JHTML support in WLS5.1

There was a defect in version 5.1.0 against J. HTML pages.
If I remember correctly, it is going to be fixed in an upcoming service
pack.
Technical support should have more information.

I have tried jHTML using WLS5.1 SP1 and have the following problem:
jHTML seems to loose the requested page and only returns index.jhtml
(default page). It does seem to pay attention to directories, but we
have too many files for that to be practical.

Hi,
I'm working with a company that is considering moving from WLS 4.0.3
to
WLS 5.1. I have tried to install some sample JHTML pages and I can't
get them to work. I read another message earlier that said JHTML was
broken in WLS 4.5.1 and would be fixed in WLS 5.1. Can someone tellme
if this is fixed. I was not able to run pages that work under 4.0.3in
5.1.
FYI, the previous answer about the conversion tool is not the desired
response. My client has a MAJOR investment in 4.0.3 and was one ofthe
earlier adopters of Weblogic before BEA purchased them. I'm sure they
can pursue this through their support license. However, I wouldreally
like to do some preliminary testing and tell them its possible so wecan
get sign off on the upgrade path.
Thanks,
Steve Wilkinson

  • Jspf (jsp include file) not recognized

              It looks like weblogic doesn't recognize the jspf extension as belonging to "fragments
              of JSP code that will be incorporated using a static include" as recommended by
              the JSP 1.2 spec. That means that such included files are treated as static text,
              not compiled.
              Does anyone know how to teach wls about this extension?

              Nothing in the JSP Specification indicates that jspf extensions should be used for
              static includes, it only address the naming convention. I think it's relevant to
              point out that a dynamiclly included jspf-ragment is not a top level page.
              In Tomcat 4.x this is achived by adding a servlet mapping from *.jspf to the jspservlet
              in the default web.xml file.
              Where can I add an extra mapping from *.jspf to whatever *.jsp is mapped to in Weblogic
              6.1sp1?

  • Why JSP not move to jhtml direction?

    I have both knowledge of JSP and JHTML (from ATG). I like jhtml much more. The jhtml architecture is far superior than jsp. I just list following features:
    * better component naming, using directory and properties, instead of jsp.
    * excellent Form handling capabilities.
    * support expression
    * droplet is more powerful and simple than those customer tag.
    JSP is not better than MS ASP, which has better infrastructure, such as ADO etc. I don't understand why so many developers are fan of JSP, even Servlet! After a while, I am tired of them.

    I can't speak about jhtml, but I do disagree with you about the MS ASP comparison. There are lots of very important reasons why JSP is better, but I'll list a few:
    1. JSP is compiled, ASP is interpreted.
    This results in faster executing code and less bugs due to compile time checking.
    2. JSP (Java) is strongly typed, ASP is typeless (Variants)
    Typed variables are better with memory and much better with reducing bugs due to discovering incompatible data types. Consider the fact that a simple boolean as a Variant in ASP takes up 16 bytes (last I looked at the actual C struct used under the covers).
    3. JSP is platform independent, ASP only runs on Windows. Also, the are many different JSP containers to choose from, ASP only provides one.
    The competition between Weblogic, Websphere, etc. greatly improves the JSP market since the strongest survive over time. Consider the fact that MS only threw out ASP for ASP.Net because J2EE is affecting their market share.
    4. The scalability of ASP is severely restricted by the thread affinity of single-threaded apartments (STA) that IIS sets up to run non-MTS COM components. For example, you are committing scalability suicide if you keep any references to STA components in session or application state. And VB6 can only create STA components. You need VC++ to create MTS components.
    5. JSP has the ability for standard and custom tag libraries, ASP has no capability.
    Tag libraries are proving to be very valuable in the JSP space. A moderate use of well written tag libraries can severely increase developer productivity as well as reduce costs by shifting some page development from expensive Java developers to web designers.
    6. ASP requires IIS, which has major security holes in the software. Attest to the fact that the Code Red virus alone cost over $4 Billion in wasted productivity alone.
    Do not shrug off the above differences. They are major. They are the reason that developers have moved to the JSP world. If you're still not convinced, analyze why MS threw away ASP and produced ASP.Net. Despite what you read, ASP.Net is NOT simply the next version of ASP. They are architecturally two entirely different beasts. The proof of this is the fact that an ASP and ASP.Net page cannot co-exist in the same ASP application. That is, they do not share session or application state or cannot make calls into functions defined within each other. There's a reason for this.
    Except for item 3 and 6, ASP.Net solves all of the above problems. In fact, if you compare .Net to J2EE, it's frightening how MS did not violate some sort of an architectural copyright, if one exists. .Net is effectively a clone of J2EE.
    .Net is a good platform and will do well since MS is very committed to it. If you're a MS shop, you will be in good hands for new development. Besides being a proprietary platform, the only other problem is the massive amount of capital that will be required to migrate the millions of lines of VB, VC++, and ASP code to .Net. All the migration wizards in the world can never solve this!
    Good luck.

