Joomla Integration

Hello,
I am trying to figure out, how to integrate Dreamweaver and Photoshop to develop templates for Joomla. Is there a way to see the Joomla site in Action through the Dreamweaver panel?
Couldn't I just have my Joomla Installation running on my local server and develop the site using dreamweaver? I couldn't find anything on the net about this issue. Thanks...

Your question is by no means a stupid one, but one that people here would rather you ask before you dive in then to say "well why didn't it do xyz". What DW allows you to do with a CMS like Joomla is give you the option to see the rendered page in a preview using Live View (given that you have an operational testing server) and give you code hinting to program your own PHP into Joomla much easier because you can view all related and included files to see the whole picture of what is going on. If you are hoping that DW is an interface that will seamlessly integrate and be a Joomla editor, this is not the case because the edits it allows you to do will require that you have an understanding of the Joomla source code so you know which files you need to edit to get your desired outcome.

DW & Joomla integration

Hi all and thank you for your help.
DW CS5, PHP & mySQL.
I am not a hardcore programmer and therefor like DW a lot; there are many scripts available and the rest DW does by itself. So, from time to time I have a look at sites for some new inspirations regarding layout and so on. In my cyber travelings, I have bumped over Joomla. From what I have read, it makes stuff really simple and there's a whole lot of templates available.
From the viewpoint of web developers like me, what is your experience of the integration with Joomla with DW? Is it OK and easy to learn?

Joomla Site-Specific Code Hints not working, DW5

I setup a Site using an existing Joomla installation on localhost, including the testing server and MySQL database. After trying to enable Site-Specific Code for Joomla for this Site, I still cannot get any sort of Joomla reference or hinting while editing code. After seaching both these forums and other sites, I cannot seem to find any details as to how this integration actually works.
Where in DW5 can I actually see Joomla integration, code hinting, or Joomla API reference after setting it up with a Site?

Since this is non standard DW5 functionality you may be better off contacting the author of the Lynda.com class through Lynda.com to see if they can help you check to see if you have things configured properly. Lynda.com is very good about getting you access to the authors.

I know that the new CS5 has Joomla! Code support - but I have not found any complete documentation on how to fully use it.
Has anyone written a book? Is there a tutorial? Anything that goes from A to Z on how to fully use this?

Drupal and Wordpress Integration in Dreamweaver

Hello,
I have started learning Wordpress and Drupal. I know Dreamweaver.
I understand in both CMS platform I have to make Custom Design Template in Dreamweaver to satisfy my client needs.
So I am wondering, is Dreamweaver having better integration with Wordpress or Drupal for building design template and etc?
I have choose Drupal & Wordpress over Joomla because for currently available extensions -
Wordpress has 23,277 plugins.
Drupal has 19,600 modules.
Joomla has 10,000 extensions.
Though some are commercial, some are outdated, some have bugs etc.

I respect your opinion but I am learning Drupal, Wordpress, PHP, Mysql and many more from Lynda Video Tutorial - http://www.lynda.com/Drupal-training-tutorials/186-0.html. In my opinion it is very good website for learning. It educates through step by step process video. Totally, from start to finish in details. They have also exercise files by practical examples, which you can use that as practice purpose.
Learning from video is more understandable that books, because you are seeing and hearing the step by step process whereas in books you are reading the step by step process. Learning from video is near to practical knowledge and learning from book is theoretical knowledge.
Previously I have learned all from books but now I am more eager to learn from videos. Obviously, you will not get all things from videos. Therefore, still I learned from books and only if I do not get video on that subject. But try one video tutorial, I think you will be satisfied.
There are also another video tutorial website like drupalize.me, lullabot, video2brain. I don’t think that in youtube you will get tutorial in details from start to finish, probably you will get some fragment tutorial.
However, may be your opinion will be different and I am waiting for your opinion.

Using LDAP from 10.5 Server with Joomla

Has anybody successfully used the LDAP from 10.5 server with Joomla?

I've had some success with the LDAP integrated into Joomla 1.5. Although, Joomla currently appears to require an email address during validation. So, if you don't have email addresses in the OSX LDAP database, a user can not fully login even if the username and password is correct).
Here are my sanitized settings
Host: hostname.domain.tld , e.g. [email protected]
Port: 389
LDAPV3: yes
Negotiate TLS: no
Follow Referrals: no
Authorization Method : "Bind and Search"
BaseDN: cn=users,dc=hostname,dc=domain,dc=tld , e.g. dc=myserver,dc=mydomain,tld=com or whatever OD LDAP is set for.
Search String : uid=[search] // I do not know if this is valid.
UserDN: uid=[username],dc=hostname,dc=domain,dc=tld
Connect username:
Connect password:
Map full name: cn
Map email : email
Map userid : uidnumber
When you enable the module, you should see an OD LDAP log entry

Joomla and Dreamweaver 6

Dreamweaver is a great coding tool, and I use it as my main editor. I occasionally have customers with existing joomla sites come to me for support and I sometimes find highly customized, poorly documented sites. I would love to use Dreamweaver to help me track down the what files contain the source code and css. The Live View is pretty much just compiled cms output and is only somewhat helpful in finding the files which originate the code.
Since dreamweaver does list the linked files, I get some hints, but it can be a laborious process to find the right file.
My current workflow is to download files that I need to work on from a server, make any needed changes in Dreamweaver, re-upload and then check results on a browser. I use firebug, and my general knowledge of the Joomla framework, to hunt down the code. Somtimes I have to identify the code chunk in the compiled source code, and then do a search for that chunk in the entire site. Very, very slow when I have to resort to that type of sleuthing.
At each release of Dreamweaver that claims "Integrated CMS support... with the dynamically related files feature", I hope that Dreamweaver will be capable of determining where the code is being originated (it seems to me like this would be the very essence of a "dynamically related files feature").
I have now downloaded the new CS6 version (I was running CS5), and I cant tell any difference in this area.
Am I missing something? Does Dreamweaver provide this feature? If so, How do I use it?

