Need new ink jet printer for Mac G4 with classic

I've searching for a new color inkjet printer for my G4 with Classic and have found only 1 by Epson, the R800. However, I'm getting different answers from various techs. One said I just need to get a print server. A tech at Epson says it probably won't work for my classic mode if the OS 9 software is booted up with an OS 10 driver. I don't know the answer to this or exactly what it means!!! Most of my printing would be done with OS 9 software. I have been using an HP laser printer and an HP color inkjet on all 3 of my networked Macs with no problem. Can anyone tell me if the Epson R800 will work? Thanks, Ann C

No audio for Mac Pro (mid-2012) running Win8.1 on Boot Camp

I've seen discussions around the 'net centered around this difficulty for Macbook users, but users experiencing this with a full-size (desktop) Mac Pro are hard to find. My mid-2012 Mac Pro, (running Yosemite on the Mac side) recently got entangled in the world of Boot Camp when I recently installed Windows 8.1, and I have since been unable to produce audio output from the Line Out. (My headphone output works fine, though it feels like browser audio seems a bit subdued. That's a topic for another discussion, though.) Most of the forum solutions for Macbooks that I've seen involve updating audio drivers, but I can't find any links or recommendations relevant to a mid-2012 Mac Pro. Has anybody else suffered this problem, and managed to conquer? I really don't want to get caught up in ping-pong between Apple's support geeks and Microsoft's nerds.

What is the best program to Rip DVD with 5.1 audio for Mac Book

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here. Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on computers. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature.
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. I'm not sure how it handles 5.1 audio, though, if it will at all.

Audio for mac mini

As of right now i have a generic surround sound system hooked up with my xbox 360. I am actually buyin a mac mini here in a week. This surround sound will only take AV cables (Red White) Will the mac mini support that and are there any cables that i can buy for that?

Netcams with Audio for Mac?

Does anyone out there know if there are any wireless netcams that work with OSX and have audio? I have set up numerous Panasonic netcams to monitor my 87 year old mother at her home and all is great except they require Active-X for the audio so only IE gives audio capabilities. I've searched and searched and have had absolutely no luck. I run Windows 7 in Fusion and can then get the sound but I'm trying mightily to be off Windows for good. I'd also like to get the audio on my iPad but on my MacBook Pro is the most important.

I just recently registered on this forum to see if I could help with answering questions from the users here. I did this because I like the apps and aims of Mozilla, and I'm willing to spend time helping people out with using these apps if I'm able to. That being said, questions worded like the one above do not make me want to spend much time being all that helpful.
My suggestion is that you wait a few hours (or day or so) before posting about a problem that is causing some negative emotional response for you.
If anyone has the same problem as what is described above, please post more information about their software versions (i.e. flash version), and whether or not the issue remains when taking the flash plugin out of the equation and using HTML5 on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/html5).
My initial thought is that the issue is with the flash plugin being used. Has another flash version been used?

I'm using the note taking view of Word 2011 for Mac so I can record a meeting as well as take notes. The audio of the internal microphone is so low - can I attach an external mic and have it work with note taking view?

I've tried preferences to up the volume of my sound, but I still cannot hear the recording. Any suggestions? A USB microphone can work with the Air, and I've used them before with my 11" Air. Griffin also made a product (the iMic) that will add a standard computer microphone port, connecting to your USB port. It's heyday was the time of the old iBook laptops (which also lacked a microphone in jack) but I think it's still around.
The single sound port on the 2011 models, as I recall, supports iPhone style headphone/microphone but I don't believe it will support a standard microphone input.
The built in microphone sits on the left side of the computer and I suspect wouldn't work well for picking up a lecture unless you were sitting just right in position vs. the speaker (preferably having the speaker positioned to the left and sitting really close). By design most laptop microphones presume they are going to be mainly used to record a sound coming from the person sitting at the keyboard, while for a lecture you normally would prefer it concentrate on sound coming from behind the screen.

Thanks for the reply. I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long. After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix. I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

XM to "any playable audio format" converter for Mac - where to find one?

I have one .XM file, it is audio. I want to play it, but I have to convert it to something playable first. Any of you know a converter that works on a Mac?