  • Macbook Pro & Mini Dispalyport Does NOT Support 10 bit Color Monitors

    I am extremely concerned regarding Apple's Mini Displayport. Mini Displayport has been out for a year now, and is the video out port with the maximum signal output on Macbook Pro's. Apple's Mini Displayport still does not offer the compatibility and performance, that is possible with the standard Displayport implantation on Windows.
    Case in point two monitors from NEC and Eizo, the NEC PA214W and the Eizo CG223W:
    http://www.eizo.com/global/products/coloredge/cg223w/index.html
    http://www.necdisplay.com/Products/Product/?product=5a6621b9-e9c4-4f02-8542-e625 1364bf7c
    All current Macbook Pro's with Mini Displayport are unable to support the 10 bit color that these monitors are capable of. This is unacceptable, and an example of Apple leading customers to believe that Mini Displayport, offers the same capabillities and performance as Displayport.
    It is my understanding that on paper MBP's with the NVidia 9400/9600 are capable of outputting a 10 bit signal. They just do not at this point in time, unlike all PC notebooks with Displayport. Mini Displayport has been sold by Apple as being every bit as capable only smaller than Displayport. The truth is it is not.
    Apple notebooks can not currently produce the same level of quality on these monitors as Windows notebooks with Displayport that have also been on the market for a year now.

    http://www.displayport.org/consumer/
    http://www.displayport.org/consumer/?q=content/faq
    "Performance for a display interface is really bandwidth. So Displayport offers up to 10.8 Gigabits per second. That bandwidth can be allocated for greater color depth (more colors per pixel, i.e.. 30 bit color monitors), it can be allocated to resolution, i.e.. WQXGA , or refresh rate."
    Note: The bandwidth has increased to 21.6 Gbps with the announcement of Displayport v1.2.
    It appears to me that aside from the top of the line (Windows PC) notebooks, that the only systems that will currently be able to achieve 30 bit color with these monitors are going to be desktop systems with Displayport/Mini Displayport and the necessary GPU and Operating System. This is an example of the difficulty in getting accurate information when it comes to what a system can and can not do. Rod correctly pointed out that I was mistaken in saying that "all" PC notebooks with Displayport are capable of achieving 10 bit per channel output, some do not. As BSteely, Lewis, and Rod have discussed Mini Displayport is not what is responsible for the fact that Macbook Pros can not currently output 10 bit per channel signal. Displayport exists and allows for this capability, and I stand by my opinion that currently Macbook Pros with Mini Displayport do not implement the full Displayport spec, in particular the ability to output 10 bit per channel signal to 30 bit color monitors. On the PC side it is the "workstation" class notebooks that have had and continue to have this capability. There may be others, but in reviewing Dell, HP, and Lenovo I am only finding it in the Precision, W series, and Elitebook models. The latest T Series Thinkpads with Quadro GPU's may work as well. At this point, I am not going to research each and every model to determine exactly which notebook models and configurations will work, except to say none of them are Macbook Pros. The lesson here should be get multiple confirmations regarding your system's configuration and your intentions in its use. I was mistaken in my understanding that the MBP 17 with Mini Displayport would support the Displayport spec as it relates to 30 bit color monitors. I have stated what I think is wrong about that, but that is the way it is for now. Apple is not the only company to hype a technology, only to offer a limited implementation of it. "Vista Capable" comes to mind.

    This post will hopefully alert others to this limitation. To end on a positive note, in my experience the last six months with my Macbook Pro, Apple has demonstrated it can resolve issues quickly and effectively, and I have been extremely pleased to the extent that they have worked with me to address the few significant issues that have come up, including a system replacement in quick order. This may or may not be something they will be able to address with the current Macbook Pros or even the next generation. We will see.

  • JDK1.4 & WLS5.1 ?

