Journals database on BPC NW
Hi experts,
Can anybody tell me what is the application/table where the journal are saved or posted?
Regards
David,
Header data is stored in UJJ_JRNL and line item detail is stored in a generated table. The name of the generated table corresponds to your appset and application, but the general format is /1CPMB/*****JRDT where the stars are 5 characters, the first two of which denote the appset and the last three of which denote the application.
Why do you ask? If for diagnostic purposes, go wild, but if you are thinking of building functionality on top of these tables, I do not think that the application is guaranteed to use the same tables or keep them in the same format in the future.

Sql 2005 standard edition for sql and AS databases with bpc 7.0 sp3 ?
hello
Install guide tells that we must use SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition with BPC except for Reporting Services.
Customer asks wether he could use SQL 2005 Standard Edition for SQL database and Analysis Services ?
Thanks.Hello Sorin. Two more questions, please:
1) what do you mean by "Also into Application server you need EE because only in this version you have control flow." ?
Is "control flow" "business process flow" new functionality ?
2) On the other hand, I don't think that BPC admin task is able to handle lite or full optimize without an Enterprise Edition Client.
But customer asks wether it is possible to install on application server
- SSIS standard edition for SSIS service
- SSRS standard edition for Reporting Services
- SQL client Enterprise Edition to let BPC admin task handle lite and full optimize properly.
Why all this ? Because Enterprise Edition costs ten times more than Standard Edition and in a multi-server configuration, customer has to buy several SQL Server licenses, one per server running at least one SQL server service. (For example, with SQL,SSIS and OLAP on one server, and SSIS and SSRS running on the application server, customer has to buy two SQL servers licenses).
Thanks. R. -
Handling Recurring Journal Entries in BPC 7.0NW
Hi all,
I'm looking for suggestions on handling the posting of Recurring Journal entries in a Legal Consolidation. I'm new to BPC, and am afraid I don't know the "best" way to do this. Currently, we are assuming that we would "copy" the previous months' entries into the new month, but when I do this, the Description of the entry says "Copy xxxx", which of course is not acceptable! The users don't want to have to open and maintain the description on 30 entries every month when the values posted are the same.
Perhaps there is another way to handle these entries?
Thanks in advance for any comments-
ValerieThe documentation around re-opening journals isn't really clear; I wasn't sure of the purpose of re-open.
Can you re-open a journal multiple times? In other words, the journal is created in January, and you re-open it in Feb, Mar, Apr, etc. for many months? Or do you flag each new journal as re-open, and re-open the one from the period before in the new month, i.e. the Jan journal re-opened in Feb; the Feb journal re-opened in Mar.
Can you change the values in the journal after you re-open and before you save?
And lastly, does the new journal in any way affect the original journal?
I know there is a translation table associated with re-opening journals, but as far as I can see I can leave this table with a single entry indicating "*" for all dimensions, which means the Entity, Account and Intercompany dimensions will stay the same upon re-opening. Is this your experience?
Thanks for you help!

BPC "The system cannot create the journal template"
I am trying to create a Journal template in BPC but whatever I do I get the error message "The system cannot create the journal template"
I am running BPC 5.1 and have tried with service pack 1 and now with service pack 5 installed. The system is on SQL Server 2000.
Has anyone come past this problem?Hi Andy,
Please check how many sheets are in a default excel workbook on your client. If less than three, BPC fails to create the journal template. If that's the case, try setting default number of worksheets to 3, then retry journal template creation.
If the above is not the issue, then you'll have to check that reporting services is working correctly. As a first step, go to http://<app server name>/reportserver (or reportserver$<instancename> if you are using a reporting services instance and left it with the default name)
If that page compiles and shows without error, then try http://<app server name>/ reports (or reports$<instance name>) If that one also compiles/doesn't give errors, then reporting services is working. -
Dear Experts,
I have two questions in journal postings in SAP BPC.
1. I wanted to know, how does system picks up Journal ID number when we post a particular JV in BPC? (Like in R/3 we give number range for a document type, is there any place in BPC configuration where we need to maintain the number ranges)
2. In Journal posting in BPC I am able to save the Journal but I am not able to post the same. That means after saving the journal when i click on Post the journal system remains in the same way and I am not able to view the data in the infocube?
Your response is highly appreciated.
Regards
PaulHi Ritesh,
Have you checked the Member Access Profiles and made sure that the existing members you are trying to post exist within the profile? Are there work status locks?
If possible (if you are in a dev environment) delete the work status locks (if there are any) and attempt to re-post the journal entries. If that still doesn't work at that point I would check whether or not your authorizations are the issue. An easy way to do this is to assign yourself the FULL_MBR profile making sure that the profile is up to date including security for each application within your AppSet.
If you have done all of the above and you are still having trouble posting I would check that you are posting members with the correct case (in BPC NW the account "cash" and the account "CASH" are two separate and distinct accounts). Case sensitivity is one of those things you should always be cognizant of when working in a BPC NW system which is quite different from BPC MS if that is what you are accustomed to.
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers, Scott -
What is a Journal in the BPC arena? Any documents on this topic please?
Thx
YVHI,
You can use Journals to track changes and adjustments made to the database by many users, usually for the end of month or end of quarter process.
For example, you load general ledger information into your application using Data Manager. Afterwards, a number of users look at the data and make adjustments.
Journals keeps track of who made which changes. It also allows you to generate reports on the changes by amount, date, user, and other properties.
Journals allow a company to capture an audit trail of the changes made to the database during the review and analysis step.
You can formalize this process by setting up a special work status that locks changes from BPC for Excel data sends and only allows changes made by Journals.
u can find more details about Journal in the admin guide in sap market place:
[Admin guide|https://websmp108.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01200252310000085368&_SCENARIO=01100035870000000112&_OBJECT=011000358700001123512008E]

