JPA Error using UPPER

Hello,
we are currently migrating from WebLogic 10 with Hibernate to WebLogic11 (10.3.6) with TopLink.
The following Statement runs fine with Hibernate, but with TopLink i cant get it to work.
Statement:
SELECT t FROM Tan t WHERE UPPER(t.surname) = UPPER(?) AND UPPER(t.name) = UPPER(?) AND t.parcelId IS NOT NULL
Stacktrace:
line 1:52 mismatched character ')' expecting set '1'..'9'

Hello Chris,
thanks for your fast reply.
I found the mistake.
TopLink needs a index after each "?"

  • How to create a cache for JPA Entities using an EJB

    Hello everybody! I have recently got started with JPA 2.0 (I use eclipseLink) and EJB 3.1 and have a problem to figure out how to best implement a cache for my JPA Entities using an EJB.
    In the following I try to describe my problem.. I know it is a bit verbose, but hope somebody will help me.. (I highlighted in bold the core of my problem, in case you want to first decide if you can/want help and in the case spend another couple of minutes to understand the domain)
    I have the following JPA Entities:
    @Entity Genre{
    private String name;
    @OneToMany(mappedBy = "genre", cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST})
    private Collection<Novel> novels;
    @Entity
    class Novel{
    @ManyToOne(cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST})
    private Genre genre;
    private String titleUnique;
    @OneToMany(mappedBy="novel", cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST})
    private Collection<NovelEdition> editions;
    @Entity
    class NovelEdition{
    private String publisherNameUnique;
    private String year;
    @ManyToOne(optional=false, cascade={CascadeType.PERSIST, CascadeType.MERGE})
    private Novel novel;
    @ManyToOne(optional=false, cascade={CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST})
    private Catalog appearsInCatalog;
    @Entity
    class Catalog{
    private String name;
    @OneToMany(mappedBy = "appearsInCatalog", cascade = {CascadeType.MERGE, CascadeType.PERSIST})
    private Collection<NovelEdition> novelsInCatalog;
    The idea is to have several Novels, belonging each to a specific Genre, for which can exist more than an edition (different publisher, year, etc). For semplicity a NovelEdition can belong to just one Catalog, being such a Catalog represented by such a text file:
    FILE 1:
    Catalog: Name Of Catalog 1
    "Title of Novel 1", "Genre1 name","Publisher1 Name", 2009
    "Title of Novel 2", "Genre1 name","Pulisher2 Name", 2010
    FILE 2:
    Catalog: Name Of Catalog 2
    "Title of Novel 1", "Genre1 name","Publisher2 Name", 2011
    "Title of Novel 2", "Genre1 name","Pulisher1 Name", 2011
    Each entity has associated a Stateless EJB that acts as a DAO, using a Transaction Scoped EntityManager. For example:
    @Stateless
    public class NovelDAO extends AbstractDAO<Novel> {
    @PersistenceContext(unitName = "XXX")
    private EntityManager em;
    protected EntityManager getEntityManager() {
    return em;
    public NovelDAO() {
    super(Novel.class);
    //NovelDAO Specific methods
    I am interested at when the catalog files are parsed and the corresponding entities are built (I usually read a whole batch of Catalogs at a time).
    Being the parsing a String-driven procedure, I don't want to repeat actions like novelDAO.getByName("Title of Novel 1") so I would like to use a centralized cache for mappings of type String-Identifier->Entity object.
    Currently I use +3 Objects+:
    1) The file parser, which does something like:
    final CatalogBuilder catalogBuilder = //JNDI Lookup
    //for each file:
    String catalogName = parseCatalogName(file);
    catalogBuilder.setCatalogName(catalogName);
    //For each novel edition
    String title= parseNovelTitle();
    String genre= parseGenre();
    catalogBuilder.addNovelEdition(title, genre, publisher, year);
    //End foreach
    catalogBuilder.build();
    2) The CatalogBuilder is a Stateful EJB which uses the Cache and gets re-initialized every time a new Catalog file is parsed and gets "removed" after a catalog is persisted.
    @Stateful
    public class CatalogBuilder {
    @PersistenceContext(unitName = "XXX", type = PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED)
    private EntityManager em;
    @EJB
    private Cache cache;
