Join (not) Through Edit

I used the 'Range Selection Tool to cut out a piece of a clip and now I have a bisected clip which I'd like to join together again.
I see that if I used the Blade tool to do a through edit I could control click on the edit point and choose 'Join Through Edit.'
Is there an equivalent method for rejoining clips cut in ways other than straight through?
Thanks.

I don't know of a way to select multiple edit points simultaneously, but a faster way of "joining through" and edit point is to use the keyboard instead of the mouse.
Option-click the Auto-Select box on the video track where you want to remove edit points, this should deselect all other video Auto-Selects. Then starting from the beginning of your timeline, press the down arrow key until you get to your first edit point you want to remove, press V (Select Edit), then Delete to remove the edit point.

    Hi -
Instead of using the drop down menu, just select the through edit point and hit delete.
    Hope this helps.

  • Joining Through Edits In Premiere Pro

SOrry, this is more of a tech question, but does anyone know how to join 2 clips that have been split with the razor? ie when its a thru edit in FCP you can just delete the cut between them and it joins the 2 together again.
And the other question, is it possible to select more than one layer stacked vertically and move them all at the same time? ie moving multible video layers/tracks or scaling multiple tracks..?

    Right Steven,
You can now join through edits in your clips using the new Join Through Edits feature.
In the Timeline panel, select the edit points in your clip that you want to join. Then, right-click (Win) or Ctrl-click (Mac) the selected edit points and select Join Through Edits from the context menu.
Through edit indicators are displayed on extraneous edits that do not cause a break in the original frame sequence of the clip. When you use Join Through Edits for a through edit, Premiere Pro heals the cut and recreates a longer clip from the contiguous parts.

  • Merging video clips -- join through edit

I was trying to solidify a video that is composed of numerous smaller parts by using the "Join through edit" feature. I am able to do it from time to time, but generally it is grayed out. Does this have anything to do with the way that the files are accessed, or the nature of the video itself?
Not sure why I can do it sometimes and not others. Working with 20 short clips was fine when I wanted to edit them one by one, but now that I'm done I wanted to merge them into a single longer clip.

Are you sure you want to "join through edit"? Perhaps you are wanting to nest your clips?
A through edit is an edit added to a continuous piece of media. By default, FCP will display red triangles on either side of the edit. When you select the edit point (not the clip), you can select "join through edit" (KB shortcut = delete). If the option does not show up (is grayed out), then the two adjoining clips are not part of continuous timecode within the same master clip.
But it sounds like you want to create one long "clip" in your timeline from all the little clips. Select all the clips you want to include and Sequence -> Nest Items (shortcut = opt-C)

  • Undoing a through edit.

    Greetings.
This is probably the most basic ?, but I can't get it to work.
    FCE 3.5.1
I am trying to delete an edit that I made with the razor blade tool. With the select (pointer) tool, I select the edit that I want to remove, and then right click (control) and I see that "Join through edit" is grayed out. I've looked through the manual Page 426. There is something about "Auto Select".
The odd thing is, I got the above to work one time, but I can't remember what I did. I think I did the same thing, but it just won't let me remove the edit. Going crazy.
    Your help appreciated as ussual.

    Tom,
Thanks. I was trying to remove a non-contiguous cut. Is there a way to "join" a series of edits so that a series of clips (contigous, or not) can be handled as a group.
Actually I think my question should be: can I "lock" a group of clips (sequentially) together? i.e. a short sequence of say six clips. If you click on any one of them in timeline, it would select all six? Does this make sense?
I looked under Arrange in the View menu and it looks like there is not an option for this.
    Thanks again.

  • Configure "Always hide forms document message bar" and "Do not show edit warnings" for all users?

We need to do a mass deployment of Adobe Reader XI 11.0.3 with "Always hide forms document message bar" preference setting automatically set for every user so they do not have to go through the menu and set it manually.
Is there a way to configure this for all users with the customization wizard or another method?
We also need to do the same for "Do not show edit warnings"
If these are registry keys, which registry keys set these options?

    Try http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/PrefRef/Windows/DocumentStatus.html?zoom _highlight=message#idkeyname_1_5647.
If that doesn't work and there's a configuration item in the preferences UI, do this:
    Get regshot.
    Close everything but Acrobat/Reader.
    Take a reg shot.
Configure the setting via the UI.
    Tak another reg shot.
    Compare the two.
That process will give you your answer.
If there is no corresponding pref in the UI, then you probably can't do it.

