Jpeg file sent received as bin

I am befuddled. I have sent both jpg and png files via Mail to Squarespace and on each occasion they said that they received them as .bin files. Is this a setting that I have incorrect? I don't think so because others have said that they received the files just as they were sent. Is it a setting that Squarespace needs to change somehow? I don't understand how this is possible to send as one thing and receive as another.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try clicking the paperclip icon in the toolbar to open the attachments dialogue and in there, browse to the files you want to attach and click the Windows Friendly checkbox.

  • Windows .jpeg attachment is received as windat.file in Mac mail

Is there a setting I need to change so that .jpeg attachments sent from Windows are not received as win.dat files in Mac Mail?

Are you sending the files, sbertochi?
If so, there's some older advice on this page:
    http://www.modemhelp.net/newsletter/email/winmaildat.shtml
If that doesn't seem applicable to your setup, what application (and version of the application) are you using to send the emails with the troublesome jpegs?

  • I have sent a file to the trash bin. When I come to empty the trash bin everything goes out except this one particular file and I get a note saying the file is 'in use' but it is not. How can I delete this file from trash?

I have a Macbook Pro with OS X Lion 10.7.2. I have sent a work file to the trash bin along with many other files. When I empty the trash this one particular file remains and I get a message that this file is still in use. I have tried returning the file to my documents, opening it, closing it and then sending it to trash and again I try to empty trash but the same message comes up - Q - How can I trash this file permanently?

First just try logging out and back in.  Whatever is holding on to it may not be running after the logout thus freeing it so you can trash it after logging back in.
You might also try Trash It!

Can you drag and drop the attachments visible in the email to the Desktop OK or does that fail ?
Re the sending: Are these recipients on Mac's or PC's as the file type could be an issue, if on Mac's then try setting the Mail Preferences Composing setting to Plain Text not Rich Text and see if that improves things.

  • PSD files sent over FTP given 1kb file size, archived, and have .bin appended to extension

I'm trying to deliver PSD files to someone over our server's FTP. If the FTP shared folder is accessed via a browser (like safari which is the main thing I've been testing on), the files in are listed as being only 1kb in size when each is approximately 60MB and all have had .bin appended to the .psd file extension. When the file is downloaded it's still 1kb and when opened it is associated with the archive utility which attempts to unarchive it and produces and identically named and extensioned file of 4kb size which cannot be opened by preview or text edit or photoshop.
Changing the extension does not help as suggested here http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-25119.html . Also if the file is downloaded via 3rd party FTP software like cyber duck, though the file size is listed as 1kb, the correct size file is downloaded though still has the .bin extension. When this full sized .bin file is opened, archive utility instead of unarchiving attempts to archive it and produces a file roughly half the size which too cannot be opened. Speaking with apple care resulted in the suggestion that I use terminal command line to force the client to use binary mode when downloading the file which also downloads a file of correct size but with the .bin extension and that can not be opened.
Is this a known issue with PSD files? I've not come accross this before, the server is configured correctly and different file types are successfully downloading with no changes to size or extension and then opening as they should upon receipt at the client side.

    Hi and thanks,
that was my next port of call but I stumbled across a more permanent fix. Mac OSX server automatically converts files sent over FTP to something called MacBinary on the fly and it seems this process doesn't agree with PSD files. Someone else encountered this problem back in 2003 and found this solution
    http://forums.appleinsider.com/archive/index.php/t-25119.html
speaking to apple care they also sent a link for the official mac instructions for achieving the same thing here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20996
    and here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA20645?viewlocale=en_US
in the second explanation it's important to note for anyone attempting to follow this that if you're fixing the problem on MacOsX server rather than just MacOSX it isn't necessary to enable the root account as it is automatically enabled by default. Simply log out and log back in as root and use the same password as the first administrator account you set up when the server was first configured.

  • TS3276 how do you send file attachments (Particularly jpegs) so that receiver gets as a file not as an open embedded photograph

how do you send file attachments (Particularly jpegs) so that receiver gets as a file not as an open embedded photograph?

This sends the attachment as an icon, not embedded inline. Copy/Paste into Terminal in Utilities and hit return.
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 1
To reverse the setting, change the 1 to a 0.
But how it will be viewed  will all depend on the e-mail client and settings of the recipient. Not under your control.

  • IMac can no longer open .jpg .jpeg & other media files sent from PC?

I can no longer open .jpg photos & media files sent to my iMac from my wife's PC through Outlook email. I get an error message saying the item cannot be opened. All other recipients have no trouble opening these attachments. We have tried numerous fixes suggested by Apple chat sites but to no avail. I suspect an OS update around December 2010 has caused this problem on not just our machine but thousands of other iMac users & Apple is ignoring it. Why isn't Apple addressing this huge issue?

Likely, because there are millions of Mac users, and not everyone is experiencing this issue.   Until it happens to all Mac users with a specific system, it will be very difficult to isolate the cause.

