Join meeting using Lync Web App resolves to internal

Vanilla Lync deployment: 1 FE (Standard Edition), 1 Edge, 1 Reverse Proxy (IIS 8, ARR 3.0), 1 Office Web Apps Server
When I send out a meeting invitation to an external user and they click on Join Meeting, the resulting link "Join Using Lync Web App Instead" points to my FE server.
I've got the External web services FQDN defined in Topology Builder:
'lyncweb.domain.com', but when I go to install Lync Web App, it says it can't find 'lyncfe.domain.local'
Looking at the URL for the 'Join Using Lync Web App instead' I see:
My reverse proxy has server farms set up that all point to my FE server, as prescribed.
Another issue I think is related: I have 2 simple URLs listed for meetings: meet.domain.com AND meet.domain.local; both show as active. Do I need the internal URL? If not, I can't remove it. I tried but after I highlight it and click on remove, it just puts
a red box around the field and greys out the OK button.
So I thought, maybe that's because I have 'domain.local' defined as a SIP domain. So I checked there and, yes, I do. And it's the
Default SIP domain. I have 'domain.com' listed as an additional SIP domain.
I thought about changing the default to 'domain.com' but found an article (http://lyncuc.blogspot.com/2014/04/change-default-sip-domain-in-lync.html) which says DON'T DO
IT.
So...?
"Never, ever doubt what nobody is sure about." -Willy Wonka

Confirm that the External Web Services FQDN for the Lync Front End pool is not defined anywhere else in the topology, must be unique. Seen people use the same FQDN as their Edge server.
Confirm External Web Service FQDN is on the SAN list for the Reverse Proxy Certificate and the Lync Front End Certificate.

  • External Meetings using Lync Web App vs Lync 2013 Desktop client

We have LYNC Server 2013 deployed on premise. Our clients are LYNC 2013. When someone external to our organization sends us a Lync meeting request we are able to connect with our Lync 2012 desktop client but only Audio is available. We cannot share
the desktop. If however we connect to the external meeting using the Lync Web App (by specifying
?sl=1 at the end of the meeting url) we are able to use all the services like audio, desktop sharing etc.
I've found the following articles that suggest that the desktop clients are not the preferred choice to connect to external meetings.

Can anyone advise as to why the desktop clients are restrictive and if there is a fix and if not how can we force users to use the Lync Web App to connect to external meetings?
Our lync 2013 desktop clients use the following ports:
    PS C:\Users\am03744ad> Get-CsConferencingConfiguration

You should be fine using the full Lync client, it's not restricted by default.  If there's an issue, it's typically in the networking related to your edge, or the edge of the organization you're federating with.
The reason the web client is preferred by many (not all, and that's not an official Microsoft stance), is simply that if everyone uses the web client, it's a consistent experience for the attendees and you don't have to worry about the status of attendee's Lync
    environment or federation.
Can your external users share a desktop with internal users?  Can they do it externally in a conference hosted by you?  Can the remote organization share desktops with you when connected to your conferences?  And in these conferences,
have the marked you as presenter so you can present your desktop?
There's no good way to automatically force users to use the web app each time unfortunately.  The other organization would need to hardcode that ?sl=1 into each meeting invite sent.

  • (Lync 2013) Lync Web App: Call ended because of network connectivity issues

I'm having a very strange problem with Lync Web App. When I try to join a meeting, it works in the following conditions:
    - With the Lync 2013 windows client: always (internal network, external network)
    - Lync Web App:  Works in internal network. When I'm on an external network, I'm able to join a meeting, but when Lync Web App tries to establish the call, it ends with the error: "Call ended because of network connectivity issues".
On the other hand, IM works with Lync Web App (internal/external network). But all the other features (presentation, audio call, video call) are not working.
Did anyone experience such an issue ?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

    Hi,
Since the issue only happen on Lync web app that was handled by reverse proxy. The issue maybe related to RP configuration. Please refer to one of the following links to check if the RP configuration are correct.

  • Accessing Shared OneNote from Lync Web App

When attempting to access a OneNote that has been shared in a Lync Meeting via Lync Web App, users are taken to OneDrive in a separate browser window and get an error that they do not have permissions to access the notes or that the notes do not exist.  Going
to OneDrive I understand since the OneNote notebook is hosted on OneDrive (instead of Sharepoint), but I don't understand the permission error.
How are Lync Web App users supposed to access shared OneNotes without the presenter granting individual permissions to the notebook?  That method is too time consuming and not intuitive for end users.
Mac users rely on accessing OneNotes via Lync Web App and OneDrive (OneNote Online) since there isn't a OneNote client for Mac and most of the time they will be joining meetings via Lync Web App instead of the 2011 client.

