Jittery, poor quality, final product

I have been using FCP through Versions 2,3,4,4.5 and now I am on 5. The quality of my latest project looked awful on the TV screen - both when viewed directly from the FCP timeline (all rendered with blue/gray lines above the timeline) playing through an S-video cable and when exported to iDVD, encoded and burned as a DVD. With a Field Dominance of None, the pictures were not clear and when they moved, they were very jittery. With the Field Dominance on Lower, they moved fine but had very jagged edges when they were still.
In general, I am building timelines of moving stills with transitions. I never had this problem before and cannot find any settings in FCP 5 that are different from what I think I had in FCP 4.
Any suggestions?

Search is your friend, there is a whole bunch out there on this subject, it comes up often.

  • Really poor quality final DVD output

    Hi there,
I am about to pull my hair out because I am so frustrated.  I hope someone can help.
    The goal:
-Trying to make a DVD of family videos using premiere elements.  Basically I'm just taking the long videos we shot, editing them down to a reasonable time, then putting them in chronological order w/ a simple title.  Very simple stuff.
    The problem:
-I have successfully made a DVD of our 2010 family videos, but the quality is HORRIBLE when played back on the DVD player.
    Important background information:
-We have a mac (Mac OS X 10.6.8; processor 3.06 Ghz Intel Core i3; memory 4GB)
-I have adobe premiere elements 10
-The videos were shot from a Sony DVD 850 standard definition camera.  Originally (as in 3 years ago), I wanted to use iMovie to make a DVD.  Found out that because the video camera had muxed format and everything was interlaced, that the mac did not like it.  Basically just upon import or when importing to imovie, there was video footage with no audio.  After hours of phone support w/ apple, I was instructed to convert the files to a different format (I did this 3 years ago, at this point I have no idea what or how I did this other than I used an application I had to download).  This was successful and I was able to upload to imovie, but I hated doing this conversion process as it took too long.  Also the quality of the video wasn't so great (probably b/c of all of the conversion going on).
-So I purchased premiere elements and organizer to hopefully skip that need for conversion.
-At some point in the last 3 years I uploaded the files to premiere elements organizer (whatever format they were in at that point - I believe I was dumb enough to convert the originals but not sure, the mac is such a mess right now I have no idea what files are original vs not)
-Last week started making the DVD in premiere elements.
-Have tried burning AVCHD 1080i 30 - then burning to Dolby DVD (this seems to be the best quality)
-Have tried burning NTSC DV Standard - then burning to Dolby DVD
-Have tried burning AVCHD 1080i 30 - then burning to widescreen
-Have tried burning NTSC DV Standard - then burning to widescreen
    The Problem:
-the quality of the video is very very poor.  I can see "lines" running horizontally across the picture that kind of bounce around, esp. bouncing when there is any sound.  It is so bad it looks worse than my parents old VHS tapes.
-The menus are hard to read (only readable w/ the Dolby DVD format when burning) and then the titles for each segment of movie are very very blurry.
-I've tried to render - it is taking forever (like 2 days) and stops a lot.  Not sure what is going on there?
    What I need:
    -any suggestions
    -what am I doing wrong?
-how to I find the original files if they even exist?
-what should I do at this point to try to get the best quality?
(We bought a new camera 1.5 years ago - a Canon that is HD and will work much better w/ the software - but I still need to save these 2 years worth of videos!

    Tarheelmommy,
    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, you have posted to the Premiere Elements Tips & Tricks sub-forum, which is basically a repository for articles on how to do things in Premiere. Few ever even drop by. I will Move your post out to the main Premiere Elements Forum, where you will get quick assistance, and many more "eyes," than back here.
Thank for a compresensive post too, one with a lot of useful detail. There might be a few more questions that get asked, but we could use your post as an example of how to ask a question.
    Good luck,

  • Poor quality after days of rendering (AE CS5)

