Join endpoints

Hi
I have a paths that was drawn in Photoshop that I have copied into Illustrator, which I plan to flip and join together to create a perfectly equal shape, but when I try to join I get the message that
to join you must select two endpoint etc.
What can I do ? I am selecting two endpoint!
Help! Please!

waud,
Be careful to start by clicking, rather than just dragging over, or the underlying Anchor Point(s), if any, may remain hidden.
Yo may also click and delete (Undo is your friend).

  • No more smooth/corner option when joining endpoints in CS5?

    OK, I've looked around for the answer. Where did the smooth/corner dialog box go in CS5? Yes, my points are aligned.
    Thanks

    There are two updates related to Join functionality in CS5.
    1. There is a new functionality to join two anchor points of same or different paths by using Cmd/Ctrl+J. You don't even need to select the anchor points - just select the path in full and press Cmd/Ctrl+J. The closest anchor points are detected and joined. A second press of Cmd/Ctrl+J would join the remaining ends. Example:
    To join the anchor points of your choice, just select those anchor points and press Cmd/Ctrl+J. Example:
    2. The earlier shortcut to join two overlapping anchor points is different in CS5. It used to be Cmd/Ctrl+J, but now it is Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+Opt/Alt+J. The method remains the same i.e. the two anchor point have to be overlapping and selected.
    Hope this helps.

  • Where did the possibility to join two smooth endpoints into one go?

    I used get a dialog box when joining two overlapping endpoint, that is if they truly were on top of each other. I would get a dialog box when selecting two endpoints and pressing cmd+j where I could choose either smooth or corner.
    Now in Illustrator CS6 I do not get any dialog box no matter what I do and it always joins the two endpoints as corner even thoug they both started out as smooth - that is had both their arms. Is there another way to do this now?

    Well ... since I use "Average and join" all the time and very seldom only "Join" I just switched the shortcuts, so now Join has the 4-keys shortcut.
    Actually I can't think of a time I needed the corner join. Most of the time I use Pen Tool, and join paths with that, and with corner joins I just remove any excess points, but with more difficult smooth path constructions I find I often need the smooth join.
    I never figured why one can't select more than one arm like you can select more than one point ... it would make altering symetric paths symetrically so much easier.

  • Referenced join path ___ does not have table '$2$' as endpoint

    Hi,
    We are trying to make one of our first views. I joined the schema in attach.
    The first part is a join between 3 tables: FMIFIIT and 2 dependent tables for further information.
    For the second part I made an analytical view on FMIFIIT making totals based on 3 secondary key fields.
    I would like to join the first view with the second one, so I can add total amounts to every detail line.
    But I always get an error when  activating the analytical view:
    <detail>
      <element>cubeSchema -> cubes -> cube (_SYS_BIC:kul.testing.kcl/AN_FMIFIIT_2/olap) -> characteristics -> dimension (BLDAT)</element>
      <code>41</code>
      <message>Referenced join path 'DATA_SLT_D11220:FMIFIHD' does not have table '$2$' as endpoint</message>
      </detail>
    I seems as if all 3 tables need to be fact-tables, and as I look at the definition that is not the case:
    <cubeTables>
      <cubeTable name="DATA_SLT_D11220:FMIFIHD" type="d-table"/>
      <cubeTable name="DATA_SLT_D11220:FMIFIIT" type="f-table"/>
      <cubeTable name="DATA_SLT_D11220:PRPS" type="d-table"/>
    </cubeTables>
    Is this 'TYPE' influenced by the presence of measures in it? And do all tables need to have measures in it?
    <measures>
      <measure name="FKBTR" table="DATA_SLT_D11220:FMIFIIT" column="FKBTR" aggregationType="sum" isVisible="true"/>
      <calculatedMeasure name="TOTBEDRAG" aggregationType="sum" isVisible="true" calculateBeforeAggregation="false" datatype="fixed" length="13" scale="2">
      <formula>"FKBTR"</formula>
      </calculatedMeasure>
      <calculatedMeasure name="BEDRAG54" aggregationType="sum" isVisible="true" calculateBeforeAggregation="false" datatype="fixed" length="13" scale="2">
      <formula>if("WRTTP"=''54'',"FKBTR",0)</formula>
      </calculatedMeasure>
      <calculatedMeasure name="BEDRAG57" aggregationType="sum" isVisible="true" calculateBeforeAggregation="false" datatype="fixed" length="13" scale="2">
      <formula>if("WRTTP"=''57'',"FKBTR",0)</formula>
      </calculatedMeasure>
    </measures>
    Can anyone advice on how I can solve this issue? It might be a issue with my design.

    Hi Kris,
    Did you manage to resolve this? I'm getting the same error now. Can you help me out of this...

