Jinitiator startup

What is the very first image that attempts to display ahead of
the splash and the background during a jinitiator startup to a
Dev6 web form. Mine shows a full screen canvas with a little
gif? box in the top left that indicates that the image can not
be displayed for some reason. Can some one tell me what this is
and how to correct it. I assume that it is not the splash or the
background gif as I have been able access them as needed.
One more question, is there a full listing of all the
<PARAM NAME="
type inputs for the html document that starts the fmx file on
the web. It has places to list the splash and background images,
is there one that relates to the first image that I asked about
above.

Thank you for your reply Robin.
I think the first flash to light grey would appear to be the Java applet. The second switch to dark grey I think may be under the control of a forms components. I have observed with the Oracle look and feel that the colour is dark grey and with Generic it is white-ish (both colours being the same as the eventual menu colour).
The effect is fine with the separate frame option where we want the application to look more like client/server, but I am, in this instance, looking for a way to have a form display flat and seemlessly in a web page without windows or borders. The colour changing although cosmetic makes the form area in intranet site web page seem less seemless.
Incidently I have observed the rather neat trick used in the demos of hiding the title bar behind the top of the applet area. Do you know of a way to remove the window border so the edge of a form window can blend with the web page without there being a hard line?
Is there a way of controlling this dark grey colour or are there plans to?

  • JInitiator Startup Performance

We're having major problems with performance on the rollout of web-deployed
application, thought to be due to performance problems with the loading of
    JInitiator (using version 1.3.1.18).
It's happening on both our windows 2000 and xp machines. After a cold restart
on a PC it could take up to 50 seconds to load webforms, when connected to a
    100Mb/s network.
The second time web SSIS is loaded the system takes 9 seconds to load.
This problem is consistent every time webforms is started after a cold restart
and I'm aware other teams using different versions of JInitiator are having the
    same problem.
Although the performance problem is bearable at our central site we have many
users who dial in to the application server, and many more users connecting via
slow ISDN links and in some cases it takes them over 6 minutes to load web
forms application, which is really unacceptable for our users. The second time
it is loaded it takes 20 seconds.
Any ideas on the cause and how it can be fixed would really be appreciated.
We've checked the logs on both the java console on loading JInitiator, and on
the web server and the jar files are being used from the cache, so this isn't
    the problem.

"Cold Restart" - restart of the client PC (shut down & reboot). The application server is left running the whole time.
I have checked the access log on the web server as well as the Java console and the JAR files are not being re-downloaded, this was my initial thought as well.
The delay seems to be consistently in the startup of JInitiator, even before the JAR file /forms60java/f60all_jinit.jar is loaded.
I have several IDX files (eg: f60all_jinit.jar-683bf89b-321de17c*.idx - 163Kb) in my Oracle Jar Cache that seem to be download everytime webforms is loaded (based on the modified timestamp). There is 1 IDX file in the Oracle Jar Cache for every JAR file downloaded.
Any ideas on what these file are and why there are being downloaded as this may be a factor that affects performance?

  • Jinitiator startup and close down colours

My aim is to run our system in the context of a customer intranet web site. The site will have a header/banner and a side panel. A click on a link will start the forms system.
When Jinitiator starts up (assuming the component is already installed), it changes colour to light grey, with the text 'loading Java applet', then changes to dark grey, displays the menu (in dark grey) and starts the form.
When the application closes down the applet shows a dark grey colour.
What I would like is to be able have a little less colour transitions and more control over the colour. Many page backgrounds are in fact white, and I would settle for the colour staying white.
Does anyone think the same or know of a solution? I would like forms to appear as seamless as possible in a web site.

Thank you for your reply Robin.

  • 9i forms demo problem with jinitiator 1.3.1.9

I'm trying to install the 9i forms demo from http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/products/forms/index9i.html
The install says it uses jinitiator 1.3.1.9. If you want to use another version, edit the forms90demo.cfg file. We have 1.3.1.17 and I edited the cfg file, but none of the demos will come up. I get "The page cannot be displayed" error. Our port is 8889 and the launchdemo90.html file is looking for 8888. I changed it to 8889 in the IE address field but the pages still won't come up.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

  • FRM-92101- There is a failure in the form server during startup.