I bought an AE project file (VideoHive.net) and the first time I tied to use it things worked fine, although it took most of a day (9 hours) to render a 2 minute project. Then I made some changes (substituting pictures in the sample) and attempted to export it again. At high quality 1080 AVI, it took 52 hours and the result was a jittery poor quality mess. So then I rendered the project again at 720 as an MP4 and it only took 37 hours, but this time it was even worse and even more unusable.Same machien, same memory assignment, same project file.
I don't know if I was supposed to render in RAM first (I may hve done that before the first rander just to see what it looked like) or what combination of settings I should be using or if I should be sending it directly to Premiere (although I can't seem to make that work).  I think my first attempt was an MOV which I imported into Pr with no problem and it only took 9 hours to render. Same machine, same project.  This should be an adequate machine (6 core, 16 GB) with 80% memory assigned to CS5. I've spent hours on Lynda.com watching all the AE courses but they don't seem to include the minor details and steps. They assume the viewer can figure that out, I guess.
What is the correct process to follow (RAM first?), what render file should I be using and how long should it take for a (less than) 2 minute finished AE project?

    TimeRemapper,
    Here's the project: http://videohive.net/item/photo-album/94595
I have it running on 5 of the 6 processors using 13 GB of the RAM.
Rendering to local SATA drive, same as the source files.
I have no problem with the 9 hours, but I do have a problem with 3 days and
a jumpy mess as the result.
The images I switched out are mostly smaller than the ones in the sampler
and about the same as the scanned pictures I used in my trial run.
Should I try to export to my Premiere project or export to a file to bring
back into Pr? (added to video interview). If I export it, it needs to be 720
for standard DVD - What is the best format and settings for that? AVI? MOV?
MP4? Obviously what I selected was outside of what the machine could
    adequately generate.

  • How do I get HD quality video in final product

I am using an HD video camera and shooting at 30fps.  Its a Canon Vixia HF R300.
How can I produce a project in iMovie and burn in iDVD and still retain the HD quality.  I am finding that the final DVD in the player attached to my HD TV is showing to be poor quality.  I am hoping that I did not over promise to my client.
    Please help!!

    Hi
As Appleman1958 writes - or like this
    • DVD is as standard interlaced SD-Video - whatever program used to author it.
    • iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - CAN NOT deliver this whatever way taken as they discard every second line in the picture when going from Event's to Project's and this can not be mended in after-hand.
    • HD-DVD can be made with DVD Studio Pro etc. BUT can only be played on dedicated HD_DVD-players from Toshiba (very rare and old ones) so in reality it doesn't exist any more
But max quality is obtained by
    • Using a Video-editing program that can handle and deliver interlaced SD-Video as
    - iMovie HD6
    - FinalCut any version
    • Using iDVD and Pro Quality encoding (if duration is > 45 miniutes menu included)
    • burn speed set own to x2 or x4
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD e.g. Verbatim
    • Use of DVD-R if it's supposed to be played on even older DVD-players
If this isn't good enough then
    • Save out as H.264 to USB-memory and play on device that can handle that as a PlayStation3
    • Burn a Blu-Ray disk (DVD up to 30 min) - BUT can only be played on BD-Players (as PS3)

  • Premiere Workflow Final Product Quality Question - General

Clarification: This is just a general workflow question regardless of hardware/software/cpu/gpu. I'm also not asking about rendering times - just how the final product looks.
Do any one of the following 3 workflow methods have any bearing on the "quality" or "look/feel" of the final output of a project.
Specific effects are named in my examples just for the heck of it - the root of my question is if any given workflow with any given effects applied affects the quality of the final export/render.
#1) Raw Clip => Apply Sharpness => Apply Levels => Apply Three-Way CC => Export final product.
#2) Raw Clip => Apply Sharpness => Export Clip => Import Clip => Apply Levels => Export Clip => Import Clip => Apply Three-Way CC => Export final product.
#3) Raw Clip (sequence 1) => Apply Sharpness => Create sequence 2 and drag sequence 1 onto it => Apply Levels to sequence 2 => Create sequence 3 and drag sequence 2 onto it => apply Three-Way CC to sequence 3 => Export sequence 3 as final product.