Joomla provides a nice face to its interface for inexperienced users, but the backend is very messy depending on the changes you need to make. DW is not going to do what you are looking to do. It's main purpose of Live View is just to allow you to view linked files, and preview the content using the Live View rendering engine where prior, all edits were made in code not being visible until you updated them. Personally, I use the Search function in DW to search the folder to find the right file, but if you only download a particular file to work on you won't have an easy time going about doing this. The best way for them to implement this feature would be to cache the files better, kind of like how Spotlight works for Mac. But that would require a lot of scanning which would be bandwidth consuming and resource consuming for remote file work. I could see them implementing this on a local site where all the files of the site are on your computer though. Based on how Adobe plans to utilize the Cloud, with constant updates, I'd recommend you submit a feature request for additional coding support. https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Can I ask what types of changes you are making for these clients? Are you building/editing modules, or working more with templates in Joomla?

CMS menu integration with Dreamweaver

In his discussion of customising Wordpress templates here http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/dreamweaver_custom_templates_pt2.html Chris Converse describes a technique for integrating the Wordpress menu system with that generated by Dreamweaver and Spry. (see Template #9)
Unfortunately the video glosses over this but it seems an extremely useful idea as the cms will generate menu items that are automatically populated into the Spry menu and continue to be editable dynamically in Dreamweaver CS5. Perfect for template development.
Can anyone explain how this is done please?
I actually want to do this with a Joomla template but I guess the principle is the same as with Wordpress.
Any links to training on this subject would be invaluable.

The end product for both programs are different. I guess the quickest way for them to do it is to have a HTML website to convert to an adobe muse file. Since they already have an export function for the adobe muse file to html files.
It would really streamline the production of websites. Layouting in adobe muse then gritty stuff on dreamweaver.

CMS integration?

When will you be able to integrate the website that you have designed on edge reflow into CMS such as Drupal,Wordpress or Joomla? Will you add this feature on the next update of edge reflow?

IWeb needs simple MySQL integration!

iWeb could be a fantastic program if it had MySQL integration, especially for those of us Mac users who like building CMS type sites. Better yet, iWeb would be the #1 web tool if it could build templates for Joomla, Drupal, Wordpress, etc., from within the App.

Thanks guys for the "heads up." However, I am extremely familiar with php, apache, and hosts.
I guess my suggestion deserves more explanation.
If iWeb contained a "Tables" and "Fields" manager, something similar to Navicat's MySQL tool, within its code base, then iWeb could allow a CMS or CRM to be built right within the app that doesn't require 3rd party involvement. It would also spark some great "security" opportunities for webmasters using iWeb.
It would allow a user to build a user table, giving the designer more flexibility in "who can see what" on the iWeb site. It would certainly up the viability of iWeb's use by Mac Users because it would better support "automated dynamic content." By iWeb having the ability to connect directly with MySQL (which comes with OS X), iWeb could become the Mac users choice for simple CMS and CRM website development / prototyping.
I especially dislike the proprietary nature of iWeb's abilities, in that, I have to pay for an Apple Hosting account that is far too limited on features and offerings for its cost. iWeb needs work, and I think experienced webmaster input is important for Apple to better satisfy the needs / desires of its consumers.
Maybe that clarifies what I meant by this post a little better?

Calc integration w/ Ajax

I know I should be asking this in a Joomla forum but I wanted to make sure that Calc had the capability to do this. Would it be possible to set up a blank spreadsheet (instead of a form) and capture numerical data that way directly in a website? If so, how would one go about integrating such a thing? I am attempting to setup a census at [Assyrians Online|http://www.assyrians-online.org/] (url used for reference only) and I would very much like to use Calc to gather some numerical data. Is this possible or am I reaching?

I agree-- I use Fireworks for all my web projects, and currently send .png files to clients. Integration with Fireworks would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have setup a new technical system and a business system in SLD, but now I still can't find it in Integration Directory.
I knew from the later PI Version, that there was an option to transfer SLD data to integration directory, but now I can't find it
anymore.

Tools (or right-click in ID) --> Assign Business System --> follow the wizard...it will assign the business system from SLD to ID

What is new AT&T iPhone MMS date? I see integrated messaging feature

Okay, I heard that this was to happen at then end of Summer, then end of July.
So what is the new date? I see Integrated Messaging counters in my AT&T profile as of this week.

PreparedStatement doesn't offer methods for that. You can write your own implementation of PreparedStatement which wraps the originating PreparedStatement and saves the set* values and writes it to the toString().
If needed, myself I just print the sql as well as the values-being-set to the debug statement.Logger.debug(query + " " + values);
