Jetpack LTE and older imac w/airport connection issue

Hello,
I get an error message when trying to login to jetpack lte with an older imac G4 OSX 10.4.11 via the airpot card. Can I disable WEB security on this unit to bypass the WEP security password issue? I can login onto this unit with my Macbook Pro no problem.
This is my mom's computer and I am trying to help her out. It is her only means of internet where she lives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Marten

Marten,
If you disable WEP from the MiFi you will disable security for everyone and leave your device open and vulnerable to moochers.  I do not suggest opening your connection up to the world as anyone who connects without your consent will hold you liable for thier data usage.
Instead, a better technique would be to change the password type from WEP to WPA or preferrably WPA2.  The newer security types will be more secure than WEP anyways and should always be used whenever possible.
Regardless, the steps to change your password to disabled or another type are all the same.  Test them out and choose which ever option will work the best for you.  See the MiFi 890L User Guide for more details:
http://cache.vzw.com/multimedia/mim/vzw_890_jetpack/eufi_890_manual.pdf
To change the MiFi 890L Security Type:
1. Connect a computer to the MiFi
2. Navigate to 192.168.1.1 or http://vz.hotspot
3. Sign into the MiFi with the admin password printed on the back of the device
4. Navigate to WiFi Settings > Security
5. Change the Security Type
6. Confirm and record your wirelss password in the Password field (this will change from type to type)
7. Click Apply

  • Problems with wireless connection between new macbook and older imac

I have just bought a 2.0 ghz macbook core2duo and am unable to connect to my wireless internet network at home. My wireless connection is set up through the airport card in my 17" flat panel imac (i.e. I am using the imac as the internet base station). I had an old clam shell macbook (which just died hence the new macbook) and still have a 400 mhz graphite SE iMac which both connec(ed) to the network perfectly for years. But the new macbook will not connect. It will connect when connected via ethernet. The imac uses Tiger.
I have tried resetting the name of the network, using encryption and not using encryption, but nothing helps. The macbook appears to see the network (although no bars register in the airport connection icon) but I always get an error message when trying to connect.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks

I am not actually using a router as I am using the airport card (non express i believe) in my iMac to send the wireless signal. My modem is Motorola but not sure which model. I have Comcast cable internet service

  • IMac Loses Airport Connectivity

    Hi,
I have two identical 20" Intel Core Duo iMacs (see hardware review below). One is at home and the other at work. I have been experiencing a problem on both computers where my Airport connection drops "randomly". After the connection is dropped ALL available networks are no longer available from the Airport menu, and won't become available again until after a reboot. I've tried toggling Airport on/off, restarting the router, waiting, and nothing but a reboot works. What is odd is that this exact same behavior happens both at home and work -- the router brand is the same at both locations (linksys) but the models are not. I have noticed that this occurs more often when I'm using more network resources (uploading a large file, for example), but that isn't always the case.
Any ideas as to what is going on? I don't have any 3rd party software on my machines that I believe could cause such behavior.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to Discussions, Scott Newman1!
There were a couple of AirPort Extreme Updates (2007-002 and 2007-003) that were meant for Intel-based Macs. I hope you have them both installed. Check your Software Update panel of System Preferences - the "Updates" half of the mini-menu bar to see whether or not they got installed. Even if they did, it will probably be worthwhile to download them straight from Support>Downloads and install them over top of what you have now. I would also do the same with the OS X Combo Update for Intel. Doing all that will not duplicate, will only fill in something missing or flawed.
After doing that, you'll undoubtedly need to delete your configuration and enter a new one using the Network panel of System Preferences. There are a couple angles from which you can approach it with some fiddling. After some fussing, a couple restarts and sitting overnight/a few hours, it should straighten itself out so that you'll never have a problem again. If not, come on back:)

  • IMac - Laptop Airport connection?

Greetings. I have a little issue; I've scoured the Help Boards here for a solution to this problem but mine seems to be a bit different.
I have an iMac 3.0GHz (2008) on the internet via cable modem (I'm in Japan, if it matters). I also have a laptop (PowerBook G4 with an Airport Card). I want to get the laptop on the internet by connecting it wirelessly to the iMac (which is only across the room, for example).
The laptop is capable of finding other wi-fi networks (at schools, cafes, etc.), but not one I just made on my iMac (via the Airport drop-down menu icon that looks like a radar cross-section). And yet, the name of the network that I just created IS VISIBLE in the laptop's Airport drop-down menu! But I cannot get the laptop browsers to access any site.
(Please note that the iMac is running 10.5.5 and the laptop is running 10.3.9.)
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    E.