Jim's answer is probably based on the fact that no matter what you do to a video, exporting it will degrade the quality almost every time. But that is not only acceptable, but absolutely necessary. What video would you have that did not require some adjustments, even if just a straight cut.
In any case, I think the answer you really want is:
#1 looks normal. So that's fine.
#2 will degrade the image every time you export unless you export to a completely lossless codec like Lagarith - which creates HUGE files and is totally unnecessary. It is just a bad workflow.
#3 is technically the same as #1. It's fine. No problem. In fact, it can be quite handy sometimes to work that way. Nesting does not cause the problems that exporting does.

  • Cheaply manufactured product and poor quality assurance

Where do i start with this falsely advertised "entertainment machine" HP calls the HDX 18T Premium Laptop.
A month into purchase, the case of this laptop is bulging at certain areas (top of the screen which is collecting dust and overheating, and the fingerprint scanner / sound card area, causing me to have to push it down in order to hear out of the speakers or headphones). Even when the sound does work, the quality is horrible. Think of your favorite song or movie playing and in the background the sound of nails scratching on a chalkboard.  All the rubber stoppers have fell off because of cheap glue (leaving glue stains), the battery doesn't even last 30 minutes when the laptop is idle and now the charger is dead. Did i mention i payed $1,300 for all of these problems? Thank god i had a discount code or i would of paid $1,500 to get this rectangular piece of plastic.
Ive contacted HP Total Waste of Time 3 times and spoke to numerous people over the phone and email. The information, troubleshooting, and resolutions i was presented with were as helpful as a chocolate teapot.
All of these problems are due to cheap manufacturing and poor quality assurance on HPs part. These problems don't warrant a repair, but an exchange if not a refund for the amount i spent on this laptop and the numerous problems ive encountered with it.
My last conversation over the phone with my case manager (sadly i didn't get his name) just toped my whole sour experience with HP regarding this laptop. Ive been a long time HP customer, buying 4 HP G60s and this HP laptop just last year alone and forwarded many people to HP. Saving $1000 and losing a long time customer is in the better interest of HP than exchanging a cheaply and poorly made product with countless problems. At least thats what your representatives have told me.
No wounder HP took this laptop off their website only a couple months after it first shipped.

My experience with HP is very annoying.
My DV6 laptop had a broken right hinge and a loose mouse left click button. I sent it for repair and I got an email saying that the damage is not covered by the warranty, reason being... it was a damage due to accident or misuse. That really pissed me off. The notebook was never in an accident. About misuse, how can you misuse a mouse left click button and a hinge. The reason why the hinge broke was, it was set too tight. You need to apply more than a reasonable force to open it. I use Dell computer at work, never I had this problem. In fact my Dell laptop at work is one year older than this one.
What makes the situation worse is the way the call center in India handled it. I called on a Saturday to find out the status of my laptop. The guy mention that it wasn't repaired for the stated reason. I asked for someone who has more authority so that I could appeal my case. He told me to call the following  Monday during office hours so that I can talk to a case manager. I called Monday, talk to a regular call center representative and requested to talk to a case manager. I was immediately informed that...that was the decision of the case manager. I told the rep to send it back immediately. I have no patience banging heads with a company who blames customers for the failure of their product. Yes, HP saved $292. Guess what, I will never buy HP product again.  Also, I will share my HP experience with my friends in Facebook, Tweeter etc. I know how this big companies think, we are just one of their thousands customers.

  • Poor quality "still" photo

I'm using Premiere Elements 12. When I'm choose "Tools", "Movie Menu", Then choose from a "Menu Theme", I am given the option of inserting a still photo. However, the quality of the photo in my final product is reproduced with VERY POOR resolution. Is there a solution to this problem? Does Premiere Elements 13 correct this problem?

