JPA - One to Many persistence issue

Hi All,
We are facing an issue with one to many relationship persistence using JPA.
We have a one to many relationship between Company and Personnel. When A personnel is created, the company(the parent in the relationship) is selected and that needs to be persisted along with the new Personnel Entity
Find below the Entity Definitions and the code snippet to persist the Entity into the database.

The personnel entity is being persisted into the database but the company is not getting associated with it. (The company value remains blank)
We are using the Toplink JPA Implementation with Glassfish application server. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi All,
Since PERSONNEL and COMPANY both had the SITEID column, we renamed the column in both tables to check if that solves the issue. However, a null company value is still being persisted into the database.

    Thanks for the thoroughness. There was a mistake in moving the code over for the forum. The field names are correct throughout the original source code.
    BASE_OBJECT_ID is used throughout.
    I suspect the problem lies in the one-to-many sampleItem(s) relationship that is based upon the subclassed item class. (The relationship is actually "sampleItems" in the real code and somehow got changed in the move over.)
    The problem may lie in the mapping of the attribute override in the child class to the referencing of the item class from the parent side of the relationship in the Sample class.
    I further suspect this may be specific to Eclipselink based upon other postings I've seen on the web that have similar problems...
    Any thoughts?

  • Inheritance and One-To-Many Mapping Issue

    Are there any known issues with TopLink 4.6 mapping a one-to-many relationship where the classes in the list span more than 2 levels deep in the inheritance chain? We seem to notice that TopLink creates the class that is 2 levels deep before the owning class.

    Sorry for the delayed response to your post. I'm not sure I follow what you mean by "owning class". You have a 1-M mapping where the M has inheritance. Are you mapping to the root of the inhertance hierarchy, or to a leaf class? I.e., do you have a 1-M "Company - Employee" or a 1-M "Company - SalariedEmployee". In this example, what would you call the "owning class"?

    I am having a problem in which I have a one to many relationship with contact phone numbers and students. In other words, one student can have multiple contacts. (I work for a school district)
    I made up two formulas...called Contact1Phone and Contact2Phone.
    Here is the code I use to display the data:
    IF {STUDCTCT.CNTNUMBER} in &#91;"C1"&#93; THEN STDUCTCT.CNTWPHONE
    Then the other formula does the same, except uses "C2".
    What I get is either C1 or C2 displays, but never both for the same student. Anyway to make this work? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

    I forgot to add, I do know that placing STUDCTCT.CNTNUMBER in &#91;C1,C2&#93; as a selection then just simply place the CNTWPHONE field into the details section of the report will give me the results. But the reason why I am trying it the other way is that I can export the data as one record per student, thus I am trying to put the fields and formulas into the group section.

    Now I want to create an EJB session bean with a method which returns an object of type WFData (parent) published as web service . When I try to deploy the web service I get the following error message: Unable to generate serialization framework for web service
    Does anyone know how to serialize a one-to-many relationship so I can use these objects in a web service?

    I found the solution to get serialization correctly working and enable the service to be used in Visual Composer.
    You need to add the tag @XmlTransient to the getter method of the attribute in the child class that references the parent.

    As you may have noticed, the tables are not joined on the Primary key of parent. This is legacy schema and I have to work with it.
    Account and Role are joined by the USER_ID column. This I specified by providing JoinColumn.
    Then I have a DAO to retrieve the relation based on user id.

    When I test this code ( for the user Id I used in test there are 11 roles )
    The SQL generated is correct, when I run the SQL in PL/SQL Developer, it returns the results as expected.
    But the DAO method above returns one UserAccount object with List of 11 UserRole objects as expected. But all of these 11 UserRole objects are same, where as the query returns 11 different roles.
    I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong.
    Any help is appreciated.

    }What do you get when you remove this @JoinColumn annotation? It shouldn't be necessary. (user_id seems a little suspect as the join column name by the way, I would have expected role_id here...)

    Yep, and it still didn't work.
    But I figured what I did wrong: I was selecting both the text and the heart, and then I was doing the whole Object>Wrap Text>Make thing, as opposed to just selecting the heart and doing it. Once I did it, I moved the heart around on top of the text, and it "made room" for the pic, wrapping itself around the heart.