  • PSE not saving edited files to the organiser

For no apparent reason my PSE 11 application seems to have developed an annoying glitch whereby part way through an editing process it stops doing as requested in the "Save" options, by not saving edited files as version sets of the original file in the Organiser. The files are saved OK to My Pictures and I then get advised that a file is available to import and I have to import each one, stack it with the original, and put the edited file on top. This is driving me nuts as I have about 1000 photos to edit. What is causing this problem? My only thoughts are that I have c.30000 picture files in the Organiser (but this hasn't caused any problems in adding new files)  and that the problem seems to have arisen since I started editing files directly from within an Album.
    Help

It's the first time I see that bug mentionned in PSE11, but it's an acknowledged bug in PSE12.

  • "Join" Objects through Webservices

I'm trying to find a fast way to join objects through webservices.
    What do I need?
-An extract of the recipients from a campaign joined with contacts
    What do I have?
-I have an extract of the recipients of the campaign...
    What's left?
-No I have the ID's of the contacts and I could get the information of the contacts 1 by 1. This means if I have 100 recipients, that I have 101 webservice calls.
    My question?
Is there a way to get all the contacts with 1 webservice call, containg the needed info from recipients?

Probably not, Campign - Contact is Many-to-Many relationship. You can query contacts where 'SourceCampaignName' field equals some camagin, but it not the same that you want.

  • Lightroom desktop is not pulling edits made using app

I have edited a number of images using Adobe LR Mobile, they have been synced with the cloud and the changes can be seen in the cloud (when i log in to Lightroom via a web browser). the problem is the desktop application is not pulling the changes back. Please advise as i cant go through editing all the pictures again on my desktop.

Could you try to remove the sync.lrdata file and restart LrD. This would restart/refresh the sync (metadata only).
Removing the Sync.lrdata might fix whatever the issue is.  Or, at least, might trigger it to occur again. So remove the Sync.lrdata, start Lr, and then wait until it either syncs or gets stuck again and create at this point a Lr Desktop diagnostic log which can hopefully provide some clues.
You can find the  sync.lrdata file here:
    On Mac it's at /Users/<user>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data/Sync.lrdata
On Win it would be at C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata
You can trigger the diagnostig log via LR Desktop preferences -> Lightroom Mobile and when you hold down the alt key you will notice a generate diagnostic log button
If you stilll see the issue please send me a the diagnostig log  - best as a private message with a downloadable dropbox link.

  • LR4 Problem: The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched.

Is there a fix for this?  When I try to edit an image in Photoshop from Lightroom 4 (CTRL+E), Photoshop CS6 launches immediately but with no image.  In Lightroom 4, after about two minutes, the message box appears saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CS6 could not be launched."  When I click OK, the image promptly opens in Photoshop CS6 like normal.  This wan an itermittent issue for me after the LR4.1 release.  I was hoping that LR4.2 would help, but now I get the error every time.
    System
    Lightroom 4.2 x64
    Photoshop CS6 v13.0.1 x64
    Bridge 5.0.1.23 x64
    Windows 7 Pro x64
AMD Six Core / 3.9 Ghz
    16 GB Memory
    NVidia Quadro 1 Gb Video
    Scratch space on three drives

This may be a cooincidence, I starting having problems after I started using a Nikon D800, which has 36MP files.  LR4 released at the same time as the D800.  LR4 shows signs of struggling with the larger files, which are typically 280MB TIFFs for the D800, like freezing for several seconds when using an adjustment brush or going into a spasm with the crop tool.  Because Photoshop does not have similar large file issues, I'm doing more basic work in Photoshop, like cropping, dodge and burn, exposure adjustment, etc.
Because Photoshop otherwise runs fine, and appears to read all the prefernes properly mid-issue, to get a better idea of what's going on, I turned on Process Monitor from Technet. For what it's worth, LR4 appears to touch the Photoshop preferences before it launches Photoshop.  LR4 must have a memory leak in that corrupts the Photoshop preferences file in a way that makes no difference to Photoshop.
My weekend project is to try Capture One to see if I can spend more time on photography and less troubleshooting Adobe problems.  As it stands, LR4 is not usable for me.