    Is there any information available whether WLS5.1 will
    officially support JDK1.4 on solaris in the near future?
    Currently JDK1.3.1 is supported by 5.1.
    Cheers

    Don't forget to update the PATH variable to refer to the bin directory of the more recent installation of java 1.5. And remove the reference to the bin directory of the 1.4 version.

  • Custom CSS Cursor support in Safari/Webkit

    I know the documentation says that custom cursors are not supported, but somehow CursorMania has figured out how to do it.
    (The following link is to an ad portal, but this post is not spam)
    http://cursormania.smileycentral.com/download/index.jhtml?spu=true&partner=ZCxdm 238&mtid=1&acid=1057619801
    Any clue how they did this? I've looked through their code, but don't see anything obvious.

    Custom cursors won't work, despite what's implied by that link. It's only a web page using JavaScript to display custom cursors depending on where you place your mouse. They don't work on Mac OS X.

  • Can't attatch console to  WLS5.1 -NamingException

    When trying to attach the console to a copy of WLS5.1 (SP8,domestic
    strength).I am receiving the following error after entering a password and
    clicking 'connect'.
    Cannot connect:
    Unknown NamingException, class= javax.naming.NamingException
    Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
    terry

    I spoke to weblogic support about this, and they were very helpful.
    First try checking the classpath is all as it should be, if it is, and
    the problem still persists try using full paths in the console
    classpath, so, for instance, our startConsole.cmd includes
    :runConsole12
    set
    CLASSPATH=C:\weblogic\lib\weblogic510sp8boot.jar;C:\weblogic\classes\boo
    t;C:\weblogic\lib\weblogic510sp8.jar;C:\weblogic\classes;C:\weblogic\lib
    \weblogicaux.jar
    %JAVA_HOME%\jre\bin\java -ms16m -mx48m weblogic.Console
    goto finish
    Hope this at least gets you started, terry

  • How to start WLS6 to support JPDA debugging?

    with V5, I could use -Xdebug ... on command line to start WLS5 to support

    What I can do with V6?

    Thanks, Joe.
    I used to do that on command line to start. Now that they have a better

    Ya. Its slow. But thats what I have now( I am using the Forte4J CE.)

    I will try anything! Java is useful as C++, but development and debugging

  • JHTML

    Does Dreamweaver support JHTML ?
    If "yes" where can I find this information? (have not been
    able to find any reference to .jhtml in Help)
    If "no" is there any intention to support JHTML in a future
    version? If "yes" when? If "no" why not?

    The answer is no - DW doesn't support JHTML.
    I guess the market for it is not sufficient to warrant
    spending the
    development hours on it.
    Of course, Dreamweaver is fully extensible, so it's possible
    for a
    third-party to develop the addins necessary to support it.
    As for future intention for support - you would have to ask
    Adobe directly -
    this is a user to user forum :)

  • InitialContext() in EJB1.1, WLS5.1

    [I posted this on ...interest.ejb and realized that I might get
    a more knowledgeable response here.]
    In WLS5.1, I'd like to get the name of some bean-specific
    environment variables. I know that I'm supposed to do something
    like so:
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    String s = (String)ic.lookup("java:/comp/env/MyEnv");
    I get that much. What I would like to do is put this call into
    a static method in a utilities-oriented class like so:
    class MyUtils {
    static Object getEnvVal(String envName) {
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    return ic.lookup("java:/comp/env/" + envName);
    So my question is, can InitialContext() be called in a static method?
    If not, then that makes sense given how I interpret the spec EJB1.1
    14.2.1.2.
    But if so, then how do I distinquish between one bean's environment
    value versus another's when both beans are deployed in the same
    descriptor?
    e.g., in bean1, String s = (String)MyUtils.getEnvValue("MyEnv");
    vs in bean2, String s = (String)MyUtils.getEnvValue("MyEnv");

    When you say it 'worked on 6.0 SP2', do you mean the bean with the
    Vector field actually runs
    on 6.0 SP2 (and you can store and retrieve Vector values), or that it
    just passes ejbc?
    Complex Serializable object types, like Vector, have never been
    supported in CMP 1.1, as far
    as I know, but we probably didn't add a compliance check until 6.1.
    Our EJB 2.0 CMP supports Vector and other complex object types.
    Also, please don't cross post.

    work on WebLogic6.
    Thanks for any help.