Excellent information, E. To answer your first question, the setting changes I mentioned should only be performed on the "host" machine - the one with the wired ethernet connection in your case. It sounds from your description like that should be the iMac desktop.
On the laptop, change the settings back to the normal state - Security to what you had, Sharing with the Internet Sharing OFF.
Then, on the laptop, make sure the Airport is on. Pull down the list of networks (by clicking on the Airport icon in the menu bar - though you probably knew that already!) and locate the name you gave to the iMac. Select that name, and the laptop should connect just fine.
Here are some additional details for you (with @ signs as bullets!)...
@ DNS does stand for Domain Name Server (or sometimes System). DNS translates web names into their associated IP addresses. For example, if you were to "ping" a charity I know at www.frrn.org, you would probably get the IP address 209.67.63.95 A DNS server stores the relationship between an IP address and its common name, pointing you to the real location when you type in that common name. This service is usually something your ISP provides. It is for web access, so really doesn't apply to your ability to network one computer to another. Now, if you weren't seeing web pages once you were connected...
@ For your connection sharing, you have one machine, say, that is connected to the network, either by wired Ethernet or via Airport. It can be either, but if I'm understanding your situation correctly, yours is an iMac that's connected to the Internet by wired ethernet cable. We'll call that iMac the "host".
@ You have one machine that is not connected to the Internet. You want to connect it either by Airport or by wired ethernet. In your case, it looks like you want to connect the laptop by Airport. We'll call this laptop the "client".
@ Your "host" has to share its connection. Your "client" simply has to receive the connection - no sharing is required on the client's part.
@ Your host can't share out its connection in the same way it's connected into the Internet. In other words, if your host (the iMac) is receiving Internet through an ethernet cable, it will have to share that connection out through its Airport.
@ When you set up the sharing on your host, then, the "Share your connection from:" relates to how the host is connected to the Internet. (It's the "in" connection for the host.) So, if your host (the iMac) is connected by an ethernet cable, then Ethernet is what you would choose from the dropdown. If, on the other hand, your host were connected to the Internet by its Airport, then you would choose Airport from this dropdown.
@ On the host, "To computer using:" is how you want the unconnected computer(s) to connect to the Internet. (It's the "out" connection for the host.) Since you want the laptop to connect with its Airport, you would select Airport here. If you were wanting to connect an ethernet cable between your iMac and the laptop, you would instead choose Ethernet here.
@ Once you have the host set up, the client, then, just connects as normal for that method (using the Airport dropdown, for example).
In summary, you only set up the host for sharing. You have to set the "Share your connections from:" and the "To computers using:" opposite. Your iMac can't be connected to the Internet through Ethernet and then expect that other computers would be able to connect through that same method. (You have to have separate "in" and "out" connections - one Ethernet, the other Airport.)
I hope all these details aren't confusing you more. It's really easy - just set up the iMac, then connect the laptop as though you were at a wi-fi hotspot, looking for the name you gave to the iMac as the hotspot name.

  • Airport Connection issue

    Hi,
I have a 24" iMac (2.8 C2D), just recently i'm getting an issue with the airport failing to connect to the wireless router when the machine is first booted up. If i then turn the Airport off and back on again it connects straight away and I have no more problems till the next time I reboot.
I only have the one router listed in the connection list.
Can anyone shed any light as to why this is happening and how to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Kam

Sometimes my iPad or iPhone just don't see the network but I restart them. That was just something I wanted to share but do you have any other wireless devices such as your home phone? Disconnect all of them and see if your Mac can connect automatically. If it works then see if can change the frequency of the other devices or if you can't do that or you don't have a clue what I am on about use the Airport utility and find the option which will fix although you do get slower connection as a consequence

  • 2Wire + Airport Connection issue (Help wanted)

    Hello All,
I use a 2Wire HomePortal router to connect to my DSL service, and it works very well with our old PC and my iMac G5 (both ethernet and wireless). I purchased my new MacBook in August, and It connected well to the 2wire network, until two days ago. Right now, all I can connect to with the HomePortal router is via ethernet, which works fine. When I attempt to connect by wireless, I recieve the message "There was an error connecting to 2wire*" It's WEP passcoded, but I already know that I need to put a $ in front of the passkey, so I doubt that's the problem. Also, I can connect to other wireless networks, so I know it isn't a general AirPort problem.
Thanks so much for your help!
    -Belril

I'm not sure how helpful this may be, but I also use a 2WIRE router/modem for my DSL connection. I initially had problems with it and here are the thide ngs that I did to get the connection to work:
    1. Reset the router (I unplugged it and plugged it back in after about 30 seconds)
    2. Made sure that I used the right version of WEP on the AirPort. I had to use the hex key choice to get it to connect.
    After that all was well.
    Good luck...

