JES Messenging Server (v6.0)  issues: SMTP Error: 4.0.0

Hi,
We've successfully installed Directory Server 5.2, Indentity Server 6.1, Application Server 7.0 update 1, Web Server 6.1 and Calendar Server 6.0 on a Solaris 8 system.
This system is intended for test purposes, hence all the applications are on one system. The production system will be installed on seperate systems as per Sun's recommendations.
Apropos Messenging Server (v6.0)
When I log into the the Web interface I get:
"Quota root does not exist"
If I try to send a message to a local user from the Web interface I get:
"SMTP Error: 4.0.0 temporary error returned by alias expansion: [email protected]"
I get a similar error if I try to mail a local user from outside:
220 trabant.acc.graddelt.com -- Server ESMTP (Sun ONE Messaging Server 6.0 (built Oct 29 2003))
HELO zen.sys.uea.ac.uk
250 trabant.acc.graddelt.com OK, [192.168.104.92].
MAIL From: <[email protected]>
250 2.5.0 Address Ok.
RCPT To: <[email protected]>
452 4.0.0 temporary error returned by alias expansion: [email protected]
When we installed Messenger Server, we selected Schema v2 from comm_dsetup.pl. We would like to use Messsenger Server with Identity Server.
Any suggestions as to how to overcome this issue would be most welcome.
Thanks

    I am trying to send an email from Lookout V6.6 using the Mailer object.  I have an email address setup through GMAIL and have verified it works.  Also, Lookout Mailer object is able to verify GMAIL server.  I get the following error message when trying to send the email: "SMTP: invalid from address. SMTP error 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first. d5sm35857280yhl.19".  Anyone know what is causing this?

    Another method is to use a SMTP relayer, we have deployed them in the past.

    I'm sure someone will give more detail, but it looks like the server blocked your address because it thinks it's a spam source.  If you're not spamming, then it might be someone on the same network spamming, or malware on your computer doing it.  Or it could just be a mistake.  try calling whoever runs your mail server and see if they can give you more information.

    I am repeatedly getting this message when sending mail from smpt mail.btintenet.com :
    Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'Re: Case AVG#0000334806: [ ref:00D4000000086fU.5004000000ADEMJ:ref ] RE: AVG technical support - e-mail scanner gmail issues', Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '451 Invalid Smtp line - Should end with CRLF', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 451, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
    I am also getting "password rejected" message.  I have twice re-set my original password on the Servers page of my OE bt account, also in the smtp settigns.  i have visited my BT-Yahoo inbox and find I am still logged in  there, and can receive from there in OE.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    NOT SOLVED YET sorry, it is much more complicated:
    All mails I send out of OE from either bt or gmail accounts, are sent with bt smtp server: mail.btinternet.com .  Outgoing mail is not scanned by AVG n any case, and the problem occurs whether AVG email scanner is enabled or not.
    All the HTML mails that I have created and sent to myself at least for the past month, whether from bt account to gmail or vice versa, or just bt to bt, cause error 451 etc when forwarded as attachments after I have received them.
    BUT the problem does not occur when the original, forwarded email was written in Plain text, even if the mail in which it is forwarded is HTML.
    Also, those same HTML mails that later cause the error when forwarded after they have been received, can be forwarded as attachments OK from the Sent box, but not from the Inbox after receipt.
    But both HTML and plain text mails other people have sent me CAN be forwarded OK as attachments from either account.
    Mails sent to myself from the BY Yahoo and gmail webmail can both be forwarded again in OE to bt without any error (but those from bt to bt  end up in BT Yahoo spam folder, until manually checked as "Not Spam").
    Is something in the bt smtp server causing the problem, since all mails I send from OE go through that server ...?

  • SMTP error from remote mail server 522 IP REPUTATI...

    I have a hosting business, and one of my clients on BTinternet, using BT Mail is now having mail bounce back to sender when forwarded from her domain mailbox.
    Here is an example of the bounced errors -
    A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
    recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
    [email protected]
    (ultimately generated from [email protected])

    SMTP error from remote mail server after MAIL FROM:<[email protected]> SIZE=3749:
    522 IP REPUTATION BAD (please check for IP address listing on reputation services)
     I've changed the actual addresses above. The server the mail is being forwarded from has an IP address 138.128.161.22
    It seems that BT believes that the  server the mail is forwarded from is blacklisted. However, I am unable to discover any blacklist issue for this server. As you can see from the MXToolbox enquiry, there are no blacklists reported -
    http://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=blacklist%3a138.128.161.22&run=toolpage
    Can anybody from BT tell me who I need to contact to find out why they are not accepting mail from my server? I'm not having a problem with mail forwarded to any other ISP, and it seems to be just BT that is rejecting the mail.
    I hope someone can advise.