It is not on Lync Web App side to control this behavior.
You need permission to access the shared OneNote on OneDrive.
You need to sign in even without Lync Web App.

  • Lync Web App no sound and couldn't see shared desktop

    Hi,
Today I tried to join a scheduled meeting which I've done may times before without any problem.
I was let into the meeting but had no sound and couldn't see the shared presentation. I could see other participants and see typed messages. There was a button in the middle of the screen 'Participate in the sharing session by clicking Rejoin'
    Clicking the button did nothing.
The options button was telling me I had no Audio device. I did and it works correctly.
I'm using Win 7 and IE 11 but I also tried on Firefox and had the same issue.
I noted that despite using the Lync App many times, when I joined the meeting the App was either missing or wanted to update and I let this happen.
Any ideas what may be the issue here?

    Hi There,
Thanks a lot for reporting this issue. And I am sorry that you are hitting this issue while attending Lync meetings. Following details will help us diagnose it further -
    1) Do you have Lync 2010 or Lync 2013 client installed on the machine?
    2) Do you get this issue again and again when you join the meeting or it was one-off?
    3) When you killed "Lync Web App" from task manager, was audio flowing through even after that? Were you still attending the meeting from the browser?
    4) How much time did you wait when UI was showing "Loading" until you killed the Lync Web App from task manager?
    Thanks.

  • Only Guest users with Lync Web App

    Hello!
I would like to allow just "Guest" users when they use the Lync Web App 2013. Is there anyway from Lync Server side to configure this?
Now it pops-up the user & password authentication, and I want to restrict the users to use only Anonymous access when they join to a Conference. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance! :D

    Hi,
You can change the publishing rule to block “Join using your corporate credentials” option. For details:

  • Lync Web App will not load and does not error out

    Hi,
Recently I've been receiving invites to Lync 15 meetings. I am able to join the meetings and things work fine until somebody shares their desktop or a presentation. Then I get a message saying Windows firewall has blocked an app and asks if I want
to allow the Lync Web App to run. I click OK and it appears to begin loading. The app doesn't load, I can still hear audio on the meeting but all the rest of the Lync app freezes except for the spinning circle wheel telling me it is loading.
When I look in Task Manager, I can see the Lync Web App running with a steady stream of I/O. But the entire Lync meeting will not render. If I kill the Lync Web App from Task Manager, then the Lync meeting immediately works.
System: Win 7 pro 64, IE 9, AMD Athalon dual core chip, 4 GB RAM, tons of disk space, DSL 700K connection
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    JAS.

  • Lync2013: Lync Web App sign in as guest

Lync Web App sign is as guest is returning the following error:
"There was an error in joining you into the meeting. Please contact your support team."
& I'm seeing this error being generated on the Lync server:

    Hi MikeMerkato,
Please check the anonymous access settings and conference policies.
    AllowAnonymousParticipantsInMeetings:
Indicates whether anonymous users are allowed to participate in the meeting. If set to False then only authenticated users (that is, users logged on to your Active Directory
Domain Services or the Active Directory of a federated partner) are allowed to attend the meeting. The default value is True.
This setting applies to the user who organizes the conference: if set to False, no conference created by a user affected by this policy will allow anonymous participants. However, the
user can take part in other conferences where anonymous participants are allowed.

  • Install Lync Web App Plugin For Another User

I'm wondering if there is a way to install the plugin for the Lync Web App for another user. The reason why is that administrative permissions are required and our users are not allowed to have those permissions. I have the MSI but when I look at it, it
    says
"Cannot install [ProductName].Setting the AllUsers property is not allowed because [ProductName] is a per-user application."
Is there a way that I can install the MSI, maybe through the command line or another method, and specify another user so it installs to their profile?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    This is typically achieved by allowing exceptions in your software control strategy for the required executable;
    LWAPlugin.exe
    LWAVersionPlugin.exe
    AppSharingHookController.exe
    AppSharingHookController64.exe
This typically occurs in VDI deployments where users are not able to install software onremote server, so the above rule is added to the Software Restriction Policy (providing that's what you're using to control application installation).
I'm not familiar with any associated cmd line switches I'm afraid.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • Using office web apps with SharePoint 2013

    Hi,
I would like to use office web apps in our SharePoint 2013 environment. I would like to know if OWA has to have a dedicated server or can I install it on the SharePoint 2013 app server.
    Sherazad

With SharePoint 2013, Office Web Apps cannot be installed on the SharePoint Server, it must be installed on its own server, not shared with any other IIS-based service (it essentially "takes over" IIS).