Database Portability of restored Database in Production server
Hi All,
I have a query regarding database portability in Exchange 2010 server.
I have restored a Journaling Database which is ~ 350 GB and just wanted to check if i dismount the prod database which does not have any data in the DB and only journlaing mailbox is pointed to this DB , can i move restored DB .edb file to the production
server physical location and mount it, will the journaling account will connect to this restored database which i have copied. or do i have to run any command which will reconnect the mailbox.
BR/DeepakHi,
You can use the Connect-Mailbox -Identity -Archive cmdlet to re-connect an archive mailbox.
You can refer to the following article.

Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a HFM security issue on HFM 11.1.2.3 we are facing please?
The problem is that a user can by-pass the journal approval stage and post directly after submitting if Custom4 access control=All is selected.
If any of the other access controls (None, Read, Promote) for custom 4 are selected, the first two steps of the process are possible -
input and approval of the journal are possible but final posting of the journal is not and returns an error that says:
"User does not have the access right to perform this journal task"
The options I have thought for a workaround are as follows:
1. 1. Set up a 3rd user called data poster and remove submit journal role from user 1 (data inputter)
2. 2. Put in place process control and use the various review levels (could be quite time consuming given there is no time left for development)
Have anyone experienced this before and come up with a quick way of resolving this please? It would be very much appreciated.
We have two types of users who are associated with groups in HFM and have the appropriate roles assigned to them to complete their tasks,
they are:
1. A data Inputter (who inputs base data and journals, who has access to create and submit journals)
2. 2. A data reviewer (who approves journals)
The process is as follows:
1. 1. Logon as Data inputter to submit the journals
2. 2. Logon as Data reviewer to approve the journals
3. 3. Logon as Data inputter to post the Journals
We are using the custom 4 member to identify different adjustment types. At the moment we are able to set it up in such a way whereby Steps 1 and 2 can be completed
but once it comes back to step 3, we get an error as follows:
"User does not have the access right to perform this journal task"
(This error comes about when the access control on custom 4 is set to None, Read, Promote)