    Hi,
I'm deploying a forms 10g application . I'm using Oracle Application Server Forms and Reports Services 10.1.2.0.2 under Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, along with an Oracle 10g Database on another server. Every time I try testing the form services using http://10.0.4.114:7778/forms/frmservlet it brings out the errorFRM-92101- There is a failure in the form server during startup. This could happen due to invalid configuration. Please look into the web server log file for detail
Right now, I'm a bit lost. Can anyone please tell me if there is some parameter I have to set, or something I should do to make it work?
    Thanks a lot

    Fabian,
I did not make changes to those files. The forms services are working on another server with Red hat Rel 4 and 3 . What I did is to configure a new server with Red Hat Rel 5 , took the backup of all the forms binaries and the HOME and restore on the new server. I did the same thing for a server running rel 4 and it has no issue:
The content of the files are as below:
    DEFAULT.ENV*
    # $Id: default.env 26-apr-2005.16:59:08 sujain Exp $
    # default.env - default Forms environment file, Solaris version
    # This file is used to set the Forms runtime environment parameters.
    # If a parameter is not defined here, the value used will be that defined
    # in the environment in which the servlet engine (OC4J or JServ) was started.
    # NOTES

    # Explanations:
    # - Reports needs the path for libjava.so
    # (.../jre/lib/sparc)
    # - Forms needs two paths to the jre, for libjvm.so and libhpi.so
    # - In JDK 1.4.1 the location of libjvm.so is lib/sparc (there is no
    # classic directory) so we do not include the .../classic directory
    # below. There are other versions of libjvm.so (in directories server,
    # client and hotspot) but we will use the version in lib/sparc for now.

    # The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,
    # which cannot be overridden in the URL, and User Parameters, which can.
    # Parameters which are not marked as System parameters are User parameters.
    # SYSTEM PARAMETERS
    # These have fixed names and give information required by the Forms
    # Servlet in order to function. They cannot be specified in the URL query
    # string. But they can be overridden in a named configuration (see below).
    # Some parameters specify file names: if the full path is not given,
    # they are assumed to be in the same directory as this file. If a path
    # is given, then it should be a physical path, not a URL.
    # USER PARAMETERS
    # These match variables (e.g. %form%) in the baseHTML file. Their values
    # may be overridden by specifying them in the URL query string
    # (e.g. "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?form=myform&width=700")
    # or by overriding them in a specific, named configuration (see below)

  • XP SP3 & JInitiator 1.3.22

    Hi,
One of our customers installed XP SP3 on the client and that resulted in JInitiator crasching on startup, taking IE with it. Reinstalling JInitiator didn't help. I got the picture that the combo isn't certified but are there any experiences in this area?

This version (1.3.1.22) is obsolete and is over three years old. I would recommend upgrading to a newer version. The latest public release is 1.3.1.29 and it is supported for use with all currently supported Forms versions.
You can download this version from Metalink using Patch ID 6350285
If you still have a problem after installing the latest version, there is likely a conflict with other JRE versions in use. Be sure you are not using browser add-ons like Google, AOL, Yahoo toolbars as many of these use an internal JRE which has been known to conflict with Jinitiator.
The other alternative is to use a Sun JRE/JPI. Be sure to review the Forms Client Statement of Direction for the version you are using in order to ensure that you are using a Sun release that has been certified and/or supported.

