Jitter in Voice Network

Dears;
i have attached network design and it is working but i face Delay variations on the Routers at both sites
FYI: R0 is connected to R4 through two Satellite links with delay around 600-900 ms and one link to R3 through satellite link with same delay.
same R2 is connected to R3 through two sat. links with 600-900 ms delay and one link to R4 with same delay.
also there load balancing on R0 and R2 with CEF enabled per source and destination ports.
i do not know what problem is .
can you help me to compensate that jitter effect.
Regards //

Hi,
High delay and jitter are characteristics of satellite links and cannot be eliminated.
However, you can tune the "playout-delay" to somewhat conceal the above. Please see:

  • Difference between cellular/voice network and data network?

Hey guys, so I'm trying to learn this, any help would be greatly appreciated.
What is the difference between cellular networks (I assume voice calls) and data networks (sending and recieving data, like using apps, etc.) for each of the different carriers?
I tried researching this up, but with absolutely no luck. Any help towards understanding cellular networks and the difference if any between it and data networks would be helpful! If you can point me in the right direction, it would help too!
Also, in the presence of a voice network but no data network, can data still be transmitted? Any values for speed for the major carriers?

Try "Cellular voice vs data" as a Google search.

  • PIX firewall 525 on Voice Network for 5000 CC calls

    Dear all ,
can some one suggest me will it be recommended to use PIX firewall 525 on Voice ( sip ) network for 5000 CC to 1000 CC calls in signaling mode since our server are using public IP so will i be able to use it without NAT / PAT also will there be any issue of QOS .
    Regards

    Sohail,
If your idea is to add some security between your devices the PIX will work fine (I will prefer and ASA since it can run the latest software). The quality of your voice traffic shouldn't be impacted by the PIX.

  • Implementing video conferencing in an existing voice network

I have been tasked with adding two Polycom video conferencing stations to our existing LAN.  Currently, we have Voice on VLAN 100 and Data is on VLAN 1.  (I know, I know...VLAN 1 ).  AutoQoS has been enabled on our switches.  My questions:  1) Should the two VC stations be assigned to their own VLAN?  2) Is AutoQoS still an option for me?
This site is connected to our others via VPN over broadband.  I realize I can't do end-to-end QoS using this WAN connection, but I'd like to try and push the video to the front of the line as it leaves.
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello,
Yes you can add your Jetpack to your existing WiFi network, but it is going to take some configuration to get the job done.  What you need to perform is a process called "Cascading" your routers together.  In a nutshell, two routers cannot exist on the same network unless they know how to communicate to each other.  You need to setup the routers so that one is the Primary and the other is the secondary.
    How to Cascade Routers:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Cascade-Routers
However, the catch with cascading routers when a Jetpack is involved is that a Jetpack is a wireless only device.  The USB Tethering feature of the 4620L will not be sufficient for cascading, it must be a WiFi  connection that links the Jetpack to the other router.  You may have to swap out your current home WiFi router with one that has a wireless bridging feature.  A quick example would be the Pepwave Surf Mini.
Here is a diagram of how the new home network could look:
Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.  Post your home router model for us to review if you are curious to know if it can connect directly to the Jetpack or not.

  • FCC eyes new rules to protect consumers as voice networks transition to IP, how do you feel on this?

Anyone reading this discussion board knows VOICE/DATA  together is a hot item . Even more so with the new phone releases and we know Verizon's thinking as of now. So what's your spin on this and the FCC proposed action ?

We're a good decade away from at&t or Verizon being all IP. If people think forcing at&t or Verizon to keep supporting copper will make them offer better DSL they are fooling themselves. I'm not sure how the government can decide if a company wants to get out of business that they can't.

  • Help with larger sized voice wlan.... design considerations.... tips...etc...

    Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping that you guys and gals can help me with an ongoing problem that we have at one of our sites. We're working on areas of the location due to it's size and phone load. We have an area, that I will refer to as building A, that is roughly a square that is 240' x 240'. The inside of the building has some pallets inside for storage(they allow RF to penetrate through them) and also some metal production lines. There is also a mezzanine  / elevated area in the middle that the users can walk under. It's not very large, but it would affect a phone if you walked underneath it while making a call. So, now that I have a brief description of the environment, I will tell you the equipment I'm running...
    1 x 4402 50AP Wireless Controller with 6.0.199.3 (MR3) installed.
We currently have nine AP's installed in this area, with 4 up front so that way they cover the office areas better. Most are 1231G's, but some are 1242's.
Since we do not have A radios everywhere (budgetary decision) we are running all of these phones on 2.4Ghz (Yikes! I know!)
The 7920's use LEAP and the 7921's use PEAP MS-CHAP v2 with CCKM enabled on the controller.
I also have 802.1p wired QoS enabled for the voice QoS profile and it is applied to our voice WLAN.
We have conference rooms in the front area that will need to support roughly 20-30 maximum mixed 7920 and 7921G phones in a roughly small area. (Yikes! I know!)
We also have a 2106 with mesh .54M installed, but it is for outdoor AP's and should not be affecting this area.
So, I guess my questions are....
Has anyone ever operated the 7920 and 7921G's in mixed mode?
I'm thinking about separating the 7920s on 2.4 and tell the 7921's to prefer the A band or just use A. This will require A radios / surgery, but we've dealt with different code trains, TAC configs, and even added a few more radios. I think it's time to say we need to redesign this area. It doesn't help that phones keep getting purchased either....
What rule of thumb would you guys / gals say would be appropriate for this phone count in terms of the number of AP's I should use?
Since we're dealing with two different phone models, it makes it hard to simply just read the deployment guide. I know these phones can coexist, I just think we're running into over capacity and problems with 802.11B in the mix. In the conf room right now, there are most likely signals from at least two AP's. This doesn't seem like enough bandwidth for just the 2.4 Ghz range when 20 - 30 phones are in there. Not all of them are calling, but the associations / mgmt traffic alone must be horrendous since the phones are 802.11B
We are going to do a manual survey with a 1242 since that AP will support both phone models. I think we may need to survey twice if we're going to go this route; One survey for the 7920's on 2.4Ghz with a 1242AG and one survey on 5Ghz with a 7921G. I think that will provide the info we need to get the AP's repositioned where they need to be.
What kind of power levels should I be using in an area like that? We've originally had a survey at 50mW, but since then we turned the power down to pwr lvl 3 in some spots due to the additional AP's. I've seen references of roughly 1 AP per 3000 sq. ft at pwr level 4, but that seems overkill.
Can we run mixed power levels on AP's with the phones? Or will that cause one way audio due to the transmit power diffrences in the cells?
I'm thinking that we should pick a power level, survey the -67 cell size at the power level, add more AP's so that way they are overlapped 15-20%, and then actually implement the design. I'm pretty good at getting decent channel assignments in place. I know of non-overlapping channels, RRM, etc. I also have an AirMagnet laptop with an Aironet Adapter. It is good for finding noise, interference, etc...
I understand this is practically a book, but at this point, we've been trying a LOT of different things in order to get this to work properly. I think it's finally time for me to "strongly suggest" that we do the following...
    1. Choose ONE phone model.
    2. Choose ONE AP model.
    3. Make sure to implement the 5Ghz band for all AP's so we have complete coverage.
    4. Choose ONE power level for each band. This will affect the coverage and placement of AP's. I'd imagine that we'd need to survey with A first, and then survey with b/g. Typically we can use the 1242 and get about the same cell size on both bands, but 5Ghz is a higher frequency and may not penetrate as much as 2.4 Ghz..
    5. Come up with a new coverage map based on a manual site survey with the phones mentioned above.
    6. Implement the design.
    7. Use it.
    8. Try not to have a heart attack when the system actually supports that many phones in that area...
So, please, let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions. It would be greatly appreciated. We've been slowly working out the gremlins in the phones there over the past few years. I'm more of a data wireless person myself, but I do have good luck with a low to moderate phone count (usually no more than 7 calls per AP). Once we start doing craziness like trying to get 20-30 802.11B phones to work in the same area on only one or two AP's, then things start to become a challenge, especially when we don't have the 5Ghz cells to help with the bandwidth requirements for voice....
    Thank you for your time,
    Craig

