JPEG icon format

I have a number of jpeg icons which appear in a generic format in Icon view in the finder, i.e.the icon simply says 'jpeg' and does not give a thumbnail of the image. if I save an image in tiff format (from Photoshop or Preview) the icon shows a thumbnail of the file's contents but Preview saves show only the generic format. Two questions: how do I make sure all jpegs are saved with a thumbnail and can I convert existing generic icons to show a thumbnail without converting them to tiffs?

It's a photoShop problem, Id Get GraphicConverter gives even more options...

It can be set to create icons of different sizes on existing files.

enetr command+J in finder and in the resulting popup check the box "show icon preview".

  • Qu. re: jpeg icons

When I browse my pictures folders, files appear as thumbnails in icon view, but in list and column view most appear as generic jpeg. icons, and just a few, seemingly random, as thumbnails. How can I make all of them appear as mini-thumbnails in these 2 views?
    Thanks,

    HI Rb,
Perhaps this is just a corrupted Finder preference file causing this. Try this ... locate this file:
com.apple.finder.plist It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences Open the Preferences folder, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. It's ok to delete a preference file, your Mac will create a new one for you.
Also, I just found this info in Apple's Help Menu ...
When you save an image file, in some cases the file's icon is a small preview of the image. The Finder can show these preview icons; however, some image files may not have a preview icon.
When you view files as icons, you can increase the size of the icons to get a better look at the image preview. When you view files in columns, you can see the preview image in its own column when you select the file.
To see image previews as icons, choose View > "as Icons."
Choose View > Show View Options and move the slider to the right to enlarge the icons.
To create preview icons for files that don't already have one, choose View > Show View Options and select "Show icon preview."
To see image previews in a column, choose View > "as Columns."
Next, choose View > Show View Options and select "Show preview column."
In the Finder window, select an image file to see a preview of it in the column.
The Finder may not be able to show a preview for some image files.
So.......... the images that only show the generic image... depending on which format those images are... click on one of the images and then press Command + I That will open a Get Info window and tell you exactly what format the image is.
    Hope this helps...

  • Seeing JPEG Icon instead of Picture in Finder views-want to see pictures

I no longer see preview pictures in the Finder screens, on any of the finder views, icon or cover flow, all I get is a JPEG icon, and no view of the picture - anyone know how to fix?

is there a real fix? forced quit and reopen work, but kind of a hokie fix if you ask me

  • In photoshop cc my saved files don't appear as thumbnails with the image, only with the generic tiff or jpeg icon

how do i get actual thumbnail images in photoshop cc instead of generic tiff or jpeg icons??

And what exactly? If you mean system thumbnails, then this has nothing to do with PS. You messed up your file associations then by installing a tool that usurped those associations and they no longer default to the Windows preview function.

Argh - once again, I find my solution right after posting this. Left out one modification to the SWIG script, now it runs in 29 seconds vs C 16 seconds, I can live with that.

  • My FaceTime seemed not working and keep  telling me The document "IMG_3054.JPG" could not be opened. FaceTime cannot open files in the "JPEG image" format.  I clicked OK but it pop-up again.  So that I can't turn off my computer at all.

When I tried to restart my computer, FaceTime will pop-up and a warning message The document “IMG_3054.JPG” could not be opened. FaceTime cannot open files in the “JPEG image” format.  I tried to clike OK but this worning message keeping pop-up and I can not quit FaceTime.  So that I can't turnoff or restart my computer.
    Can someone help?

The next time that happens, try this keyboard shortcut.
    Command + Option + Esc
That way you can "force quit" the Facetime App.

  • What happened to my "Photoshop JPEG file" format?

On my previous two computers -- a G5 running 10.4, a MacBookPro on 10.5, both using Photoshop CS3 -- I used to have two kinds of JPEG files. One was listed in the Finder as "JPEG file," and that opened in Preview; the other was "Photoshop JPEG file," which would open Photoshop.
On my new setup, a MacMini on 10.7 using Photoshop CS5, there are no Photoshop JPEG files, just plain JPEG files that open in Preview.
I need to get the two formats back, as the difference helped me determine which images I had worked on and aided in my photo workflow. I don't want to change all files to Open With Photoshop in Get Info, as that doesn't solve the problem.
Is this something in the Finder? Photoshop? Preferences? How do I get that functionality back? Thanks.

Filname extensions are already on. Also, I typically save most of my images as jpegs so -- for example -- I can send them off to labs, which usually don't accept straight Photoshop PSD files.
I guess what I need to know is whether the separate "Photoshop JPEG File" format has been removed completely from OS 10.7, or can it be restored. It would be a shame if it's gone, as it was a handy function.

  • Jpeg Icons Instead of Images in Cover Flow

First time poster, not sure if this is the right place. Anyway...
For the past few days, when I'm opening folders of images, in Cover Flow mode, instead of seeing the images, all I see is the jpeg icon.
Q1: Did I do something to cause the change?
Q2: How do I restore it?
Thank you, in advance, for any advice!
    Don

    Welcome to Apple forums, Don.
Q1 No, I doubt yopu did anything.
Q2 Go to Users/yourname/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then, restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
Let us know if that helps.

  • Get info window displays generic jpeg icon

For some reason, in Finder and the top of the Get Info window, the icons are showing as the generic jpeg icons instead of a thumbnail preview. Any ideas?

Sounds like a file association issue in Windows. Right click on the files of interest and select Open With>Choose Default Program and select the program you want used (be sure the "always use" box is checked. The Acrobat installation should not have done this change, but this is the process to make the change on each file type.

  • Can't dbl left click JPEG icon on desktop -  to then open Bridge CS4

In CS3 I was able to dbl left click any JPEG icon on my desktop and it would open up Bridge (with view of my Desktop files). Now with CS4 I've set default "opens with" to Bridge CS4 and when I dbl left click on the icon nothing happens?!? Note that PSD files on my desktop have automatically changed to the new CS4 icon - and when I double left click on these PS CS4 opens up. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi bkbl?
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
First check in Applications to see if there is an iTunes icon there?
If so then just drag the one on your Desktop to the dock, make sure it works and then drag the old one off.

  • How do I download images as actual photos & NOT just jpeg icons in Safari?

I can not get either Safari or Firefox to download images from websites, e.g. ebay items, as pictures----they only download as jpeg icons with a code name and then have to be opened in another app. In Explorer I used to be able to see the images as actual photos, which helped me when I was searching for a saved item in my files.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do know how to drop and drag photos/images off a website to my desktop, etc. in both Safari and Firefox. But they are only downloaded as jpeg icons, not as thumbnails. So if I save them in my files (I sell on ebay and have always been able to save both the text of sold items in Word and the thumbnails of the photos in Explorer), with Safari or Firefox they are only jpeg icons and in order to see what the thing IS, I have to open it. This means I cannot just look at my saved files and immediately find the item I am looking for by image. I want to be able to save images as thumbnails and NOT as jpeg icons. And, as we all know, Explorer has not been updated for Mac OS.

  • JPEG icon?

    Hi,
How do I set up my Mac so I can see JPEG icons (actual previews). I just get the generic JPEG symbol. I'm using CS 1 and I have OS 10.3.

    > If the jpegs were made using save for web they have no thumbnail and no thumbnail preview to see in the finder. this is so the file can be as small as possible for use on the web.
That is incorrect in 10.3 (if you do what I mentioned in post 1). The finder will generate previews of SFW files. Not sure where they're stored tho ;). Why it can't seem to do the same with PDFs confused me...
