Jpeg formatting problems(what am i missing?)

Ok, so I have been importing photos into FCE with no problems with the exception of photos taken in the vertical. I figured out how to rotate, but when I do that the photo is blurry and it looks squeezed. How do I correct this? I am assuming it is simple, I am stumped at this point.
I do not have any photo editing software, all photos are in jpeg format.
Thanks....

Tom,
Thanks! I guess the photo wasn't rotated. It was simple...
As far as the monitor, no monitor. I am looking into getting one, but for now I am just using the laptop and the small window in FCE. Any suggestions?
I was working using preview before I imported the photo. It was viewed in the right aspect in preview, I guess it wasn't saved that way. I opened it up, re-saved it, imported it again and now all is working!
Thanks a million!
Respectfully,
Jeff

  • Plotting Large Format PDF: What Am I Missing?

Hey folks, someone please help me with this.  I cannot for the life of me get an architectural D-sized pdf  (24" vertical x 36" horizontal sheet) to print in the proper orientation on my 36" wide roll-fed plotter.  No matter the settings I end up with either a portrait sheet (36" edge vertical) on 36" square paper or half of a landscape sheet (36" edge horizontal) on 36" square paper.
    Adobe Acrobat 9.2.0 Standard
    HP DesignJet 1050C
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
These are the various settings I've tried:
1 - what seems like the logical settings to me
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: checked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
result: portrait sheet on 36" square paper

    2 - unchecked auto-rotate and center
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: unchecked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
    result: same as 1
    3 - changed paper orientation
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: portrait
    auto-rotate and center: checked
preview: landscape sheet on landscape paper
    result: same as 1
4 - changed paper orientation, unchecked auto-rotate and center
    sheet: landscape (36" edge horizontal)
    paper orientation: portrait
    auto-rotate and center: unchecked
preview: landscape sheet on portrait paper
result: landscape sheet on 36" square paper

    5 - changed sheet orientation
    sheet: portrait (36" edge vertical)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: checked
preview: portrait sheet on portrait paper
    result: same as 1
6 - changed sheet orientation, unchecked auto-rotate and center
    sheet: portrait (36" edge vertical)
    paper orientation: landscape
    auto-rotate and center: unchecked
preview: portrait sheet on landscape paper
    result: same as 4
7 - changed sheet and paper orientation

    paper orientation: portrait

After sorting out my page orientation issue another large format issue cropped up: when trying to print 24" x 36" pdf drawings to the HP 1050c I'd get the following errors:
The document could not be printed
There were no pages selected to print
I'm not sure why I started getting these errors as I was able to print just fine for some time.  The good news is I've figured out how to correct it:
The 1050c is an HPGL printer, but Adobe uses PostScript drivers.  The solution that worked for me:
Start > Devices and Printers > remove the 1050c
Start > All Programs > Administrative Tools > Print Management > Print Servers > (local) > Drivers
right-click the 1050c drivers > Remove Driver Package...
you may have to reboot your machine before you're able to remove the drivers
Start > Devices and Printers > Add a printer
in my case it's a network printer so I entered the IP address and named the port HP 1050c PostScript
when it asks you to select the printer from the list click the Windows Update button and wait for a bit
select HP > HP DesignJet 1050c PS3 (these are the PostScript drivers)
finish the install, naming the printer HP DesignJet 1050c PostScript
Now add the printer a second time
    port name: HP 1050c HPGL
    Windows Update button
HP > HP DesignJet 1050c by HP (these are the HPGL drivers)
    finish the install
Now you should be able to Start > Devices and Printers > remove the HP DesignJet 1050c PostScript printer, the postscript drivers will remain installed
After doing this I was able to print from AutoCAD 2010 and from Adobe Acrobat 9.3.1 without any problems.

When you export the videos out of iPhoto be sure to select Kind = Original.  Otherwise you'll just get an image file of the first frame of the video.

You know that you lost the layers when you saved it as a jpeg, right? But you're saying you can't add layers to the jpeg now when it's open in the editor? Go to Image>mode and be sure it's RGB, for starters. Are all the commands in the Layer menu grayed out?

First be sure login and password are OK. Sometimes the address starts wit "http://..." and sometime starts with "ftp://...". Try both normal FTP access and Scure FTP access (SFTP). At the end, contact the site's provider.

  • Imported files from my camera, a mixture of photos and videos, the videos (mp4 format on my Canon SX60 HS) always appear at the start of my library view.  What am I missing here?

