Jpeg in camera raw on surface pro 3

when I open a jpeg on my surface pro 3 in camera raw, the adjustments don't align with the tool.
this does not happen with raw images.

Similar issues have been reported when the Display (Control Panel) size control has been set to larger expansion values, e.g. 150%.  I suspect on a Surface Pro the expansion is invoked well above 100% because of the extreme pixel density, otherwise text and icons become very small and difficult to read.
Set the value to 100% to determine if this is the problem.  If so, I see no recourse other than to report it to Adobe as a bug.

  • How to stop CS4 opening JPEGs in Camera Raw?

    Hi guys,
I'm hoping someone out there can help.  Recently for some reason CS4 decided it wanted to open all JPEGs in Camera Raw.
I am trying to restore whatever setting has changed so JPEGs open directly in Photoshop not Camera Raw.
And before anyone states the obvious yes, I have deselected "Open JPEGs in Camera Raw" under Camera Raw prefs.
I am on a mac (OS X 10.5.7) and have installed the latest updates for CS4 (Camera Raw is version 5.0.0.178).
Any (constructive) input would be welcome.  Cheers.

Generally, once a JPG has been opened in ACR and has an embedded adjustment
recipe it will continue to be opened in ACR even though you have the
preference set to not prefer ACR for JPGs.
Your verbiage is different than what I see for Camera RAW Preferences in ACR
5.4 on Windows, so maybe you need to update to the latest ACR or maybe Mac
and PC versions of ACR are different.
In my CS4 Extended (11.0.1) / Edit / Preferences / Camera RAW preferences
for ACR 5.4, down at the bottom, you can set JPG and TIFF Handling - JPEG to
Disable JPEG Support instead of Automatically open JPEGs with Settings to
make it ignore the settings in JPEG and/or TIFF files.

  • How do I open jpegs in Camera Raw?

I can't seem to find any instruction on how to open jpegs in Camera Raw. It says that it will do it, but I haven't found the way to do it. Command R is never highlighted when I'm in Bridge and click on a jpeg. Help!
    Thank you,
    Gregg

I am encountering the same problem in Bridge. Although I marked the preference to open jpeg in Camera Raw. Everytime SC3 opens with the picture.
In early July I folowwed a thread discussing the same problem - without solution. Could it be that this is a bug in Bridge and hopefully Adobe is working on an update?

  • Opening jpegs in Camera Raw 4.1?

I just received some jpegs from Getty and I decided to see what they looked like when I opened them using ACR as opposed to just opening them in PSCS3. What I found was that with the default settings the files from ACR had less saturation? The jpegs had no profile embedded, so when I opened the jpeg in PS, I assigned Adobe RGB (1998), which is what was used in ACR. I am just trying to figure out what is the benefit of opening up a jpeg in ACR?

Although recovering highlight and shadow detail will not be as dramatic when working with JPEGs in Camera Raw, I find it very useful to use the different controls to make adjustments to my images. I have also found that I have made a dramatic change in the amount of time it takes me to process a batch of images. I now routinely load groups of JPEG images into camera raw, make adjustments and synchronize all images wherever possible. It has made photo editing seem almost effortless compared to what I was doing before. I now find that I can do most of my editing in Camera Raw without ever having to open the images in Photoshop.
In many instances, I find that I can simply use the Image Processor to open my images and prepare them so that I can send them to a local lab for processing. That is one area where I find Photoshop/Bridge very useful. The only problem I'm having with Camera Raw is that I have not yet figured out how to use the redeye tool. So in my last batch of pictures of my little granddaughter, the only editing I did in Photoshop was to use the redeye tool on a couple of the pictures. Camera Raw pretty much did everything else for me.

  • Opening multiple jpegs in Camera RAW

I can open a single jpeg in Camera RAW by changing the format option to Camera RAW.  If I want to process several images at the same time, in Camera RAW, I lose the format option for Camera RAW.
Is it possible, in Elements, to open multiple jpegs in Camera RAW format?
    Mary Lou

As mentioned above that multiple JPEGs can't be opened. I am also a huge fan of Camera Raw and recently moved to Lightroom which gives wonderful flexibility to use all these controls for various file formats with ultimate ease... Would recommend to start with Trial....