    private Catalog catalog;
    @PostConstruct
    public void initialize() {
    catalog = new Catalog();
    catalog.setNovelsInCatalog(new ArrayList<NovelEdition>());
    public void addNovelEdition(String title, String genreStr, String publisher, String year){
    Genre genre = cache.findGenreCreateIfAbsent(genreStr);//##
    Novel novel = cache.findNovelCreateIfAbsent(title, genre);//##
    NovelEdition novEd = new NovelEdition();
    novEd.setNovel(novel);
    //novEd.set publisher year catalog
    catalog.getNovelsInCatalog().add();
    public void setCatalogName(String name) {
    catalog.setName(name);
    @Remove
    public void build(){
    em.merge(catalog);
    3) Finally, the problematic bean: Cache. For CatalogBuilder I used an EXTENDED persistence context (which I need as the Parser executes several succesive transactions) together with a Stateful EJB; but in this case I am not really sure what I need. In fact, the cache:
    Should stay in memory until the parser is finished with its job, but not longer (should not be a singleton) as the parsing is just a very particular activity which happens rarely.
    Should keep all of the entities in context, and should return managed entities form mehtods marked with ##, otherwise the attempt to persist the catalog should fail (duplicated INSERTs)..
    Should use the same persistence context as the CatalogBuilder.
    What I have now is :
    @Stateful
    public class Cache {
    @PersistenceContext(unitName = "XXX", type = PersistenceContextType.EXTENDED)
    private EntityManager em;
    @EJB
    private sessionbean.GenreDAO genreDAO;
    //DAOs for other cached entities
    Map<String, Genre> genreName2Object=new TreeMap<String, Genre>();
    @PostConstruct
    public void initialize(){
    for (Genre g: genreDAO.findAll()) {
    genreName2Object.put(g.getName(), em.merge(g));
    public Genre findGenreCreateIfAbsent(String genreName){
    if (genreName2Object.containsKey(genreName){
    return genreName2Object.get(genreName);
    Genre g = new Genre();
    g.setName();
    g.setNovels(new ArrayList<Novel>());
    genreDAO.persist(t);
    genreName2Object.put(t.getIdentifier(), em.merge(t));
    return t;
    But honestly I couldn't find a solution which satisfies these 3 points at the same time. For example, using another stateful bean with an extended persistence context (PC) would work for the 1st parsed file, but I have no idea what should happen from the 2nd file on.. Indeed, for the 1st file the PC will be created and propagated from CatalogBuilder to Cache, which will then use the same PC. But after build() returns, the PC of CatalogBuilder should (I guess) be removed and re-created during the succesive parsing, although the PC of Cache should stay "alive": shouldn't in this case an exception being thrown? Another problem is what to do when the Cache bean is passivated. Currently I get the exception:
    "passivateEJB(), Exception caught ->
    java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException
    at com.sun.ejb.base.io.IOUtils.serializeObject(IOUtils.java:101)
    at com.sun.ejb.containers.util.cache.LruSessionCache.saveStateToStore(LruSessionCache.java:501)"
    Hence, I have no Idea how to implement my cache.. Can you please tell me how would you solve the problem?
    Many thanks!
    Bye

    Hi Chris,
    thanks for your reply!
    I've tried to add the following into persistence.xml (although I've read that eclipseLink uses L2 cache by default..):
    <shared-cache-mode>ALL</shared-cache-mode>
    Then I replaced the Cache bean with a stateless bean which has methods like
    Genre findGenreCreateIfAbsent(String genreName){
    Genre genre = genreDAO.findByName(genreName);
    if (genre!=null){
    return genre;
    genre = //Build new genre object
    genreDAO.persist(genre);
    return genre;
    As far as I undestood, the shared cache should automatically store the genre and avoid querying the DB multiple times for the same genre, but unfortunately this is not the case: if I use a FINE logging level, I see really a lot of SELECT queries, which I didn't see with my "home made" Cache...
    I am really confused.. :(
    Thanks again for helping + bye

    I have no idea what this means, or whether it is a problem.  Does anyone know what this is?
    Thanks.

