Joikuspot versus tether

Other than the obvious - no cable - is there any advantage to connecting my laptop to my phone by using Joikuspot to turn it into a wifi hotspot, versus tethering it to my phone by USB cable?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Perhaps I didn't correctly understand the eula. It says that they will need to store my phone's ID on their servers, and that they can publish the location of my hotspot at any time. I don't understand why they need to do this. I thought the application only allowed a tetherless link between my phone and my laptop, for example, and then I am using my phone's cell provider to access the web. If I was using a bluetooth connection between my phone and my laptop, I wouldn't expect the bluetooth company to need that info or have the right to publish it?
"JoikuSpot requires the JoikuSpot application to post its client-id and cell-id and some other user, device and usage related data to a secure network server for service activation and authorisation and for quality, measurement, additional services that may include useful information and updates, and reporting purposes. When you use JoikuSpot, you allow it to post any and all such client, user and service usage information to the network based back end system defined by JoikuSpot. You further allow JoikuSpot, at Joikusoft's option, to publish your JoikuSpot HotSpot location on external web based mapping services such as GoogleMaps."

  • Can I tether the internet connection from a smartphone to my iPod?

    Hello everyone,
I own iPod Touch 4 with iOS 4.3.3 (8J2). I want my iPod be able to connect to the internet when WiFi broadcasting is not available around while I am on the go.
So my question is: Can I tether the internet connection from a smartphone to my iPod? With which smartphone or mobile OS other than iPhone/iOS?
I don't want to JB my iPod Touch.
I heard that smartphones with Android can tether the internet connection to iPod Touch, bu I am not sure, I searched the internet but couldn't find anything as I wanted.
    Thanks, regards.

I've got a (now considered ancient) Nokia N95 8 GB mobile, with the app JoikuSpot Light on it - has been working really well though I wouldn't suggest buying Nokia if you were going to buy a new mobile...if you happen to get your hands on an old-ish Nokia or Ericsson (Symbian platform) Joiku will do a good job of creating a wifi hotspot. • WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Boost Mobile Example