    Having been on Thunderbird for some years I have suddenly got the following message when trying to send mail.
    An (SMTP) error occurred while sending mail. The server responded: Requested action aborted: This mail account has sent too many messages in a short amount of time. Please try later..
    I have checked the SMTP server settings in tools, account settings and they are as they have always been. Is there something I have missed?

    Sending through web mail is totally irrelevant to using an SMTP server. The message even says it is from the server. Why do you think this is a Thunderbird problem.
    The provider has put in place measures to keep people from spamming other email recipients using thier SMTP server. You have seen the result of those measures.

    1) Able to telnet the Exchange server through Data service machine
    2) Maintained SMTP settings in Data services server manager
    3) using the same SMTP server host name in other SAP systems (ECC,BI,PI) etc and able to send mails.

    Thanks for the reply Julian.
    There was a problem in SMTP relay rights on Exchange server. Able to send mails now. Thanks!
    Getting another problem wherein I am not able to send mails to multiple recipients i.e. If I specify 5 recipients in SMTP_TO function and execute the job then Every individual is getting E-Mail having there own ID in TO field, other Id's are not gettting displayed in TO field.
    I hve checked note "1276348 - smtp_to function - multiple recipients not displayed"
    Settings mentioned in the note have been done and job is getting executed without any error but the mails are not getting delivered.
    It would be great if anyone can suggest on how to proceed here.

  • SMTP ERROR in Messenger Express

    This is iMS 5.2.
    You compose a message in messenger express, click send then a greeted by a small popup window with the comtents that simply read "SMTP ERROR". In the http log (/msg-luke/log/http/http) you find:
    [12/Jul/2002:15:18:26 -0500] luke httpd[15226]: General Notice: lebond[192.168.1.6] created message <[email protected]>

    15:18:20.74: SMTP routine failure from SMTPC_ENQUEUE
    Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm not convinced that these two log entries are related, could be, but I do not think so right now.
    In configutil have you defined, service.http.smtphost? If not, the default, then it is set to localhost. Can you telnet localhost 25?
    If you get a response on port 25 on the same machine then I would increase the log level of the MTA and try from webmail again. It is upsetting that the webmail client does not give you more of an error message, it really should.

  • JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address

    JES Messaging Server 6.0 will not accept mail alternate address
    I have installed the Sun ONE Messaging server 6.0 as part of an evaluation of the Java Enterprise System. This was installed along with Directory Server 5.2 and Identity Server 6.1. During the installation I created a top level organization (o=internet) knowing that I would want to create multiple email domains within it and a default domain. After the installation was complete I used the User Management Utility (/opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin) to create some users within the default domain. I provided each user with a primary email address ([email protected]) and an alternate email address (mailAleternateAddress = [email protected]).
    In testing the system I find that the Messaging Server will not accept messages sent to the alternate email address whether sent from the same server (via Messenger Express) or from an external server. It returns the error message: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias.
    In attempting to trouble shoot this problem I have watched the Directory Server's access log when such an email is sent. It shows a query using [email protected] even though the email message was sent to [email protected] In any event the DS finds the user, but the Messaging server rejects the message.
    [date_time] conn=120 op=11 msgId=12 - SRCH base="o=domain.com,o=internet" scope=2 filter="(mail=[email protected])" attrs="preferredLanguage mail mailEq
    uivalentAddress"
    [date_time] conn=120 op=11 msgId=12 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1 etime=0
    [date_time] conn=120 op=12 msgId=13 - SRCH base="o=internet" scope=2 filter="(&(objectClass=sunManagedOrganization)(|(associatedDomain=host.domain.com)(sunPreferredDomain=host.domain.com)))" attrs=ALL
    [date_time] conn=120 op=12 msgId=13 - RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=0 etime=0
    Any suggestions to eliminate this problem would be appreciated.

    Both the primary and alternate email addresses are the same as the domain of the user.
    Here is what I want to do. Email is sent to a primary email server (not this machine). Mail for some users stays on that server to be read and mail for other users is moved to a geographically separate server (the one in question) by specifying that the mail be forwarded to the specific host: [email protected] > [email protected]
    On this second server I want to host two (or more) independent email domains. I do not want one of the domains to be a subdomain of the other. So during the installation I used o=internet as the root suffix and then used a different default domain (representing one of the registered internet domains). After installation I used the commadmin tool to create a second domain so now I have what looks something like this:
    o=internet,
    __ou=People
    __ou=Groups
    __o=domain1
    ____ou=People
    ____ou=Groups
    __o=domain2
    ____ou=People
    ____ou=Groups
    I then created some users under domain1 and some under domain2 so one user's dn is:
    uid=user, ou=people, o= domain1.com, o=internet.
    Mail sent locally to user@ domain1.com gets delivered correctly, but sending to [email protected] does not.
    host2.domain1.com is the fully qualified domain name of the server.