    I see the same thing and have done for some time. The actual file is being saved back. etc. So, in that respect both Lr and Ps are working fine. IOW, ignore it.

    Hi everybody,
    I have configured a file-webservice-file without BPM scenario...as explained by Bhavesh in the following thread:

    I have used a soap adapter (for webservice) instead of rfc .My input file sends the date as request message and gets the sales order details from the webservice and then creates a file at my sender side.

  • Getting "Method 'sign_in' does not exist" Error (using Charles)

    This may be a bit off the FLEX field, and have to do with Zend Framework's ZEND_AMF class. Unfortunately I haven't been able to dig anything up, and comments posted on Wade Arnolds site have not received any responses, so I thought I'd give it a go here.
    My ServiceController Class:
    public function loginAction()
         $this->_helper->viewRenderer->setNoRender();
         $server = new Zend_Amf_Server();
         $server->setClass('LoginAmfService', 'LoginService');
         $server->setClassMap('CurrentUserVO', 'CurrentUserVO');
         $server->setProduction(false);
         print($server->handle());
    My LoginAmfService class:
    class LoginAmfService
          * Main login function.
          * @param  string        $name
          * @param  string        $password
          * @return CurrentUserVO

              $authAdapter     = new Zend_Auth_Adapter_DbTable(Zend_Registry::get('db'), 'users', 'user_name', 'password', 'PASSWORD(?) AND active = 1');
              $returnValue     = new CurrentUserVO();
              $authAdapter->setIdentity(htmlspecialchars($name))

    Now, all this is great and good, as it works with Zend Framework 1.7.6. However, when I try to upgrade to 1.7.8 (to take advantage of session management and other bug-fixes), I get the following error (using Charles):
    #1 /var/web/htdocs/core/library/Zend/Amf/Server.php(390): Zend_Amf_Server->_handle(Object(Zend_Amf_Request_Http))

    #5 /var/web/htdocs/core/library/Zend/Controller/Front.php(934): Zend_Controller_Dispatcher_Standard->dispatch(Object(Zend_Controller_Request_Http), Object(Zend_Controller_Response_Http))
    #6 /var/web/htdocs/core/application/bootstrap.php(39): Zend_Controller_Front->dispatch()
    #7 /var/web/htdocs/core/public/index.php(5): Bootstrap->runApp()
    #8 {main} ?Method "sign_in" does not exist
    I have no idea why this would not work anymore. My assumption is that I am not correctly setting up Zend_Amf (but then again, my counter-argument is that it worked before, so ..... ????)
    Thanks for any help!
    -Mike

    For those that are also fighting this issue:
    The problem appears to be that the RemoteObject needs to specify the class containing the methods as a source parameter. According to this bug report (http://framework.zend.com/issues/browse/ZF-5168) it is supposed to have been addressed, but apparently has re-emerged in Zend_Amf since version 1.7.7.
    Using my example above, I would have to specify the RO as:
    <mx:RemoteObject
              id="LoginRemote"
              destination="login"
              source="LoginAmfService"
              showBusyCursor="true"
              fault="parentDocument.handleFault(event)"
         >
               <mx:method name="sign_in" result="signin_handle(event)" />
               <mx:method name="sign_out" result="signout_handle(event)" />
         </mx:RemoteObjecct>

    In Excel have you tried saving directly to xls (not xlsx) and opening the xls in Numbers?
    If you have a complicated workbook in Excel that uses lots of Excel's advanced features, Numbers may not be able to handle the import.  It does pretty well on basic things, though.
    If you're just trying to get data into Numbers, then often copy-paste from Excel is easier than trying to open xls files.

