JInitiator 1.3.1.29 keeps trying to reinstall
I am trying to install JInitiator 1.3.1.29.
Everytime I access a particular site, even though the JInitiator has already been installed onto my computer, it tries to reinstall again.
I am using IE 6 and Windows XP sp 2
Things I have tried so far:
1. I cleard the temp internet files and cache files
2. I cleared the java cache (jar) files.
3. I deinstalled all the installed JInitiators that were installed on my computer (there were two).
4. I went to C:/Program Files/Oracle and deleted all of the files and directories there.
5. Verifed that my IE isn't blocking pop-ups.
I went back to the website and allowed it to install JInitiator 1.3.1.29.
It said that it installed successfully. But when I tried clicking on the link on the webpage again, it tried to reinstall the JInitiator 1.3.1.29 again.
This seems to work fine for a co-worker on my team. I am working with her to see what the differences are between her computer and mine.
Anyone know why this is happening??

Moving around or deleting components of QT is only going to create problems. For example, if you delete QTOControl dll, QTOLibrary dll, QTUIPanelControl dll from C:\Program Files\QuickTime. QuickTime would start to re-install when you try to open QT player. If you try to open a file you'd get error 46 DirectX.
If you restore them back from the recycle bin, things will work correctly again. What your doing to tidy the computer makes no sense

Creative Cloud desktop keeps trying to reinstall updates
Just over the last week or so, Creative Cloud desktop keeps trying to reinstall the same updates for Photoshop CC, Photoshop 6 and Bridge CC over and over again. As we do not have a fast broadband connection, this blocks the internet for everyone else at the same location for about an hour. I am running Bridge 6.0.1.6 and Photoshop CC 14.2.1. I thought I had wholly uninstalled PS6 on the machine in question (Retina MacBook Pro), so I don't understand why CC desktop is trying to update it. Updates have installed for each of the last three days, so I cannot imagine there is another huge update waiting to install again today, as CC desktop shows.
In addition CC destop keeps losing LightRoom 5 from my Apps. I already had a copy of LR5, which came with a Leica Camera but just to make sure it was linked to my CC acount, I reinstalled it via the CC desktop. It was showing as one of my updated apps but this morning has dropped down to showing "install" again, even though the latest version 5.4 is defintiely installed, synched and working.

I guess I'm a little mystified by this reply. I've reported no problem signing in or out of adobe, nor have I experienced any.
I've been going along with a creative cloud desktop and updates for over a yr now so not sure how my install would suddenly be 'faulty'. Complete removal and reinstall is something like a days work if you have any related difficulties at all yet it seems to be the most often suggested remedy.
Is there no chance of something that does not require a hefty input of my time getting the tools to work rather than using them, that can be done to remedy what seems to be something like a stuck routine in the install routines?
Any other folks with an idea about this? -
Itunes 8 worked fine the first time, now it keeps trying to reinstall.
So I downloaded itunes 8 the first day it became available with no problems. I opened it to make sure all my music was there, and turned on Genius then closed it. The next day when I go to open itunes, it tries to install again and it gave me an error message saying there was a fatal error with the shortcut or something like that. I've tried to download again and I get the same message. I also tried to uninstall and I get the same error message. I don't know what to do. I've tried every solution to fix the problem posted on this site with no luck. I'm banging my head against the freakin desk. Can anyone help me, if it helps I have vista and it gives me error 2330 saying windows encountered an error while installing the package, then it tells me there is a fatal error with the shortcut.
Thanks alot Apple.I had a similar problem with 8.0 a few days after upgrading from 7.7 to 8.0. I received a message as the following:
'3DE45K...........12KD' is not a short filename'.
I finally got rid of this by detaching my USB flash drive, which contained foler name mentioned in the error message.
If you are getting a specific file/folder name, I would suggest finding out where it is. You should get some idea how to attack it.
To get a prior version of go th the following URL:

