Jinitiator Vs JRE

Dear All,
While invoking Oracle forms and reports in Jinitiator for the first time, Jini software will be automatically dowloading the client PC. But, when the forms and reports are invoked from JRE, the IE is not downloading the JRE software in the client PC, we have to manually install in the client PC.
Note: the security settings in IE are same in both the case.
Regards,
Anand.

  • Jinitiator and JRE 6

    Hi there,
    I do have 2 java based application Finacle and MIS respectively which use to run JRE and Jinitiator. The version of JRE is 6 standard and Jinitiator is 1.3.1.17. My problem is when i use to open Finacle and MIS in same IE 7 windows tab it use to crash with error C++ run time error. But when i open Finacle in 1 IE 7 window and MIS in different IE 7 window it use to work.
    I searched in the forum and found that Jinitiator is obsolete so should update to JRE 7. I already did that too but still when i browse MIS it automatically used to install Jinitiator 1.3.1.17
    My oracle version is 9i for MIS application. Could any one please help me regarding the issue.

    Hi,
    Can you guy suggest me which possible files should I look into to understand why there is difference between them?
    -->Formsweb.cfg.
    However when I open development environment then forms are launched using Java 1.6.0_24 and there is java icon in task bar

  • JInitiator with JRE 1.6

    Hi,
    It its possible to run JInitiator 1.3.1.28 using JRE 1.6 instead of the JRE 1.3.1.28 version? If so, how?
    Thanks for the help,
    Francisco

    Just configure your server to use the Java Plugin instead. Wilfred wrote some good articles on it. http://www.oratransplant.nl/2005/05/24/settings-for-dynamic-versioning-with-sun-jpi-and-oracle-forms/
    JInitiator is a deprecated product, which can't be recommended. Oracle now recommends using the latest Java plug-in, 1.6.0_16 or newer. See http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/htdocs/10gR2/clientsod_forms10gR2.html.
    Hope this helps,

  • Windows Vista - "JInitiator" Vs "Sun JRE"

    Hi folks
    we are using Oracle 10g AS. For the client end, we were using Oracle JInitiator 1.3.1.22 without any issues for the client OS Windows 2000, XP.
    When the same application was accessed from Vista with JInitiator 1.3.1.22 - IE 7 got closed automatically. Then problem was overcomed when IE 7 replaced with Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.1 or higher. But, when we installed Java standard edition J2SE JRE for running other Java based applications, then this application is not working with firefox because of the JRE installed.
    Latercase, we have configured the Oracle 10g AS for running the application with J2SE JRE at client system. Then it was possible that other Java applications as well as our application can be accessed with J2SE JRE with IE 7 in client system (vista OS), for few weeks only. Now, in the same system, when we access the application with J2SE JRE, it takes 3 mins open a form from the main screen.
    But if we remove J2SE JRE and install JInitiator 1.3.1.22 and connect the application with Mozilla Firefox, the application works fine and opens the screen in 3-5 secs.
    Summary:
    1) Is it possible to use both JInitiator & J2SE JRE together in Vista for running Java based applications & Oracle 10g Applications?
    2) Why is the difference, when the same application opened with JInitiator takes 3-5 secs to open a form, but J2SE JRE takes 3 mins for the same action?
    Please help.

    Hi Scott,
    If you dont want to install jinitiator or JRE manually and they are not getting downloaded on cleint machine ,what you can dop is If your clients are on domain network then you can deploy JRE in domain group policy and JRE will get installed automatically(through group policy) when the Client machines reboots.

  • Why READ_IMAGE_FILE is not working in Linux Appln Server?

