Jinitiator: prevent automatic download in Internet Explorer

Is there a way to stop IE from automatically downloading Jinitiator? I would like it to display the download page, the way does for mozilla/netscape.
thanks in advance,
Mark

Downloading it thru IE is not going to get you the correct version of Flash. IE uses a different version than other browsers use. Try this:
1.Download the Flash setup file from here:
[http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version].
Save it to your Desktop.
2. Close Firefox using File > Exit
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed,
{XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
* On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen).
See this:
Hi there mba,
Check out this thread, here a post from dansmith details the following steps:
"The issue is caused when Windows creates the printer profile in the control panel that it doesn't correctly create it with the drivers.
We're not going to completely uninstall all the HP software, instead we're going to remove the corrupt Windows printer profile and reinstall it. Total time for this on an average computer is about 5-10 minutes to completely repair (including reboot).
1) Navigate to Start Menu > Devices and Printers or Start Menu > Control Panel > Printers
2) Select each printer profile for the printer with an issue, then select remove device/printer.
3) Reboot
4) Navigate to Start Menu > All Programs > HP > insert model # here > Add Printer (or Setup Wizard)
5) Follow the setup prompts to reinstall the printer profile and it recreates the Windows printer.
6) Run the HP Update Tool from Start Menu > All Programs > HP if your printer installs it, rebooting afterwards if necessary.
7) Test by printing google.com (uses very little ink when the test page comes out)."
Try his steps out and let us know if it helps. '
Best of Luck!

• Is it possible to download Microsoft Internet Explorer to my MacBook Air?

I have several different sites that I have to use for my job. However, one of the sites is not supported by Mac, Safari or Firefox. It is only supported by Internet Explorer. Can I download Microsoft Internet Explorer to my MacBook Air? And, if so, how do I do that?

There is another much more simple option than what JasonFear is offering.
First in Safari open Preferences - Advanced and click Show Develop Menu in Menu Bar. The click the Develop menu - User Agent - and choose the version of Internet Explorer you want. This will allow Safari to open IE developed websites.
Great suggestion, rkaufman. I forgot all about that option. I'll be curious to see if that works for the OP my experiences with that "simulation mode" haven't been very successful.

• How do I prevent automatic downloading of .pdf files?

Hi:
I've noticed previous queries (from 2008 and 2009) asking how to prevent Safari or perhaps Adobe Reader from automatically downloading .pdf files when they open them.
I haven't had this problem recently until today. Previously, I would click a link and the .pdf file would open in a separate window. If I wanted to download the file I would have to select the download icon from the pop-up icons at the bottom of the page.
Today when I click a link to a .pdf file, the file automatically downloads to my Download folder. Adobe Reader is opening the file. In its Internet Preferences, I deselected "Display PDF in browser using. . ." and "Allow speculative downloading. . ." to no effect.
How can I get automatic downloading to stop?
I also selected a .pdf file, pressed Command-I, and in the Open With section of the pane, tried changing from Adobe Reader to Preview and then Safari to get the automatic downloading to stop, but neither choice produced the desired effect.

pjmetz: You say "tried changing from Adobe Reader to Preview and then Safari to get the automatic downloading to stop, but neither choice produced the desired effect." What effect did these changes produce? I am sure they didn't leave things as they were, did they? If they did, and Adobe Reader is strong-arming its way to causing all PDF files to download, try removing Reader and give it a test with no Reader-assist. Oh, I'm not trying to get you to give up on Reader. You can copy Reader to an ext. HDD for safe-keeping, and then trash it from the internal HDD, and empty the trash. Then test Safari. If Safari works correctly without Reader, get your answer from Adobe.com
maxintaft: PDF files cannot be editied easily even on your HDD, mush less in a browser window. Whatever it is you are typing in (or have been typing in previously), it is not a PDF file, so your issue needs a new question, or contact the school site webmaster for help.

• Flash download/close Internet Explorer Windows

Can't download Flash. Error message indicates to close all Internet Explorer windows and I have. Any suggestions?

Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by right clicking the following link and selecting "Save target as".
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Save the file to your downloads folder - DO NOT run anything yet.
Reboot your system.
BEFORE opening anything else, run the installer from your downloads folder.

