JNDI lookup from a JSP page (URGENT)

Hello,
In my JSP I was using the "conn = DriverManager.getConnection("URL","username", "password")" scheme
to connect to the database. I want to change this to use the JNDI for the database lookup in the same JSP.
After creating this JSP i am using the include directive to include this JSP in all my other JSPs so that I can get the connection on other JSPs too.
My included JSP where I use the JNDI look up is:
<%@ page import="javax.naming.*,javax.sql.DataSource,java.sql.*" %>
<%!
static Connection conn;
static Statement statement;
static DataSource dataSource;
%>
try{
     Context ctx = new InitialContext();
     dataSource = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("MY_JNDI_NAME");
     conn = dataSource.getConnection();
     statement = conn.createStatement();
}catch (Exception excep){
     out.println("Exception occurred "+excep);
%>
After I include this JSP in my main JSP, i get some error:
188: Type expected. } catch (Throwable t) { ^ 1 error
Can anyone here please help how to fix this.
Thanks

<%@ page import="javax.naming.*,javax.sql.DataSource,java.sql.*" %>
<%!
static Connection conn;
static Statement statement;
static DataSource dataSource;
%><% // <-- you were missing a "<%" here
try{
Context ctx = new InitialContext();
dataSource = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("MY_JNDI_NAME");
conn = dataSource.getConnection();
statement = conn.createStatement();
}catch (Exception excep){
out.println("Exception occurred "+excep);
%>If I run that code in tomcat I get "Exception occurred javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name MY_JNDI_NAME is not bound in this Context". Which is what I would expect.
btw: You really shouldn't be doing this stuff in a jsp.

  • How to use JNDI lookup from a JSP

    Hello,
    I know I should not be doing this (writing the lookup code in a JSP) but have to do it for some reasons.
    I am using this code in my JSP:
    try
         Context ctx = new InitialContext();
         dataSource = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("jdbc/mybillingora");
         conn = dataSource.getConnection();
         statement = conn.createStatement();
    catch(Exception excep)
    Is this code enough for a JNDI look up?? When I use this code, I get an exception:
    "javax.naming.NameNotFound exception:jdbc/mybillingora"
    Do I need to do something else??
    Why do we use :
    Properties env = new Properties();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,
    "<some_context_factory>");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, PROVIDER_URL);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, JNDI_USER);
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, JNDI_PWD);
    InitialContext = new InitialDirContext(env);
    where JNDI_USER is the userid If ACL is configured at the JNDI server
    where JNDI_PWD is the password If ACL is configured at the JNDI server
    Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY is the initial Context factory and depends on ur JNDI service provider.
    PROVIDER_URL is the url of the JNDI server containing protocol/ip/port
    do i need to use this??
    would appreciate your help on this....
    Thanks

    If Tomcat is your servlet/JSP engine, they have a nice bit about how to do it:

  • How to retrieve the parameter names from a JSP page ? Urgent Please

    Hello,
    Can anybody tell me how to retrieve the parameter names from the JSP
    page. (without using getParameterNames() method.)
    The problem with the getParameterNames() method is I get the Jumbled output.
    I need it very badly

    Dear duffymo,
    My primary intention is to convert the JSP form information into a XML file.
    If I do not get the Parameter names in the correct order how can I maintain
    tag order in XML file.
    For ex: (JSP PAGE VIEW)
    Name--
    FirstName
    MiddleName
    LastName
    Address--
    Street1
    Street2
    City
    Country
    &so on
    (XML File to be generated)
    <Name>
    <FirstName>Value</FirstName>
    </Name>
    <Address>
    <street1>value</street1>
    </Address>
    & so on
    If I use getParameterNames() to get all the parameter names(Which form the tag names in the XML file ) the Enumeration object it returns will not be in the same order as the text fields in JSP.From this I can not construct a meaningful XML file.
    order means: Order of entry on the page, from top to bottom
    That's it

    Here is the solution:
    Properties props = new Properties();
    props.setProperty("orabpel.platform", "oc4j_10g");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial",
    "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url", "ormi://localhost/orabpel");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.security.principal", "oc4jadmin");
    props.setProperty("java.naming.security.credentials", "welcome1");
    and several jars have to be added to the project:
    Orabpel.jar , Orabpel-common.jar, oc4j*.jar,
    %ANT_HOME%\lib\ant.jar;
    %ANT_HOME%\lib\xercesImpl.jar;

  • How do I call a 10g report from a jsp page securly?

