Jittering Graphics in FCP Express HD

I tried to do a credit roll in FCP Express and it was so jittery that I had to give it up. I also created a still credit and it too was jittery. Any suggestions as to how to keep the jitters at bay?
I have used FCP since the first day it was available at NAB but I have never seen this problem before. In the past I have used After Effects to create credit rolls and haven't had this problem. Any thoughts?

However, as I keep telling everyone, I have an almost prehistoric 2004 G4 eMac (1.25GHz 768MB RAM and 32MB VRAM) which ran and still does run, FCE 4 and FCP 6 perfectly well.
The only minor problem was that the new FxPlug effects did not work, but with 200 other effects there was still plenty to keep anyone happy.
Your setup will not have that problem and even though it isn't the latest iteration it should still be excellent for the job.

FCP Express HD wont install on a iMac w Intel, what can I do?

I have this friend of mine that recently bought FCP Express HD 3.5 and a Imac with Intel Core Duo.
He had several issues when installing and the application doesn't open, it gets a message that the AGP Graphics card is not the indicated for the app.
Do you know what can we do? Is there an update to resolve this problem?

It has Tiger, the most recent update, 1.3 Ghz, 512 RAM, QT 7 Pro.

If it IS FCE 3.5 and he HAS an Intel Mac that message WILL NOT appear.
It seems most likely that he is using FCE 3.0 HD which WILL produce that message.
Can you check the exact computer and the exact version of FCE?

Hi -
Lots of ways to do this, here is the method I use- gives lots of control:
Place/edit your graphic on the timeline. Do any motion keyframing you need to do.
Select the clip on the timeline and copy it.
Place the copy directly above the original +2 tracks higher+ (leaving an empty track between them).
Click on the clip you've copied and type Shift-A to mark In and mark Out on the duration of the clip.
Targeting the empty track between the two graphics, go to the viewer and from the Generator button (the button on the lower right of the viewer with the "A" on it) select Render > Highlight. That will bring a soft highlight shape into the viewer. Edit that to the empty track between the two graphics. Don't worry about what things look like at this point.
Now go to the top graphic and from the effects tab, apply Video Filters > Image Control > Brightness and Contrast and also apply Video Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur to you clip on the timeline.
Double click on that clip, and in the viewer select the Filters Tab. Adjust the the filters to get a nice soft glowing bright image of your graphic.
Once you have that, move back t the timeline and Control - click on the +top graphic+ on your timeline and from the drop down menu, choose Composite Mode > Travel Matte - Luma.
As soon as you select it, you will see that the highlight shape in the middle track in now cutting a matte shape for your glowing soft graphic on the upper track.
Now double click on the Highlight clip on the middle track. In the viewer, using the control tab, rotate the bar, change it's width and shape to your liking. To make it sweep across the graphic, switch to the Motion Tab and keyframe a move with the highlight bar starting off to the graphic, moving across it, and ending off the graphic on the other side.
Depending on the horsepower of your computer, you may have to render to see this effect playback while you are working - you will definitely need to render when you are done. The nice thing about doing the highlight this way is that it gives you a lot of control over the apperance.

Academic vs. Retail versions of FCP Express

Can anyone tell me the differences between the Academic version of FCP Express, and the full function version from retail? I work at a university with Final Cut Studio, and was considering FCP Express for home use.

Functionally Final Cut Express retail and academic packages are identical.
The differences are in the licensing. With the Academic Version you cannot:
1 - upgrade to a new version (say, from FCE4 to a future FCE5) by purchasing a reduced-price Upgrade Package - you would have to purchase a whole new Academic Version
2 - use the software for any commercial purpose
But if your question is also the difference between Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Express, the Studio version has more capabiities (Color, Motion, etc). If you are planning to use FCS and FCE together, keep in mind that you can move an FCE Project to Studio but you cannot do the reverse.

What's the best way to share a project between FCP Pro & FCP Express?

That's correct. FCP projects cannot be opened in FCE.

