JPEG is corrupted when saved in B&W from RAW

Hi,
today I ran into this issue when saving black and white pictures from Raw file.
Camera RAw 7.3 opens normally just like always and lets me save picture in color.
It lets me save picture in BW, but the JPEG tha comes out is corrupted file that looks like this (see below):
When i try to open that corrupted JPEG in Photoshop 6 I get an error message saying:
"The embedded ICC profile cannot be used because ICC profile is invalid. Ignoring the profile. "
After clicking "continue" on the error message I am able to load the picture in PS6- however when i go to Image>Mode picture is appearing a RGB, not a Greyscale as it should be.
Any ideas why this is gappening an how to fix it?
It seems that new Raw Plug In is casuing it- I uninstalled Photoshop, installed Camera Raw 7.2 and its seemed to be OK. As soon I upgraded to 7.3 I get the same error.
is there a way to downgrade it to 7.2 without uninstalling PS6? Manual download and rewriting 7.2 over .3 doesn't seem to work.
Thanks!

I can confirm the issue...it's been reported. In the meantime, actually opening the image into Photoshop and saving as a JPEG works...you could simply open the image into Photoshop to save as JPEG or adjust the images in ACR and then use Image Processor from Bridge. And no, you can't easily install 7.2 over 7.3. Since both are not currently offered as seperate downloads (updater only) you would have to find the 7.2 download...the Mac and Windows downloas are mentioned in this thread.

Recently I have been creating invitations in illustrator but when I save them as a JPEG file it says file corrupted when I try to upload them for printing. How can I fix this without creating an entirely new invitation?

Why are you saving as jpeg for print out of Illustrator? Work in CMYK and save as pdf.
Working in CMYK means that, provided your monitor is calibrated correctly, what you see is what you get.
You may be in for an unpleasant surprise if you work in those nice, bright RGB colours and they come out all dull and muddy when printed.
Pdf means that vector art remains as vector art. It is bad Latin to pixellate things when you don’t need to.

  • PSDs are occassionally corrupting when saving.

    OS 10.4.11 / G5 Tower
Every so often this particular Mac will save PSD files (CS 3) which we find are corrupt when trying to open again. Maybe 1 out of 10 files. And since we are a photoshop-heavy shop - 1 out of 10 is a lot.
Any suggestions why this might be happening/how to fix?
    Thanks!

Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Embedded Excel in Word 2003 document Becomes Corrupt when Saved

We have a Word 2003 document with Embedded Excel sheets in it.  When this document is saved and reopened, you cannot edit the excel tables, you just get the message "document corrupt, no longer available".
Detect and Repair doesn't fix it, it seems to make the excel table a picture or object that cannot be edited.
What is the fix for this?

    Hi
This problem may occur if both of the following conditions are true:
You installed Office XP SP-2 or Office 2000 SP-3.
You are running one of the following Norton AntiVirus or Norton SystemWorks programs:
    Norton AntiVirus 2003

  • Email Attachment Corrupted when saved

I have an iMac with OSX 10.6.7 and a Fusion Virtual Machine running Windows 7.
I have recently downloaded a dev app for my VM to convert .php files.  The vendors have sent the app licence by email.  On saving the attachment using Office for Mac 11 (outlook) to my desktop the file is corrupted, also if I just drag it. (this is as a .lic file or as as.zip file).
The vendor support has sent me the following:
    Hi,
The license you sent is corrupted, we're not sure how you're saving it, but it has Mac end of line symbols in it, maybe you're saving it as text and Mac changes the line endings for you (or maybe your email client is doing it for you). It's first time when you experienced such issue.
We're sending a license for you in a zip file, please try to save it as a binary so nothing in the file will be changed.
    Thank you,
    Support.
I have also requested the file be sent to my Mail account but I rec it without the attachment?
    Thank you,
    David.

    Greetings David,
If the activation file is intended for use with a Windows app running through fusion, it might be helpful to access the email with that file attached from within the Windows environment rather than on the Mac side.  If you don't have a Mail client installed in Windows, check the email account they are emailing to using Webmail instead.
    Cheers.

  • Where did the .jpeg option go when saving?

I used to be able to save a .cr2 file that I had edited in the .jpeg format.  For some reason that is no longer offered as an option in the drop down menu  when I use 'save as'.  Where did the .jpeg option go?

It's not there because the CR2 image is using 16-bit color.
    Either:
Change the bit depth in Camera RAW to 8-bit before opening it in the Editor.
In the Editor, use Image...Mode...8 bits/channel.

