch mentions; keyword.url is default). Closest solution is that at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/866327 , which requires changing my home page.
Oddly, AVG Secure Search is ''not'' a problem when I use the Google toolbar or search from the Google website, only when I use the search bar that appears on my home (start) page. This is true even when I return to my home page--if I search from the Google search bar in the middle of the page, I get sent to AVG Safe Search. (isearch.avg.com).
I read in one thread a suggestion to delete my chromeappsstore.sqlite file in my Profile folder. As promised, Firefox created a new one when I restarted it; however, the search bar in the middle of my home home page did not work at all. Tried this three times before restoring my original.
I do not have an application that will open a sqlite file, but I tried doing so in Excel and found a cell containing the following:

I access net through ethernet cable from my isp. so i just plug in the cable in my mac and in the browser it put the username & password. now i want to use my airport express to create a wireless network so i can access net from ipad and mac simultaneously. when i use airport express both my mac & ipad gets connected to airp exp but each of them ask for isp's username and password. i can only login from either one of them and access net in that one only. Pls advice???
To allow your Mac to "see" the HDD attached to an AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) that is configured as a bridge, just be sure to assign a static Private IP address to the AEBS. By default the AEBS is a DHCP client and will get a dynamic IP address from the upstream router that is acting as the DHCP server. Since this address can change over time, it would make it more difficult for network clients to find the HDD.

My iphone doesnt show up in my itunes. It shows up when i plug it into another laptop. Similarly, when i use someone else's iphone, that shows up in my itunes. Obviously my itunes wont recognise my iphone. Please help

SimonThe optimizer has, well, optimized out the row_number because you never refer to its value in the outermost query.

They won't show in iTunes (iTunes is only used to copy photos to a device, not copy them off), but you should be able to copy them off either manually via My Computer (the iPad should show as a camera) or via windows camera wizard or windows live photo gallery depending upon your OS version.
