  • JMF in Solaris - Unable to handle format

    Hi
I ran the sample codes AVTransmit2 and AVRecive2 in Windows and it worked great. However, when I ran it in Solaris, I got the following error.
Unable to handle format: mpegaudio/rtp, 44100.0 Hz, 16-bit, Mono, LittleEndian, Signed

This application uses the Solaris XIL interface which has been declared obsolete and may not be present in versions of Solaris beyond Solaris 9. Please notify your application applier.
Anyone has any idea on why it went wrong?
    Thanks,

I doubt the convertion to stereo or to big endian will have any effect, because...

  • Cannot install JMF under Linux Mandrake 10

I simply cannot install JMF under the Mandrake 10 Official Linux distribution. I downloaded the jmf-2_1_1e-linux-i586.bin file and tried to execute it as root. It unzipped some files then showed me an error message about AWT and GTK+. I found a hack consisting of modifying the .bin file to have the PATH variable point to SUN JDK, the error does not show up, but the installation still does not work. In fact, the installation works, but the Diagnostics applet keeps telling me than class files are not present. My Mozilla 1.6 Java plugin is working and displaying the applet. My JMF lib directory does not contain sound.jar, such jmf.jar. I set the CLASSPATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH according to the readme.html file. I would like to know if it is a compatibility problem with Mandrake 10, the 2.6 kernel or if JMF just DO NO work under Linux. In the latter case, JMF is a violation to the Java portability philosophy and I would never use it on my own initiative, just if I were asked to.
After the files are unzipped, I have the following warning and error messages.
    Warning:

Even if I do not have a working video capture card (I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 128 but it is not working under 2.6 kernel), JMF should work because some people do not have a video capture card. I also tried with the cross-platform ZIP file, but this one does not contain sound.jar either and the Diagnostics applet keeps complaining about missing class files. I tried to search on the Web for solutions to this problem or for a way to change the CLASSPATH used by the Mozilla Java plug-in (if it uses a different CLASSPATH than the one from the environment variable), but nothing, nothing. Is there a distribution from which JMF would work better than Mandrake 10? Or can JMF work only under Microsoft Windows or Sun Solaris? I also tried Blackdown, but a README file directed me to the Sun's page, nothing to download here about JMF.

well, your not the only one.
I have it working in Debian, and JDS.(JMF is setup automatically in JDS).(2.6.6 kernel)
I looked at the installation structure of JDS, and was able to duplicate what they did for Debian.
Maybe it will work for Mandrake two??
ok, all you have to do is copy or create soft links from your Mozilla directory, just like you did with the java plugin, and link to all the *.so files in JMF-2.1.1e/lib directory.
    Should work.
I also read that not haveing the native files only matters if you are doing Capture. not play.
to get your ATI All-in-Wonder 128 to work, make sure you install the correct driver, and have it working under linux, then try it in JMSTUDIO

  • How to use 64-bit native libraries on Solaris?

This question has probably been asked many times, but I couldn't find the answer in my searches.
How can I get Java Web Start on a Solaris client (Solaris 10 in this case, with JRE 1.5, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions installed) to run a java application that includes a 64-bit native code library? The application runs fine when invoked directly on the workstation.
The application downloads properly with Java Web Start, including the jar file that has the native shared object, but when the native library is loaded by the java application, I get a "wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64" error.
I assume that is because Web Start is invoking the 32-bit java VM, which can't load a 64-bit library. I tried configuring Java Web Start to use the 64-bit VM (by setting the path to java to ".../jre/bin/sparcv9/java" in the javaws console) but then I get an error that says "Can't load library: .../jre/lib/sparcv9/libdeploy.so".
Does Java Web Start support the use of 64-bit native code libraries, and if so, what am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

So, it may be better to create links in $APP_HOME/bin/java that point to the binaries in /usr/jdk/version-you-want-to-use/bin/sparcv9 rather than copying binaries.

  • How to make 64-bit JVM default on Solaris 10

    Hi,
I am running my application on Solaris 10. Currently, my application uses JRE 1.6 32-bit version. I am trying to make it work with JRE 1.6 64-bit version. I successfully installed 64-bit java using the instructions here: [http://www.java.com/en/download/help/5000011500.xml] and am able to invoke 64-bit java using either $JAVA_HOME/bin/java -d64 or by using $JAVA_HOME/bin/sparcv9/java.
My application always invokes the java executable under *$JAVA_HOME/bin*. By default, this is invoking the java 32-bit version which I do not want. Of course, I could add the -d64 option to all calls to java in my application. However, I do not want to do that as java is being called from a number of scripts and some scripts are also being shared between multiple platforms.
How do I make the 64-bit java the default? I tried copying over the java executable from under *$JAVA_HOME/bin/sparcv9* to *$JAVA_HOME/bin*. This seems to invokes the java 64-bit version correctly from within my application. However I do not know if this is the right thing to do or if it has adverse side effects.
Any help/inputs will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you so much.