    Greetings Earthlings and Android Fans....
Just posted this to my blog and wanted to share a text version here. Check it out if you're looking to tether your tablet to your cell phone. I tethered my Thrive to my Boost Mobile LG Marquee.
From:  Kaio's Klassroom: WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Infrastruct...
Want to tether your tablet to your cell phone, but Ad-Hoc got you down?  How about trying this nifty little tweak that got me up in running in a jiffy!!
I recently got a new LG Marquee Prepaid Phone with Boost Mobile @Amazon and I really love it.  Only problem is, I was spoiled with my last phone because it was rooted to support Infrastructure tethering and I had no idea how difficult and unusual that was.  I've since done some research with my new Boost Mobile LG Marquee, and after a little trial and error (and some lucky Google searches) I have successfully tethered my LG Marquee to my Toshiba Thrive tablet!!!
    Here's what I did:
Mandatory Disclaimer - The following information is for informational purposes only.  Proceed at your own risk!!!  Rooting will void your warranty and could "brick" your phone if you do something wrong!!  So if you damage your phone, or any of your tech, that's on you.
NOTE: If you don't have an LG Marquee, just search "your phone model" + "root" and you should find plenty of information specific to your phone.  There's always people wanting to do the same thing you are, so it's just a matter of finding the information that's already out there.  Once your phone is rooted, come back here and start on Step 2.
Step 1 -- Root your LG Marquee (You do NOT need to root your Tablet)
The following information was taken from LG Cell Phones Blog and are for the LG Esteem, which is a generic root mod.
    > Enable USB Debugging on your LG Marquee: Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging and check the box.
    > Download and install the LG USB drivers at:  LG Cell Phones Blog You want the file "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1_2.exe"
    > After installing the USB drivers connect your phone to a PC.  On the phone, pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and click on USB Connected.  Set the phone to Internet Connection mode (CHARGE ONLY not Mass Storage).
    > Download "LG_Esteem_Root.zip"  at:  LG Cell Phones Blog.  Unzip the file and double-click on the run.bat file.
Note: Kaspersky Internet Security will flag this file as a Trojan: "Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.ag"  I don't believe this file is a Trojan, per se.  I believe it's required during the root process.  When I let Kaspersky eliminate the file, my phone wouldn't root.  So I decided to run the root program on a secondary computer, just in case.  I disabled Kaspersky temporarily on that computer, and ran the root zip and my phone rooted without a hitch.  I later scanned my phone with Webroot Security and AVG, and neither found any viruses on my phone, so I believe the process is safe.  Technically, rooting your phone probably does involve a Trojan hack, hence why Kaspersky flags that file.  However, I must reiterate to proceed at your own risk.
Just in Case -- How to Unroot Sprint LG Marquee:
Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.  Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one.
Step 2 -- Verify that you have properly rooted your phone with this nifty free app: Root Checker Basic
If you did everything right, you should get a message that says "Congratulations, this device has root access."  If you fail to get that message, go back to Step 1.
Step 3 -- Download the Android WiFi Tether for root users app
Currently, the only version of Android WiFi Tether that worked for me was 3.1-beta7.  The newest version doesn't work properly with tablets, so be sure to get 3.1-beta7.  Here's a link and QR code for easy access: WiFi Tether 3.1-beta7 apk
Step 4 -- Configure WiFi Tether app:
I've tried many settings, but these are the only ones that have worked.  Start the app and grant Super User Permissions.  Then Click Menu to get into the app's setting.  Inside the Settings, do the following:
    > Change Device Profile to: Samsung Galaxy S
    > Change Setup Method to: Netd (Master)
    > Enable WiFi Encryption: Check box to Enable
    > Change Pass Phrase to: any 13 digit password of your choice.
    > Change SSID to: any name of your choice.
    > Change Channel to: 4 (2427mhz)
    > Disable Update Check: Check box to Disable.
    > Click your phone's Back Arrow to Exit back to the app's Main Screen
    > Touch the WiFi button onscreen to start tethering.
    > Grant Super User Permissions
Note: If you get Error Code 67, Click Dismiss.  If you update, I don't know what will happen; my guess is it will disable the ability to tether.  But if I click Dismiss, my tethering is Enabled, and works perfectly.
Step 5 -- Grab Your Tablet & Start Tethering
    > Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Check the box to Enable WiFi > Click WiFi Settings > Under WiFi Networks, find the SSID for your tethering app that you entered in Step 4 above. > Click on the SSID of your tethering app > Enter the 13 digit Pass Phrase you created in Step 4 above and Click Connect.
That's it!  Congratulations -- your tablet should now be tethered to your cell phone!
Now that you're tethered to your cell phone, be smart, and DON'T download a ton of gigabytes.  Just be smart about it, and you should be fine.  Remember, tethering to your cell phone probably goes against the terms of service with your cell phone carrier, so DON'T abuse the privilege.
Now that you're the envy of all your friends, why not test your data speeds: SpeedTest App - FreeMy data speed test results with my Toshiba Thrive tablet tethered to my LG Marquee:
    Download:  855kbps   Upload:  302kbps
That's pretty great for a 3g no-contract cell phone with unlimited data.
    Happy tethering everyone!
    Go forth and Androidify!
    Hugs, Kaio

  • Problems with the new iPad and Joikuspot premium after iOS 6

    Hi,
I'm experiencing serious problems with my new iPad after last iOS update. Usually I was connecting to the internet through Joikuspot premium on Nokia mobile phone (E6). I was able to do everything, https sites surfing, absolutely everything with no exceptions.
Now, after iOS 6 update, I can't connect to https sites, google+, sync calendar etc.
I've tried to change connection criteria on joikuspot but nothing. The fact is also that other devices as laptop or other smartphones are still working perfectly, in any case, sharing the wi-fi connection created by joikuspot.
Finally the problem is 100% due to the iPad and the new iOS.
disappointing, amateur for such a device... (iPad I mean).
    Any help?
    Many many thanks

  • Outputting DVI to HDMI input in LCD TV versus using the DVI to RGB ?

I am thinking of buying a mac mini to connect to a Toshiba 20HL85 TV in the lounge primarily to act as a "media server" and accessing Front Row for music, photo's, DVD watching etc. The question is which connection to use to go from the mini to the TV for Video (audio is fine as it will route into my AV Receiver)? The TV has an HDMI input, component video, s-video and a VGA port. The user manual for the TV says:
Note: The HDMI jack is not intended for connection to and should not be used with a personal computer. For PC connection, use VGA cable and connect to the VGA port. The VGA port allows the following resolutions:
    Monitor Display modes:
    VGA 640x480 60Hz
    SVGA 800x600 56.3Hz
    SVGA 800x600 60.3Hz
    XGA 1024x768 60Hz
    WXGA 1280x720 60Hz
    WXGA 1280x768 60Hz
I wanted to know a few things as I have no experience with the MAC mini and HDMI:
    1. Will I not get a better/crisper/sharper picture if I connect through a digital port like HDMI versus going through the VGA port?
    2. I have checked a few LCD TV's user manuals and they all seem to say the same thing i.e. "Do not connect a PC to the HDMI port" - I fail to understand this when the Apple site specifically says under "accessories for the MAC mini" that "HDMI is electrically similar to DVI, but has a different physical connector that may include an audio signal. You’ll need a DVI to HDMI adapter, such as the Belkin PureAV HDMI to DVI cable to use these televisions".
    3. What am I missing? Should I just go ahead and buy the DVI to HDMI cable and MAC mini and plug it in i.e. has anyone done this and had it work? Is it better than VGA (I would hope so)?
Bottom line is does the MAC mini connect to any TV with an HDMI port or are there different types of HDMI ports and hence I need to search for the right TV first? If so, what must I look for? Thanks for any help I can get.
    Power Mac G5 Dual 2GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