  • Joining paths chronologically (endpoint of objects with startpoint of the above insteadof automatic detection)

    Just like the topic says, is there a way (scripting?) to join paths (i think of about 100-500 of more or less detailed vector scribbles) by connecting every endpoint to the startpoint of the following object above?

    Would be great. Sure, i'll try.
    1) You see the original scribble, 4 brush strokes, every stroke beginning in the bottom and directed to top-right.
    2) The result of selecting strokes > right-click > join produces automatically detected path, connecting the nearest (?) anchors.
    3) What it should be: end-point of the first stroke should join with start-point of second and so on.
    Would this be possible? This would save enormous amounts of time while animating paths in after effects.

  • How to join two open endpoints?

    How to join two open endpoints?
    I keep getting this error message even though the endpoints do not have this: "To join, you must select two open endpoints. If they are not the same path, they cannot be on text paths nor inside graphs, and if both of them are grouped, they must be in the same group."
    I've ungrouped everything.
    I've tried using the pen tool to manually join.
    I've moved the endpoint, then tried joining them.
    I've tried command+J.
    Same message everytime.
    And if I use the Pathfinder, I'll get unwanted results (i.e. a new path going right though the art)
    What's going on!?

    blueribb,
    While uploading an AI file is unsorted, you may consider at least one option:
    One is that you have at least one hidden extra Anchor Point, either on one of the paths or as stray or belonging to a third path.
    You may find out by:
    1) Using the Direct Selection Tool to click, not drag over, both end Anchor Point and then Cmd+J, and/or
    2) Using the Direct Selection Tool to click, not drag over, each end Anchor Point by itself and then move it a bit.

  • Draw non-joined lines from endpoint of existing lines

    I asked on the general AI forum how to draw lines from existing line endpoints without the two being joined, and I got the answer that you can't. So I think this calls for a feature request: give the user the possibility to draw a line at the endpoint of a pre-existing line without joining the two. Up till now the current functionality has two drawbacks for me:
    1. It makes creating the following pulse diagram a PITA:
    When I draw a line starting from the arrowhead the arrowhead moves to the new endpoint. Here I had to draw the new line elsewhere on my page and drag it over the arrow.
    2. If you draw a line to the end of an existing line in a group it gets automatically joined to it, and thus becomes part of that group, even when you're not working in isolation mode. Again I have to draw my line at another place on the page and drag it to the grouped object afterwards.
    So, feature request: allow lines sharing a common end- and start point without being joined.

    This is not the ability of usual flex classes. You should explore on how the 3D coordinates system of Flex works, and learn some classes usability, such as Matrix3D, for example.

    Hi Bob,
    Sorry for my delay.
    Based on your description, I understand that you have verified port 65500 was opened on server. Meanwhile,
    be unable to browse https://acesrv01:65500/CertWebservice.svc
    on client. If I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Based on current situation, please check Windows Firewall profile. Windows Firewall profile may block access
    to the CertWebservice.svc website. Please disabled Windows Firewall profile on server and then monitor the result.
    Hope this helps.