and look on the right side for release you want.
Uninstall 8.0 and install your desired release of iTunes.
To get the library for a prior release (iTunes won't work with a library created by a newer release), go to the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder. Copy the file the appropriate file and rename the duplicate file to "iTunes Library.itl". Place it in the "iTunes" folder, replacing the file that was created for iTunes 8.0.
At this point, you should be good to go. the number 8 may be lucky for the Chinese but it is a disaster for iTunes. -
R&R 4.21 keeps trying to reinstall
I have an X61T (7767-BFG) running Vista SP1 with all MS and Lenovo updates installed up to and including yesterday (29 April)
If I try to start Rescue & Recovery from the start menu, windows installer runs then stops with a copy error ('An error occurred while copying file tvtfilter.sys'). Retry doesn't work but if I click 'cancel' R&R appears to start normally (after windows installer rolls back). Similarly, if I click to launch advanced rescue and recovery from the basic screen, windows installer runs again, fails, then the advanced screen of R&R comes up apparently normally.
It looks as if its working (but I doubt it!) but I daren't try to backup or restore since something is obviously wrong. I thought about re-installing R&R but I can't see it in the SWTOOLS\Apps folder (though there are many other programs there).
I had to restore my entire system from a backup several weeks ago but I have since successfully run a full backup and 2 incremental backups. Unfortunately I don't know at what stage this break actually happened. I first identified the problem about a week ago and I have spent several days installing the latest updates (manually from the Lenovo updates site since the automatic update is no longer operational, but that's another story!) to see if any of them corrected the problem. Unfortunately not!
The only program change I can recall recently was to remove Mcafee 8.5 and replace with AVG 8.5 Internet Security (since I changed employer and previously used an enterprise licence). I don't see why this should have caused the problem though.
I've tried everything I can think of so would be grateful for any advice or assistance.No replies yet so here's an update:
I downloaded the Rescue and Recovery file from the Lenovo support sire (tvtvrnr42_1015en.exe) and ran a 'repair' installation.
Program says it completed succesfully so I rebooted. Unfortunately nothing has changed.
Anyone have any ideas? -
Uninstalled apps keep trying to reinstall
I just got a new Z3 Tablet Compact (wifi only). I already have an Xperia Z1 phone, and when I entered my account all the apps I had installed on my phone were installed on my tablet. However, some of these are apps I would never use on my tablet, such as activity monitors, apps that link to my cell provider, etc. So I uninstalled them, using the menu on the right hand side of the screen and checking the ones I didn't want. All is well.
However, every time I turn on the tablet, it starts reinstalling these apps. How can I stop this from happening?I had actually tried that.
I made a mistake on my previous post. The menu I used first to uninstall was the left-hand menu (not the right-hand) when you're in the app screen. On that menu, when you click uninstall, there appears a little box with an x next to each app except the ones you can't uninstall. when you touch that box, the app goes away. It's actually a nice and easy way to uninstall things.
The first time the apps reinstalled themselves, I thought maybe I should have used Settings/Apps instead, and uninstalled them from there. However, the same thing happened again. Out of curiosity, I uninstalled a few from the app screen menu, and checked to see if they still appeared in the Settings/Apps menu, and they didn't.
However, it hasn't happened again, and the only reason I can see that it's stopped is that in the meantime I've cleared the notifications list, that tells you what apps have been installed. It's not very intuitive, but I hadn't done anything else that would have stopped it. -
Quicktime 7.1.3 Keeps trying to reinstall
I have installed Quicktime 7.1.3 - but I like to keep my computer tidy so have deleted the program group and put the quicktime icon in a video Dir were I put all my video players - have deleted the quick launch Icon as I do not want it there. Now whenever I try and use Quicktime it starts to reinstall and puts the Quicktime Dir in the Program list and the icon back in the quick launch group. how do I stop this from happening or am I not going to be able to use Quicktime? will I have to uninstall it as it does not work how I want it to.

So I keep trying to sync music to my iPhone from iTunes, and whenever I select the album the sync goes by really fast and nothing goes onto my phone. Then when I click "On this iPhone" it shows the songs, but they're grey, and I can't click on them. Help?
Ok, sorry. And yes, I just restored my iPhone as new and tried to put all the songs on there before I even restored with my previous backup, but it still does the same thing... even when I just checked the option to sync only "selected music or videos". How's that possible?
P.S. After I tried syncing with checked songs only, nothing showed up under Music on my phone and this message popped up in iTunes: "The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." If you could, please tell me what that means, thanks. -

what is going on here. all of a sudden my itunes wont run because it is missing a new fill. update wont install now when i uninstalled and tried to reinstall i keep getting this message box what do i do?
Go tot the Apple support troubleshooting area I had the same problem. You have to remove all the apple stuff in a particular order then reinstall/dowmload i tunes again it worked for me, a pain yes! But I now have Outlook loading issues so if anyone knows what that problem is and how to solve it please let me know