    Thanks for the follow up.
Have we ruled out whether or not the issue exists with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    Back to the now....
When did you get the Error 16 - after naming just the SLStore Folder to SLStoreOLD? Or did you do the renaming of both the SLCache as well as SLStore Folders to get the Error 16? You should be able to convert back to the original by deleting the newly created SLStore or SLCache Folders and removing OLD from the renamed ones. Is Error 16 gone then?
After that, try just the renaming of the SLStore Folder again.
Before we give up on renaming SLStore and SLCache Folders, check the permissions for each so that they are set for write/read for Everyone.
    Then the classical generic ways....
    1. Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists.
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and in the 12.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives active so that you can see the complete path cited.
    2. If that does not work....
    a. uninstall the usual Control Panel way
    b. do a free ccleaner run through (regular clearner and registry cleaner parts) to get rid of any leftovers from incomplete uninstalls reinstalls
CCleaner - PC Optimization and Cleaning - Free Download
    c. reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
We will be watching for the new developments.
    Thank you.

  • Poor quality/customer service from Digital Services LLC (Microsoft's provider of Wallet Cards and etc.)

    Hi All,
I recently chatted with MCP support to inform them of poor shoddy service by their provider of Wallet Cards.  Has anyone else had any problems with quality/service with the below provider?  If so who can I contact to report the problems I had with
    them?
Below is a copy of the statement I provided to MCP support:
I ordered a wallet card quite awhile back.  Upon delivery I discovered that it was very poor quality and some of the lettering "Solutions Associate" was very faint.
I contacted arvato digital services LLC to report it.  They requested that I send them a scanned copy of the wallet card.
They then agreed to replace it.  I was told that it would ship 12/17/2013 and after a month or so of not receiving it I contacted them again and Daniel apologized and said it had gotten lost in production.
I was then promised a ship date in January.  I had to contact them again and I finally received it today 2/7/2014.
The papers that came with it said my credit card would be charged.
To summarize:  I was shipped a poor quality card which took them over 2 months to replace,
no improvement on the card still looks like the first one they sent me and finally they said my card would be charged .... AGAIN?
I want Microsoft to know what very poor service arvato digital services LLC is providing to their Members and how I can get a quality card replacement without any additional charge.
I offered to  send the second poor quality card received and also the back and forth emails requesting that they resolve the problem.
By the email time stamps they will see the very long length of time it has taken to resolve this issue and the fact that it is still not resolved.

Same here. I just received them today (21/02/2014). Very very disappointed.
I ordered the Solutions Expert & Specialist Card. Both are terrible beyond all recognition.
Both photos in the cards are blurry, unlike the ones I previewed in the design page. Just like you said, the lettering ('Solutions Expert' & 'Specialist') on BOTH cards are very faint.
I even ordered the 'Specialist' card in German just for curiousity's sake.
On the bottom at the back of the card where you find the "Download the Tag reader app at: http://gettag.mobi" sentence, I found this incomplete (and perhaps just to show their level of incompetence) sentence:
aden Sie die Tag-Leseanwendung hier herunter: htt
Missing the first "L" and the incomplete "http://gettag.mobi"
First, you discontinued the MCM/MCSM program and the whole works last year. I know this is a very different thing and has a very big difference (and revenue). Now you showed the (lack of) care even for the tiniest bit of a Microsoft Wallet Card.
I see no use of contacting Arvato, just another time-wasting effort, third party subcontractor and all that.
    Guys, forewarned is forearmed.

  • Poor Quality Images/Slides - is there a solution?

    Hey everyone,
I'm putting together a simple video that uses the occasional slide from a powerpoint presentation. I import the slides as JPGs, matched to the frame size of the video. It looks OK when I preview the movie... but when I export, it quality is very poor. It's hard to read the text in the images, and the overall presentation looks quite unprofessional.
I have some experience in video editing, but this is my first project in Final Cut Express. I am trying to render the movie first (but it only takes a few seconds for a 15min clip.. so i wonder if I'm doing it right?).
The main issue is the poor quality slides. I don't have to use JPGs... as I'm a designer, and can use a variety of formats. The most important thing is that the powerpoint slides look clean, crisp and professional.
Any help, suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I know nothing about Powerpoint slides but could this be the same problem you get when trying to put the Computer screen on a video?
It looks horribly blurred and jittery because you are squeezing a screen of at least 1200 x 900 pixels onto a DV frame of 768 x 576.
Any detail is totally lost and the overall effect is blurred.
There is no cure unless you can edit and display in high definition.
So could that be your problem?
A normal JPEG photograph should look fine on TV, especially an LCD or plasma one.