  • Can i use office web app server without adding to a domain ?

spserver.local is my domain controller webapp.spsserver.local is my office web app server(OWA)(IP:79.123.161.xxx )
I manage to use office web app with sharepoint 2013 my OWA is in a domain (spserver.local) and it's address is http://webapp.spserver.local/hosting/discovery There
is no problem. But I want to seperate OWA with Sharepoint and its domain I want to remove the domain. Is it possible?
For example my OWA's ip is 79.123.161.xxx
I want to work like this: http://79.123.161.xxx/hosting/discovery
When I enter the path http://79.123.161.xxx/hosting/discovery there
is an iis message "File or directory not found."

Are you asking if you can have your OWA in different domain compared to SharePoint server domain or are you asking that your OWA does not belong to any domain and you still want to use it with SharePoint?
If your question is regarding using OWA in different domain then I think (someone can correct me if I am wrong) OWA can run into different domain. You just need to add your SharePoint Server host domain to the Allow List for an Office Web Apps Server farm.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219459.aspx
If your question is related to OWA not belonging to any domain then I do not think that will work and its not supported scenario. If you read the following article it states
"All servers in the Office Web Apps Server farm must be part of a domain. They can be in the same domain (recommended) or in domains that are in the same forest. However, Office Web Apps Server won’t work if you try to install it on a domain controller."

  • Windows Server 2008 (TS) and Lync Web App installation failure

    Hey folks,
I've run into a little big problem due the Lync Web App installation via mstsc on a stand alone Terminal Server 2008 SP2 64 Bit. When I tried to install the Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user I get the message:
    "The system administrator has
set up a policy that the installation
    prevents"
    Till that it's just fine.
The next thing I did is to disable the UAC and DEP, but same problem as above. I also tried to extract the install EXE for the MSI packages to allow the installation. But did not work.
After I searched the internet for an answer relating to this problem I've had to create or change a RegEdit entry. So I switched to the registry to:
    HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
and created a DWORD entry DisableMSI and set it to 0. Then I tried the installation of Lync Web App Plugin via
mstsc and standard user again and this message appeared:
"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2755"
Now the curious thing is, that when I am logged on locally, the standard user is able to install the Lync Web App Plugin. And it works fine. After the installation is complete I can switch to mstsc again and it works.
The only thing what doesn't work is to install Lync Web App Plugin via mstsc into the user profile.
    Any suggestions?

Before you install the application, change your user mode to installation mode.
You can run the following command with Prompt Command:
    Change user /install
After the application is installed, change back to execution mode, you can do so by running the following command:
    Change User /Execute

  • Using Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA ? Possible?

Using Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA ? Possible?
We recently upgraded from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
The links that used OWA Web parts have completely stopped working and generate the " :( something went wrong contact your help desk" screen for domain Authenticated users other than myself. The links accessed content of a Shared Account of which
I am an owner and can set the necessary permissions using the Outlook 2013 client.
Using the example from the link provided below we were able to provide calendar access to all authenticated users in our area. The link for calendar still works for me but for noone else. Additionally, all navigation menus are missing when I use this link.
    <server>/owa/<SMTP address>/?cmd=contents&module=calendar&view=weekly name
Another crafted link provided web access to our group's task list. This has completely stopped working for anyone including myself. However, when I use "open another mailbox" I am able to navigate to the needed pages.
    <server name>/owa/<SMTP address>/?cmd=contents&module=tasks
These links were crafted using advice provided from this provided link.

Is it still possible to use Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013 - OWA?
    Or
Is this a misconfiguration of some sort?
My IT support has given up and closed out the ticket stating that maybe Microsoft will fix this someday...

    Hello,
At present, there is no official article to verify whether we can use Outlook Web App Web Parts in Exchange Server 2013. In exchange online, the Outlook Web App Parts is supported.

Hi, you said this feature is supported in Exchange Online (I understand you're referring to Office 365). Can you please point me to some documentation as I was trying to use it with my E3 account and it doesn't seem to work?
What I'm trying to acomplish is something similar to our old URL (Exchange 2010) in Office 365:
    https://ourserver.mydomain.com/owa/[email protected]/?cmd=contents&module=calendar&view=monthly
The best I can do in Office 365 is this:
    https://outlook.com/owa/mydomain.com/[email protected]/#path=/calendar
But it's clearly not the same and Office 365 ignores all the information I add to the URL. I would greatly appreciate something in the line of the document referred by 'MarquetteENG' (technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232199(v=exchg.141).aspx)
    Thanks.