One word of advice. I just hooked up my mini to my 32" Lowe HD TV using a DVI to HDMI cable and it doesn't just work. The native resolution of the TV is not available for whatever reason so I have to bodge another resolution which looks terrible. When I plug my powerbook in via a DVI to VGA connector it just does work selecting the correct resolution automatically.
Either the problem lies with the mini or with connecting to the HDMI socket. As the HDMI is simply a dvi with audio I can't see why it would cause problems but who knows. Given all the other problems I am currently having with the mini I am pointing the finger in that direction currently.

  • Billing doc cost PCA versus GL

The billing doc cost should be different for the PCA posting versus the GL posting. We have transfer pricing activated as well as material ledger. On the material master the standard price for legal valuation is different than profit center valuation and that is fine. When the billing doc posts it uses standard price for legal valuation for the GL posting. It should use standard price for profit center valuation. It uses legal valuation instead. Goods issue does use the correct standard price for GL versus PCA though.
How do I make the billing doc use the correct standard price ( profit center valuation ) for PCA?

    Hi,
I am a bit confuesed on scenario explained by you and I am tring to restate the same:
    1.  You are using Transfer Pricing and Material Ledger is active.
    2.  You have different prices updated in Standard Price for Legal and Profit Center Valuations respectively.
    3.  When you make a goods issue, the system uses the Standard Price in the Legal Valuatoin for accounting.
    4.  You need the system to use Profit Center Valuation Price for accounting.
    Opinion.
The Goods issue as updated in the Financial Accounting should use only the Legal Valuation values.  The Profit Center Document anyhow will have the cost of sales based on the profit center valuation.  This is by design and correct approach.
If your question is related to values posted in Profitability Analysis.  You need to activate profit center valuation in PA and then you will see that both values flow to Profitability Analysis.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Performance: Reports Builder versus Running on mid tier report server.

Folks are wondering why a report takes 15 minutes when running on the middle tier report server, paper layout, pdf output displayed via adobe, versus running the paper layout from a laptop within Reports Builder.
Any thoughts about the performance differences we now face with the 3 tier set up or suggestions on what we might tweak?

    hello,
unfortunately your post did not specify what the difference in performance is and whether you are connecting to the same database and what platform your deployment environment as oppsed to your dev environment is.
there are certainly some performance differences expected if the depoloyment platform is significantly different from the development paltform, but those differences should not be significant.
there are certain things that might cause performance differences (e.g. graphs in reports, using DISPLAY vs. DEFAULT_DISPLAY on unix platforms, etc.) so knowing a bit more about your platform would be helpful.
also it would be interesting to know if you see a similar degredation with other reports or even the test.rdf that comes with the product. last, but not least, have you tried to deploy your report to the OC4J that comes with the developer suite ? if so, do you see timings similar to the builder or more to your app server execution times ?
    thanks,

  • Authorized versus Associated.....trying to share content

What is the difference between a computer being AUTHORIZED to play content from an iTunes account versus a computer being ASSOCIATED with a device so it can be synced and play the content? It seems multiple computers can be AUTHORIZED to play content from multiple iTunes account but each device can only be ASSOCIATED with one iTunes account (or is it one computer) at a time. Is that correct?
If so, can all the AUTHORIZED content on a computer (even if from multiple iTunes accounts) be synced to one ASSOCIATED iPad?
I have a Work Computer (PC), Associated Work iPad and Work iTunes Account and a separate Home Computer (iMac), Associated Home iPad and Home iTunes account. I am trying to figure out how to share content? Currently all my content is in my Home iTunes Account / Computer. My Work iPad, Work iTunes Account are both new and I want to share some of my Home iTunes content on my Work iPad.
I am concerned when I read that once a device is ASSOCIATED with an iTunes account it can not be ASSOCIATED with a different account for 90 days. I can't risk ASSOCIATING my Work iPad with my Personal iTunes Account and being locked out from syncing my Work iTunes account on my Work iPad for 90 days.