  • IPhoto album to iMovie to iDVD, poor quality of projected images

I am preparing a slide show of digital photo images.  The finished product shows poor quality images.  I am import the images as an album to iMovie, add a few title slides, then export either to media file or directly to iDVD.  The results remain unacceptable when projected on a flat panel HD TV.  Where am I going wrong?
    Marks 3

If you are using the Share ➙ iDVD menu in iMovie, don't.  Use the Share ➙ Media Browser menu option and then drag the movie frome the Media/Movies pane in iDVD into the projects menu window. The Share ➙ iDVD route noticibly degrades the resulting movie.  What size movie are you sending to iDVD?  It should be Medium or Large.
What size images in iPhoto are you using?  They shoujld be cropped to the 4:3 size ratio for iDVD before adding to either iMovie or iDVD.
Have you considered creating the slideshow in iDVD by adding the album of photos via the Media/Photos pane in iDVD.  I've found I get better results that way.  However, there is a 99 slide limit with that workflow.
What do you mean by poor quality.  When going from a photo on your monitor to a TV screen the media gets resized and compressed/encoded down to 640 x 480 which can't duplicate the high resolution of the original image viewed on the monitor.

  • Poor quality burns

My burnt discs are of poor quality. Some images are fractured around the edges. Others are simply not sharp. I have tried using both +R and -R discs but the problem remains. Very disappointing as I have been working through Final Cut Express HD for the first time. Any ideas?

    Hi
Just to add to Kasas good answers.
    1. iDVD 6 has two levels of qualities.
    • Best Quality (movies up to 120 min) - slightly lower quality than - se below
    • Best Performances (movies less than 60 min) - Highest quality on final DVD
    2. From FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov
iMovie - Don't use Share/Export to iDVD = destructive even to movie project and especially so
    when the movie includes photos.
Instead just drop the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    3. I use Toast™ to make an as slow burn as posibly eg x1
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disc. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc).

  • POOR QUALITY SPEAKERS

Have you noticed that the speakers installed by Apple in each MBP has poor quality in terms of crisp sound output? and even if you adjust the volume, you only get as much that you need to have your ears closer to your unit for you to hear clearly and appreciate the sound or music that you listen to?
Compare it to the Harmann & Kardon of Toshiba Protege or listen to the sound of the speakers of other laptop brands. The price we pay for an MBPro unit does not come up to standards of competition. They have better speakers that produce quality for our listening pleasure.

    Try installing WOW.

  • 'ken burns' poor quality interlacing jagged

This post is to document issues with 'Ken Burns' rendering in Final Cut Express 4 and some workarounds and possible bugs in software I found.
    Similar posts about this issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/5207261#5207261
When I import images into final cut express and  apply keyfram effects with panning and zooming a.ka. the 'Ken Burns Effect' I find that image quality is very poor. This occurs in most BUT NOT ALL images in viewer and canvas windows as well as rendered footage.  The video issues are severe interlacing artifacts (horizontal blurry lines) as well as motion jitter along edges.
Many other users on the web suggested the following, which did not work for me:
-Avoid using JPEG files because their compression introduces artifacts which causes problems for Final Cut
I have found both JPEG and TIFFs have trouble with Ken Burns, although I do have certain TIFFs that seem to work.
-Using different software to render ken burns panning.
This seems silly to me.  I find that the integration of  pan, zoom necessary for fine tuning during editing.  This would be extremely time consuming to separately generate each pan/zoom clip and import. I have heard that some software has high-end smoothing, but I am satisfied with the images that do pan and zoom correctly in Final cut.
-Adjusting Field Dominance in the clip properties to none
this was already set on my clips
    -Adjust render settings.
I saw a 1001 rendering 'recipes' offered up to fix image pan/zoom issues. None worked
    Things I discovered
Ken burns effect looked great when the image was in a transition, but bad when it was not.  For example: Imagine a 5 second cross dissolve between regular video and ken burns motion image.  When image becomes clearly visible in the latter 2.5 seconds of the transition it looks excellent while panning/zooming. When the transition finishes there is a sudden change to poor quality in the pan/zoom.
-The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
-There was nothing special about these render-not-necessary images that I could find in resolution, settings, etc.
-Good looking images were jpegs, gifs, and tiffs
I tried converting other images and reimporting, no luck
-I can make the ken burns look good for all images by playing the movie in the canvas window and setting it 99% zoom.
Any zoom level other than 100% looks good.
-This seems like a bug to me.
Eventually I just used a screen recording application called screenflow to capture my video playing in canvas window at 99% in real time.
    This worked.
Hopefully someone can explain why rendered images never look good and what format works to get the dark green line and avoid rendering all together and these problems.
I don't mind converting file formats beforehand as long as they work well