  • New 2012 R2 domain - xp clients cannot join or print

    I just migrated a 2003  domain to 2012 R2.   Things were working ok & then XP clients became AD stupid.
    Steps I took:
    Added a VM 2012 R2 DC to the domain.  Server had DNS installed.  Ran dcdiag & bpa and resolved any issues.
    About a week later I moved all roles over to the VM DC.
    Tore down one of the NT2003 DCs (not VM) and rebuit it as a 2012 R2 DC w/DNS.  Ran dcdiag & bpa and resolved any issues.   Had problems with DNS scavenging removing some static records.  readded records & made sure the  "Delete
    record when it becomes stale" was unchecked on all static records (all fwd & rev zones).
    Moved all roles from the VM DC to the hardware DC.
    After a week I tore down the 2nd (& last) nt2003 DC (not VM) and rebuilt it as a 2012 R2 DC w/DNS.  Ran dcdiag/bpa and fixed any issues.  Also ran it on the other DCs.
    Removed the VM 2012 R2 DC from the domain (demote, remove features, remove from domain, power off, delete VM).
    Everything seems to be working fine.  dcdiags look clean, event logs seem good.
    Bump forest/domain to 2012 R2 native.
    Then, a few days later,  it goes bad.  I (after hours) install all accumulated updates on both DCs.  Reboot both.
    Next AM a user calls.  Her thin client cannot connect to the terminal services server.  DNS has deleted its dns record, even though the delete when stale was unchecked.  :|  So I readd the static record and turn off scavenging.
    Problem solved.
    Next call s from a XP user (we have XP, Win 7, and thin clients).  She cannot print.  Printers show "cannot connect".  Try various things to no avail.  Check Win 7 boxes and they're working fine & printers are connected.
    Note that the XP & Win7 boxes all pull their DHCP address from the same dhcp server/scope.
    Review error logs and run dcdiag.  There are several somewhat esoteric errors.  After several hours or tail chasing I decide to take a more scorched earth tack.  I demote the 2nd DC and remove AD & DNS from it. After demotion and role
    removal I check AD and it still shows the DC.  I remove the now just a server from the domain.  Clean up DNS & AD removing all traces.  This takes a while as I have to run variuos scripts (tahnk you google) to ensure AD is clean.
    Run dcdiag and resolve issues.  Even a detailed dcdiag comes out clean.  Replication tests show the old server is now forgotten.
    Check XP boxes and they still show printers as "cannot connect".
    Remove a XP PC from the domain.  Try to rejoin and I get a error.  Rename it and still get the error.  I can ping, nslookup, etc and they return the correct IP.
    I've tried the simple change the join a domain in system properties.  That gives a somewht non descript error.  The network identification wizard seemed to find the domain but didn't work.  As it was trying to find the PC in AD, I went ahead
    and added it via AD users& Computer console.  Run the wizard and it tells me it found the record in AD.  It then says "a domain controller for the domain [ourdomain] could not be contacted."  !?  Yet the prior screen it told
    me it had found the record for the PC on the DC.
    nslookup for ourdomain.local as well as dcname.ourdomain.local resolve correctly.  Tried chenging the PC to static - no change.  Rename the old win 2012 R2 dc (now just a server outside the domain), reboot, and the try to rejoin the domain.
    Works flawlessly.
    BTW - We're running tcpip w/o netbios over tcpip.
    So basically my XP boxes cannot use AD printers and cannot join the domain.  IDK if they're picking up gp updates (I'll check in the AM), but I suspect they're not.
    Short of buying a truckload of Win 7 licenses and reloading OSs, what can I do to fix this?

    As you can see, it is pointing to 8.8.8.8. You need to make sure that public DNS servers are configured as forwarders and not in IP setting of your DCs. Better if you could use your ISP DNS servers as public ones instead of 8.8.8.8.

    The trunks are configured with REFER off and MediaBypass Off.
    We have recently moved to a direct SIP trunk from a vendor on Microsoft's Certified list.
    Lync version is 2010, with the latest CUs applied.  All other calling appears to be working correctly.  The certificate on the servers are using the SHA1 algorithm (I have seen some similar issues discussed if this was not the case.)
    At this point, I have reached the end of my immediate troubleshooting skills with this system.  Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what might be going on here?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
    Please check if the default gateway associated to the Mediation Server is up or not.
    Please check if Media traffic on the Gateway be blocked with the issue of wrong encryption. Make sure it is using SRTP (not RTP). If you use RTP, please change it and then test again.

  • Can't Join Windows Intune from Windows 8.1

    I have an intune account for my company and we used to have Intune Endpoint Protection on Windows 8, I have installed Windows 8.1 and I found out that I cant install the client but I have to join a workplace from the PC Settings, everytime I try to enter
    my e-mail address it gives me this message:
    Confirm that you are using the correct sign-in info, and that your workplace use this feature. Also, the connection to your workplace might not be working right now. Please wait and try again.
    I can sign in to the web without any problem, is there anybody that has an idea of how this work on Windows 8.1?

    Hi,
    You can install the client on Windows 8.1 or use the "Turn On" feature under networking.  That feature uses the Mobile Device Management feature so you'll need to have your management authority for mobile devices set to Windows Intune.  You'll
    also need to have a DNS Alias setup for your public domain to ensure proper redirection to our enrollment server.
    If you want to use the client you'll need to download it from the Admin Console as we do not provide it in the Company Portal website for 8.1
    Thanks.

  • Joining line paths in CS5

    Hi,
    I am working on a line art project and trying to figure out how to join an endpoint on one path to another path. Here is pic of what I am trying to do:
    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/862/screenshot20111215at150.png/
    Is there a way to join a line to the middle of another line and keep the line styles? Right now some of my paths end abruptly in a square end, but how do I joint them together? I tried using the "join" command, but that requires 2 endpoints.

    Spinky,
    It seems that in this case you may give the chin/cheek paths white fills and extend the troublesome paths, keeping them underneath the others; if that is not too cheeky.

  • Why can't I use the Average and Join commands in an action?

    Something I do a hundred times a day is select two endpoints, average them, and join them. I tried to make an action and map it to an Fkey, but Illustrator won't allow the Average or Join commands in an action. When I tried using the Insert Menu Command, it made Illustrator crash. Finally I managed to do it without Illustrator crashing, but there is then no way to hit "OK" in the Average dialog box via the Actions palette. Why is this apparently impossible?

