Job Interview

Hello Experts.
I am trying to break into MDM job market. I am a SAP BI and XI Consultant.
1.I was wondering what type of questions do they ask on the interview?
2.How is job Market in MDM?
3.How much experience do you need?
4.What are the usual project scenarios on the job (Legacy systems or ERP)?
5.How long are usually the projects?
6.Is ABAP or JAVA a prerequisite for the job?
7.What are the rates for permanent position?
8.How many people are usually on the project, and what are the roles?
I have seen the job postings for MDM and usually they are not very descriptive. Is that because they have no knowledge of what they need?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Igor,
As you already know about XI, it would be a great help to you because most of the business scenarios of MDM, XI will use.
As of my best knowledge....
1. I was wondering what type of questions do they ask on the interview?
they can ask for the basic functionality of MDM related to MDM Console, Import Manager, data manager, Syndicator etc....
they can ask for various business scenario which you have done like...
MDM-BIW integration, SRM-MDM Catalog, MDM-XI-R3 integration, RPCM,
enrichment adaptor etc....
4.What are the usual project scenarios on the job (Legacy systems or ERP)?
It depends on the client requirement but you shold know about the R3-MDM integration.most of the requirement it would be use.
related scenarios as I mentioned are MDM-BIW integration, SRM-MDM Catalog, MDM-XI-R3 integration, RPCM,enrichment adaptor etc....
5.How long are usually the projects?
It depends on the client requirement.
6.Is ABAP or JAVA a prerequisite for the job?
It would be great help for you if you know these.
because MDM is having MDM ABAP API's as well as MDM JAVA API's.
Hope this will help you.
Any further details,let me know.

Saurabh...

Well , you won't go for shopping when there are already guests in your home , will you? In case, that didn't make much sense, I meant that you won't start reading books, pdfs, looking at websites when you are going to have an interview already scheduled for you. I can bet my money( whatever little I have) that even doing this, won't bring you any good. If your question directly or indirectly is related to the questions that the interviewer may ask, once again, this would be a total wrong approach to go for an interview. In almost no time, it can be find out whether you are speaking some crammed line or from yourself. I had a chance to sit on the other side of the hot seat and the guy in front of me was giving all teh bookish answers. I twisted the questions and I was sure that he must have not read them anywhere, guess what happened. he started fumbling and finally gave up.
Interview is what you know, what you have done so far. Its not to start picking up LOTS of books, looking for the questions/answers and just think that the interview will happen from that only. I have some questions whose answers, at least the complete answers , you won't find anywhere. My suggestion is to just go for the interview, be honest about what you know and more about , what you don't know. You haven't committed a crime by not knowing some thing. I know nothing and I am never scared from the interviews ;-) .
Not sure that did help or not but still, best of luck.

  • Quick Start Guide Info not working. Need info for Job Interview

I am brand spanking new to Java but I have a job interview next week and this is one of the topics I need to learn a little about. Here is my issue if someone would kind enough to help.
I downloaded and installed SDK and JDK I am going through the quick start guide I am using the Quick Start guide that comes with Application Server PE 9. The quick start guide requires you to download a "Tutorial Bundle" that comes with the Java EE 5 Tutorial.
The Quick start guide then tells you to access certain files that are in the Tutorial bundle. For example it wants me to go to /Samples/Quickstart directory in the tutorial bundle and look for the hello.war. Unfortunately that directory and file does not exist (there is an /examples/web/hello1 directory but no hello.war
Long story short is there anyway to find a Tutorial Bundle that actually works with the software that I downloaded? Thanks in advance for your help

I found another guide. Thanks anyway

  • Advice to newbie before job interview

    Hi!
What would you advice to read to a person who has only a little knowledge about SQL and wants to learn basic Oracle Database topics before his job interview?
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.Well, you didn't tell us forwhich position and track you are going for? If its developer than probably little knowledge of SQL will be a big show stopper. You need to have good knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL atleast in addition to other technologies like XML, Java and so on.
If you are going for DBA interview, than knowing about Oracle concepts, how it works, key components , administration tasks, this all is a must. Besides that, it will be an addon if you know about operating systems.
The adivce is that person should be preparing himself well before attempting an interview. With little knowledge, it may be tough to clear the interview.
For the learning, Oracle concepts would be the starting point, followed by sql, pl/sql, administration, backup/recovery andperformance tuning. For this, oracle docs is a good starting point.