Even though I select sorting by capture time, the videos do not intersperse with the photos in chronological order.  What am I missing here?
I have tried both putting them in a collection and viewing all pictures etc. to no avail.
In Windows Explorer, I have them sorted by time taken successfully.  They all import into folders by date in "My Pictures", both photos and videos when I import them.

  • Group X-Fade Problem - Grouped tracks apply different crossfade lengths when dragged in place?  (What am I missing here?)

    Super Friends/Fiends,
In Logic Pro X (and 9) I am hitting a wall editing a chamber string session I just tracked.
When I have multiple regions selected with either rubber-banding or phase-locked editing in groups, and I X-fade them with other regions, they apply different crossfade lengths.  This does NOT occur when I individually overlap the regions.  The process gets cumbersome/tedious and I feel like I am missing something here.
It is consistently applying larger to smaller crossfade lengths from top to bottom of the selected region overlaps.
What am I missing?  Thanks for the help!

Same here, I'm seeing it with a LP9 project that I opened in LPX. I can't edit this way, it's driving me crazy. I also tried selecting all the regions and setting the numerical value for the fade time in the inspector, but that gives even more silly values.
Also, zooming in on the waveform looks very blocky compared to LP9.
I hope this is some setting I'm overlooking, otherwise I'll have to go back to LP9 for editing audio.

    Hi
And without info - it's near to impossibly to help. Try my general troubleshooting note:
    Troubleshooting note
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
Creating a new User-Account and log into this
This forces iMovie to create all pref. and cache files new and error free
Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
a Codec is used that doesn't work (even though iMovie and/or iDVD tries to / they fail in the end)
version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
USB-flash-memories - usually do not work
Net-work connected hard disks - usually do not work (most often not fast enough and WRONGLY FORMATTES as DOS etc)
iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie. When iMovie starts-up it first look trough this iPhoto library and if faulty it all Halt’s.
    This You do by
    First -  close iPhoto
    Secondly - on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
Thirdly - now select all five options presented
THEN - WAIT a long long time (>20 hours are not strange)
free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
Screen must be set to million-colors
    Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • Is there a practical size limit on JPEG format image files?

I have noticed when working with Photoshop v7.0 on Windows XP that, when creating a JPEG format image file from a very large scanned image (more than 800 Mb, maybe), the .jpg file will usually be saved on disk at any of the possible compression ratios available, without any reported error, yet when the saved file is re-opened, an error is reported - something along the lines of "missing or corrupted end of file marker" - and the image cannot be loaded.
If before saving the original image is substantially reduced in size, e.g. by reducing the resolution of the image, a viable JPEG format file can be created, which will subsequently load successfully, though technically with data loss.
This appears to happen only with JPEG format files - PDF format files can be saved from the original image at similar JPEG compression ratios, without error on reloading.
I do not know if this also occurs with any other Photoshop versions.  I am working with Adobe Photoshop v7.0 on Windows XP, although we are preparing to upgrade to CS (which version I don't know) in the near future, for different reasons to those which are detailed above.
Does anyone know if there is a technical explanation for this behaviour?  Is there a file size limit for writing viable JPEG files (which Photoshop does not report as an error when exceeded)?
    Thanks

that's what I gathered from "JPEG cannot [...] in Photoshop (code difficult to replace)".
But if you say this is in the works right now, that's good news indeed.

  • Convert Web Page to PDF formatting problem - 1st line of each paragraph outdented

    Hi Folks,
I get a formatting problem when I convert any web page to PDF using the 'Convert Web Page to PDF' option - the 1st line of each paragraph is outdented.

Is there a simple setting somewhere I am missing?
    Any help much appreciated!

Are you using "Adobe PDF" or "PDF or XPS?" I sounds like "Adobe PDF," but trying to be sure. Have you updated your Acrobat to the latest version? If not, try that.

I have scanned photos using an Epson V500 scanner set to scan using jpeg format at the highest quality (least compression) setting.  When I try to import the scanned jpegs into iPhoto, I get an error message from iPhoto saying "The file is an unrecognized format."  But if I reduce the quality setting on the Epson scanner to just slightly below highest quality, the images import into iPhoto just fine.  Why won't iPhoto accept jpegs scanned at the highest quality setting?  Wondering?

What scanner format settings dis you use?  Are these color photos? If they are B/W did you scan as grayscale images?  That could be the problem.
Are you able to open them with Preview?  If so do a Save As, select full quality and save as a jpeg with a new file name.  See if that file will import and work as intended.