    Hello!
    I have a form with a new_form_instance Trigger I wrote the read_image_file trigger to read a GIF file in an image item.It works fine on windows XP(development machine).I copied the GIF file to the same location where my fmx files are there in Linux application server.I copied and compilied my fmb file in linux application server.No compilation error is there.But when I run form from Linux the form hangs and my read_image_file command is at new form instance Trigger.I have checked the case sensitivity of the file and the permission etc in Linux.In windows Development machine the form runs successfully.What could be the problem.Please help.......
    Jayashree

    Hi
    Incase if you find any server related error like "FRM-92101" happening on READ_IMAGE_FILE functionality, try to change the image item format from TIFF to BMP/JFIF.
    Otherwise if you changed any Jinitiator or JRE Version, sign again for all the JAR Files and restart your server.

  • Maximize/Minimize MDI Child window

    Dear Members :
    I am on Oracle forms 10.1.2 and irrespective of whether value of separateFrame=true/false, when I try to maximize mdi-sheet window (within application frame), the whole thing flickers and after some time browser crashes. Does "maximize allowed" property not work for child windows in MDI application ?
    Behavior of minimize is also peculiar, as the the whole mdi application frame develops a vertical scroll, when I again try to resize the minimized mdi-sheet window, as it shows up with it's original size down from it's lower position; instead of getting back to where it originally appeared.
    I tried above both using JInitiator and JRE - but same behavior.
    Could anyone please suggest ?
    Thanks in advance.

    ...If you want to make your voice heard to the VC++/MFC developer support people via Connect, that is a reasonable option.  If others vote the "me too" there, your suggestions might gather enough weight for some future action.
    <
    Robert, if you do post a bug report on Connect please post a link to
    your bug report back here so we can find it.
    I guess the bug report is really that Windows 8 doesn't draw MDI child
    windows in a consistent style to the top level frame window (I see the
    same thing using Forte Agent, so I don't think it's an MFC issue).
    For instance, if you are asking that MFC include some new visual manager(s) to support the newer Windows 8 appearance,
    Please, no more application specific "visual managers". Don't make it
    easy to make an inconsistent mess of UIs.
    I've just been saddled with a WPF application that's a right mess in
    that respect - some parts change correctly when the user changes the
    Windows scheme to high-contrast, while other parts use AvalonDock with
    its own theme idea of what the colors should be.

  • CONNECTING ORACLE 9I OR 10G DATABASE WITH ORACLE 10G FORMS AND REPORTS

    pls tell how to connect oracle 9i or 10g database with oracle developer suite 10g . though the forms are getting connected but not running with error as
    FRM-10142 the HTTP listner is not running on pls start the listner or check your runtime preferences.
    now pls tell how to start listner and how to chage runtime preferences.
    though i have worked with oracle 9i and forms 6i where we used to copy the tnsnames.ora from network/admin of oracle to forms 6i tnsnames.ora.
    thank you, you may be thinking such a long question.....

    sir
    By server i mean the computer where oc4j and backend database are running is one one of the client pc not a dedicated server..., these database and 10g dev suite are installed in one of the client machine,
    all the clients are using same internet explorer as browser.
    no message is being displyed on some of the client machine where these forms are not being uploaded on browser instead it displays as done in status bar without actually showing anything at all...
    sir so far as jinitiator or JRE is concered i have seen on the client machine (where my forms are running on internet explorer) a pop up is displyed telling one activex control is required to run this program and click to install it..
    after clicking it download jinitiator from server and after installing jinitiator my forms are loaded and start functioning...
    what i feel is as i said this machine where oc4j and database is running is one of the client machine so some other clients do not have acess to this machine, so this might be the reason why those clints are not able to run the said forms on the internet explorer.... can it be so... kindly tell..
    thank you for your patience for reading the question