  • Lightroom 5.6 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

I upgraded to lightroom 5.6 recently and i am using photoshop cs 6.
My OS is windows 8 on i5 4670 with R280X gfx card 16gb ram
After editing a photo with lightroom , when I right click to edit in photoshop, immediately photoshop launch but the image isnt imported to photoshop.
After like 30sec  an error message pop out saying "The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched".
After another 10sec then the photo appear in photoshop... this is getting irritating to me.
if i select to just open the original or a copy of the original it works fine. It only happens when I try to open it with lightroom changes.
I had uninstall/reinstall both photoshop and lightroom as well as remove all the plugins i had, but the problem doesnt go away.
Another issue with lightroom 5.6 is the the adjustment brush is slow and sluggish, it is so unusable when I zoom in to use the adjustment brush.
I didnt had that issue before i upgraded. OMG
anyone have solution to my problem ?

I upgraded to the latest version of ps cc 2014 , problem resolved.

  • Photoshop won't open LR 5 file when I send through "edit in"

I have Photoshop CC with Lightroom 5 and Photoshop.  I also have PSE 9 and am trying to move away from using PSE 9 to all Photoshop.  However, I am so frustrated that when I "edit in Photoshop CC" it won't always open up in Photoshop.  The Photoshop screen will come up but my file won't appear.  Sometimes, minutes later, I then get an error in LR saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 could not be launched."  so I click okay and then all of the sudden the photo appears in Photoshop.  But not even then consistently do I get that message.  Arghs!
Any idea how to fix? I've been googling and found a suggestion to send the file as a tiff versus a psd so I switched that in my preferences screen which seemed to help at first but now it doesn't anymore.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Oh my! That totally worked! Opened like a charm after the uninstall and reinstall. Thank you!

I have installed ACDSee Pro3 and have problem to transfer photofiles from device: I got the message; The item could not be edited because you do not have sufficent access privileges or destination volume is no longer available." What can I do?

Ask the ACDSee Pro support personnel.
With iPhoto that message means the library is a referenced library (photo not copied when imported into iPhoto's structure) and the source file is not where it was when first added to the library.  I don't know how ACDSee works. Does it have a referenced mode as opposed to copying photos into its structure?

  • Lightroom 5.2 Error: The file could not be edited because Photoshop CC could not be launched...

When I am using Lightroom 5.2, and I try to edit a file in Adobe Photoshop CC from Lightroom, Photoshop starts up and after 15 to 20 seconds, I receive the following error message: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop CC could not be launched." If I click "OK" on the error message form, the image finally opens in Photoshop.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom 5.2 and Photoshop CC multiple times, but the edit in Photoshop problem won't go away.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?
    Thanks,
    Mark

I am having the same problem in lightroom 5 on a mac (Mavericks).  I'm wondering if it's because I have both Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop CC and somehow they are conflicting, but I don't see how.  I clearly have Photoshop CC as the primary external editor.
Last night, after seeing this post, and ekupp's response, I uninstalled Photoshop CC and reinstalled it via the creative cloud and that fixed it, but today it's doing the same thing again. When I choose to edit in photoshop CC, Photoshop CC opens but I still get the error in lightroom.  If Photoshop CC is already open, I still get the error.  I refuse to keep uninstalling/reinstalling it...  I can't lose Photoshop CS5 as I use it for designing (I like the view in mini bridge better), but I like CC for editing.
This is creating a secondary problem for me as I am ending up with a bazillion (OK, maybe 5) psd copies of the raw files that I want to edit.  When I get the error, Lightroom proceeds to render the files.  I really want to turn that function off because as of now I have to try to click the microscopic "x" for each file as it "prepares to edit" and that's tedious and is creating extra files I don't want.
Last thing, since I'm here and hopeful to get an answer...  I have a Mac, as I stated and I like my spaces.  However, when the "edit in photoshop" function works spaces continues to force me to the photoshop space.  No multitasking allowed as my files are opened.  I think this is a lightroom or photoshop quirk, as when I run actions I am able to go to a different space (safari or lightroom) to work as it works for me.

    Reply to Trevor Dennis:
I am a long-time user, back to Photoshop 6.  I have a Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion).  I have tried to reboot and then reinstall but I keep getting the same message, that there are components missing from the appl;ication directory.  The program worked well this past week so this is a new problem.  As it is CS 5 I can't get much help from Adobe.