  • JInitiator shortcomings

    Hello,
Just want to point out some things, maybe there are some solutions for them.
Right now we are using MS JVM for running forms on IE, because it is much simpler to maintain, and seems to run better on lower-end machines (startup time & memory usage). But since it is not supported by MS, and some Oracle addons like webutil require JInitiator, we will be forced to switch to it. There are 2 things that bother us right now (besides performance): installation on client machine and adding certificates.
Installation is a standard wizard-type, but I think there should be an option to perfom silent one, without any involvement from end-user. Certificates are needed when using forms over https, and you have to supply file, which needs to be copied to specific directory etc. And first time you run form it will fail because initiator installed succesfully but you didn't have time to put the certificate where it is required. For business users I think this step altogether with installation is way too much. These 2 procedures should be transparent to them, otherwise some support from IT specialist is required.
Think what would happen when you have some applications used every day by dozens (hundreds ?) of people not very skilled in IT, and yesterday you just applied latest patchset, which of course changed Jinit. version...
Such nightmares keeps us right now from using it :)
So - this is mostly question for Oracle - is there anything that can be done to solve this issues ?

    Regarding mentioned note:
What if we don't have "any professional installation tool" ? Winzip SE is also a comm. program which needs to be bought.
What if the user choosed non-standard installation path for Jinitiator ? How do we know where to put the certificate ?
Note says:"Oracle's future direction is to adopt Sun's Java Plug-in as soon as it becomes as capable as JInitiator. Once that is done, we can switch over to the JRE plug-in the packaging is out of our hands. "
Last revision date is 28-OCT-2002 - over a year ago.
How long do you plan waiting for Sun's Java plugin to be capable enough without solving that? Or maybe this policy has changed from that time for developing Jinitiator ?
I think this problem needs to be better handled than that, for a high $ cost product as IAS is.
Leaving customers with arguable workaround and no choice (Jinit.) is not good...
Also could you point me to some information about silent install method ? Sorry, but finding anything usable on Metalink is not an easy thing, so any pointers would be helpful.
    Thank you,
    Peter

  • Unable to capture startup and shutdown event of Photoshop in automation Plugin.

    Hi,
I am creating an automation plugin and I want to register some events. I have seen listener plugin sample to register event in startup and unregister event in shutdown. I have used same code in my plugin but I am unable to capture the startup nad shutdown event of Photoshop. On clicking the menu item of my plugin the calls come inside the AutoPluginMain but during the startup or shutdown of plugin, the calls does not come inside the AutoPluginMain.
I am unable to detect the cause of the problem. Can someone please giude me??
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Tom,
    Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, I am working on Windows. As you suggested, I compiled .rc file but the compile option for .r file was disabled. After compiling the .rc file, I again rebuild the complete project and tested my build. But still I was not able to achive the desired result.
Any other thing that I need to do to make it work?
    Thanks

Keep in mind that to run a form from the forms builder (including test form) you must start the OC4J instance.

Any help would be nice the only way i got it fixed was restarting .. and it went back to normal.. but its another bug inside 10.6.6

Well, if it is working now...
You could check to see what the version of the Finder is as it is not reported in the crash log. The application is here:
/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder; the version should be 10.6.7. If you suspect a problem caused by updating to 10.6.6, then I suggest downloading and installing the Combo update.

  • Any Mozilla product I install crashes at startup. The first window I see when I open a Mozilla product is the crash reporter. I have tried every possible solution but cannot open anything. It started with firefox. Can anyone please help?

Hi there, as the question says, I cannot open any Mozilla product. I have tried to install firefox 3.6, older versions of Firefox, Firefox 4.0, Sea Monkey, Thunder Bird and Sun Bird. I have the same problem everytime. I open any of these programs and the first and the only window that appears is the crash reporter. I've tried opening it in Safe Mode and the same occurs. I have tried entirely uninstalling the products incuding the registry keys but no help. I shall post the detailed error reports, if they help solving this issue. Can you kindly look into this and find a solution as I use all of these Mozilla products and my life has been a hell since they've ben down.

    Did you find a solution?
Same problem over here as well, FF 7 is ok but FF8 / FF9 and Thunderbird 8 / 9 crash on startup.
They both work if I start them in safe mode with everything enabled.

  • I installed the latest version of Firefox last night. It worked 3-4 times flawlessly. Now, it crashes at startup and gives me a box with crash detail report. How can I fix this?

I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
    How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:

Please help! I cant stand iE anymore and I'm so lost without Firefox!

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.
