Jmf in ubuntu?

is jmf really supported in linux?
i googled a lot and found different ways how to install it in ubuntu, but none
of them works.
who have tried installing jmf in ubuntu and could show me how to do this?

You say that like there's a claim that JMF is supported in Linux. It isn't.This may be true, however, that's really a question of "support" for JMF generally, not just for linux.

There is a cross-platform version that doesn't do much but does it on any platform that runs Java...and then there's the more feature rich stuff, but that's actually a Solaris implementation.
There is no Linux version of JMF, but you can generally get the Solaris version to run on Linux if you try hard enough...This is most certainly untrue. There is a Linux version of JMF. If you go to download JMF 2.1.1e, you'll see 3 options - Linux, Solaris, Windows. If you select the Linux version, it provides you with two options, a "Linux Performance Pack" and a "Cross-Platform Java" version.
I've managed to install the Linux performance pack by means of tricking the tail command, which is the only major stumbling block. I can vouch for it playing single audio files and video on Ubuntu 10.10.
Or, if you don't want the hassle of tricking tail, just search for the jmf-installer package on launchpad.net

    Hi all,
I need capture video from java. I have a QuickCam Communicate STX web-camera.
I downloaded JMF, installed and set paths:
    export JMFHOME=/home/geroz/jmf/JMF-2.1.1e
    export CLASSPATH=.:$CLASSPATH:$JMFHOME/lib/jmf.jar
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$JMFHOME/lib
now, when I write "java JMStudio" into console, show window with JMStudio, but when I can open video file, not play anything
If click into capture button, my web-camera start working, but on monitor I only see black window with any horizontally lines
If open mov video file (in JMStudio):
    Failed to configure: com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@142a80d
Bad header in the media: Expected mvhd atom but got rmra
    Error: Unable to realize com.sun.media.PlaybackEngine@142a80d
Failed to realize: failed to parse the input media
    if open mp4 video file:
Unable to create a playerjavax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for :file:/home/geroz/Desktop/file.mp4
What's wrong? How can I test the correct installation? Diagnostic applet not work.

Just because you speak Spanish doesn't mean you can understand Cuban...
Put another way, just because your camera supports outputting a format that JMF knows how to read, it doesn't mean JMF will be able to successfully get the stream from the camera and decode it... if your web cam drivers are doing something funky with the way they are giving JMF the stream, then JMF may very decode the stream incorrectly.

    My problem is this:
After resolved to unzip the file (tail -n) , I had install JMF-2.1.1e for Linux.

Make sure you're running as an administrator...
And try using "vfl://0" as the locator and see what that gives you.

    2. sudo sh jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin

    4. export CLASSPATH=$JMFHOME/lib/jmf.jar:.:${CLASSPATH}
    5. export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$JMFHOME/lib:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
and the installation detect sound and cam and finish ok.
    Can you help me??

That's the exact same error message you'd get if you typed in "java Waffles" because it can't find the JMFStudio.java class.
Mostly because there's no such thing as JMF Studio. It's "JMStudio" and thus the proper command is:
    java JMStudio

    Hi,
Trying to install jmf-2.1.1e on K-Ubuntu 8.04.1 (not using root or sudo...)
    download jmf-2.1.1e-linux.i586.bin
    $ sh ./jmf-2.1.1e-linux.i586.bin
    After some questions, it shows:

After some search at SUN forum, i found

    from: tail +309 $0 > $outname
    to: tail -n +309 $0 > $outname

if that were true, there is another way to use the web cam using java and integrate it with the jmf
my application should use the webcam under linux
and transporting the contents in rtp,
All this works fine under Windows
Fortunately linux should be spotless and without bugs :)

    Hey Eran,
I guess, you can find the solution to your problem here:
It works well on Ubuntu, but since the error on Ubuntu looks exactly the same as on Centos, I think it should work for you as well.
    Cheers,
    Georg

  • Not able to recognize any video/audio devices using jmf and java soun

    Hi ,
I need one help from your side.
Here I am expecting some clarifications from you. Before that let you my environement.
    My working environment :
Eclipse tool and added jmf jar to my project I did not do any thing more.
If any thing I need to do just let me know. My target platform is MAC & UBUNTU.
    Please bare with my questions.
    1) I am not able to recognize any video/audio devices using jmf and java sound APIs on My system.
( I checked with the app mentioned in the http://www.java-forums.org/new-java/11201-jmf-cannot-connect-device.html )
Do we need any administrives rights for our working PC.
What is the procedure/ setup I need to follow from a java application to enable particular audio/video device since I dont about end-user system setup right.
If possible send some sample code to recognize /r detect audio device ( voice input ). It should run on both MAC and UBUNTU.
    2) I run the one sample audio recording application of this link (http://www.jsresources.org/examples/SimpleAudioRecorder.java.html) which is provided by YOU.
I got output audio file and able to hear voice on UBUNTU system but not able to hear voice on MAC system.
I heared that default line in ( audio setup of the sys) is wont take any voice data on MAC.Why I made this stmt means we are getting false when using isSupported methods of JAVA SOUND API.
( like for TragetdataLine ...i,e, all ports are getting false)
I have one sample audio recording app implemented by QUICKTIME API. In this case also he taking audio ftom device only using quicetime API.
With that we are able to record and hear audio ( voice input --> not line in , external device we added some thing like SSB...)
    3) In case of Video capturing DataSource, Streams are implemented by PullBufferDataSource , PullBufferStream intefaces used.
In case of Audio capturing DataSource, Streams are implemented by PushBufferDataSource, PushBufferStream intefaces used.
Can you explain the reasons ? I gone through API but i am not clear.
HOPE I WILL BE CLARIFIED EVERY THING FROM YOU.
    Thanks

    Thanks

i tried some ways but it doesn't change
i use JMStudio to open them.
Please help me. I need to solve it now because my project is out of date.

it's rate is 1.0 and although setRate((float)0.1);Then it sounds like an issue with using JMF in a virtual machine. Don't know that there's anything you can do...

  • Make IE ready to run the applet in ubuntu machine

    Dear friends,
I want to check JMF installation using diagnostic code in IE6/IE7 on ubuntu.
I have downloded these browsers. When I was checking the JMF installation, using this below URL,
    http://ku-prism.org/virtualprism/explorations/JavaTest/javatestpage.html
Applet wasn't run, and it hasn't display the any messages ( success/Failure) inside the applet window.
Can any one tel me that, How can I run the applet in IE6/IE7 on ubuntu ?
    Note:
When I was checking this to windows xp ( IE) , it says below nmessages,
For JRE => jre Version... 1.5.0_10
For JMF => JMF Version... 2.1.1e
    All Java Build
    Native Libraries found success.
    Thank you,

As an Applet does not have a method main, then obviously you need to convert it to an application, which does.

  • JMF Webcam help

I'm interested in getting a usb/firewire camera to capture imagery to be analyzed in real time with some java-based algorithms. After crawling the forums, it seems like most quicktime compatible cameras can be bridged in with QTJava.
My question though: Is there a camera that has a java api for it's actuation? ie- Is there a camera that works with JMF, that also has some sort of driver libraries to control movement? I'd prefer to not rewrite that code just yet, and there were some suggestions in previous threads for people to "write your own driver..."... so who wrote one and what camera do you use :)

    hello again guys..
im back here to see if someone has some other advices.. :)
i solved this problem on ubuntu.. but my client said he needs my java application running on Mandriva..
i already did everything i did on ubuntu..but im still cant connect the webcam on my java application..
at jmstudio and jmfregistry the device is found..so..help me.. :)