  • How to use File Adapter Receiver to write attachments

    Hi,
i have a scenario, in which our own XInotes adapter sends an XIMessage from an IBM Lotus Notes database into XI. This XIMessage contains an XML document as application main document and several PDF files as additional attachments
On the receiver side, i must use a File Adapter to write both the XML documents and the PDF attachments into a directory.
The problem is i don't know how to use the file adapter receiver to write the attachments. In the Channel Monitoring, i can see that all PDF files are transferred to the file receiver. But the file adapter writes only the XML document into the directory.
I've also tried the AF_Modules/PayloadSwapBean, but it can only swap one PDF file into the application payload. And the file name must be hard coded in the module configuration as swap.KeyName.
Could anyone give me any ideas?
    thanks a lot in advance
    Xiang

    hi,
receiver file adapters do not supprt attachments.
Only File Sender adapter is capable of handling attachments not the receiver.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/4b/a20c4cfea96b498b1e1af3f32f0670/frameset.htm
    Configuring the sender FILE adapter
The sender file adapter is configured to pick the normal payload (file1.xml), which is specified in the File
access parameters, and the additional image file (file1.jpg) that is to be sent as an attachment is configured
under the Additional File(s) as shown in the screenshot below. The file type would still remain binary.
Since, by default, XI sends payload and attachments in XML format, we need to call two beans, namely the
MessageTransformBean and the PayloadSwapBean to help us is transforming the content to jpeg format
and also change the file extension.
The PayloadSwapBean module is used to replace the application payload of the XI message that holds the
data with another payload which is appended to the message as an attachment. In our case, the payload
would be file1.xml whereas the attachment would be file1.jpg
The swap module is denoted in our scenario with the module key ‘swap’. It has two parameters from the
    MIME header.
    regards,
    pradeep.

  • Can't open Jpeg files in email

I just purchased a Samsung Continum.  I love it but I am unable to open jpeg files in my emails.  Am I missing something?

Just keep in mind, downloading has limitations. The maximum file size for picture / videos/attachments can vary from device to device. The file size limitation is based on the megapixels of the camera on the device. The maximum file size that can be sent from an email to a device is 3 MB. When any message over 350 KB is sent to the device, the file is reduced in size to be under 350 KB prior to delivery. If a device sends a 500 KB file to a device with a lower file size limit the file will be reduced to a file size acceptable by the receiving device.. A message that exceeds the other carrier's limits will be rejected and not reach the intended recipient.
Listed below are steps to download attachments
From a home screen, select Applications.
    Select Gmail.
    Select an email message.
View the email message. If the email message has an attachment (e.g. jpg, gif, bmp, etc.) select one of the following attachment options:
An installed application is required to download or preview some attachment types.
    --Download
Downloads the attachment to the SD card.
    --Preview
Previews the attachment within the viewed email.

  • Cannot View Power Point/Jpeg Files

Have Microsoft Home and Office 2010. Loaded Adobe Reader X
In Word cannot preview Powerpoint or jpeg files. Computer files with these extensions do not show correctly in the file folders.  Nor will they open.
In Outlook, when attaching anything other than Excel or Word files, it pulls up photos that have nothing to do with what the file is named or the content it should have. Shows pictures that were sent to me through Outlook by another person, and/or pictures I've looked at (that are I don't know where on my computer).
When trying to open files I receive message, "Other files exist. The selected locations do not contain pictures to preview, but other files exist.  To view these files, on the View menu click Show Pictures Only."
Have researched "pdf preview handler", but afraid to open certain web pages and/or use "foxit" download.

I have no idea where you are making a connection between PPT and JPeg files and Reader (Reader is another forum anyway). PPT and JPeg files will only show the icon if you have an application that can read them. I am not sure Windows Home ed has OFFICE and thus may not be able to view the PPT files. For JPegs you can use IrfanView or an appropriate MS product that might be on your machine. Again, I see no connection with Reader that can only read PDF files, period. If you want to create PDF files from these other file types you would have to have the application for each file type as well as Acrobat (or one of the 3rd party products as you mentioned at one point). However, that is not the question you asked.

  • RAW files converted to JPEG files on my mac can't be seen by my customer who has a PC: WHY?

I have been using Adobe CS5 for over a year now but only recently discovered how Adobe Bridge helps with work flow and post processing. My first time using Bridge I put all my RAW NEF files into folders and, after processing them in Photoshop, put all the JPEG files into a seperate folder. Before sending said JPEG images to my client, I batch renamed them to make sure the image file numbers were in the proper consecutive order. My client, who is a PC user, received these images and said she was unable to view them. Her computer system isn't outdated and I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm wondering if there was a formating change that happened when I did the batch rename or if the problem is Adobe Bridge altogether? I did all these on my Mac Book Pro which is only a year old..What am I missing??

Did each image have its .jpg extension? i think Windows likes to see the extension, Macs don't care.

  • Why isn't .jfif not listed in the JPEG file extensions (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe) Photoshop Elements 12

    Problem:  Corrupt JEPG files.
    Software:  Adobe Photoshop Elements 12
Story: On my website I have the option to sell files as instant downloads.  I upload JEPG 300dpi images of my artwork for people to purchase is a download.  I have done this on Etsy for several years without a problem.
The problem began when I setup a website using Weebly, an online build your own website company.  I upload the same files I have used in the past, but when I do a test purchase and download my file it is corrupt.  I get an error message in Photoshop Elements that the file is corrupt or missing information.  If I let Photoshop open the file, the file it is only half there or lines through the image.
I have been working with a Weebly tech to solve the problem.  I sent him the file I wanted to upload.  He opened the file on his computer and saved it.  Then uploaded to my site, I downloaded it and the file was fine a perfectly clear 300 pdi JPEG file.  We were confused.  After a few more tests he mentioned he did not have Photoshop and was using Microsoft Paint (light bulb) to open and save the files. His files worked, mine did not.
So I tried opening my files in Paint and saving them in that JEPG format and they work.  The only difference i can see between Paints JEPG save option and Photoshops Save Function is that Paint includes the .jfif extension.
Question:  Should this make a difference?  if so can I add the file extention to Photoshop's list of file types that I can save?
    Thanks
    Mark

Thank you I will check it out.  I am not sure what information is attached to picture files, but the same file saved in Microsoft Paint works in my situation and the Photoshop file will not. The only difference is Paint supports.jfif and photoshop does not.  I might want to go the other way jpg to jififs. or save with to jepg with software that supports jfifs.