Mac keeps trying to log into a Windows server with old password.
My iBook for some reason is trying to log into a server at work we use to share files on (let's called it Xserver). I recently discovered through logging my network traffic on my router at home, that my machine was still trying to access XServer.rr.com Xserver.socal.rr.com even when I was not in the office. It doesn't stop trying, over and over and over it goes, trying to find XServer. I was wondering why my account on XServer kept becoming Locked Out (Windows Server), and this is obviously the answer because it's not using the correct password.
How can i find out where OSX is instructed to connect to XServer automatically and keep trying, and tell it to stop?Look in SystemPreferences>Accounts>yourAccount...and then into Login items. see if this server login is set to be automatic there.
If it's just a wrong password you need to fix, look into Utilities>KeychainAccess...see if this server is in there, remove it. Or do Keychain FirstAid.
There is an automount function somewhere, but I forget where that is. -
I am trying to setup wireless using my old dome Airport Extreme Base station. I had previously used it about 5 years ago when I had dial up but have now switched to DSL with Windstream. I can not get connected as the ABS keeps trying to dial up(the old phone number). When I tried to change my network settings an annoying popup window says "your network settings have been changed by another application'. I have no idea what the message is all about and when I close this window it immediately pops up again and prevents me -as far as I can tell -from changing my Airport settings? I need advice on how to get this wireless setup done. Maybe a reset? or something else? I have the DSL phone line plugged into WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem and then the ethernet (yellow) wire from the WIndsteam Seimens Speedstream 4200 modem to the port on the dome that is a circle of dots.
1)Can you explain how using the AEBS as a bridge will work with the Seimens Speedstream4200?
As a bridge, the AEBS will basically become a wireless access point. This will allow the AEBS to provide a wireless network, but still allow the Speedstream to provide NAT & DHCP services for the wireless clients connected to the AEBS. If the AEBS was left as a router, you would have a double-NAT condition which isn't necessary bad in itself, but would create a second subnet. That would make it more difficult for clients connected to the AEBS to access clients connected to the Speedstream.
2) Is there a link that will guide me through the steps to set the AEBS as a bridge?
You can easily reconfigure the AEBS as a bridge using the AirPort Utility.
ref: AirPort Utility > Select the AEBS > Manual Setup > Internet > Internet Connection > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
3)Can I just connect the DSL phone line to the AEBS and eliminate the Speedstream4200?
Unfortunately no. The AEBS does not have a built-in DSL modem. You will still need the Speedstream to provide this function. -
Something keeps trying to download on my mac and I don't know what it is. It is not in the apple store and just comes out nowhere and request for my password to download something and I don't know what it is. How to make this stop? It pops up every single day.

I can, with 99.99% certainty, tell you that you are absolutely right in not wanting to download or install this "Helper," whatever it is (but we can be equally certain it would not "help" anything).
I cannot comment as to Oglethorpe's recommendation of 'adwaremedic'; I am unfamiliar with it. His links to the Apple discussion and support pages warrant your time and attention.
It might be really simple -- Trying looking in your Downloads folder, trash anything that you don't know with certainty is something you want to keep, and then Secure Empty your Trash. Then remove the AdBlock extension, LastPass, and Web of Trust extensions to Safari and re-boot. If the issue goes away, still be extraordinarily careful in the future.
Unfortunately, it's probably not going to be that simple to get rid of, in which case I'd then try the line by line editing in HT203987.
I have no further suggestions (other than a complete wipe and re-install...but that's a pain because trying to restore from Time Machine would simply ... restore the Mal).
For the rest of us, please post when you find a solution.

My OS is Windows XP version service pack 3. I even tried to install FF4 but it never get installed. As I mentioned my FF keeps trying to update itself but it gives the error message I provided in title. Now I don't have access to my FF browser and my life is stopped because I have all my passwords saved on FF. I restarted my notebook but it stills try to update itself giving the same error message. I can not also upgrade my Adobe reader 7.0.7 to 10 I have tried more than 10 times but it never gets upgraded. I had this Adobe problem since long time ago.
Run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).<br />
If that doesn't help then do a clean reinstall.
Do a clean (re-)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
A new Windows 8 opp.system. It has Google all through it, I don't like google, but google is who Wildblue uses for mail. Right from the start I tried to set some short cuts to get to mail, but the google stuff already in there would intersept my efforts, so I would have to type in wildblue and thenI would get there and I'm guessing, that Firefox started automatically do the rest. Now that the igoogle start page has gone away, they are fasing it out, it is suppose to go right to my mail, instead it keeps trying to go to igoogle start page, over & over & over & ......

Will this be the norm, or will it self correct?When you start typing in the address bar, Firefox may suggest your most frequently used site address, and show other frequently/recently used sites in a drop-down list. To get Firefox to stop suggesting a particular site, try using the down arrow key on the keyboard to go down and select it, then press the Delete key, then arrow up or down to the site you really want to clear that unwanted address from the address bar.
If you haven't already, you might want to create a bookmark for your new mail site. Not only does this provide one-click access (or two-click, if you use the menu rather than the Bookmarks Toolbar), but it helps speed access when you start typing in the address bar.

With respect to iGoogle, it's possible that going to this page is a Google setting. Two things to check:
(1) While you are logged in to your Google account, check whether you've somehow specified you want iGoogle instead of the main Google page or Gmail.
(2) Remove your Google cookies. This will clear out preferences related to Google that are stored on your computer (separate from the ones stored in your account). You can do that as follows:
First, save any pending work such as draft messages or Google Docs documents you're editing. While viewing a page on Google, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Hopefully now Google will forget your previous interest in iGoogle. -