Okay, I figured it out myself and will document it here so others may benefit.
A computer can be AUTHORIZED to play/use content purchsed from multiple iTunes Accounts. There is a limit to the number of computers that can be AUTHORIZED per account (5 total) but no limit as to how many accounts a computer can be AUTHORIZED to play. Once you have AUTHORIZED all the accounts AND downloaded all the purchased content from each account to a computer, this content can be also be played on any device ASSOCIATED with the computer. A device can only be ASSOCIATED to one computer but one computer can have many devices ASSOCIATED to it. As an example, you can use apps purchased on from multiple iTunes accounts on an iPad as long as the computer the iPad is ASSOCIATED with is AUTHORIZED to use/play the content for each of the accounts. Another example: if you also purchased music from all the iTunes accounts, you could listen to it on an iPad, iPhone and iPod as long as all three were ASSOCIATED with the computer where all the accounts were AUTHORIZED.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I tether my Blackberry over USB cable (to sync info)? [SOLVED]

Firstly, I have to thank all of you for making this such a great community and excellent guide to getting almost anything working on Linux - this is what makes Archlinux the best distro IMHO.  I have hardly ever needed to post anything here because the answers are almost always either in the wiki or the forums.
Lately though, I received a Blackberry 8310 and wanted to tether it to use its data plan here in Ecuador.  After following http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Blu … GPRS_Howto using a small USB bluetooth adaptor, this has worked well and the connection stays up nicely, though very slow (to be expected).  Blueman is a great program!  Looking at improving my connection speeds (and reducing my latency), I am now trying to get the phone tethered via a USB cable to the phone, rather than over-the-air (Bluetooth).
The problem I am having is that I cannot establish which device exactly is the USB port connecting to?  Before this phone, this worked fine on my Nokia E51 setting the modem to be /dev/ACM0.  On Nokia, I would connect the phone, select PCSuite mode and 'sudo wvdial movistar' or my /etc/ppp/peers/movistar script would work fine.  Blackberry however is a whole different kind of animal.  I connect it with a standard USB cable, select 'no' to mass-storage-mode on the phone, and can see it in lsusb fine but the only device I seem to be able to use is /dev/tty2 but modem not initialising.
How can I be certain which device I am using?  Will post some lsusb and dmesg.log out put when I get home to give you more info.
thanks for any guidance you can give me,

Well, haven't got much further here unfortunately, though I have more logs and debug information now:
First, I connect the blackberry to the USB port and run 'lsusb':
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
so I have my blackberry device listed by the looks of things..
I then run (for more info):

Maybe the blackberry required 'usb_modeswitch' - though I could not work out how to use this command
Any ideas out there?  Is there a simple way for me to probe USB devices in use?  As far as I can tell it IS /dev/tty2 but I need to confirm this.
    Many thanks,

    Hi there JByrd,
Let's take a closer look into this. What plan are you currently on? If you are on the More Everything plan, then you shouldn't have to do anything additional. If you are on the Nationwide plan it is an additional $20 a month for 2 GB of data. Let us know what plan you have. Thanks!

Hey Erin how about you confirm to Elector and others that you HAVE to pay for tethering on Nationwide plans and that if you are using a 3rd tethering app to bypass paying you are violating the terms of service. They don't seem to believe me.

  • Multiple versus a single collection search with Verity

I have a simple question about Verity search collection.
We have been using verity for a number of years, but we have
    never done
any real performance testing in regards to a single
    collection versus many.
All documentation and articles argue for multiple small
    collections when
indexing for better indexing performance. But what is the
    performance
hit when searching 2 collections instead of 1 combined
    collection?
How about 4 collections instead of 1?
    Thanks

We are searching 7 collections with some 100.000 documents. I

  • Can I tether with an iPhone 4s and a Windows 7 laptop?

Is there more to this than just turning on the hotspot and connecting the two together via cable?

No, if the Hotspot is avaiable on the Phone then your provider is allowing it, and no extra service is necessarry.
Once the Hotspot is on, all you need to do is connect your Phone to your computer. Make sure you have iTunes installed on the computer you wish to tether as it provides the drivers for the USB connection.
The Phone should appear as a new network connection for your computer to use.