Import/export journals using an output file
I am looking into loading journals using an output file in SAP BPC intead of entering every journal using the template.
Hello everybody,
I have found that 3 DTS packages exist for this issue:
Export the Journal Tables
Clear the Journal Tables.
Restore the Journal Tables.
I have added these packages (using the three .dtsx files that are in the server, in the "Examples" folder) and, after that, run the packages in the proper order. I have some doubts that I would appreciate if you could solve them:
1.- When I run "Export the Journal Tables" package, I can NOT make a selection of journals (for example, using Time dimension). There is no possibility. Is it possible modify this DTS package to export only some selected journals? In case it is, how?
2.- In order to restore journals table, firstly you need to clear all the table using "Clear the Journal Tables" package (I tried to do it without clearing all the journals, and I got an error message that said that I have to clear the journal table before importing ). Would it be possible to restore/import only some journals WITHOUT clearing ALL the previous journals??
3.- I have exported the Journal Table to an output file, clear all the journals in the Journal Table (using the proper package) and run the "Restore the Journal Tables" package using the output file I have gotten before. I have gotten this error: "Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A005B". Do you know what's the problem?
4.- Dou you know another way of loading journals using an output file in SAP BPC intead of entering every journal using the template?
Thank you very much. There may be options to your process, but as I have mentioned in other strings, the Journals in the BPC for Microsoft version are sequenced. That means that there is a system generated sequence ID for each journal. Any individual selection of journals would possibly cause an issue for the sequence. I have not seen any past work in SSIS to detach the records for export or import. It may be possible, but I would assume it will take some core SQL coding.
Regarding your error, you may need to verify that you have the security set correctly to use Journals and use the Data Manager capabilities. Typically, when security tasks are not correct, you will get an error similar to your HRRESULTX.... error.
An option for loading the details is to build a worksheet in EVDRE, aggregate the data and send it to the cube at a level that is easy to save the file and submit consolidated results. Just make sure you send all "like" records at an aggregated to a base member, and send to a datasrc to identify the extra details. Then store the excel file with the input values.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone,
Has anyone received the following error when trying to post a journal entry in BPC 7.0, SP3?
"Posting Failed - Logic Error"
Nothing further is in the error. I've tried validating the logic again (just because the error indicates logic but we don't have any journals logic), optimizing, etc...but still receive this error.
Other journals post fine and this same journal (with different amounts) posted fine to another month.
Any suggestions?
One thought I had was that we are trying to post to an elim company. But it worked for another month correctly.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
JenniferThanks everyone for the responses.....I commented out default logic and the entry posted (good suggestion, should have thought of that.) I just have to figure out what line is the issue. I'm a little stumped because some entries post fine and a few fail. doesn't seem to make sense.
Thanks,
Jennifer -
Exchange 2013 Journaling Best practices
I am using native Exchange 2013 Journaling for journal all external messages for all users. The size of journal mailbox is very huge. I am looking for best practices for journaling
in terms of journal mailbox size? Journal database size? Do I need to create multiple journal mailboxes? Do I enable achieving for journal mailbox? If archiving enabled, then what is max size for archive mailbox? I do not want to export mails to PSTs.
Appreciate help from othersHi,
Do you mean the size limit for .pst file?
By default, in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013, the overall size of .pst file has a preconfigured limit of 50GB. In Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007, the default .pst file size limit is 20 GB. If the file size is greater than the default size limit, you will
be unable to open the .pst file. However, we can modify this value by making changes to the Windows registry.
Here is a related article for your reference.
The file size limits of .pst and .ost files are larger in Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982577
About the user mailbox size limit, there are no inherent size limits, you can set the size limit to unlimited if you want. But you need to take many factors into consideration as mentioned above.
Best regards,
Belinda

Exchange 2010 to 2013 migration: Mailbox move requests are journaled.
Hello,
I've installed Exchange 2013 into Exchange 2010 infrastructure
[ single Exchange 2010 server; single AD site; AD = 2003 ],
Exchange 2010 has 2 databases:
1. Database with users mailboxes; Journaling YES: Journal account.
2. Database with 1 mailbox for Journal user mentioned above: Journaling NO.
Exchange 2013 has 1 database:
1. Database with moved users mailboxes; Journaling YES: Journal account.
I saw that when I move mailbox from 2010 to 2013 then Journal Database INCREASES about size of MOVED MAILBOX !
I logged into Journal mailbox by OWA and didn't see any duplicate messages concerned with this mailbox user...
I'd like:
* to understand technically what happened,
* to avoid unnecessary growth of Journal Database.
I'd like not to switch off journaling for all users during mailbox move.
best regards Janusz SuchHello Winnie,
your understanding is not correct:
I move mailboxes from first DATABASE which is journaled;
second database is dedicated solely for Journal user's mailbox and is not touched now.
Thank you for PS commands; I'll use them...
best regards Janusz Such
Hi Janusz,
Sorry for my delay. In your original posting, "I saw that when I move mailbox from 2010 to 2013 then Journal Database INCREASES about size of MOVED MAILBOX !"
My understanding is that when you move mailbox from Exchange 2010 Database 1 to Exchange 2013 database, the journal mailbox in Exchange 2010 Database 2 is incleased. Is it right?
Generally, the mailbox move would not be journaled unless there is any new email bening sent to the mailbox during the migration. Please run the commands in my original posting to check the statistics about it, and refer to Ed Crowdly's suggestion to use
Journal rule instead of database journal as a workaround.

Winnie Liang

Journal report - template by account
I have a question about the journal report based on the by account template which comes with BPC. When I run it (for testing I have one journal only) and select an account, the report shows the correct journal ID but it shows both the credit and the debit entry, though only one of the two is posted to the account I have selected.
I wanted to use the report to check the amounts posted to a specific account by journal ID but it seems that this is not possible.
Has anyone worked with this report and can help me?
Thanks,
ArnoldArnold - I am pretty sure that if you look at the account string, this report will show you both sides of each journal transaction.
This is another canned report that BPC automatically creates. It is built on SQL Services Reporting Services, and it is very limited. I would be interested in what others have to say, but so far I have not found many people on this discussion board that actively use Journals feature of BPC.
Something you may want to consider is to research how to set up a DQY file, to be able to start at an intersection and drill through to the detailed journals related to an account intersection.
Another thing you might want to try is to create a Data Manager package that would query the journal tables directly dbo.jrnApplicationName (which contains header info) and dbo.jrnDTLApplication Name (which contains detail journal info), and either send you the report in email or save it at a server location.

I have found that the wording of this parameter is not as the documentation describes it.
Please try adding a parameter named ALLOW_CHANGE_STRUCTURE with value Yes.
Hope this helps,