The render bar on top of the timeline is dark-green for good-looking images, which according to the final cut manual, means 'no render necessary'
This is misleading. It simply means rendering is not necessary for playback. It does NOT mean that the material does not need to be rendered.
100% zoom level is as close to how your video actually looks that a computer monitor can display.
You never said what format you're working in.
You always have to render still images. You're making video, and they're not video.

  • Deploying BO universes and webi reports in quality and production

    Hi
We are on BO XIR2 SP5 and reporting on SAP BI Infocubes and Queries.
We have 3 environments setup, each for development, quality and production.
During universe development, while creating a new connection we provide the IP address of application server, username ,password, system id,client number etc details.
The above details would defer for 3 different environments. In our case we have built around 50 universes.
So what would be the smart way of deploying these universes in each of the other 2 environments?Because changing universe connection details would mean re creating the universe classes and objects which would be a huge effort.Would the webi reports continue to work upon re creating the universe with new connection details?
Please suggest a best and smart practice for the above scenario.

    Hi,
Using Import Wizard tool in BO you can  migrate Universe and Reports from dev env to test.
Using the Import Wizard tool you can migrate the reports.
    Steps are as follows:
    Open Import window:
In Source environment , enter the details of dev environment.
Destination wizard you have to enter Test env credentials.
Then you have to select all the universe and the wid files from this wizard (The files you want to transfer ).
Finally finish this wizard by pressing finish button.........
    Hope this will help you
    Regards

  • Flash is a poor quality software

Guys, after just short time (luckily) that I had to work with flash, during which time flash show what its capable of (not a positive thing), my thoughts on it.
Flash is extremely poor quality software. Incidents working with flash involved
    1. thumb doesn't show up on slider when I click button once, but shows up when I click this same button twice. (code: thumb.visible=true), that all there was to it!!!
    2. movie clips moved out of scene are showing on scene anyway
    3. Simply copying the aforementioned slider and placing it on first frame on main scene brakes totally unrelated code somewhere else. But pasting the same slider on second frame doesn't brake that code anymore! Needless to say that slider has no code whatsoever so it couldn't possibly reference anything in my scene anyway!
What else? Yesterday I was happily working till lunch. Saved my work, went, had a lunch, came back, try to open my file, nope, not so fast flash tells me that this is incorrect format of a file!!! I couldn't believe what I'm seeing. I've never during my 15 years of working as a programmer came across software which couldn't open file saved by itself. Apparently, this is very common problem with flash: Re: I cannot open FLA files in CS5 "UNEXPECTED FILE FORMAT" help!
Luckily I've had save this file the day before so I've lost only half a day's work.
Another phenomena, during debugging flash goes through lines of code and at last line throws error that child mustn't be null, which is really bizarre because on previous lines I've had that child object and flash didn't complain at all:
child = new Item();//goes through this line
    child.setUp("myChild");//goes through this line
addChild(child);//throws ERROR that child mustn't be null.
Another incident, two buttons identical class, all is different is text on them, one says play, the other one says settings. First button do not respond to mouse events, specifically to mouse_over event, second button behaves correctly. Situation got resolved that I've added another, dummy button and moved it out of stage. Now both original buttons behave correctly!!! How is this possible???
Another incident from before yestarday. Same slider. First frame, two copies of it. First one (top one) after publishing looks as it looks in editor, second looks completely different! parts are scaled up, far away from each other, total mess!!!WHY??? I simply put one slider from library and copied it once. Same frame, same slider, no code involved whatsoever and despite this flash messes things up.
Another incident with slider. The same slider copied from one frame to other. One works perfectly on one frame (that is you can drag the thumb and the thumb follows your mouse), paste EXACT!!! copy of this slider on different frame and the slider becomes unresponsive!!! Un effing bellievable!!!!
Oh, and one more thing, can this software and swfs produced by it be any slower and use more processor power?
There were also plenty of others smaller annoyances how flash behaves, or why doesn't behave correctly. I'm so glad that will not have to work with this software anymore. It is so bad. And it is Flash CC. Unbelievable.
So I suppose, my question is, why is flash so poor quality software, despite the fact that is on the market for so many years?