  • Warnings/Errors using getClass().newInstance()

    I'm getting some warnings & errors using getClass().newInstance() on an object. I can't however see what's wrong.
    First a little background, Bar is a class that manages a set of beans, including creation. One of the actions is to create a special copy of bean, the method that does this does some bookkeeping (such that a particular instance of Bar will only work with objects it created).
    This class was originally written in 1.4 and I'm now trying to genericify it.
    First attempt:
    public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
        public T getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
            T newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance();
            // do some stuff
            return newBean;
    }This yielded: "Type mismatch: cannot convert from capture#1-of ? extends Foo to T"
    I can cast:
            T newBean = (T) fromBean.getClass().newInstance();Which drops me to a warning a can suppress: "Type safety: Unchecked cast from capture#1-of ? extends Foo to T".
    The code runs fine like that, but I'd rather not even have a warning to suppress, I don't like suppress them unless I know that it really is safe.
    The code above looks perfectly reasonable to me, I can't figure out why it could be problematic, which leads me to wonder if I'm missing something. We've got a parameter that is of type T or a subclass of it, calling getClass().newInstance() creates an new object such that origobj.getClass() == newobj.getClass() *. Since that class is T or a subclass of it, it should be assignable to T.
    The code above when, compiled and subjected to type erasure, effectively produces a method that looks like this:
        public Foo getFlaggedBean(Foo fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
            Foo newBean = (Foo) fromBean.getClass().newInstance();
            // do some stuff
            return newBean;
        }Note that the cast to Foo is strictly unnecessary.
    There's a couple ways I could solve this, such as:
        public <S extends T> T getFlaggedBean(Class<S> useClass, S fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
            T newBean = useClass.newInstance();
            // do some stuff
            return newBean;
        }I'd rather not change the API, though. Can anybody give me an idea where the initial code, with warnings could be unsafe?
    Neil
    * Unless you're mucking about with class loaders, but that problem would be an issue with non-generic code too.

    Paul,
    So does that bit of the JLS mean that my compiler is doing something wrong when it finds the getClass() call, in the code below, to return Class<? extends Foo> rather than Class<? extends T>? If the latter were returned it would compile fine.
    public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
        public T getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
            T newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance(); // doesn't compile
            // do some stuff
            return newBean;
    }I was initially distracted by the "capture#1-of" and thought that was culprit, but as the code below demonstrates calling getInstance() on an instance of a class the compiler notes as "Class<capture#1-of ? extends Foo>" assigns to Foo just fine. Interestingly in this code my IDE says that getClass() is returning "Class<? extends Foo>", both javac and the IDE spat out "Class<capture#1-of ? extends Foo>" when the 1st line of the method had a warning or error. I assume that "Class<? extends Foo>" and "Class<capture#n-of ? extends Foo>" are equivalent and that "capture#n-of" is something fairly internal to the compiler. Can anyone shed light on that?
    public class Bar<T extends Foo> {
        public Foo getFlaggedBean(T fromBean) throws InstantiationException, IllegalAccessException {
            Foo newBean = fromBean.getClass().newInstance(); // this works
            // do some stuff
            return newBean;
    }

    Hi Leah,
    Have you tried double clicking?
    If this doesn't solve the issue, you might want to try using a different version of the browser and disable the pop up blocker on your browser.
    Please try this out and let me know.

  • Errors using add_user_to_list

    All,
    i seem to have come across an error using the portal30.wwsec_api.add_user_to_list function. I believe the error could be with my code....the error i get :-
    Step : 11 - ORA-01086: savepoint 'ADDUSERTOLIST_SAVEPOINT' never established
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL30.WWSEC_API", line 1915
    ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL30.WWCTX_SSO", line 849
    ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL30.WWCTX_SSO", line 669
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error
    The piece of code i have running through a CURSOR FOR LOOP is as follows..
    FOR assign_users_to_group IN cur_assign_group LOOP
    -- Maintain the portal account
    portal30.wwsec_api.add_user_to_list
    ( p_person_id => assign_users_to_group.person_id,
    p_to_group_id => assign_users_to_group.group_id,
    p_is_owner => 0
    END LOOP;
    The CURSOR FOR LOOP selects out the correct person_id and group_id for which the new user is to be assigned. I then attempt to add the user to the (already created) group. Has anybody had this type of error before??
    Thanks for any help,
    Matt.