    Hello captfoss!
The Linux video drivers are buggy. If you give them video they don't like, they crash. You seem to repeat this statement quite often......but I don't think s/he is using Linux. S/He is using Solaris10 !!!
I don't know if Linux and Solaris are same OS.............
Thanks! And please don't take it as a comment! :-)

  • Solaris 10 virtual machine for VMware

I've tried the "Solaris 10 OS, AMD x64 Platform - Solaris Enterprise System Virtual Machine for VMware (Solaris 10 11/06) 3.0". I've d/l the virtual appliance for vmware one can find from there : http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/solaris_apps/index.jsp#vmware
    I encountered 2 problems :
The first was the network (netcard) wasn't recognised at all. It's strange because the settings should be the same for every vmware virtual machines. It may be because I'm running the latest version from vmware (10.0.2). The default option was NAT, and I tried the others as well. All other systems I'm using with vmware are working correctly, including the opensolaris "Nexenta".
The second one was with the screen resolution, it was excessively huge, around 2800 x 2000. I couldn't change it in the gnome desktop (the option had no effect). I managed to change it by altering the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. The same was for the keyboard settings, I couldn't switch to azerty (french) keyboard. I had to change it in xorg.conf file.

im new to vmware too, but just wan to share my experience with you.
5.5.1 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - my NIC still define as pcn0, encountered packet drop network issue
    - dtlogin doesn't work properly with my screen resulation, mouse work fine without pressing ctrl+alt key to get out from vmware
6.0 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - no more packet drop issue, especially when i ssh from pc to vmware.
    - gdm fit to screen, GUI work fine.
    - my shared folder working now, mount as /hgfs.

How do I build GCC 4.3.1 on Solaris x86?
    Thanks

The bootstrap compiler is GCC 3.4.3.
I tried Sun's assembler (/usr/ccs/bin/as) too and got another error (below)
I also tried bootstrapping with Sun's Studio 12 compiler but that too failed.

  • Booting Solaris 10 without starting X

I have changed the graphics adapter in my PC and the new adapter is not recognized by Sol10-i86.
The PC is freezing after booting and starting X.
I have a Solaris driver package available for the card but this needs to be installed in the shell. How do I start only the shell after booting without starting X/cdm?
    Thanks for feedback
    /A

    Hi
In x86 while booting it will give a option to press Esc to abort auto boot .Do that and select a default /Basic driver for the video and monitor.Save changes and continue ,you will get the commandline login prompt .Use the pkgadd to install .Once installed reboot and follow the same process and select the device driver you have installed.

  • MP3 Support in Solaris

I'm starting a new project that requires MP3 support.
What is the support of MP3 using JMX in Windows and
Solaris with the Enhancement Pack. Can I decode it?
Can I encode it?I am not entirely sure, but I have been working on some
webstart examples of launching the Performance Pack
    versions of JM Studio(1) & JMF Registry(2).
    (1) http://www.javasaver.com/testjs/jmf/#test3
    (2) http://www.javasaver.com/testjs/jmf/#test4
I expect (OK hope) the second can tell you what
it supports for Solaris - particularly for the mime-types,
e.g. for the Windows PP, it looks like this..

  • How to disable snmp v1 and v2 on solaris 10?

    Hi there,
How can snmp v1 and v2 be disabled on solaris 10 update 3?
We are only interested in keeping the v3 enabled.

So, it may be better to create links in $APP_HOME/bin/java that point to the binaries in /usr/jdk/version-you-want-to-use/bin/sparcv9 rather than copying binaries.
To see current java links: (I edited all non-java-related links out of listing)

BTW, on my machine (SunFire v445, Solaris10, 64-bit)
    isainfo -v produces this:
    -> isainfo -v
    64-bit sparcv9 applications
    vis2 vis
    32-bit sparc applications
    vis2 vis v8plus div32 mul32
So, what will this do for me?
or even better $(JAVA_HOME)/bin/`isainfo -v`/Edited by: SolarisSAinPA on Jun 12, 2008 5:38 PM

  • In wha platforms is JMF running ?

Hi all. I just saw that there are JMF package installation for Windows, Solaris and cross-platforms. For what platforms does the cross-platform work ?
Does it work on Linux ? And on MAC ?
    Thanks for the info...
    John

Well tito, I configured JMF under my Linuxbox with RedHat and MAndrake and works great, just it doesn't captures video... :( I also think that under Mac will work nice because it's based on Java and JAVA is Multiplatform... :)

  • What is the "Cross Platform Java" option in JMF Download?

If you go to the JMF download site:
    http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/download.html
and click "DOWNLOAD", there are 4 options:
    (1) Windows
    (2) Linux
    (3) Solaris
    (4) Platform - "Cross-platform Java"
What is that 4th option for?

The new all Java MP3 encoder is a sweet treat though.
I was calling a small .exe that links to the iTunes encoder from my Java programs. Hey, at least I can still use it for free AAC encoding!
I tried to find the "official" link to it but couldnt.
but you can get it here:
    http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=35242
its called "iTunesEncode46" and it uses the iTunes encoders to encode wav files.
