[journalctl] cannot find log older than actual boot

Hi,
my system just crashed, so i runned "sudo journalctl", but there is no log older than THIS session...
it is the way journalctl works, or something really bad is going on?
how i'm supposed to find what whent wrong? /var/log seems unused since 28 august, when i've installed a full systemd

That's the default. You can change it by creating the appropriate place for a permanent log and/or you can tell it to use syslog-ng and modify that service to use systemd's logging.

I have 2 iphoto libraries but one is lost, missing, cannot seem to find it... tried an apple care person - they were no help - we use Time Machine for external backup... but cannot find my older iPhoto library! I desperately need some help!

I have recently had something really odd happen within iphoto. My photos from May-Oct 2013 appeared to be missing from my primary Iphoto library.
last night I was trying to find any additional Iphoto libraries on my Imac... I could not find them... but then somehow the May-Oct 2013 library showed up and now I cannot find the "current" primary Iphoto library. I sought help from apple care today but no solutoin from them after 2 hours trying. I have timemachine that backs up my Imac each day to an external hard drive. When I open Iphoto while holding down the "option" key - it lets me choose which Iphoto library... but only (1) library comes up... I can't figure out what happened - but it seems that I must have more than one Iphoto library because yesterday I was able to see all my photos except the "gap in dates" from May-Oct 2013. Today - I can only open a Library called Iphoto2014... and it contains the photos from the gap in dates. I can't "see" any other options to open photos... but just yesterday there appeared to be a different library available.
Any advice or steps i should take to locate my missing photos - would be soooooo much appreciated.

Exchange 2010 Outlook search can not find messages older than 1 year

Hello,
I have an exchange 2010 sp2 server. One of my users complains that Outlook search can not find any message older than 1 year. He have all his 5 year mails in the mailbox, but looks like search engine cant recognise them :(

Please verify that indexing is complete in Outlook:
1. In Outlook, click in the Search box.
2. Click the Search tab, click Search Tools, and then click Indexing Status.
3. When the Indexing Status dialog appears, you should see the following:
Outlook has finished indexing all of your items.
0 items remaining to be indexed.
Besides, please use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet to check if you can get messages older than one year in this user mailbox.

How can I automate Sharepoint log deletion older than 5 months using powershell or C# code ?

I ran across this code (frankly forgot where) a few years ago, originally to delete IIS logs, but I use if for everything. It simply goes through each item in a folder and deletes by date. I save the code below to a ps script, then call it with
a batch file and schedule a task to run the batch file (reasoning is it is easier to schedule a task to run as a .bat file than .ps1. Don't forget about changing the execution policy if you decide to use it on non-SharePoint servers as well.

My album shows only photos up to 18 months in age. I have no idea how to find my older photos? What is the proceedure?

Try a smart album with the rule "Date is in the range ......"
Or simply arrange the events by date; this way, you will find your older events at the end of your list of event.

Udev-182 cannot find firmware (even long after boot)

Hello.
After upgrading to kernel v3.3.2 with udev 182, I began experiencing issues with my video card and WiFi adapter.
The cause seems to be similar in both cases: udev can not load firmware at boot time, returning –2 (ENOENT, file not found).
These issues cannot be worked around by blacklisting the corresponding drivers and modprobe`ing them manually after login.
Well, I`m okay with WiFi not working, since I don`t use it, but the video card is really a trouble.
How can I make udev do its job?
[UPD:] Last configuration known to be working is kernel 3.1.6 + udev 175.

"Installer failed to initialize" Cannot find log.gz file, please help!

I've downloaded CS6 but am getting the following message:
I tried running the Adobe Support Advisor but I get this message:
I've also tried looking through other discussions and found that I need to locate the log.gz files, however, I've followed these instructions but I wasn't able to find these files. What should I do now??
I have never downloaded a trial version so I know it's not because I need to uninstall that. I have been struggling a lot with getting this software (due to extremely slow internet connection and it taking over 24 hours and countless attempts to download just to begin with). Any help would be greatly appreciate as I would love to start using it!

The log.gz is a zipped file consisting of installation log information.
The location is :
• Windows 32 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\
• Windows 64 bit (XP, Vista, 7): \Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers
The log filename includes the product name and install date, followed by ".log.gz." The extension .gz indicates a compressed format.

The screenshot above clearly indicates the error caused due to some missing files.
Moreover you have admitted for a slow internet connection and countless attempts to download the software.
I would recommend you to redownload the package to a flash drive by connecting to a different faster network speed and then retry the installtion by connecting the flash drive to your computer.

'Keychain cannot find Log in'

I get this message from time to time. I havent made any changes. But the keychain still works. What gives?

Open Keychain Access and from the Keychain Access menu select Keychain First Aid.
Run 'Repair' then run 'Verify'.

Calendar search not finding calendar events older than a year.

Calendar search cannot find events older than a year.
neither does spotlight search.
iphone 4s 16GB ios version 7.1.2
ipad 32GB with retina (purchased on 2012) ios version 7.1.2

Calendar events over one year old are not found when searched on iOS. Neither on the iPhone nor the iPad. Although they are found on a mac running mavericks calendar app.
All events are displayed when going directly to the month and viewing all the events of each day, but she search feature, the one accessed through the little magnifier, simply cannot find any event older than a year.
I have multiple events in my calendar and I tested them and the last I can find is within 365 days of today. after that events cannot be found.
steps to reproduce:
1. go into the calendar app on the iPhone and add an event but use a date date 13 months older than the current date. Save the event.
2. verify the even is created by looking at the day of the event
3. on the top right corner of the calendar app select the magnifying glass and try to search the event by typing any word you used on the title of the event just created
4. search result will display No Results
5. exit the calendar and access spotlight search on the home screen by using the "pull down" gesture from an area outside of the dock, including the top row of app icons. Type any word you used on the title of the event just created
6. search result will not display the event

Cannot Find Songs

I get this message when trying to play my songs:
*This song "Dixie Lullaby" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?*

I don't know where you have your music on your Computer. If you cannot find it anymore, than it must have been deleted or something. If not, than it MUST be somewhere on your computer, and you have to tell iTunes where the actual path is.
I recommend to separate your iTunes music from all other music on your PC. To do that, you should go into iTunes and select: Edit > Preferences. Then choose the Advanced folder and set the path for the iTunes folder where you want it (I have it in the "My Music" folder).
Then you should enable +Keep iTunes folder organized+ and +Copy files to iTunes Music when adding to library+.
Then press OK.
I also recommend the following. You should do this when your library shows no problems to play any song.
You should select Advanced > +Consolidate library+ and press Consolidate.
Then all music of your iTunes library will be copied in your iTunes folder.
This separates your iTunes Music from the other music on your PC (hope you got enough space).
Don't change names or move files inside the iTunes folder manually. Do that only in iTunes. ITunes will then set the new name inside the iTunes folder by itself (presupposed you have enabled +Keep iTunes folder organized+).

How do I download the previous version of Firefox (3) as my system won't support Firefox 4 (can't find the older versions archives anywhere on your site).

I already had Firefox version 2 on my mac (OS 10.4) and tried to upgrade to version 4. Couldn't find any details on system requirements, so just went ahead and tried to download latest version. By the time the process informed me that it wouldn't work on my system, the old version 2 had somehow been deleted. Now I have no Firefox browser at all and cannot find any older versions archived.

I just read today about a separately maintained, unofficial version of Firefox for 10.4 users called TenFourFox. They are somehow repackaging the latest Firefox to work on 10.4 (''on non-Intel Macs'').