    You have to use Actions Palette Flyout menu  >> insert menu item to get those menu items reocorded.
    To get action to stop crashing you need to Actions Palette Flyout menu >> Playback Options >> 1 sec or greater.
    There already are keyboard commands CMD J & OPT CMD J for these. Unfotunately you cannot record for example the next menu choice step such as BOTH.  A script likely could be written for this though, and you can try posting in the Illustrator scripting forum.

  • Convert/join multiple file formats (doc, pdf, text) into 1 single PDF/A using web services

    We would like to purchase LiveCycle for the PDF Generator feature, but we want to know if it will meet our technical requirements.
    We would like to convert a PDF, an HTML, a DOCX, and some custom text into 1 single PDF/A. Basically: joining 3 different files types and some text into 1 very long PDF/A file. Can we do this type of join?
    Also, we would like to install LiveCycle on a central server and then call a web service or use an API where we can input the 3 different files and the text and as output we would get 1 PDF/A back. Obviously there might be intermediary steps, but in essence we need to be able to do this conversion from our custom code by calling some LiveCycle API.
    Thanks!

    You can use Assembler service with PDFGenerator. There is support for Web Service endpoints(SOAP). Please go through this for details : http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/11.0/Overview/lc_overview_ds.pdf

  • Joining two paths: fill problems

    Hello,
    I am having the following problem: I have a path entailing a simple closed curve
    but when I try to fill the color won't extend to the whole area. To reproduce the
    problem:
    1. With the Ellipse Tool draw a circle.
    2. In the Paths panel click Add Points twice to add points to the circle.
    3. In the Paths panel click Knife On Points to yield individual segments.
    4. Here we create two paths by leaving out two nonadjacent segments.
      4a. Shift click four segments and then in the Path Panel click Join Paths to piece them together.
      4b. Shift click four other segments and then in the Path Panel tool click Join Paths to piece them together.
      4c. Delete the nonadjacent segments from the paths list under the given layer.
    5. Ctrl-Shift click two of the endpoints in one of the two segments and click Join Points in the Paths panel.
    6.Try to fill the area. The fill color won't extend.
    What am I doing wrong? Or is this a bug? How do I work around this problem?
    Thanks,
    John Goche
    Fireworks CS4 on Windows 7.

    Hi John,
    Thank you for your replies, I found them helpful, although I still think
    the options 1 and 2 come down to a bit of buggy code which hopefully
    will be fixed in the following releases unless someone can explain why
    it behaves that way, perhaps I am missing something about paths and fills.
    I wouldn't say there's anything buggy going on, but the way you are building a vector object is definitely not typical and reveals some awkward/confusing behavior. The important thing to understand is that:
    1. A fill is rendered from a contour, which is a series of connected points
    2. A standard "Path" has a single contour, for example an ellipse
    3. A "Compound Path" has multiple contours, and it renders each contour like a filled path, and adds/subtracts from the final result based on overlapping areas per a vector "fill rule" (which can be toggled in the Path panel) -- this is just like Illustrator and other vector environments
    4. Join Paths' behavior when points are not selected is to create a compound path from multiple existing paths -- ie if you have two paths, both with 1 contour, then you end up with a compound path with 2 contours -- NOT a path with a single merged/stitched together contour. (Conversely, Split Paths will separate each contour of a compound path into its own path.)
    5. Like Anita said, Union Paths will actually merge paths, though it's not so much looking at points and merging points as it's looking at fills and merging overlapping areas, creating/deleting points as needed
    So basically, you have to remember that if you want a continuous fill from multiple paths you are about to join, you have to make sure the points are actually connected in your final result. It's not enough to simply have 2 points that are close or even directly on each other then perform "Join Paths". Fortunately there are lots of ways to merge points to create a continous contour:
    1. Select 2 endpoints with the Subselect tool and this will tell Join Paths to merge them if they are on top of each other, or connect them -- in both cases you end up with a continous contour which will be filled
    2. Select an endpoint and drag it over another endpoint and release -- FW will snap them together and merge them
    3. Select 2 endpoints or multiple adjacent points and use Weld Points in the Path panel
    Applying all that to the situation of creating a symmetrical vector (which I do a fair amount myself), you could:
    1. Draw your first half
    2. Duplicate or clone and mirror
    3. Position the mirrored clone where you want it
    4. Select the endpoints you want connected and use Weld Points or Join Points
    You'll end up with a fully filled shape.
    That turned out pretty long-winded but hopefully it clears some things up!
    Cheers.