  • Network slowness for PC's connected to phones

We are having a problem with users reporting slowness when they are connecting their PC's through their phones. The phones in use are 7912's 7940's and 7960's. The network layout is two 3560G PoE switches with the data and voice network separated by VLANS. They are CSSP build phones. Here is the 7940 load:

  • Voice GW Config Question

    Hi Everyone
Yesterday I posted a question about redesigning the way our voice network looks, I'm removing 6 CUCM 4.3 boxes and I'm going to have those sites register with our Sub which is 10.5.1 in our data center across the WAN. Jaime answered my question and gave me some good insight on what to do for each site.
    1.Create DP,CSS,PT on the Pub
    2.Enable SRST on the GW
    3.Make necessary changes on GW
4.Create LRG to have the site use their local GW
I've been reading on how to get these task done and I have a question about #3, I'm looking at the config from the GW for the  test sight and the VoIP dial peer is referencing the CUCM node currently on site. Would modifying the IPV4 address to reflect the new CUCM node at the data center be the only change that I would have to make to the config?
I also want to say thanks for all the help that everyone has given me with really quick responses to my questions. I just changed jobs and I went from doing primarily MACD to now I'm actually the person who is doing the implementation. I've never done implementation before but I know if I stick with it and help from this board I'll be a super star yet.
    Eric

Correct, need to change the IP address on the DP to reflect the new one. Also, need to look at SCCP resources (conference bridge or transcoders if any) and those need to be changed.

  • "frags delayed" counter incrementing for Voice PVC

    Hi,
We are using VoFR between two Cisco 2610 using FXO\FXS Cards. It is a point-point link with two PVCs, one for Voice and one for Data.
I have implemented Traffic-Shaping and FRF. However when i do a "show frame pvc " command, i can see "frags delayed"counter incrementing for the Voice PVC, indiciating delay in sending packets and thus compromising Voice Quality.
    1. Is it normal to have this counter increasing ? What is the acceptable percentage i.e "frags delayed \ total frags" ?
    2. Is there anything i can do ? Would PVC Priority Queuing help ?
I need to be sure if PVC Priority is the solution, as we would have to do a Flash Upgrade to install the new software with this feature.

  • Call break during link failover in voice over ip

when i established a call from one location to another locaion, during link change call break for about 14 seconds, but in ping after one second route is changeing

To troubleshoot problems with voice networks, you must follow the call both inside the router and outside on the network in order to isolate the problem. You must understand the relationship of dial peers and call legs to follow the calls.
You can isolate where a problem is occurring by determining which dial peer or call leg is having the problem, as described in the below URL:

  • Sporadic phone issues - re-reregistering, garbled voice, garbled ringing, pulling non-voice IP

Some of our phones, but not all are having the following issues. The problem will happen sporadically throughout the day. When not having issues the phones function just fine.
Phone call quality is bad including WAN calls and analog calls.
When the phone rings the sound of the ringer is choppy.
Some phones will show up as registration rejected.
Some phones will un-register and then cycle through (re-register) subscribers other than their primary, before finally ending up at their primary.
Some phones will pull a data network address instead of a voice network address.
Some of the phones that pull a data network address will after about a minute switch over to a voice network address
    Other Notes/Troubleshooting done:
This is happening at only one of our many remote sites.
There is a VPN connection between the remote site and the main campus where are call managers are housed.
Response time to the site is fine including multiple devices at the site.
The site is in the same geographic area with minimal hops between the two.
No packet loss to any devices on the network with the exception of the phones and only when the phones decide to act up.
This affects about 75% of the phones while the other 25% are unaffected.
The problematic phones are always the same phones. While the unaffected phones are always unaffected.
This issue seems to happen at random and can go a day and a half without problems, but typically happens twice a day for about an hour and a half at a time.
A phone that is having issues can be on the exact same switch as a phone that is not having issues.
A computer connected through the phone experiences is no packet loss while the phone itself does.
Phones have been rebooted and hard reset and this does not correct the issue.
The site had possible power issues while no one was on site.

    Hi Philip,
Please collect the following logs from the call manager using Rtmt tool.
    1.  Event viewer application logs
    2. Event viewer system logs.
also if you can collect packet captures from the Phone, when this issue happens.
i should be able to tell you the reason for the reset/restart.
PS: please mention the time when the issue happened and also the MAC address of some of the phone.