    How can I call a report from a jsp page securly? We are migrating from 10g forms to J2EE, and we want to keep using our reports. In forms we were able to do this using a cookie. How can I pass a users credentials to reports without the user having to connect to the database? Single Sign-on isn't an option either.
    Thanks,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,
    If you want to pass the user credentials to the report dynamically, then SSO (Single Sign-On) is the only option I can think of.
    If the user credentials can be hard-coded, then the following 2 solutions are possible:
    1. Use cgicmd.dat file, and write the user credentials in the file.
    2. In your report JSP itself, you could write the following:
    <rw:report id="report" parameters="userid=scott/tiger@mydb">

  • How to call a report from a jsp page

    Hi
    1) Can anyone please tell me how can i view Discoverer report from a jsp page instead of opening it directly thru plus/viewer.
    2) Please clarify do i need to install Infrastructure and OID for it.
    Please advice.
    Thanks

    You need the AS infrastructure if you want to use connections. If you do not intend using connections, you do not require the infrastructure.
    Note that you cannot pass in passwords in the URL any longer. You do not need to pass passwords if you pass in a Discoverer connection id (but then again - if you don't use connections, then you do need to still pass in the connection information - username, password, database, language, EUL)
    I have a post on my blog that describes how to pass a password using an HTML Form submit - http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2005/08/passing-password-to-viewer.html

  • Opening a seeded OAF page from custom JSP page.

    Hi All,
    We have requirement to open a seeded OAF page from custom JSP page.
    When we try to open URL of an OAF page after passing URL input parameters, we are always getting following error:
    'You have insufficient privileges for the current operation. Please contact your System Administrator.'
    On directly accessing the seeded OAF page, its encoding all the input parameters passed in URL. Also some more encoded parameters are getting added to the URL dynamically.
    Is there any standard way exists to invoke seeded OAF pages without passing encrypted parameters to it? Also where can we get more details about
    encrypting OAF URL parameters.
    Any pointers would be appreciated.

  • Executing a shell script from a jsp page

    Hi,
    I'm facing a problem while executing a shell script from a jsp page.
    I'm using Runtime.exec() function.
    It's working fine for single statement scripts.But if the script consists of any database processing and some other processing statements,it's not returning the correct exit status of the process.
    Will u please help me in this.
    If there is any other ways to execute a shell script from a jsp page other than Runtime.exec() like RMI etc,.If so let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
    It's hard to help you but what you can do is listening to the outputs of your script, you should read the output stream and error stream and send them to the default console.

    But .. PAI Logic in Java code doesn't called ...
    Where is my problme ?
    Help me ...
    Regards, Arnold.

    Hi Arnold,
    you should not do a form.submit yourself. Instead you can put a component called ExternalSubmit to your page:
    ExternalSubmit exSubmit = new ExternalSubmit("EX_SUBMIT"));
    exSubmit.setServerEventName("MyEvent");
    This results in a java script funtion on the page which is called "_htmlb_external_submit_". If you call this function the the form gets submitted and your event handler is called.

    Martin

    Apache HTTP server isn't a servlet/JSP engine.
    Your JSP runs on Tomcat, right where the servlet does. Apache just forwards the request.

    hi all,

    Technically no. But what you can do is output a word document to the browser with the contenttype "application/msword" and if word is installed it will be opened inside the browser.

  • SSO problem when redirecting from a JSP page to an external application

    Hi,
    I try to make a redirect from a JSP page (that is under a SSO protected application on iAS) to another page from another application, on an external iAS server, also protected by (a different) SSO. After the redirection is done, the login window appears, I enter the login name and the password and after that I obtain the followin error:
    "Oracle SSO Failure - Unable to process request
    Either the requested URL was not specified in terms of a fully-qualified host name or OHS single sign-on is incorrectly configured.
    Please notify your administrator."
    In the logs og the server I found the following:
    [OSSO] W05: Requested URL is not specified in terms of fully-qualified host name or invalid SSO partner configuration. Host from request
    mycompany.com:7777, registered host 144.147.147.200:7778.
    (the ip address being the address of the mycompany.com host).
    Any clue about this? Thanks a lot in advance!
    Regards,
    Marinel

    Hi Carlo,
    Thanks for your answer.
    The JSP original page is not added as a partner application to the second SSO server.
    The idea was that the user should insert first the login name/passwd for the first server, after being logged in, then redirected to the second application (on a different server), insert the login name/password for the second application and then load the 2nd application page. It seems that is not working after inserting the password for the 2nd application.
    Coming to a more general question that could help me to avoid this complicated approach: is it possible to have two different applications deployed on two different iAS servers and the two applications to use the same SSO (let's say the one from the first iAS server)? I have to mention that the process scenario is the following: the user load a page from the first application (protected by SSO), then, after successfull login and some processing in the first app, he will be automatically redirected by the first app to the second application, on the second server. I want to have also the second application, on the 2nd server, protected by SSO (ideally would be the same SSO as the first one!). Ideally the scenario would be: if it is redirected from the first app and the user is already authenticated, the automatic redirection should be done transparently for the user (without enetring the password again). If the user goes directly from the browser to a page of the second app, the SSO login window should be displayed and the user should provide his password.
    Is such a scenario possible on two apps deployed on two different servers?!
    Thanks a lot again!
    Regards,
    Marinel