  • Procedure for opening jpegs in Camera RAW

I am helping a friend who is running Elements 6 on an iMac.  I can't seem to find the setup which will allow him to open jpegs in Camera RAW.
I know this must be simple but I'm having trouble.  Thanks for your help.
    Mary Lou

Barbara, while I have your attention, one of my struggles is that my students are partly working on a Mac and some on a PC and Elements isn't identical on both platforms.
I frequently use the slideshow in Bridge on my Mac.  I took the time to watch a tutorial in Elements 7 working from Organizer.  It has so many more options than slideshow on a Mac.  Can PC users access it from the Organizer even if they aren't currently using the Organizer?  I normally teach students to control their downloads by placing images in specific folders, either in Pictures or on an external hard drive.  Will the Organizer still be available for viewing a folder of images stored elsewhere?
    Thanks,
    Mary Lou

  • Opening jpegs into camera raw

I have CS3 Windows and have been reading Kelby's book 7-Point System where he opens jpegs into camera raw. However, the explanation is poorly written for someone who has never done that. Can someone explain? Thanks.
    Don

If you use Bridge just right click on thumb and "Open in Camera RAW" is an option in menu.

  • Quality Loss when saving Jpeg from Camera Raw

I am try to do some color correction on 400 wedding photos. I open like photos in Camera Raw then synchronize, make a few additional adjustments and then save the photos as psd files. When I save the files, the quality drops dramatically. I can see pixels and jagged edges (looks like steps) on anything curved. The photographer will not give me the RAW files, so I have to work with these high quality jpegs and I would prefer to use camera raw as it is nice and easy to fix many of the photos quickly. How can I save these files so as to not lose quality? Oh, I am on a Mac.
    --K

    Ramón,
now I am quite baffled. For years ago I conducted respective tests and demonstrated, that repeated saving with the same "quality" does not introduce image deterrioration; others did the same tests and came to the same result.
Now, to be sure, I did it again, and the result contradicts my earlier findings. Although the deterrioration is after five consecutive savings practically irrecognizabe without hugely amplifying it, it is there, and that is an issue of principle.
While it is possible, that I and others made some error in those tests, the question is (for me) what causes the difference.
I verified, that the encoding parameters are unchanged. Thus the difference must come from the calculation required to transform between the original pixel values and the encoded values by
    a. the conversion between RGB and YCbCr,
    b. the discrete cosine transform (a variation of Furier transform).
However, any differences resulting from the calculation (iteration, rounding) should be eliminated by the subsequent lossy step, the "quantization" (which is an euphemism for "throwing away most of the data"). Even if there is a difference between the first and second savings, there should not be any between the fourth and fifth savings - but there is.
One explanation could be, that the encoding and decoding functions work with different precision, though this sounds very outlandish.
    Anyway, darn.
Re the encoding parameters: they *have to be* stored in the JPEG file, otherwise the data could not be decoded, except by that program, which knows the parameters. However, JPEG is not designed for human consumption but for computers (this fact makes testing a program, which reads or writes JPEG data a serious PITA). The metadata can be analyzed only by a hex editor, and one has to know the structure of that data.
Re knowing, if the file has to be compressed or not: JPEG is *always* encoded. There are different variants of the encoding method, but there is no "unencoded" version.

  • In Bridge, can't open jpeg in camera raw

I have CS3 installed on several computers. On one of them, apparently Bridge and/or Raw never updated to the ability to open a jpeg in Raw. I can do this on the other computers. When I suggest running updates, it says none are needed. I'm confused.
    Mike

    Jim,
Actually I'd only discovered this feature recently as Bridge was not program of choice - my 7 yr. old system didn't have resources to handle PS and Bridge well simultaneously, having only 512 MB RAM. Was lucky to run Photoshop alone, s_l_o_w_l_y on a P4. This all changed with 4GB RAM and a dual core. What a relief.
Old system dubbed 'Frankenstein' sits networked in pasture in case of need for XP dependent programs or external bkups which no longer run in Vista without wiping data and reformatting. Fortunately won't need them to thanks to networking the two. Only thing not supported by Camera RAW is .bmp which I'll convert. Files from scans years ago of old photos before understanding formats. Live n' learn.
Much of the time I use Lightroom in lieu of Bridge, but there are times it comes in handy for quick access. Now that Lightroom 2 works interactively with Photoshop it's made this less necessary, but still have uses for both.
    John~
You are indeed fortunate Vista is your friend. Must have plenty of RAM to run 64 bit. I on the other hand run 32 and intend to downgrade next fresh install so previous peripheral investments work again. Did not play nicely and Microsoft failed to support their own products, deserving a hall of shame award IMO. Still waiting for MS's next OS, as functional and non functional skip generations with that company.
Close friend also loves Vista, but couldn't help noticing he runs an XP machine on the side like myself.... hehe just in case for specific needs. I'm sure he wouldn't mind my saying we are both happy for you though. ;^D Whatever works. Each person has different needs as always.