After Effects CC 2014 plays/renders incorrect audio for mp3 (Mac OS X Yosemite)

I'm translating the audio for a number of animations made in AE. Sometimes when the mac users import new audio in another language, AE plays and renders a totally different mp3 file than what has been imported. It is playing another piece of translated audio from another folder but I can't tell where from (as it's in another language).
When I click reveal in Finder, the track in Finder plays the correct audio.
When I re-import after purging and emptying caches, AE still plays the wrong audio.
I found a work around where if I copy and re-name the audio and import that it works. The problem is, we can't tell when this has occurred until reviews have been performed and it's costing us a lot of time in re-renders and fixing.
Does anyone know what causes this problem? Has anyone even encountered it?

Sure: You are using MP3 files. AE never has been good with them. Convert them to WAV/ AIFF.

Captivate 6 for Mac too buggy for use (screen corruption, mouse/audio instability)

Corrupt Screens. The main problem is corrupt screens (visually jumbled, with elements of previous screens). The corrupt screens appear in both Preview in a Web Browser and in a published project. I've observed the problem when I capture website interactions (using either Safari or Firefox). It might be isolated to web browsers and not other applications, but I'm not sure. The project slides themselves look fine. The problem occurs during the transition to an HTML/SWF-based preview or published file.
Unfortunately the problem appears to be intermittent and unpredictable: one Preview (in Web Browser) might show one corrupt screen; a subsequent Preview (in Web Browser) might show four corrupt screens (after making no changes to the Captivate file). It appears to be related to various timeline factors (mouse position, mouse duration). I was able to temporarily eliminate the problem in one project file by making sure all mouse elements had a 2/10th second gap before the end of the slide and were no longer than 2 seconds long. But in a later test, controlling for these variables did not work.
There are two other related bugs that occur in Preview or publish:
Mouse. If I move the mouse object from its original position on the timeline, say, from the end of the slide to a position just before, and then move it back to the end of the slide, the result is faulty mouse behavior. It moves very slowly over the first part of its arc, then either skips suddenly to the destination or doesn't complete the arc at all when the slide advances to the next slide.
Audio. Sometimes the audio for a single slide will not play. This is intermittent and unpredictable, like the screen corruption bug. The problem sometimes goes away after moving the mouse on the timeline slightly, but this isn't reliable.
In any case, moving the mouse away from the end of the slide is not a desirable workaround, even when it does work. The delay between the "click" and the slide transition looks sloppy, and is contrary to the expected mouse behavior (to quickly trigger a slide transition).
I have been working with two people at Adobe tech support, but we have not found a solution or isolated the problem. I've also documented several keystroke bugs on this forum. So, after nearly 3 weeks of aggravation, I have concluded that Captivate 6 for Mac has serious bugs and is not reliable. I am forced to go back to Captivate 5.5.

I have experienced the exact same issues. I've republished files over and over again with unpredictable results. Missing audio, ghost backgrounds, visual artifacts. That doesn't even begin to address the other major annoyances like the stage jumping around when you do things like adjust element properties, audio editor opening up half off the screen so that it has to be manually dragged back EACH TIME.
I'm totally frustrated and disgusted with the quality of this product. I don't care one bit about all the new features it has, I just want the featues that are there to work right and work reliably. Today alone, I lost over 4 hours of productivity to resolving buggy software issues... I'm not exaggerating, 4 HOURS !. This is absolutely unacceptable. The software does NOT work well at all. Adobe should be horrified with how bad this software performs. I can't say enough negative things about this without using expletives that are well deserved.
After purchssing adobe software for 25 years, I am running out of patience. They are too big and too focused on new features instead of just making the ones they have work well. I used to love Adobe more than any other software company. That is definitely no longer the case. I have no intention of up doing any more upgrades after this. If these APPALLING blatant issues are not resolved before they release version 7, I will not upgrade and may well consider enlisting others in a class action suit. Fire all the developers who have a hand in this. Fire all the managers who signed off on it's readiness. Go back to the drawing board and make this right.
I fully intend on posting this in every forum I can find. This software has cost me too much time and money.