    Dear all,
    Running Iplanet Messaging server 5.2 P1.While sending a message in webmail when i click on send i get the message smtp error.After going through the logs i found the following entries

    ion timed out
    I have checked that the functionality of the dns and it is working fine.there is no issue with our network also..Can anyone throw some light on this.
    Thanks in advance

    If you get an error in webmail every time you click "send", that means that either:
    1. your service.http.smtphost or service.http.smtpport is incorrect. These default to your local store system, but if they've been changed to point to some other box, that box isn't responding
    or
    2. Your store box isn't correctly configured to accept mail from "localhost".
    The message you find from the MTA is totally unrelated. That message is telling you that when Messaging Server attempted to send to the address outside your network, that connection wasn't made, the remote server timed out.
    The remote server could be down, or simply not running a mail server at the time the message attempt was made. "Q" means, we reQueue the message, and try again, later,using the "backoff" settings.

  • UTL_SMTP and SMTP-Error: 530 Authentication required

    Hi,
    I wanna use the utl_smtp-package and while testing the example of the 9i-documentation, I got the error:
    ORA-29279: Permanent SMTP-Error: 530 Authentication required
    The only help I found was the sentence in the docu:

    What does it mean and how can I avoid this error?
    It's true, that my smtp-account of my provider needs an authentication (pop3 before smtp!)
    Thanx a lot!

    Hey, Community Girl!  I just spent 2 days ripping my hair out over this same issue...  The answer was maddeningly simple/stupid.  In Outlook...  they ASK for your "user name" and "Password" (on the More Settings Tab).  What they
    actually WANT is your "email address" NOT your "user name", followed by your password.  This is easy.. I hope it works the same for you.
    In Outlook, go to Tools, Email Accounts, View or Change, click Next.  Highlight account information and click change.  In the lower right of the page... Click More Settings.
    Click the Outgoing Server Tab.
    Check the My outgoing server SMTP requires authorization.
    Check Log on Using:
    User Name:  Do NOT type your user name here... type your email address!
    Password:  Type in your password.
    Check the Remember password box.  OK
    That one small change FIXED 2 days of hair pulling on my part... I hope that does it for you too.
    Let me know...  I'd be interested if you fixed it.  Wish they had actually asked for what they wanted... User Name or Email Address ARE two different things!  Good luck!
    South Texan, you're a genius!  This 530 Authentication error has plagued me for 3 years now; when I call my internet service, they say it's a router firewall issue; when I call them, they say it's not their issue.  Changing the User Name field to
    my email address instead of my user account name worked!!!!! Thank you!!

  • E-mail sending from PL/SQL fails with SMTP error 550 must check for new....

    We have a issue like this. We have a e-mail program (PL/SQL stored procedure which is called from a 10g R2 form) which sends e-mails using UTL_SMTP. It was working but suddenly from day-before-yesterday stopped working. Mail admin says he did not change any mail server paras.
    The DB is in Linux so is the mail server. We finally did a code change. Now the mail goes to SMTP server but the mail does not go out of it (to a gmail address). We did a trace of the SMTP log and found out that it throws *550 [email protected] must check for new mail first* .

    Wed 2012-04-25 19:20:11: Session 17159; child 1What could be the problem here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Finally figured out the problem and fixed it. Now it is working.
    *"must check for new mail first"* means that before sending mail you have to check your mails (i.e. download) your mails first from the mail server, because the normal setting is for SMTP servers is that you can send mail only if you received a mail. So, when you receive a mail (i.e. check mail), your IP is recorded in the SMTP server log. Now if you send a mail, only mails with the IPs which has received any mail will be allowed to send mails outside.
    In order to only a send a mail without receiving any mail first you have to use SMTP authentication.
    I.e. After
    c := utl_smtp.open_connection(p_smtp_host, p_smtp_port);
    utl_smtp.EHLO(c, p_smtp_host);  You have to give UID/PWD for the SMTP server like this:
    utl_smtp.command( c, 'AUTH LOGIN');
    utl_smtp.command( c, utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( utl_encode.base64_encode( utl_raw.cast_to_raw( p_un))) );
    utl_smtp.command( c, utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( utl_encode.base64_encode( utl_raw.cast_to_raw( p_pwd))) );However, when we sent like this we got a another SMTP error:
    554 Message is not RFC compliant; missing "Date" header To solve this do this: Go to Setup -> Default Domain & Servers, Servers, uncheck ...refuse
    messages which are not RFC compliant. That will allow MDaemon to accept  the malformed messages without date headers..Doing this solved the problem. Now we can send mails to outside mail boxes (like Gmail). In Gmail, when we checked the inbox there was no mail. It had gone the Spam folder. This is also important since you have to check the spam folder since Gmail will think it is spam. Once the mail is flagged as "not spam" it will start coming to your inbox.