  • No longer capable of opening TIFF or JPEG in Camera Raw

    Hi,
I was able, initially, to open TIFF, JPEG and even PSD files in Camera Raw , but today I installed an HP image application that came with my iPAQ and have found that I no longer can open these files with Camera Raw from Bridge (or from anywhere else for that matter).
what can I do to restore the previous behavior?
I am doing this now to see: open Control Panel and click on Photoshop CS3 and select reinstall. I don't know if this will work. Any ideas?

I think this is a problem caused by memory fragmentation during the use of Bridge and Photoshop. I find that right after I start the two programs everything works the way it should. But then things gradually start to bog down, and eventually the TIF or JPEG images will not open in Camera Raw. When this happens I generally turn to the "Open As" option in Photoshop knowing that things will be better tomorrow. And they usually are. I think this is probably a problem that is more common with Windows users than those who are using a Mac. I believe Adobe concentrated more on the recoding for the Mac than they did on verifying everything for Windows users. Apparently "real" Photoshop users only work on a Mac. Those of us who are on Windows are just wannabes. :)

  • JPEG 2000  & Camera Raw?

I converted a nef  and a regualr jpeg to a Jpeg 2000 picture and used the various save options as a test.  In all cases I can not open it in camera raw, that option is grayed out.  Is this by design?
I notice in Bridge Camera Raw Preferences  there are only options for jpeg and tiff images to be opened in camera raw.  Is this an oversight?
Also, using Bridge one can not add keywords as the message appears "xxxxx.jpf can not store XMP metadata".
In Windows Explorer the add tags box does not appear as an option either, so it can't be blamed on Bridge.
Has any one else experienced these problems with j2000 images?  Is jpeg 2000 ahead of the curve, or just a flash in the pan?

I understand that a flattened image composite is stored when PSD compatibility is set, but I didn't know it was a JPEG (or that there's a JPEG preview in a PSD file at all, save for maybe a thumbnail).
Can you clarify that?  Is this JPEG preview you speak of the flattened composite, or are we talking about yet a different preview?
And do we lose more than just layers, but also color depth when we re-open a PSD through Camera Raw?

  • How can I open (and edit) multiple jpegs in camera raw?

I am able to open only one at a time. I tried holding the shift and command keys down to select multiple images and I cannot seem to do it.
    thank you

It’s only possible to open jpegs one at a time in Camera Raw.
You need Lightroom 3 to be able to do multiple edits simultaneously - there is a free trial for 30 days.

  • CS4 Bridge does not open JPEGs in Camera Raw 5.6 which is grey

I downloaded Camera Raw 5.6 onto my iMac (Snow Leopard).   I have an Olympus E-620.   ORFs (raw) open in bridge, but the Camera Raw is greyed out in the file menu.   Also, Camera Raw does not show up under "open with".   My husband has iMac (same configuration) - his Camera Raw 5.6 shows up and he can open up JPEGs in RAW, which I cannot.   I checked his settings against mine - seem to be the same.   Suggestions???

Purge the cache for those folders and if that doesn't work, trash the Preferences for Bridge.

  • Cannot open jpeg in camera raw photoshop cc

I can open the jpeg file in photoshop cc and in bridge. If I try to open in photoshop cc using open as (windows 7 32 bit) I get an error message "Could not complete your request because the file-format cannot parse the file" when I select camera raw. If I open the jpeg directly in photoshop cc, the file opens ok and then I can use camera raw thru filters. The file will open fine in camera raw via bridge.  This same jpeg file opens fine in camera raw using phtoshop cs6.
    thanks
    Denis

I am experiencing this same problem. The file was created by xray software. It opens with Windows Photo just fine. This problem was never answered for DenisL111. Why is that?