  • Persistent WiFi/AirPort connectivity issues

If anyone has any input that could help me or perhaps reduce my ignorance, it would be much appreciated.
My Black MacBook has had persistent wireless connectivity issues since I purchased it almost 2 years ago. Even when it shows 3 or 4 bars in my AirPort preferences, it has rather slow page-loading abilities.
For some reason, if I keep selecting my preferred network from my AirPort menu (even when it has NOT dropped the network), that tends to speed up my page load rapidly, but only for a couple of seconds.
It fares a little better when connected directly with Ethernet, but still pretty poor, to the point that I am often mocked by my PC-using friends.
Is there a software update I need? Or a network accessory I can purchase? Or can I replace my built-in wireless card? I am open to anything at this point. Thanks in advance,
    K.

Have you tried connecting directly to your router with an Ethernet cable to see if wired performance is significantly better than wireless? I don't see any other inexpensive solutions.
Spending several hundred dollars or more to upgrade your home router and adding RAM and a new hard drive two-year-old computer is certainly cheaper than buying a new computer outright, but it DOES NOT give you any guarantee of the faster online and video performance you seek.
An 802.11 'n' router (with a gigabit wired connections) would probably help connection speed, IF you have a high-speed internet provider with one of the faster DSL or cable services. The fastest 'n' routers provide up to 300Mbit/sec transfer rates, compared with 54Mbit rates for most of the 'b/g' routers, and some higher-end routers (like the Apple AirPort Extreme) support dual band MIMO for multiple simultaneous connections by the same computer, which provides a potential for greater performance. Stop by an Apple store and ask for a demonstration _with your MacBook_ to see if you experience a enough difference to justify the expenditure.
You have to click the "triangle" after the Intel ICH8-M AHCI to see the detailed drive information dropdown. You seem to have plenty of hard drive space available, but I'm guessing you have a 5400 rpm drive. Upgrading to a 7200 rpm drive would help overall system performance some with faster read and write times, but you really don't need extra space at the moment.
Upgrading to 4Gb RAM could also help if you run lots of programs simultaneously, but might not provide noticeable gains for browsing and online video, since you're already at 2Gb.
Of course there is not an upgrade to the GMA 3100 chipset and 144Mb of video ram. It is better than my GMA 950 with 64Mb, but not as good as newer/faster/better MacBook and MacBook Pro models with faster microprocessors and more sophisticated nVidia video chipsets from Apple.

  • Jaybird headphones and Macbook Pro Retina bluetooth connectivity issues

I recently purchased the Jaybird Bluebuds X Premium headphones and for awhile it would connect to my new Macbook Pro Retina 15'' via bluetooth, but now it doesn't anymore. The headphones connect just fine to my phone (iPhone 4S), and other Macbook Pros (not retina), but they do not connect to other Macbook Pro Retinas. I was wondering if this was a connectivity issue with Macbook Pro Retinas and if so how can I get around it to connect the headphones again?
    Thanks

    Hey there LongHorn16,
It sounds like your Bluetooth headphones aren't working with this one computer, but there is no issue with other devices that you have. I would start with these 2 steps from the following article:
    Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
    Reset your Bluetooth device
Try turning your device off and then on again. If that doesn't resolve the issue, see if you can reset your device—refer to the documentation that came with your device for instructions.

If it still doesn't work, then I would next use this article to remove the device:

Then restart your computer and pair it again:

  • Win2000 Server and OS 10.4.11 connection issues

We have 2 Macs running on a WIN2000 Server we have had no issues up until lately. We connect to a drive on the WIN2000 server and normally it will stay connected all day with no interruptions. Now we both are experiencing at least 2-3 times a day the drive is just disconnected and dropped off our desktop, no dialog box stating this, nothing. We don't even realize it's missing until we try and open something from the drive. We don't even get an error message when we try and save documents to the drive. So please help us. Is it the WIN2000 server or is it our MAC OS X we were wondering if it was the latest security update we have done?

    Hi tsmonson-
If this is a fairly recent problem, and you did nothing to cause it and cannot find a logical explanation otherwise, all things point towards a possible server problem.
Have you had the folks that maintain the server take a look at it?

  • Connecting a G4 and an iMac by airport express

I am trying to connect my iMac and my G4 wireless. I cannot use an Airport card on my G4 due to a damaged connector pin on the main board, so I bought an Airport Express Base Station, which I connect to my G4 using the Ethernet port. According to the sales people this should allow me to set up an airport network and connect to my iMac.
Using the Airport Admin Utility, and selecting "Other" as base station, an IP address is provided and the default password recognized, but an error occurs when reading the configuration of the base station.
My iMac does not find the base station either, using Airport.
I have reset the base station to factory defaults without any success,
Any suggestions what I am doing wrong?
    Greg

You really need a wireless router with ethernet ports to connect to the cable modem to do what you want to do.
The iMac would continue to connect using ethernet from the router and the G4 could as well if you run an ethernet cable from the router to the G4.
Alternately, if you do not want to run the ethernet cable to connect the G4, you may be able to use your AirPort Express and configure it to "join" the wireless network that the wireless router was creating. If the router is compatible with what Apple calls ProxySTA, you can enable the ethernet port on the Airport Express to furnish an ethernet signal to the G4.
But, you must have an AirPort Express"n" to activate this feature and there is really no way to know in advance if it will work correctly. Several product reviews have mentioned that it should be compatible with virtually any wireless network, but that would be impossible to verify.