  • Word for mac 2011 - jpeg images vanish when saved as pdf

The subject box pretty much explains the problem! I've tried ticking the 'drawing objects' box in preferences, and unchecking the 'image placeholders', but I still get pdfs with just a blank space where my word .docx has an image. help!

Since Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products, and Word is made by Microsoft you should really consider posting your question on MS's own forums for their Mac software

  • Preview deletes info when saving a pdf form from the IRS

This is driving me CRAZY. I have been working on my tax forms which have all been saved from the internet as a pdf through preview. When I go into the file to update numbers and try to save the file  with the updated information, it won't let me. It will only let me do a "save as". If I do a "save as" and name the file the same as before (replaces original) or if I rename it, the pdf will save, but any data that I did not type in in the most recent session is deleted. So, when I open up my taxes and change a few numbers, the new numbers are saved, but all the rest of my data from before is deleted. It is making me want to scream. It does this repeatedly to different forms saved from the IRS' website and my local state's revenue website and on different days and with a shutdown in between. It isn't the websites, it is preview!
Oh, and just for info, sometimes preview will let me save the data I have updated and I don't lose anything, but then I can make a couple of more changes, go to save and the ability to "update" my current file with "save" isn't highlighted, only the "save as".
This is a brand new macbook pro, only a couple of months old. It has Preview version 5.0.3. I have done all updates that the computer has downloaded.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks,
    Kristie

Preview suck!!! Please for your own sanity use acrobat to edit PDF. Get it from adobe.com

  • Data Corrupted when using CREATE AS SELECT * FROM over DB LINK

    Hi ,
I wonder if anyone has suffered a simillar issue as this:
I have a DB Link Between a 10gR1 (Base install not patched) database on Windows 2003, and a 10gR2 (with latest Patch Database ) on Sun Solaris. The 10.1 DB is the SOURCE 10.2 is TARGET
When using a statement like the following on the Target :
CREATE TABLE a AS SELECT * FROM TABLE a@SOURCE
The statement completes, however for some (not all) tables, the data content is seriously corrupted, I noticed this when trying to apply a UKey on the newly created table in TARGET. The data was completely messed up for around 600 out of 450000 rows, I could not easily tell which rows were messed up as it was the columns that build the UKey that were affected :-(
The same happens if I precreate the table and use INSERT /*+APPEND*/ INTO AS SELECT.... etc
I realise that using an unpatched 10.1 is not nessasarily advisable, however currently it is difficult for us to patch or upgrade the DB...
If anyone has seen this before an/or has any ideas what might be the cause , I would appreciate any help I can get.
    Cheers

The Problem Manifest itsself in that some fileds are created with incorrect Values, specificaly in easy to identify cases NULL where the original values where not NULL.
These field do not contain special chars like ä or ß , so it does not seem to indicate a charset issue.

  • When saving, Photoshop strips metadata from files critical to a workflow

Apple uses some extended attributes in their Spotlight indexed file metadata. When you open a file, make a change, and save it the metadata is gone.
As an example, an image from the web will have an extended attribute of kMDITemWhereFroms identifying the source URL. It also refers to email messages a file may have come from.
This is VERY useful information but the saving process destroys it!! This is critical to my workflow that this information (along with other extended attributes) be maintained! Can someone shed some light on this? If not, can anyone direct me to someone who can??
    Thanks.
    * Note: The same problem exists with Illustrator (CS3/CS4)

Jim - of course the original is not retained: the apps are doing a safe save (where you save to a new filename, then replace the original with the duplicate in a semi-atomic way). This is done using standard OS APIs whenever possible, and is done in most applications. All file saves in Photoshop behave the same way, except maybe PDF (which is in some code we don't control) and SaveForWeb (also different code).
Again, the root cause is an Apple bug in the way they chose to associate metadata with the files, and how they updated existing APIs to deal with the additional metadata. We might be able to work around this using new APIs -- but should apps have to change their code every time someone decides to add new metadata invisible to the app and separate from the file? Shouldn't the design of the metadata system be more robust, and work with existing applications? Shouldn't someone have thought about this before releasing a metadata system, that, well, nobody knew about?

