JInitiator Startup Performance

We're having major problems with performance on the rollout of web-deployed
application, thought to be due to performance problems with the loading of
JInitiator (using version 1.3.1.18).
It's happening on both our windows 2000 and xp machines. After a cold restart
on a PC it could take up to 50 seconds to load webforms, when connected to a
100Mb/s network.
The second time web SSIS is loaded the system takes 9 seconds to load.
This problem is consistent every time webforms is started after a cold restart
and I'm aware other teams using different versions of JInitiator are having the
same problem.
Although the performance problem is bearable at our central site we have many
users who dial in to the application server, and many more users connecting via
slow ISDN links and in some cases it takes them over 6 minutes to load web
forms application, which is really unacceptable for our users. The second time
it is loaded it takes 20 seconds.
Any ideas on the cause and how it can be fixed would really be appreciated.
We've checked the logs on both the java console on loading JInitiator, and on
the web server and the jar files are being used from the cache, so this isn't
the problem.

"Cold Restart" - restart of the client PC (shut down & reboot). The application server is left running the whole time.
I have checked the access log on the web server as well as the Java console and the JAR files are not being re-downloaded, this was my initial thought as well.
The delay seems to be consistently in the startup of JInitiator, even before the JAR file /forms60java/f60all_jinit.jar is loaded.
I have several IDX files (eg: f60all_jinit.jar-683bf89b-321de17c*.idx - 163Kb) in my Oracle Jar Cache that seem to be download everytime webforms is loaded (based on the modified timestamp). There is 1 IDX file in the Oracle Jar Cache for every JAR file downloaded.
Any ideas on what these file are and why there are being downloaded as this may be a factor that affects performance?

  • Jinitiator startup

What is the very first image that attempts to display ahead of
the splash and the background during a jinitiator startup to a
Dev6 web form. Mine shows a full screen canvas with a little
gif? box in the top left that indicates that the image can not
be displayed for some reason. Can some one tell me what this is
and how to correct it. I assume that it is not the splash or the
background gif as I have been able access them as needed.
One more question, is there a full listing of all the
    <PARAM NAME="
type inputs for the html document that starts the fmx file on
the web. It has places to list the splash and background images,
is there one that relates to the first image that I asked about
    above.

Thank you for your reply Robin.
I think the first flash to light grey would appear to be the Java applet. The second switch to dark grey I think may be under the control of a forms components. I have observed with the Oracle look and feel that the colour is dark grey and with Generic it is white-ish (both colours being the same as the eventual menu colour).
The effect is fine with the separate frame option where we want the application to look more like client/server, but I am, in this instance, looking for a way to have a form display flat and seemlessly in a web page without windows or borders. The colour changing although cosmetic makes the form area in intranet site web page seem less seemless.
Incidently I have observed the rather neat trick used in the demos of hiding the title bar behind the top of the applet area. Do you know of a way to remove the window border so the edge of a form window can blend with the web page without there being a hard line?
Is there a way of controlling this dark grey colour or are there plans to?

  • Jinitiator startup and close down colours

My aim is to run our system in the context of a customer intranet web site. The site will have a header/banner and a side panel. A click on a link will start the forms system.
When Jinitiator starts up (assuming the component is already installed), it changes colour to light grey, with the text 'loading Java applet', then changes to dark grey, displays the menu (in dark grey) and starts the form.
When the application closes down the applet shows a dark grey colour.
What I would like is to be able have a little less colour transitions and more control over the colour. Many page backgrounds are in fact white, and I would settle for the colour staying white.
Does anyone think the same or know of a solution? I would like forms to appear as seamless as possible in a web site.

Thank you for your reply Robin.

  • VERY slow startup/performance - Cocktail?