  • Server socket programming issue

    Hi there and thanks for visiting my post,
    I'm writing a instant message application. I've written a multi-threaded server that constant listens for socket connections on port 4001. When a connection is received by the server, it adds the thread (client) connection to an array (of fixed size, I allow a max of 100 connections or so) and starts the thread. Here's the code:
    import java.io.*;

    Now finally for my problem...this all works EXACTLY as expected when I telnet to the server. My client GUI application has an issue though. When I want to send an IM to a particular user...the thread code above that listens for *DISPATCHIM* get's who the IM is to and what the message is in the following protocol format *DISPATCHIM to msg* and call the following private method:private void dispatchIM(String to, String m) {
    for (int i = 0; i < MAX_CONNECTIONS; i++) {
    if (t[i] != null) {
    if (t[i].username.trim().equals(to)) {
    pmClientHandler x = t[i];
    PrintStream ps = x.sender;
    ps.println("IMMSG "+this.username+" "+m);
    Basically, if not obvious, what I'm doing here is iterating through the array of client connection threads and finding the client thread that belongs who this message is to, and accessing the sender object and dispatching to the IM to that client. Again, all works perfectly in telnet. However, my client GUI is not recieving any data. With all my testing, it seems that I am only able to access and modify strings and boolean variables, however it's like I've lost the sender object (only in my GUI app). This is really bugging the hell out of me and I've spent days trying to figure this out. Something is just not right. My client app has a dispatcher thread that constantly listens for incoming connects (if a buddy is online, or an instant message). This is the run method of that class:public void run() {
    String data;
    while(true) {
    try {
    try {
    data = reciever.nextLine();
    if (!data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("YES") && !data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("NO") && !data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("X") && !data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("Z")) {
    System.out.println("Foreign command: "+data);
    } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println("ERR: "+e); break; }
    // pass any data returned at any time during to the serverListener method
    serverListener(data);
    } catch (Exception e) { }
    * Method is used to handle all incoming messages from the server.
    private void serverListener(String data) {
    if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("IMMSG")) {   // Handle incoming im
    String imStr = data.substring(1).trim();
    String imFrom = imStr.substring(0,imStr.indexOf(" ")).trim();
    String imMsg = imStr.substring(imStr.indexOf(" ")).trim();
    // Check to see if we have any IM sessions open already
    if (isChatWithBuddyOpen(imFrom)) {
    imWindow thisIMSession = getIMSession(imFrom);
    thisIMSession.appendBuddyMessage(imMsg);
    thisIMSession.setVisible(true);
    } else {
    newIMSession(imFrom);
    imWindow thisIMSession = getIMSession(imFrom);
    thisIMSession.appendBuddyMessage(imMsg);
    thisIMSession.setVisible(true);
    // Garbage collection for old IM sessions
    if (!imSessions.isEmpty()) {
    for (int i = 0; i < imSessions.size(); i++) {
    imWindow isGarbageIM = imSessions.get(i);
    if (isGarbageIM == null || isGarbageIM.chatBuddy.trim().equals("")) {
    imSessions.remove(i);
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("Z")) {  // Handle user is away response
    String userResponse = data.substring(1).trim();
    clientGUI.handleUserAwayMsg(userResponse, true);
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("X")) {  // Handle user is online response
    String userResponse = data.substring(1).trim();
    clientGUI.handleUserAwayMsg(userResponse, false);
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("ISBUSY")) { // Handle user is busy response
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("NOTBUSY")) { // Handle user is not busy
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("ISINVISIBLE")) { // Handle user is invisible
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("NOTINVISIBLE")) { // Handle user is  not invisible
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("YES")) {  // Handle user is online
    String userResponse = data.substring(3).trim();
    clientGUI.handleUserOnlineMsg(true,userResponse);
    } else if (data.trim().toUpperCase().startsWith("NO")) {  // Handle user is offline
    String userResponse = data.substring(3).trim();
    clientGUI.handleUserOnlineMsg(false,userResponse);
    } // end serverListener method
    It's like my receiver object gets NOTHING. Again, this only occurs with my GUI app, in telnet. Can anyone PLEASE advise as to what might be occuring. Thanks very much. If you might really be able to help I could post the entire app and server zipped up so that you can poke through. If you help me figure this out and I understand why it's not working, I'll buy you a case of your favorite beer ;) A couple of things.
    In future Networking related questions should be posted into the Networking forum.
    There is too much code here and too much page width. It's a bit overwhelming. You'll need to narrow this down a bit. From looking so far I see some potential
    portocol related issues. Like the readLine. Are you sure you are always writing line breaks on the other side? And then there's the substring bits which are
    going to be brittle.
    My suiggestion would be to trace things through and be able to point out exactly where the code is getting stuck/failing. Even getting it narrowed down to a method
    would be very helpful.
