JPEG image in lightroom 4 book module

In creating a photobook in Lightroom 4 two JPEG images have an exclamation point in a red square in the  upper right had corner which when clicked says "This photo is offline orcannot be found. It will be omitted when you print your book."  How can this be fixed so that I can send the book to Blurb for printing?
Kevin

The message means exactly what it says.
That image is not available to Lightroom currently.
Either this image has been moved (outside of Lightroom) or inadvertantly deleted.
In the Library module R-click on the question mark and see if you can't track it down and so re-acquaint Lightroom with this image.

  • How can I create life size images in Lightroom's Book module?

I want to scan something and place it in a book without scaling the original up or down. I have not found a way to do this – Lightroom only tells me what percentage of the image is showing and it can be at any scale. Can anyone say how I should go about this?

You are not doing anything wrong - except to try this in the Lr Book Module.
The Lr Book Module is not a full fledged book layout program, and many things that you expect for a book layout program can't be done.
I would not be so "picky" as to wanting to avoid any up- or downsampling.
But if you absolutely have to, use Blurb Booksmart or Adobe InDesign to do this. In Blurb Booksmart you can design an image box to exact dimensions in inches.
In Lr you cannot do this, a feature that many users want but it seems that Adobe is adamant that templates is the way to go. Lr 5 beta has not changed this.
You can download Blurb Booksmart free of charge from Blurb's website. You will like the freedom of page design that Booksmart offers.
Disadvantages: Your workflow is more complicated than using the Book Module in Lr. And you are bound to print with Blurb.
With Booksmart you have to export the images from Lr to a specific folder from which Booksmart loads the images. But every time you change an image in Lr you have to export it again and load it again in Booksmart.
If you also use the Blurb plug-in for Lr you can create a Blurb Publish Service. Changes to an image that has already been published have to be re-published in Lr but the changes will "carry through" into the book automatically.
Finally, I question whether you can actually test the size of an image in the Lr Book Module by printing the page with your printer. There are reports on this forum that the printed image size is not exactly as shown in the Lr Print Module. I have observed this too with my printer. Mostly the printed image is about 1/8 of an inch larger than in the Lr Print Module. The reason might lie in how the printer translates pixels into ink droplets - just a guess of mine.

  • Lightroom 5 book module - suddenly the book 236 page book that I have been working on has mysteriously disappeared!!!  Please help, as I am starting to panick!!!

I have been working hard on making a book in the Lightroom 5 book module for the past 6 months.  I am close to being finished, and am doing my final edits.  Suddenly, my book is only appearing as a 2 page blank book under the same heading, and has no images showing.  When I go to the library, or develope module all the photos are still there, but under book module they are suddenly gone.  Please help, as I am starting to panick!

First, are you 100% certain? In Library, double click the book. Does this take you to the "2 page blank book"? I assume yes, but let's be certain.
What version of Lightroom? 5.7 is the latest.
Restore a copy of your catalogue from a recent backup. Go to the book collection in Library, right click it, and choose Export as Catalog. This should create a small catalogue containing your book. Open it, and check it's right - if not, try an earlier backup.
If it's OK, then return to your main catalogue, rename the "2 page blank book" by putting "old" on the end, and use File > Import from Another Catalogue to bring the small catalogue into it. Does this solve the problem?

  • How Do I edit/create customised page formats in Lightroom 4 Book module?

Better still, how can I import page formats already created in Blurb's BookSmart program?

  • Images Jump Around in Book Module - Has anyone seen this happen?

I have about 45 tiff files in a book collection saved in the Book module.  Once I added the last few pages, images on one page swapped with images on another page.  In addition, an extra page (images on each side, really two pages)  with the same photos would appear causing me to have duplicate pages.

I'm having the same problem, and sometimes it jumps to my entire lightroom casche and I have odd images within my book.  I have to go back to "Library" and get my quick collection.  The other thing I notice is that the text adjustment icon doesn't work most of the time, and then when it does work, the program freezes and I need to call on my task manager to close the program.  The padding controls won't stay where I've set them.  If I unlink to move text down only, it stops working, and sometimes it will also freeze.
Another thing related to "Book" is I can't go back to get another image and add it to my collection once I have saved my book.  It only remembers the images I used at the time I saved, so I have to start all over.
I know this is a Beta, but hopefully these things will be fixed.  I think it consumes a tremendous amount of RAM, so response is extremely slow, and I have a LOT of RAM.

  • How can i type in arabic in Lightroom 5 book module?

i'm trying to type in arabic in the book module but the letters are always seperated how can i fix this ?
    thank you

You get the develop module to function properly by installing the standalone installation of Lightroom. If the develop module is disabled you still have the creative cloud installation. It will have to be removed. You can download from here:
Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
Adobe - Lightroom : For Windows : Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
Performing this uninstall/reinstall will have no impact on your images or the work you have done in Lightroom. The catalog and your images are left intact.