    First off, I have an iMac G5 2 Ghz w/ 512 memory, OSX 10.4.8.
I have two accounts on this because a while back, probably due to a bad font, my entire Adobe CS2 suite suddenly became unusable (interminable beach ball). I deleted the font and trashed my Adobe preference files, but I still had issues. My workaround was to just create a second account and install CS2 on there, and that worked, so good enough for me.
That was several months ago. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my problem now, which is that my Mac is taking about 30 mins (seriously) to start up, from grey apple screen to plain blue screen to login to my desktop. Once I'm in, I'll suddenly get the beachball for a solid couple minutes while doing things in applications, especially when launching Firefox. Sometimes it'll lock up completely when I try to click out of the screensaver. This has been in the last few days, both accounts.
All I can think is that maybe I've screwed something up sharing files between accounts. I mainly use my 2nd account now, hadn't logged on to the 1st in quite a while, but I finally did last week and then did some flipping back and forth copying things, and it seems like it's been since then that I've had these issues. I've also had to restart by holding the power button because it was hopelessly locked up, which I know is something you should don't.
I've done the whole Disk Utility thing, repair premissions, verify disk, and it corrects a few things but always says I'm OK. I'm wondering now if a cron script maintenance utility like Cocktail would help (I have no freaking idea what a cron script is). I've read in some forums that it can help resolve issues that sounded similar to mine, without having to go into the Terminal or whatever, which I again know nothing about.
I know this is long-winded and I'm repeating some stuff from other topics, but hey, points to whoever answers. I've downloaded Cocktail but I'm kind of scared to run it now, just mainly wondering if I should go ahead and do it, or if not, what. Thanx!
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You don't need Cocktail to run the maintenance scripts. IIRC, they'll run (at least in 10.4.8) if they hadn't run at their scheduled times when you restart. Alternatively, you can run them yourself in the Terminal.app located in /Applications/Utilities/. Launch it, type in this command followed by hitting the return key (to enter the command):
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
enter your password, carefully, since it won't show up on the screen and hit the return key. When it returns with your username$ (the terminal prompt), quit it.
BTW, you can use any combination of daily, weekly, or monthly or run them one at a time; e.g., sudo periodic daily, runs the daily task.
Whether or not that'll fix your problems, I doubt it. The first thing I'd do is boot the machine with the Apple Hardware Test disk that came with the machine and run the extended tests. Second, I'd put more RAM into that machine. Third reinstall the 10.4.8 COMBO update.
If none of those fix the problem, then reinstall the OS, using the Archive & Install option, saving user and network settings.

  • Issues with WebForm performance

    Hi,
We had migrated a new application from UAT to PROD and we encounter webform performance issues with the following actions..
After login, the first form you open it is
always slow. After this you can switch from one form to another without a
    delay.
Then once you change any data – the next time
you access a form it gets delayed.
The point to be noted is, it doesnt have any performance issues in the UAT environment and the configuration settings, essbase cache settings are all the same. We did try to move the EPM system to a new server to see if this is a hardware issue but no luck, the performance issues still exist. The consumption of the CPU/memory has been checked and it is proved that the form opening delay has nothing to do with lack of memory.
The JVM head settings is set up at 4GB which is infact higher than that of the UAT environment(2GB).
runs on Windows server2008,11.1.2.1.600 EPM serve, has planning, reporting, foundation on one server (32GB ram) and essbase on another server (32GB ram). Any help is appreciated.
Please find attached the planning logs below and there is nothing mentioned in the hyperionplanning error logs.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I already replied there but it seems no moderator is willing to approve my reply so it never shows up.
So I'll try replying in here instead:
I never thought it could be an emulator issue, I thought I had done something wrong to begin with. So I take having performance issues with tiled layer is not a common problem I suppose?
I'm using MOTODEV SDK platform, A1200 model (motorola).

  • Satellite Windows 8 laptop will no longer boot up after performing a power cycle

I have a Satellite C855-55107 laptop. It had been working fine, and one day starting this problem: When booting up, it would bring the desktop screen up, and would not let me get to the sign in screen. I went to the Troubleshooting Help here and performed a power cycle. Now, it won't even boot up. The power is working fine. What do I need to do, and what do you think caused the original problem?

Hi! bec! I don't run W8. You could have picked up a Virus ect. Hard to really tell. There will be better replies during the week. I would restore back to factory. If you were infected, that should cure that problem. You could also make a system repair disk and try to boot with it. It can be made with any computer that is running W8. If you don't have that option, I guess it's back to factory.

It usually took about 1-3 seconds to load, but since having installed the plugins it takes 40-50 seconds which is really annoying, All the plugins including the Nik ones work fine. I ahve the Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and Nik Color Efex 4. In the splash screen it takes a good 10-15 seconds for it to pass both "starting up plugins....Nik Silver Efex Pro/Color Efex Pro". I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I have 8GB RAM, AMD FX-6300 SIX CORE PROCESSOR, Nvidia GTX 750 Ti graphics card. Please help me....
    Thanks,
    Jyotinder Singh

Jyotinder:  Doc!  It hurts when I do this...
Doc:  Well, then, don't DO that!
In all seriousness, have you tried removing the plug-ins, ensuring your startup performance is restored, then adding them back one by one to see which it is that causes the problems?
While I don't know those plug-ins in particular, I don't think there's any reason they should slow Photoshop's startup down that much.  Are they listed as Photoshop CC 2014-compatible?

