When I use digital photographs (jpeg) in my videos the become elongated (i.e.squished) and I can't figure out what to do to keep them in their original proportion. Any ideas?

I am using a Mac and when I save my files as a jpeg, the files become much smaller, and consequently darker and blurrier.  What can I do to fix this?  I have tried to figure out how to chat with someone at Adobe, but they certainly don't make it easy to do.  At the moment, this program is useless to me.  Very depressing....

    Hello,
I would like to inform you that not all the browsers and online PDF readers support copying text from a PDF. If you have opened the PDF online, please download PDF file to your computer and then open the file in Adobe Reader.
Please share a screenshot if the issue still persists.

  • JPEG Signature Block becomes too large as Mail Signature

I'd like to create a signature block to include in Apple Mail.  I have created an appropriately sized one in an image program, but when I drag and drop that jpeg into Apple Mail, it becomes larger, too large for my purposes and too large for the people receiving it.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Not sure what OS you're on, but...
    Might see if this helps...

  • Importing jpegs at 720x540 export squished

    Hair pulling out time.
    Images are 720x540 square pixels.
    Sequence is 720x540 Sq. 4:3
    pixel aspect is NTSC
Looks perfect in FCP. If I export to Compressor or QuickTime, the images are squished horizontally. The images are straight out of a digital still camera. I resized them from giant size 3072x2304 (4:3) in Photoshop. Didn't touch the aspect ratio.
    Questions:
What can I do to fix this?
What technically is going on here?

It's tricky business. I found a useful chart for graphics in a book called Final Cut Power Skills.
[ The project is a slideshow of 300 images from a digital still camera. Output to SD DVD. ]
The images at 720x540 square pixels are okay. Where I got into trouble, and where I came up with those non-standard format choices resulted from settings that made the photos look good in Final Cut. And that's where the post here came from. Looks great in Final Cut, but looks squished on DVD.
I used a "phone a friend" lifeline and I never would have figured it out otherwise. The new (correct, standard, and appropriate) settings look squished in FCP, but export and look fantastic on SD DVD, which is what matters most.
It's tricky though. Images are 720x540, but the FCP frame size is 720x480. (whoa!) The pixel aspect ratio is set to square. Put those both together and squish-o-rama. Yet, it pops out of compressor DVD ready looking exactly correct at 4:3.
There's a lot of instruction on creating graphics, but not much for what to do with what you already have. I might post a recipe in this forum.

  • JPEGs elongated

when I use jpegs as part of the video, when the video is exported and I watch the video, the jpeg are warped (elongated, squished) I've tried everything I know and can't seem to get FCP to stop doing it. Any ideas?

I believe FCP will interpret what to do with a picture that needs tweeking when imported. This can not always have the desired outcome, so the best bet is to feed FCP the right thing. Your photos could be in sq pixels, 720x540 say. Output an image in rect. pix (perhaps called d1 ntsc or something in photoshop) 720x486 for import into fcp.

  • Easy way of selecting JPEGs paired with RAW twin

I really need an easy way to select JPEG files that become redundant because I also have the RAW files. Single JPEGs should then be left out.

  • My jpeg file sizes are much larger than they used to be.

Just recently the file sizes on my .jpeg files have become excessively larger than they used to be just a week or so ago. Where I used to go almost a week to need to archive to DVD a bunch of saved images, I've now got to save to DVD almost daily.
For example, a 300x300 pixel image which shoud be about 32 Kb reads 383 Kb in the finder. I'm not doing anything to these images, just draging and droping.
Where I used to get 7 K files on a DVD, I'm now getting less than 2 K files to each disc.
Any thoughts on what's changed and how to fix it?

  • Gif@jpeg as map

    Hi,
I would like to know how to insert gif@jpeg file to become Image object and after that as a Graphics object. Actually, I want to make that gif@jpeg file as a background(map) and I can click to that map to extract the coordinate for the specific city.
below i list my "not working" coding
    Image img = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage("kedah.gif");
    Graphics g = img.getGraphics();
I found that method createImage() from Component class is working to create Image object but with parameter as below..
public Image createImage(int width, int height)
Anybody can help to solve my problem?

This would depend on the release date. We have an application that our major client has used for a number of years which uses the SVG base maps only. We would like to migrate it to use oracle maps, we would need a time scale to present to our client so that they can decide how much to invest. The application is due for a revamp, given that Adobe no longer support the plugin it would make sense to move away from it, especially for cross browser and next gen windows support.

  • Problems with keeping 4:3 and 16:9 dimensions

I'm relatively inexperienced with DVD SP, particularly when it comes to working with 16:9.
I've made a DVD with 4 different tracks - 3 tracks are originally 16:9 footage exported to .m2v using Compressor's DVD export settings (best quality - 120 minutes), while the 4th track is SD footage.
When I play the DVD on a widescreen TV, I get the exact opposite of what I want - the 16:9 footage is unnecessarily letterboxed (rather than filling the TV's 16:9 dimensions), and thus becomes squashed, while the 4th track (the SD one) becomes stretched and completely fills the TV.
When I play the same DVD on a 4:3 TV, the 16:9 footage rather than being letterboxed and keeping its 16:9 dimension, it fills the TV completely becoming squished in the process.
Finally, when I play the DVD on my computer, all the dimensions are exactly as they should be.
Advice on what I should be looking for to get these settings right would be much appreciated.