Tips for importing graphics into FCP

Hi all,
I am very new to Final Cut Pro, as my experience is as a print designer.
I have to make a very simple slide show and luckily I am working with a friend who has experience with FCP. My job is to set up the graphics that we'll be importing into the app. This will be authored on a DVD and played on a standard television/DVD unit.
Does anybody have any tips on how I should set up the documents I'll be importing? A resolution for the "canvas" I'll be working on? Any particular file formats I should use ( PICT, JPG, etc?...)
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I suggest you work on graphics with a larger number of pixels than the "base" video frame size - so you can zoom in, rotate and pan around it (known as the "Ken Burns" effect west of the Atlantic, or "Ken Morse" if east of the Atlantic!)
I you don't do this, and you want to tweak the graphic in FCP at all in respect of size, rotation, position etc (or move it, of course) you will lose definition in a big way.
I suggest trying about 2000x1500 pixels.

FCP express HD when I go to "Log and transfer", don't transfer.

I installed the FCP express HD. when I go to "Log and transfer", shows all the clips and when I click for log and transfer, simply does nothing. It's shows that it's trying but at the end, nothing it's transfer. What it could be? Thanks.

What are the properties of the source material you want to ingest?
What camera shot this footage?
FCE cannot log and transfer AVCHD material that was shot at 1080 60p as that standard did not exist when FCE was discontinued.
Is your copy of FCE updated to 4.0.1?

Panasonic sdt750 breaking signal . Fix from camera or FCP express?

Hi. I got the Panasonic sdt750 and since I don't know this camera very well I went to a party and every time that a photographic camera took a picture, the video breaks for 3 or 4 frames. How can I fix this? From the camera? With FCP express? I noticed that the other Canon I have don't break signal in front of flashes..Thanks..

It's an artifact of CMOS sensors called Rolling Shutter.
The Canon probaly uses CCD sensors.

I want to use 4 Macbookpro with fcp express to do transfert of excam EX clip ( with the sony plugin ) once clip are capture do only in and out to clip in my bin. After that close the project and let a editor open the same project but with FCP to finish it. After the people with final cut express want to reopen the project and see it. and may be do some minor correction
1- Does FCP express support XDCAM EX CODEC video ?
2- Does FCP can open a FCP express project ?
3- Does FCP express can open a FCP project ?

X60, x60s scrambled graphics in outlook express

I have a very strange problem with my x60(1706-8DU). The problem only occurs in Outlook Express under XP Pro. I can't read HTML messages and I can't reply to msg's at all. When I read msg in HTML, the message is grayed out. I can read only if I convert to text only. If I try to reply to the message(either in HTML or text), the reply area consists of scrambled graphics of the background and I can't type in the reply at all. Originally, I thought my xp was corrupted and I reformated the drive with system restore. the problem gone away for a little while and it came back. I had changed all the RAM and that didn't help. I also requested and received a new drive and the replacement drive and that didn't help either. I had since get an non-Lenovo drive and the problem seem to had gone away. I have a friend who has a x60s(only 6 months old) and she has exactly the same problem. I reformatted her drive and this problem came back right the way. Has anybody got the same problem and how did you solved it? Thx

Can I monitor my video with FCP Express?

I have FCP HD express and a Sony HDR-HC3.
After setting up lights and white balance is there a way, I can plug my camcorder into my computer and see what I'm getting? Without actually capturing. I just want to see what I'm going to get later when I capture. Can I do this? thanks.

I originally shot on auto - exposure, and it looks great on LCD and also on a TV. But on computer, quite dark. My editor bumped up exposure for computer, but he said, why not bump up the exposure a bit manually next time. His processing of the footage to bump up the exposure seemed like an annoying step we did not want to do on the next round. But I see what you are saying.

Create Photoshop CS4 graphics for FCP 7 use-- confusion

Still confused about creating graphics in Photoshop for import to FCP.
Been reading up on the fcp7 and cs4 changes regarding this.
Back in the day, one made larger PS files( 720x540) and scaled them down in Photoshop
to 720x480 BEFORE importing to FCP to use in a DV -NTSC sequence.
But with cs3/cs4 film/video new file template presets, do we still need to do this resizing/ change of pixel aspect ratio in PS?
Also, now with the PAR change from Adobe in cs4 and FCP adjusting their PAR,
do we need to change PARS in photoshop anymore, or on older (cs3) ps files?
Chris Meyer wrote a recent article titled "PAR for the Course" at

which mentions creating PS files at a totally different size:
" ...the preferred solution - create a Production Aperture square pixel image of

So00 does this mean ignore the photoshop template preset sizes and make 720x5334 masters to squeeze down pre fcp import?
It would be great to get this straightened out--
as you know, there is a lot of conflicting info out there!