  • Error occured while performing nmConnect : Cannot connect to Node Manager.

    Hi There,
I am trying to connect to my node manager via WLST, however when I try to do so I get the following exception:
WLSTException: Error occured while performing nmConnect : Cannot connect to Node Manager. : Read channel closed
I have searched Google for the reason behind this exception, but I couldnt find anything that explains why I am getting it.
Could someone help me out? All I want to do is connect to the node manager and then kill one of the nodes.
I should point out that the AdminServer and the node are the same machine.

The nodemanager will not accept SSL connections, I checked the config on WL itself.
I can confirm that it is also in nodemanager.domains
I have restarted the service and also bounced the box, but this hasnt helped. I get the following when running this command:

  • Errors in Startup of weblogic

    Hello,
Please note, I could not fit the entire post in one entry...had to do it in 3
I am getting numerous errors on startup of the weblogic server. Given that I followed the instructions to a T (Quick Start Guide for Oracle® SOA Suite 11gR1 (11.1.1.5.0)) . I am on windows 7.
(and even installed and re-installed weblogic several times), and re-created the domains it is just a little frustrating that SOA doesn't work right out of the box.
Near the end of the log file it does say
SOA Platform is running and accepting requests
    However, just below it says:
    line 6:12 mismatched character '<EOF>' expecting '"'
    line 3:12 mismatched character '<EOF>' expecting '"'
And above throughout there are a huge number of warnings.
<Sep 29, 2012 7:13:16 PM EDT> <Warning> <EJB> <BEA-010001> <While deploying EJB 'B2BInstanceMessageBean', class oracle.tip.b2b.j2ee.ejb.interfaces.IB2BInstanceMessageLocalHome was loaded from the system classpath. As a result, this class cannot be reloaded while the server is running. To prevent this behavior in the future, make sure the class is not located in the server classpath.>
    <Sep 29, 2012 7:13:37 PM EDT> <Warning> <oracle.dms.collector> <BEA-000000> <Metric table "domain_oracle_oim:jdbc" has no key column. It will not be collected.
    What is going wrong?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Firewall and mysql startup sep questions

is there anyway to make mysql server start on boot up so i don't have to leave a user logged in for sql to work.
On another note, firewall is blocking ftp access when truned on how do i sort it?

Under "My Music" I have the following type of folder structure:
    Music A-D<<Artist> (around 00 artists)<<Album> (around 300 albums)<MP3 Files...(around 6000 songs)<
    Music E-I<<Artist> (around 00 artists)<<Album> (around 300 albums)<MP3 Files...(around 6000 songs)<
    Music J-R<<Artist> (around 200 artists)<<Album> (around 600 albums)<MP3 Files...(around 2000 songs)<
    Music S-Z<<Artist> (around 00 artists)<<Album> (around 300 albums)<MP3 Files...(around 6000 songs)<
    Various Artists<<Artist> (around 500 artists)<MP3 Files...(around 8000 songs)<
    Dump Folder<MP3 Files (unsorted, about 8000 files)<
I have Media Sniffer setup to monitor "My Music" and all the folders underneath it. Weird thing is that if by turning off Media Sniffer, if my startup performance lag goes away, that indicates that Media Sniffer is doing a folder check during startup. I can't imagine that I'm the only person who has their music library organized into a logical folder structure - most ripping programs today allow you to do this?by default. Heck, even media ripping services that you send your CDs to in bulk send files back this way.
Also, my media library is?static right now - I'm haven't added any files to my library in months (got a little burned out organizing the darned things). So Media Sniffer shouldn't have to exert itself in searching for new files (I assume its smart enough to check the directory size or file count for changes before "searching" through the whole directory structure - but maybe that assumption is wrong?)