    Just to keep you all up to date with the situation. i have now progressed onto DELETE_USER_FROM_LIST, and quite unsuccessfully too.....
    This time i have this piece of code....
    -- Maintain the portal account
    portal30.wwsec_api.delete_user_from_list
    ( p_group_id => revoke_users_from_groups.group_id,
    p_member_person_id => revoke_users_from_groups.person_id
    I run this piece of code as PORTAL30, just like the ADD_USER_TO_LIST function. Except this time I get another error
    declare
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-06510: PL/SQL: unhandled user-defined exception
    ORA-06512: at "PORTAL30.WWSEC_API", line 2465
    ORA-06512: at line 5
    Needle in a haystack, or does somebody out there have an idea??
    Thanks, Matt.

  • HELP :  using UPPER with LIKE in CMP finder??

    Hi,
    am trying to do a case insensitive wildcard search but am having little luck, if I run the sql query
    select * from my_view where UPPER(name) like '%SMI%'; then I get the right results back but when i try to use it in my CMP bean I get nothing unless the case matches.
    my xml entry is as below:
    <finder-method partial="False" query="SELECT * FROM MY_VIEW WHERE UPPER(name) LIKE ?1">
    <method>
    <ejb-name>View</ejb-name>
    <method-name>findByName</method-name>
    <method-params>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    </method-params>
    </method>
    </finder-method>
    can anyone help please ?? can I not use UPPER in one of these queries ??
    Regards
    Rosie

    Rosie,
    I was able to get this example to work and it is nearly identical to yours. I passed "C%" into the bean and received all the records where the USR_MSG_CTGR_ID field started with "C". Is the problem a data issue? (Does the connection used by the bean use the same database and user ID that you used when you executed the query manually? If not, are they looking at the same table?)
    Good luck!
    <finder-method partial="False" query="select * from my_usr_msg where upper(usr_msg_ctgr_id) like ?1">
    <method>
    <ejb-name>My_usr_msg</ejb-name>
    <method-name>findByUpperValue</method-name>
    <method-params>
    <method-param>java.lang.String</method-param>
    </method-params>
    </method>
    </finder-method>

    Thanks,
    AbhijeetI think you'll have to write a function to do this for you. You can use DBMS_SQL to break a LONG into pieces and work with 32K segments. I am not sure how to put the converted data back into the LOB at that point, though DBMS_SQL might provide a way to do this.

  • ODI 10.1.3.4.0 - Topology Manager Connection Error using SQL 2005 SP3

    Hello All,
    I am using the ODI repository in SQL 2005 SP3. I could create my master repository using the following parameters:
    driver: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    URL:jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://server_name:1433;SelectMethod=direct;DataBaseName=ODI
    I needed to copy to the drivers directory all files of SQL 2000 (msutil.jar, msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar) and SQL 2005 (sqljdbc.jar). I am using the JRE 1.4.2 and JDBC 2005 1.2 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378422(SQL.90).aspx)
    But when I try to connect in Topology Manager to create the work repository appears the following error:
    using this driver string: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver
    java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC] Can't start a cloned connection while in manual transaction mode.
    using this driver string: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    java.sql.SQLException: No suitable driver
    Does Somebody know what is happening?
    Regards,
    Wallace Galvao
    Sao Paulo - Brazil

    Hi,
    If you plan on using the SQL Server 2005 drivers then you only need the 1.2 sqljdbc.jar file in the drivers directory.
    The connection details for SQL Server 2005 should be like the following.
    com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver
    jdbc:sqlserver://<sqls machine>:1433;databaseName=<db name>;integratedSecurity=false
    I would try just with just the correct driver in place, remove the others, restart any ODI components and then make sure the connection information is correct like above.
    Cheers