    Are you serious?
    Are you genuinely serious?
    Are you really...
How can anyone think that this, out of box should compile? How?!?
The child isn't declared, Item class isn't defined, how can you think that this could/should compile? How?!!!
As I've said in one of my previous posts, this is simply snippet of my code with those problematic lines. And why I have problem with this is, again, as I've said previously flash does go through two lines with child variable, but throws error (during debugging) at the third line that child variable mustn't be null!!! while just before second didn't have any problems with referencing this variable, just one line previously.
And no Amy, you are wrong saying that I've nulled this variable somewhere.
If you look at the code (from one of my other posts):
    //[begin of example]
    //some function's body
         child = new Head_mc(); //Head_mc is a movie clip
      trace("child: " + child);//outputs some name of this child
child.setUp(aHead);//goes through this line fine while debugging
addChild(child);//GIVES ME ERROR TELLING ME THAT THAT child MUSTN'T BE SET TO NULL!!!!!!
if I change this code to:
    //some function's body
        var c:MovieClip = new Head_mc(); //Head_mc is a movie clip
c.setUp(aHead);//goes through this line fine while debugging
    child = c;
addChild(child);//No problems, but why is it that this works and the first code doesn't work?
    //[end of example]
you will see that the only function which could possibly nullify child variable is function setUp, yet this function is called in second example as well as in first and yet first example behaves incorrectly and second example works as expected. Why? What's different there?
Oh, and @sinious, please mate, give me a favor and don't try to compile it, because it is impossible to compile. But also please note that I mention that the debugger goes through some lines so it must mean that at some point I did compile it first and then started debugging. It does make sense, doesn't it?
As for working with complicated software/languages?
Guys, please don't make me laugh.
Maya, Catia, AutoCAD, 3DMax, Visual Studio, Blender, Photoshop, ZBrush, UDK, UE4, - (except Catia I work on weekly basis, every week of the year (except holidays and weekends that is) with each and everyone of those products), and of course as a language of choice I use C++. How do you think C++ compares with regarding difficulty, complexity, learning curve to as3 do you think?
Flash (and as3) is a relatively simple but buggy, poor quality and unreliable software. I can say that not because I cannot learn it. I can say that because I've worked with it and experienced it's poor quality and "bugyness" from day one. I also worked with other software in my life, I also do work every day of my life with other software (the above mentioned), and flash simply proves to be of poor quality.
None of the software I've mentioned couldn't open file it just wrote couple of minutes ago. With flash it happened. Not once now, but two times. And not just to me. Plenty of examples on the web. Guys, please, open your eyes. It didn't happen because I'm a bad/incompetent programmer. It happened because flash is a buggy, poor quality and unreliable software. And companies are ditching flash not because I say it is bad. They ditching it because through their own experience they realized that flash is a buggy, poor quality, poorly performing, unreliable software. That's all there is to it.
And as for self-congratulatory behavior of yours:
"Plenty of evidence is here to the contrary so, mission complete"
    What mission did you achieve?
The one in which you proved to everyone that you don't understand that you cannot compile code snippet which is taken out of context?
What kind of programmer you are, it just makes me wonder...