  • Persistence and transactions: One-to-many consistency problem

    we have the following problem: We have two persistent classes A and B that are connected via a one-to-many (1:n) relationship. Now we
    1. get an object "a" of class A and a number of related objects of class B from the persistence manager. Then we
    3. delete the relationship between "a" and one object of class B. Then (without commit)
    4. the GUI requests to show all related Bs for our given "a" and:
    5. the query returns also the "deleted" object.
    All these steps are performed within the same (object oriented) top level transaction.
    The reason for this seems clear to us: The removal of the B has not been persisted in the DB. However, we don't really know how to deal with it...
    Any suggestion is welcome.

    it is unclear to me if you are re-reading the database after you delete the 'b' item.
    Anyway, the way persistent objects work is that changes are not written to the database until the SAP LUW ends with a COMMIT WORK.

    I'm having some trouble using JPA criteria API with collection references.
    I have an entity called Competence that has a one-to-many relation to CompetenceName that contains names for Competence for several languages.

    Now I want to load 200 Competence-entities and sort them by their name (depending on the language of the logged in user). How would this be done using the JPA Criteria API? With a normal query, I would accomplish this with

    Obviously, CompetenceName could contain zero entries for a Competence, but it works anyway with a normal query. With criteria API, it would look something like:

    After migrating from Toplink 9i I've stumbled across a problem with our aggregate objects.
    Toplink Workbench reports no errors and generates a nice XML but in runtime I get this error whenever a aggregate function is used.

    I've created a small test project with just a couple of classes but the same aggregate problem occurs which has let me to believe the problem does not come from the migrating process which was my first guess. If anyone could help me discover what I am doing wrong it would be very appreciated. Below is my test project output.

      </opm:target-foreign-key>There is an issue with the Mapping Workbench and shared aggregates with one-to-many mappings and translating the foreign key fields. Did this work before, I would be surprized if it did, unless the 2.5 Builder was used?
    Anyway the easiest workaround is to either edit the XML and change the NPL_ID_IN_REFERENCE_NPL_PACKAGE_NPL_MEDPROD_Test column name to what it should be, or define a descriptor amendment method to define the one-to-many mapping with the correct field names.

    I didn't find any example on the internet about my particular case.In the database,Cart and CartItem are conected via cart_id field.But in my JPA project,cart_id field is a part of a composite key CarItemPK.

  • One to many relationship leads to recursion?

    Hi,
    I've created a web services function which returns an object retrieved from a database using the persistence api (the class was generated by the Netbeans 5.5 "Entity Class from Database" feature.
    I can successfully return an object which has no foreign keys. However, when I try to retrieve an entity which is on either side of a 1:N relationship, I receive a stackOverflowError.
    Here's my sample schema (I'm using Derby bundled with SJAS 9 for testing)

    I can retrieve either an Address or Party from the database using something like:
    em.createNamedQuery("Party.findById")
       .setParameter("id", 1)
       .getSingleResult();When I try to return it, I get a stackOverflowError in the server log. I'm using the default Toplink provider so enabling full logging on this, I can see the SQL.
    When retrieving an address, it selects all of the address fields and correctly binds the supplied Id value. It then performs a select on the Party table using the Address.Party value. This in turn causes it to attempt to retrieve an Address. After three queries, the error is thrown.
    I can't see why the above schema should cause this problem. Where an Address is requested, I would expect it to retrieve the address fields, including the value of the Party field but not the Party object itself. On the other hand. when a Party is retrieved, I would expect it to recurse through and return a collection of Address objects.
    Have I misunderstood this or am I missing some fundamental point about JAX-WS?

    You have to set both sides of the relations...
    for example to do this in a more seamless manner:
    public UserProfile
         public void addLog (UserActivityLog activity)
              logs.add (activity);
              if (!equals (activity.getUserProfile ()))
                   activity.setUserProfile (this);
    Now this is the most primitive of ways to maintain two sided relations.
    There are a lot of other patterns to get around this.
    If you want to set the UserActivityLog to a specific UserProfile without
    having a firm reference to ther UserProfile, you should get the object
    from the database/persistenceManager... as you are using application
    identity, you can do something like pm.getObjectById.
    JDO does not do magic references. If you set something to null, it will
    remain null until you set it.

    I can see Order and Order Line are get persisted but Order Line table don't have order_id populated automatically. Please help me out.