  • I am connecting to my wireless network but not able to use internet.  Used to work fine on this computer.  Still works fine with iPhone and older iMac.

When I connect (I have it set for Auto DHCP) the IP address that I get is a "bad" address - first 3 digits are 169.  There is no router IP address on summary page.  Any ideas?

169.***.***.** is a self-assigned IP address. The system does this when it cannot obtain a functioning IP address from the DHCP server. There can be myriad reasons, but the following Apple help page shows the way out.

  • 3rd Party Router and an iMac with Airport card

Could someone assist me in setting up an older flat panel iMac 800Mhz with a airport card to a 3rd party router (Speedport W 500V). It was really easy to set up the DSL etc when connecting to an Airport Extreme base station, however I have upgraded and trying to get conencted at my parents place, which have DSL but with the Speedport W 500V modem/wireless combo - any assistance to get the two connected would be appreciated.

Is there a SW tool similar to the Airport Admin
Utility which will allow setting and management of
    the third party router?
There may be (probably Windows only) or you need to use a web based configurator. It will depend on what the manufacturer of your router provides.
The manual which came with the router (it may be in electronic form) should provide guidance on how to configure the router via a browser.

  • IMac looses airport connection intermittantly

Can anyone help me. I have a G4 powerbook (OSX 10.2.8) which runs fine with my Aiport Extreme (firmware 5.1.1). I've just purchased a new iMac (OSX 10.5.6) which connects to the Airport on startup but then looses the connection and restablishes it many time in the day, without any seeming pattern.

  • Final Cut Pro 10.1.1 and older iMac

Final Cut Pro 10.0.9 runs very well on my 2008 iMac & Snow Leopard.
Will there be any problems running FCP 10.1.1 & Mavericks on this computer?

I believe my computer is identical to yours and although the card is not supportd it still works OK
If yours does not work at all you can still use FCP X 10.0.9 which is almost identical to 10.1.1 except for the new Library system  .  .  .  .  I'm sure the old FCP X will do more than you will ever need.
If you are desperate to use the latest FCP X on Mavericks but can't afford an iMac, you could get a Mac Mini complete with third party 24" monitor for half the price of a 21.5" iMac.
The Mini may not be quite as fast as the latest iMacs but it will be a lot faster than your old one.

  • FCP 6.0.5 and Sony HVR-M15U - DV Connection Issue

My head is hurting at the moment. I cannot get my Sony DV deck to be seen in FCP 6.0.5. I can see the deck as HDV. For DV mode, you have to turn on the iLink conversion. I have set the deck to iLink Set - DV SP. BUT... Final Cut Pro does not see the deck at all.
    Here's the specs:
Mac Pro (Late 2007) Quad Pro 3.0
8 gig of matching paired RAM
FCS 2.0 with all of the latest updates.
    MacOS 10.5.6

AJA Io driver version 2.01 - disconnected unless needed for capture from older tape decks
    ATI Radeon XT1900 (512 RAM)
ATTO Celerity FC-42ES fiber channel card
    Quicktime 7.6
Adobe Creative Suite Premium CS3 (with all updates applied)
I have checked Apple's tech site and forums, nothing other than removing the old Quicktime receipts and reinstalling Quicktime. I tried this... Still nothing. I tried to use another deck, a Sony HVR-M10U. Nothing!
Before you say, its the firewire connection in the computer, HDV does work just fine. Its DV that doesn't work. I have used it just fine with Adobe Premier Pro CS3 (DV capture and Export to Tape). Apple's iMovie sees the deck just fine, too. I wish I had an HVR-1500 deck so that I could bypass this issue, but I don't have one.
What I ended up doing was exporting my sequences from FCP using Quicktime Conversion and setting it to DV Stream. Then I can import my video into Premier Pro CS3 and Export to Tape. Works perfectly.
If I go back into FCP and try this, I get an error message telling me the firewire connection is not found. My iLink lights on the front of the deck are also off. Its not showing any iLink connection on the deck. Now, when I open Premier Pro, the iLink light comes on for DVCAM.
    Makes you go, hummmmmm........
    HELP!

    >could not get PP CS5 to display the video
As far as I know (from reading only, I don't do HDV) PPro does not show the video during capture... this is not a bug
You should (again, reading only) be able to see the video in PPro while simply playing it on the camera and not actually capturing