  • Read-only access when saving metadata to file from Adobe Lightroom on a MAC OS to Windows shared drive

We have a group of 5 people editing and indexing photos to a shared drive on a windows server, everyone has its own catalog and working on different folders to avoid any locking conflicts.
The windows computers don't have any problems but the Mac's don't write the updated metadata to all files because they get the message "Photos have read-only access".
    The environment is the following:
    2x Macs workstations running:
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    - iMAC with MAC OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
    3x Windows Workstations:
    - Windows 7
    - Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5.7.1
    Server:
    - Shared drive on a Windows Server 2012 Standard
I have searched the internet, no one has this problem with this exact setup but I have tried all the solutions I found, namely:
    1. Connect to the network drive with cifs:// protocol
    2. Change the settings of the nsmb.conf for 'smb1_only' protocol
    3. Mount the drive manually by command line
    Nothing worked, any ideas?

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?  I have the same issue and wonder if Lightroom 6 will resolve it.  I  tried AFP, SMB2, SMB3 and they all failed to save metadata randomly. When I use NFS from OS X then it works fine but it's a little slower than SMB and it's not as native as the mount via AFP or SMB, so it's harder to maintain.     My server is a FreeNAS 9.2 (FreeBSD) which is running Samba, Netatalk and native NFS.

  • Crash when saving photo when contact edit screen open - anyone else?

On two separate iPhones I have experienced a crash when saving a photo taken from "inside" the contacts edit screen. In both cases the photo app would capture the image and attempt to save. The screen goes black for about 5 seconds then returns to the home screen. The photo is not in the camera roll and the image container on the contact editor screen is empty.
    iPhone G3, 16GB, v2.2 <--both phones tested
Sequence: Open Contacts, locate existing entry, tap "edit", tap "add photo", tap "take photo", shoot picture, tap "set photo", system shows "saving photo" pinwheel, then screen goes black.
Doesn't happen every time. One instance corrupted the mail application and applied a false name in the "from" field for many of my emails. Remedy: Reload v2.2 software and restore from backup.
    Anyone else see this behavior?

I have had this same problem. As best I can recall, I have the problem every time. I've certainly updated software, reset software and reinstalled 2.2 for my phone, for other reasons. And, I've gotten another friend to duplicate the problem. My workaround is to save the contact info and then take the picture from the camera and then reopen and edit the contact and add the picture. It's just that, sometimes, I make a leap of faith and try to take a save a picture from within the contacts. It's a teeny, minor embarassment when I then have to ask a person for their info again, as the contact crashes before it's been saved.
Mostly, I'd enjoy the elegance of being able to add contacts and their photo at the same time. I know that's what is intended by Apple.
I don't intend to newly install 2.2 software, etc. with my iPhone to try and solve this problem. Just seems like a waste of time at the moment. I just want to state that it's a problem and it would be meaningful for Apple to correct this in 3.0
Life with the iPhone hasn't been perfect, but it has been awesome!

  • Permissions Not Preserved When Saving/Copying to OS X 10.4 Server

    The Setup:
One G4 Running Mac OS X 10.4 Server
    6 Clients Running OS X 10.4
    2 Clients Running OS X 10.5
    The Problem:
When saving or copying documents from one of the 10.5 clients to the 10.4 server, group write permissions are not preserved.
    What I've Done:
Changed the umasks on the 10.4 machines to 002 so that the group would have write permissions. This worked fine on those machines. Files created on those computers have group write enabled. Files saved or copied from those computers to the server have group write enabled.
Changed the umasks on the 10.5 machines to 002 (by creating /etc/launchd-user.conf per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2202). Files created on these machines have group write enabled. If I save a file directly from an App on these machines to the server, group write is not enabled. If I copy a file with group write enabled from one of these machines to the server, group write will be disabled on the copy on the server.
I tried disabling ACLs on the 10.5 clients. Made no difference.
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Same boat, the best I came up with was a cron job to fix permissions every 5 minutes. I'm about to do some heavey testing to see if I can figure anything out.

  • Photoshop CS4 "Freezes" when saving as a JPEG

I have been using Photoshop CS4 with SnowLeopard and my MacPro for months now without a problem. I save multiple images everyday, often as JPEGs for the Web. But today, out of the blue with nothing changing (no new updates, or plugins), Photoshop "locks up" when saving a JPEG. I can still move the curser arrow, but everything is dead and the file did not save. I have to hit ESC just to get PS back online. I can save other file types, no problem.
Has anyone experienced this? Any help or solutions? I have the latest version of PS CS4.
(Note: If I go under Save for Web & Devices I can save it as a JPEG, but seems like an less than timely run-around)

I have not experienced that problem, but with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems You might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences You’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, etc.) might also be beneficial.

You know that you lost the layers when you saved it as a jpeg, right? But you're saying you can't add layers to the jpeg now when it's open in the editor? Go to Image>mode and be sure it's RGB, for starters. Are all the commands in the Layer menu grayed out?