• PDF-Download über Internet Explorer 8

Hallo zusammen,

• How to prevent automatic download and install of Reader 8.1.2

Hi-
I have Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and I need to keep it as my default Adobe reader program and plug-in for some applications that I use.
Over the last week, Adobe reader 8.1.2 downloads automatically and installs itself in my business laptop (Win XP SP2) and replaces my 7.0.9 version.
Each time I uninstall the 8.1.2 and reinstall the 7.0.9. I ensure the option of automatic download and install is disabled in 7.0.9.
But it still happens I have for the xth time today the new 8.1.2 in my laptop.
Anybody knows what is going on ? And how can I solve this issue to keep my 7.0.9 version ?
Thanks.

That's *not* a good thing to hear.
After the download finishes, do NOT press the Install Now button. Try the following to remove the download from the device. Here's the procedure I came up with last time this happened with iOS 7...It may or may not work.
Re: Apple Forced iOS7 update on my iPad2 !
Afterwards if you succeed, block Apple's update server using the following method so it wont get pushed to the device again:
In your router's settings, set up a block (using Access Restrictions or similar in the router's web interface) to mesu.apple.com. This will prevent the devices from "phoning home" to Apple, checking for the update and getting the download pushed to it again.

Where are you going have you tried the page

That is an Internet Explorer problem and so not easy to help you with. Could you use anther machine that does work to download the installer from that page, transfer it to removable media and use that to intall Fifefox on your problem computer.

• Cannot download firefox. internet explorer down loads to 99% then stops!

I ran firefox for several years with no trouble. I had a script problem and was told i should remove and reload firefox 6. which i did. I then used inteernet explorer to go to firefox download site and hit download, it proceeded to 99% downloaded and stopped, box said IE it stopped so as not to harm my computer. Thats it!! I've tried several sites to download but all same results.

I see you have just updated your original question, it is better to reply to an answer rather than update the original question, it makes it easier to see the updates.
Since the problem is with IE, you would be better off asking in a forum that specializes in Microsoft products. You can try asking in the Internet Explorer forum at [http://eileenslounge.com/ Eileen's Lounge].

• No more pictures in Outlook since automatic upgrade to Internet Explorer 11

starting point - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, I.E 11, Office 2007, on an Intel I7-3770 platform
Hey folks,
About a month ago I noticed that numerous emails were getting red X's in them. After ignoring it for a few weeks, because I'm busy taking classes, I decided to try to fix it. At that point I was using Outlook 2007 and Internet Explorer 11 (although I hadn't
realized I was using I.E. 11. I thought it was still I.E. 10)
I found the article "Red X's in Email Messages" by Slipstick Systems and tried all their suggestions (deleting temporary files, making sure you aren't out of file space, checking the registry for the key that causes this, etc.). After having
no success with fixing this using Office 2007 I decided MAYBE I could fix it if I upgraded to Office 2010. I installed 2010, no change. Some of the messages still had red X's and some say "The linked image cannot be displayed. Etc....". I went
through all the Slipstick suggestions again. No change.
I started reading MORE articles about the issue. I checked file permissions, no issues. Finally, I read a couple of posts about the problem really being an Internet Explorer issue. One said turn off offline mode (or whatever it's called, I don't have that
article in front of me.) A second article said something about it not being available in I.E. 11. I looked, and that's when I finally figure out I was using I.E. 11 (a disadvantage to using auto upgrade, I guess. You don't know when upgrades happen.)
Looking to see when I.E. got upgraded, I decided there was a good chance it was the I.E. upgrade that caused the issue. So, I uninstalled I.E. 11 and the problem went away. I THOUGHT the problem was solved BUT, when you uninstall I.E. 11 in Windows
7, you end up with I.E. 8, a little insecure. So I tried upgrading. NOW I.E. 9 and 10 both give me the same problem, 2 flavors of red X's, just like I started with.
The last thing I tried was creating a new Outlook profile, still no dice. I'm too nervous to use I.E. 8 but I am NOT clicking on every link in an email to see what the picture is supposed to be.
Any suggestions aside from the Slipstick article? Any hints would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi,
First please run Outlook in Safe Mode:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
We may also try to change the Location of Temporary InternetExplorer Files in Internet Explorer to test the result (the steps below are for IE 10):
Internet Explorer -> Internet options -> General
tab -> Under Browsing history, click on Settings
button -> Temporary Internet Files tab -> Under Current location, click on
Move folder button -> Choose the new location, click
OK.
Regards.