  • New features I like Oracle to include in Oracle Forms

    I believe Oracle Form is the best tool to develop Database Application in Oracle Database. The weakness I see in Oracle Forms 10g may be its deployment as Java Applet. Java Applets are to be downloaded in the client browser, that's why it's not lightweight as PHP/ ASP/JSP scripting technology. So as a true web application it is not really handy.
    Oracle provides JDeveloper/ Apex to accomplish that. But JDeveloper is very complicated to understand and Apex is rigid and you have little freedom on your user interface design, you cannot design a page as freely as you do in Adobe Dreamweaver for PHP. We as Form developer want oracle to develop a new development tool with following features:
    1. Language will be PL/SQL.
    2. There will be simple drag and drop interface design.
    3. It will generate HTML/JSP page so that it can be light weight.
    4. Provide a wide range of packages to accomplish javascripts/ajax while using PL/SQL language. Developer will just know what to do and by what technology javascripts/ajax, and accordingly invoke packages from withing PL/SQL editors.
    5. Will have good old simple look in Form Development (JDeveloper is so complex and Apex is so shy in revealing it's features) while having same even better inner strength of developments.
    6. Will require no client side tool like jinitiator or jre
    7. Better and easy or even no use of web_util package but still accomplish file/image/spreadsheet access

  • Has Oracle published the source for frmwebutil.jar?  (Duncan?)

    After working with webutil for quite some time now, I recently discovered a problem. Before I give details, I must emphasize that I am running using the Java Plug-In (JRE 1.5.0_11) under IE 6.0, which is certified at level 3 (passes Forms functional tests) according to Oracle's Client Platform Statement of Direction. I have not tested this under JInitiator with JRE 1.3, as I have written JavaBeans that require JRE1.4 or better.
    There appears to be some bad interaction between CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME( ) and CLIENT_OLE2.CREATE_OBJ( ). Specifically, the following scenario results in JACOB error ComFailException: unable to co-create object...
    1. Call CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME( ), then close
    2. Launch Excel using CLIENT_OLE2.CREATE_OBJ( ), close and dispose
    3. Again, call CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME( ), then close
    4. Again, launch Excel using CLIENT_OLE2.CREATE_OBJ( )
    Excel should launch correctly in step 2 -- step 4 raises ComFailException.
    After a bit of research, I have concluded that Swing's (CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME uses javax.swing.JFileChooser) threading model does not coexist happily with JACOB, at least not as it is being used in WebUtil 1.0.6.
    I have implemented an ugly hack that entails modifying JACOB's Dispatch class by changing one of its constructors:
      public Dispatch(String progid) {
        createInstance(progid);
      }to
      public Dispatch(String progid) {
        ComThread.InitMTA();
        createInstance(progid);
      }I realize that my fix imposes a threading model that may not be correct under all circumstances, and I have no idea what else it might break in WebUtil, but it fixes my immediate problem. A proper fix would be implemented in Oracle's Java classes (those that support CLIENT_OLE2) -- is the source for these available?
    If not, when will Oracle themselves update these classes? Jacob 1.8 is butt-ugly, from a developer's perspective, compared even to 1.9.1 (Jacob is now at 1.13-M2) -- particularly for lacking convenience methods like invokeGetComponent( ) and better handling of the Variant type.
    Any input is welcome and appreciated.

    Hi Duncan,
    Thanks for such a speedy reply, and my apologies for "calling you out" -- I understand that responding to everyone who mentions your name would quickly prove cumbersome.
    I've yet to open a TAR, because I wanted to first make sure that the forums couldn't offer a quicker response, hopefully explaining something simple that I'd been overlooking. A potentially important distinction, regarding the scenario I'm describing, is that I'm trying to launch an application, create a document, populate it and hand it off to the user, rather than solely automate it and close upon finishing. In this circumstance, it's unclear to me, whether I should be calling CLIENT_OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ(myApp), as doing so with Jacob 1.8 closes the entire app, rather than leaving this up to the user. This does not appear to be the case, when using Jacob 1.9, but I suspect that this is only because with v1.9 Dispatch.release( ) becomes private, and safeRelease( ) becomes the public method, which I suspect breaks CLIENT_OLE2.RELEASE_OBJ( ) altogether.
    Given that this evidently appears TAR-worthy to you, I'll check Metalink for duplicate issues, and if none are reported, I'll open a TAR ASAP and tack it onto this thread. Thanks again, for your quick response.