  • Job Interview - Help and Advice Needed

    Hi all,
This may seem like a strange request for help but I'm completely stuck. I've just completed a Computer Science degree and have applied for a Junior Developer role at an Insurance company. I was lucky enough to get an interview which is this Thursday. Which is great, but not so great!
    The interview is a 45 minute programming exam and the only instructions I get up until the exam are;
As an overview - it will require you to write some software using a language of your choice to interrogate a database and manipulate the data.
Now I'm not the greatest programmer (strange considering I'm applying for a Junior Developer role, but a jobs a job right?!) and during my degree I never used any language other than SQL/Oracle to interrogate databases. I've said that I'll be attempting the task with Java (as its the language I know best) However - I'm not sure where to start looking to get myself up to speed.
Could some of you be so kind as to point me in the right direction of where to start looking? What classes should I focus on? Am I right in thinking I would need to use DTOs? Am I asking the right questions?!
I don't hold out much hope for the interview but I'll be going for the experience at least - but if any of you could offer any advice on what I should revise before hand I would be forever greatful.
    Many thanks =@)

With only 45 minutes, I assume the task will be pretty narrowly defined. My experience is that new developers out of CS majors (myself included) tend to over-design things. Given the short amount of time, I would suggest not trying to impress them with your knowledge of patterns unless they make the task easier to finish in the allotted amount of time. Focus on completely the task(s) successfully. That's going to be a lot more impressive unfinised work. 45 minutes is going to blow by, so don't get too fancy. In addition, if you over do the design, a lot of experienced developers will not look upon it kindly. Keep it simple and correct.

  • How to get job interview in dba

Hi im krishna. And Im freshher  finished oracle ocp certification and having good knowledge in linux but i cant able to get any interview as dba entry level ,im getting only linux based interview... my ambition is to become dba please help to kick start my career ...

OCA or OCP are either both multiple choices questions exam. Both can be passed without any experiences.
    >It seems like the OCP certification level can be reached by memorizing the docs and Oracle course records only.
    Yes, it does.
    >Does not seem to be a real value to me
    No, it does not.
    >or do i miss something here?
To be fair, an experienced DBA can prove his value with certification. Here it's a good stamp on resume.
But agreed, there's no real added value to be certified without any experienced, except to validate you know how you can memorize the docs. Oh well, it's not that bad after all, but does not prove you know how to work or solve anything and so forth.

  • Job Interview Question

    Hi hussein/helios
I was interviewed by a BPO global support company for an appsdba position.
    They ask me:
Q1 Supposing a company/client is complaining that their Oracle Apps 11i on Linux is running slow or that they encounter
performance problem. And you are hired to help them solve the issue. What steps/activities/actions are you going to take?
I said run statspack and check what the problem is. (but actually I do not know how to interpret statspack :D)
    What would your answer be?
    Thanks a lot

    Hi,
I agree with Helios suggestions for diagnosing performance problems. Performance Tuning is a time consuming process and requires accurate identification of the problems. If your DB performance is degrading, then first place to look at is it's alert log file. The issues are dumped into it. If there is some error (ORA-xxxxx), then research it on MOS previously called Oracle Metalink and resolve correctly. Also verify what has changed in the system since performance starts degrading. For example, some patch application or parameter change. Also check system resources especially RAM and CPUs whether they are sufficient or not and tune poorly performing SQL queries (the most important) which may need proper statistics gathering and index creation. Use ADDM to identify problems as well as recommendations. I believe ADDM takes much shorter time and gives accurate solutions. If this DB is part of EBS, then purge concurrent manager log/out files regularly. Also check whether your network is performing well. Normally productions are running on 64-bit OS. 32-bit OS have some limitations which may also cause performance degradation. For example, SGA limitation in Linux x86. You know database operations are being done in SGA (System Global Area). You can use Oracle Diagnostic Tools like RDA and OCM to further dig up things. Watch Enterprise Manager Database Control Console home page regularly to eliminate any problems proactively before they become critical. Apply the latest patches to fix security vulnerabilities and other bugs because some performance problems are related to Oracle Bugs.If still you think that you are unable to understand the problem, then raise an SR to Oracle Support. These are the things that will help you to tune your system properly.

  • Interview Questions Required.............Help???

I have done Oracle Database Administration Track and I need a job
for that purpose i want any one to send me the interview questions
I need any job and i have to prepare for the interview...................
    Please help me...............
    My e-mail address is
    [email protected]
    Thanks in advance.............