  • How can I hide the "Add Page Text" button in Lightroom 5 Book Module

In Lightroom 5's Book Module, there is an "Add page text" button that appears when you are in either two-page or single-page view.
More often than not, it sits right on top of my photo caption text causing that text to be unreadable.
Is there an option to hide that button?

If there is no specific reason that you have to use sendredirect...thne you can try request.forward.....
    RequestDispatcher rd = request.getRequestDispatcher("pathToResource");
      rd.forward(request, response);

  • Is auto-hyphenation included in Lightroom 5 Book module ?

The Book module is almost very good indeed but seems to lack some basic text functions that anyone could benefit from: flowing paragraphs, as in InDesign, such that hyphenation makes for better text blocks, for instance. Or guides such that you can place items with some precision. Books are not just picture books in Lightroom, unlike some offers around, so more sophisticated text handling is an urgent need if, like me, you like all the rest of the Book module and want some more sophisticated text features.

This is not a known issue.  you may click the "file is missing" badge and see if the original file is still there?  if you use Smart Preview in Book module, you will still see this file is missing badge.

  • Where are the  customisable layouts in the Lightroom 6 book module?

I have just downloaded and paid for the Lightroom 6 upgrade. Blurb tells me I have over 100 customisable layouts in the book module. I don't, I only have 3 or 4 very basic ones. The Adobe TV videos talk about lots of customisable layouts. Where are they?

Feature set is currently the same Lightroom 6.0 to CC

  • Lightroom 4, book module, captions dissapearing

lightroom, book module, captions DONT appear when i save it to pdf or upload it to blurb. any suggestions?

These are both bugs that have been fixed since the LR4 beta. Thanks for bringing them up, though.

  • Lightroom 4 Book Module

I have been working with the LR-4 Book module (I have uploaded one book to Blurb already) and I'm having a couple of problems. I have watched Julianne Kost's videos several times which helped immensly. One problem: Once my pages are layed out with captions (I'm doing one image per page) I'm not able to edit the caption unless I go to the Caption Menu and uncheck the box then hit Cntl-Z to undo, then the cursor appears to allow editing. I'm on a PC with Windows 7.
Problem 2: The caption on a two-page spread shows up on the left page where I want it in the LR setup but when I export the PDF, the caption is duplicated on both pages of the two-page spread.
These might be things where I'm not doing something right but it could also be a bug in the beta - especially problem 2.

These are both bugs that have been fixed since the LR4 beta. Thanks for bringing them up, though.

  • Lightroom 5 book module trims pixels on JPEG and PDF export

I'm making a 12x12" book and want to export at 250dpi.  I'm expecting my pages to be square and exactly 3000x3000 pixles.  When I export to JPEG or PDF the pages are not square and JPEGs are 2968 x 3000.
I've seen the same question asked regarding LR4.  It appears to not have been fixed or addressed in LR5.
I'm not using Blurb to create books which I understand is the publisher that requires these odd sized pages and why LR exports pages this way.  Oddly, there is a special export for Blurb books; I wouldn't think that the generic JPEG and PDF exports should follow the Blurb standard.  Idealy, I want my JPEG exports to be two-page spreads at 6000 x 3000 pixels.  I can stitch together two pages in Photoshop easily enough, but not if the pages are not the correct size to begin with.
For now, I'll use LR5 to mock up a book and then re-create the whole thing manually in PS, which is really sad and such a waste of time given that LR is so close to being able to export exactly what I want.
Would love to see this fixed in an update soon.

These are both bugs that have been fixed since the LR4 beta. Thanks for bringing them up, though.

  • Lightroom 4, Book Module, Importing text

I want to create a poetry and photo book in Lightroom 4 and send to Blurb.  How do I import text not as a caption but as a whole page?  Thanks.   Tim

You'll need to choose a page type that allows for text. This can be done via teh drop-down menu in bottom right corner of content are or via the Page panel (see screens hot below), then copy paste text into text space as John has suggested. Note that there are numerous page types, some text with image, others text or image only.

  • Lightroom 5 book module page settings

I have previously created a photo book in Lightroom 5 using the Blurb Module (Standard Portrait).  I now want to create a new book using the same settings in InDesign.  Where can I find the margin settings used in Lightroom?

What version of Lightroom? 5.7 is the latest.

  • Lightroom 5 Book Module Question

I'm creating multiple versions of the same book (only a few pages change book to book) for my customer. Is turning off auto save and manually saving each version with a new name my best option? I worry that the autosave feature will save changes intended for the new or next book being created in the current book since that would be the book open as I'm editing. Hopefully this is making sense? Thanks for your help. Lisa