  • Oracle Forms Performance very slow on the internet

    Hi ,
We have developed a form application with forms Developer 10g and deployed it on a ORACLE 10g AS. If the user runs our application over intranet there is no any network problem or not any performance decrease occurs. However if we deploy our application over WAN or internet, the startup time of the forms become Very Slow.
What we can use to make it faster , is there any other tools we have to learn like APEX or JDeveloper , what is the best solution , should we forget the Developer for ever and starting with other tools with fast performance on the internet , if so , what we have to learn , please help us , its common problem .
    any help please ,

    Interesting thread....
You asked whether "Forms" is the right product for the job. Well, the answer to that question will depend entirely on exactly what functionality you need and your skill-set. One advantage of using Forms over other Oracle products is that, in my opinion, Forms allows you to create simple or complex applications very quickly, with limited development experience. The downside to using Forms however, is that it does use a fairly thick client making startup slower than other applications. Generally, Forms is not very well suited for Internet deployments although it can and has been done. If your goal is to use a product which is easy to work with and is appropriate for Internet deployment, you may want to consider Apex. The downside to Apex is that unlike Forms, Apex generates what I like to call static html pages. Meaning once a page is displayed for the end-user, the data on it remains the same until the user forces interaction with the server again, but in this case the entire page would be refreshed in order to realize the changes. In the case of Forms, any content displayed to the end-user can be change without completely refreshing their view. I like to refer to Forms as a living application because unlike Apex, it can easily respond to most user inputs and/or server side changes almost in real-time. If you want this "live" experience, Forms might be the way to go, although at the cost of some startup performance. Alternatively, Oracle ADF can also give you a similar live-like experience. However, ADF will require a broader skill-set (pl/sql, java, html, etc), whereas with Forms you could get away with only knowing pl/sql although java knowledge would be helpful.
The views expressed in this thread are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Oracle.

  • Weblogic 7.0 startup time is very bad

We just upgraded to weblogic 7.0, jdk1.3.1_03 and are on solaris 8. We find that
the startup time is horribly slow and very pathetic. Talked to support, not much
of help there except that they accepted the fact. Removed UDDI, webservices.jar.
Any startup performance improvements from anyone out here? The startup time sucks
a lot and the support wants us to wait till SP1 which would eat away a lot of
developer time waiting for the server to start. Does anyone else have a problem
regarding the same? In 5.1 the whole application used to start up like in 2 minutes,
now we see that it takes about 8-10 minutes which is totally unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated as this is wasting a lot of our time out here. Is
migrating to weblogic 7.0 worth it given its performance compared to 5.1?
    Shiva.

I have one domain running. In development mode we have only one server.
The development server without anything deployed in it alone takes more
than 2 minutes to startup. Below is the complete dump of the server when
there is nothing deployed in it.
    Time stamp here is 10:39:29.

We just upgraded to weblogic 7.0, jdk1.3.1_03 and are on solaris 8. We
    find that
the startup time is horribly slow and very pathetic. Talked to support,
    not much
of help there except that they accepted the fact. Removed UDDI, webservices.jar.
Any startup performance improvements from anyone out here? The startup
    time sucks
a lot and the support wants us to wait till SP1 which would eat away
    a lot of
developer time waiting for the server to start. Does anyone else have
    a problem
regarding the same? In 5.1 the whole application used to start up like
    in 2 minutes,
now we see that it takes about 8-10 minutes which is totally unacceptable.
Any help would be appreciated as this is wasting a lot of our time out
    here. Is
migrating to weblogic 7.0 worth it given its performance compared to
    5.1?

I think you should consider increasing heap size and check whether you still face the OOM. In addition to that you can consider implementing GC logging using: -verbose:gc -XX:PrintGCTimeStamps and other parameters..
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/gc-tuning-6-140523.html
You can consider implementing -XX:HeapDumpOnOutOfMemory or capture heap dump using jmap etc and check out the contents in the heap using MAT to understand the possible suspects.
    https://blogs.oracle.com/alanb/entry/heap_dumps_are_back_with
The above are the basic stuff that needs to be looked into to understand the cause of this issue.
    Cheers!!

  • Slow(er) startup when using captive runtime on windows

I  just converted two AIR apps from native exe installers (requiring AIR installed) to Captive Runtime relases (just a folder structure).
One difference i see is that my applications now load a little slower (because of the packaged instead of installed runtime?).
When using flex 4 sdk the white and centered flex4-loadbar now appears for a few seconds before the splash screen of the app. appears. The same happens when using flex 3 sdk (in compatibility mode) but instead the "initializing" text appears.
Is this slowdown a known effect of the captive runtime packaging?

I responded to your other thread in the bugs forum but wanted to also respond here.
I'm not aware of any slower performance implications when using the captive runtime but I'm going to investigate further.  In the meantime, would you mind opening a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com regarding the startup performance hit?  It would be great if you could also provide us with a sample application that illustrates the slower startup time.  If you'd like to keep it private, please email me directly at [email protected]
    Thanks,
    Chris