Most probably you have already gone trhough your job interview, but either way this goes for people who are trying to get acquainted with a job interview.
As an employeer I check the individual twice, once for the technical interview, the other for the profile interview.
On the first one, any thing can come to my mind. I request the prospect to present a 10 minute topic, with a 10 minute Q&A. Oracle DBA is wide, but I can immediately, from an open question, know if the prospect knows what he is talking about or not. On the profile interview it can be displayed if the prospect is looking for a job, just because this person is looking for the money or if this person is really committed with the dba tasks and the company's goals.
There are some other companies who hire dba's and at interview time there is an expert panel who will validate each produce syllable.
My personal advise is that any prospect be completely honest, there are several crossed questions aimed at discovering discrepancies and contradictions; proactively gain experience and be prepared to answer to whatever comes ahead, and finally not only request for a job but promptly offer solutions to the company's problems.

  • Friday Question: Best Interview Questions

For this week's installment, I'm asking for questions (what?).
If you were to interview somebody for a job in your domain (and I know that many of you probably do interview people), what are some key questions you would ask?
I'm always disappointed in job interviews when I just get asked the same go-to questions: Would you rather work on a team or alone? Name a problem you experienced. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Blah. Those kinds of questions only reflect negatively on the company, I think. Sure, a few might be necessary, but the answers are so generic that it really doesn't teach the interviewer anything about a person.
What would you ask somebody applying for a job in your field? How would you determine whether or not somebody is a a capable programmer? What traits about a person do you think are important to learn about before hiring them? How do you learn them in the limited time an interviewer has? You don't actually have to be in a position to interview people to answer this question: If it was your job, what questions would you want to ask?
Anyway, just a distracting discussion for a Friday. Respond if you want, don't if you, um, don't. Either way, have a lovely weekend!

    Entry Level:
Why are you here? (as in why did you become a programmer)
Explain to me what recursion is, elaborate on what the benefits are and the pitfalls.
Give me at least 3 looping structures in any language.
What was your favorite class and why? (this better be a class in your area of study and not underwater basket weaving)
Did you work in a team project?
    What was your role?
    What was the outcome?
What observations do you have about your team interaction?
    How were conflicts resolved?
What would you do differently now?
    What are your career goals?
    Experienced W/O college degree:
Why do you want to work here?
How long do you want to continue in development--what's your career goals?
Explain to me what recursion is and elaborate on what the benefits are and the pitfalls.
Give me at least 3 looping structures in any language.
What was the your greatest success?
    What was your greatest flop?
If you could go back and do anything differently what would it be?
    Experienced with college degree:
Why do you want to work here?
What was your most significant area of study?
How long do you want to continue in development--what's your career goals?
Explain to me what recursion is and elaborate on what the benefits are and the pitfalls.
Give me at least 3 looping structures in any language.
What was the your greatest success?
    What was your greatest flop?
If you could go back and do anything differently what would it be?
Early on in my career I was able to finally convince the people that I worked for that they had to ask technical people at least some technical questions--you'd be amazed at how many "programmers" cannot name at least 3 different kinds of loops in any language.

  • What are the key points of a job nterview as a java programmer ?

    Hi,
I would like to know what to expect from a job interview as an entry level java programmer ?
    Do you have recommendations ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Grazia

Primarily, be honest. That is true only if you are going to be
be interviewed by technical people. RH people don't
care for honesty or how good you are. More than once
I was asked in an interview:
"Are you an Expert in java? You would say from 0%
0% to 100% how much do you know java?"
My usual answer is: "No. I have still a lot to
to learn, java is a vast subject and its is very
unlikely someone know it all, I have a good grasp of
the sintax and of OO design but I would say I know
just 5% to 10%". Then they make a "face" pass a
crappy test that only deals with the simplest of the
java concepts(usually it is clear the person who
designed the test does not even grasp the basic), the
last one took me 8min to answer and I leave knowing
that one more time I did not got the job.
As it is I never go any job if the RH is the
he responsible for the hiring, I only get the job
when I talk directly with technical people.
May the code be with you.'RH'? You mean 'HR'?

  • Interview Questions Needed

    Hi there,
My name is Micheline and I'm working on a program called Sun Developer Network (SDN) Channel (https://developers.sun.com/channel), it's an online monthly developer event that communicates the latest information around the developer community in a thematic way. On July 26th, we're launching a Linux edition with video interviews with Sun experts. We'd love to hear from you on some questions that you would like to hear Sun answer. This is only a 5-7 minute video segment; therefore, we can only pick one or two questions total.
Please post your questions and if we do plan to use them, we'll contact you directly.
We look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks,

I think the OT is looking more for press interviews than job interviews.