Sounds like the setup in the DVD-player is wrong. Enter the menu in the DVD set-top player, and tell it what kind of TV you are using (4:3/16:9).
Also make sure that you have tagged the tracks in DVDSP correctly. In the Inspector, select 4:3 for the 4:3 track, and 16:9 Letterbox for the 16:9 tracks.

  • Bug? Images look different in photoshop

    Hi,
Am hoping somebody can help me as I must be doing something really stupid here. I'm currently evaluating various workflow products, and really like Lightroom but find that whenever I import an image into LR the tones, particular shadow tones, look way too dark. They look kinda posterised.
My monitor is color calibrated with a spyder. I am running Windows XP.
I've attached a link to an image to demonstrate. I took an sRGB JPEG and imported into LR. I then edited a copy in PS (exported as ProPhoto - converted in PS to Adobe 1988 colorspace), another copy is shown exported to Capture NX (also Adobe colorspace).
    http://www.hamiltonconsulting.net/strange%20tones.jpg
if you look at the shadow tones in the folds of the jacket you can see a minor difference between PS and Capture NX but you can see a clear difference in LR. The shadows are way darker.
The image opens fine it every other application I have tried, including the free XP viewers. LR is doing something strange to the file but I cant work out what.
I first noticed the problem occuring in Beta 4.1 and am now getting the same issue in the new Lightroom demo ( I had hoped it was a bug that would have been fixed). I have been installing all sorts of evaluation software of late, so maybe something hasnt been cleaned out of my registry, or something is clashing.
So far, I've tried lots of different images (all with the same problem). Recreating an image database. Reinstalling LR (countless times).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can try or do I need to reinstall my entire PC

Yeah dude, that totally makes sense.
"I notice blocking... that... really is a function of lighting..."
Is that some sort of new-age yet-unheard-of phenomenon? If so, please elaborate by all means.
The point is that the image looks like crap displayed in the 'Library' module of LR, but looks fine in any other program. Because no other program is content with sitting around and displaying to you a low quality JPEG preview of your, say, high quality 16-bit uncompressed TIFF image.
That's why there's no blocking in the image loaded up in Photoshop. Yet it's there in LR because LR doesn't bother to render the image 'on-the-fly' until you step into the 'Develop' module.
You don't believe me? Then be happy in your ignorance.
On another note, though, instead of jacking it up to 400% when it's clearly evident at 100%, try calibrating your monitor with a hardware profiler so dark parts of images don't become a muddy mess of blacks. Be forewarned though that it's a double-edged sword: on the one hand, after calibration, you suddenly begin to see details in shadows that you may never before have seen; on the other hand, JPEG artifacts & noise in dark portions of images (inherent to JPEG compression) also become as apparent. Hence, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and figure you just can't see the blocking due to your monitor.
Finally, on a LR-unrelated note, why don't you come back to these forums when you're ready to write posts free of cheap ignorant insults?

  • Loaded PHP Image works on Windows but not Mac

I have a php file that generates a string image, the php file

If you view the php file it self it will display the image

  • How to import RAW+JPG?

I recently acquired a Canon 30D and am now able to save my images in RAW+JPG format, which gives me the normal RAW (CR2) file and a JPEG file for each capture. This is handy for using the picture styles where the RAW is the normal full capture of colour while the JPEG is processed according to the selected picture style giving, for example, a monochrome image.
When I try to import these from the card the preview displays thumbnails only of the JPEG images but only the CR2 files appear to be imported. However, looking at the folder on disk reveals that the JPEG files have also been imported but are simply not displayed within Lightroom itself.
I could of course work with the JPEG files outside of my Lightroom library but would prefer not to do so. How can I get the JPEG files to become part of the library so that I can work with them in Lightroom?

A search for RAW + JPEG brings up a page load of pertinent entries for me.

  • Export file size is different from the original raw size

Could someone explain to why, when the original size of a raw file in a folder is about 11mb. But when in Lightroom is shows about 7.1mb. When I export it to a jpeg the size becomes around 3.5mb.
I know that sRAW1 file is 7.1mb as stated in the book. But why does it go down to about 3.5mb when exported to jpeg.
Is there a way to export it to the a higher size? Like 7.1
    I used sRAW1 in a canon 50D.
    Thanks,
    Ray

The "actual" size of you images file is measured by this basic formula, 8-bits is one byte. Each pixel has one byte for the Red, one byte for the Green, and one byte for the Blue colour channels. So, we have 3 bytes per pixel. Multiply the total number of Mega Pixals of your camera's sensor by 3 and you have the true size of an 8 bit image file.
How this image will end up in a final file size depends upon the amount of compression you choose to apply.
The more complex the image, the harder it is to compress without some degradation of image quality. So the original size of an image will not always be a guide to its size when compress. For instance an image with little or no sharpening applied will compress to a much smaller size than the same image with a large amount of sharpening even though the same compression settings were used on export.
If you wish to resize your images on export from LR in specific megapixals (and therefore MB's) then LR/Mogrify has this functionality.
There is a nice simple explanation of this here
