JPEG Movie Segment Work

Hi,
I have a jpeg movie file 60 mins long and a text file tell me five time-lines for breaking the movie. For example, break the movie at 10:21, 16:05
The final output should be five small jpeg movie files. Each file contains a 90 sec (30 sec before the break time and 60 sec after the break time).
Do you know any java library (jar) contain the library that can help me on programming this? Any existing source code? Any SDK for a movie editor can do that?
Please help.
Thanks
Kenny

Please reffer to the java media framework.
(this is not a java 3d releated topic)

Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.

  • Text/character overlay on a movie segment in imovie08?

I have several movie segments that I am putting together to form one movie. On the first segment, I want to put an arrow/carot to point out one person. The segment is about 15 seconds long, and I want the arrow to appear for about 2 seconds near the beginning of the segment. From what I have found in the forums, is that with imovie08 the only way to achieve this is to create a picture outside of imovie with the arrow in the picture, and then put that picture in the movie. I have not gone through this procedure as I am not sure I have the write software to do this. I have only just purchased my macbook pro about 3 weeks ago, and only have the software that came out with it. So, I don't know if the software I need to create this picture, with the transparent background, is on my machine. That would be my first question, if there is software with the basic software loaded on the machine that will do this and if so what is the name.
Next, even if I do that, this seems like a very hit or miss involved process (controlling the length of time it shows by having stub movie segment...etc). Searching the internet, there is an external package for the imovie06 (that I pulled down because of all the forum posts complaining about the lack of capabilities in imovie08), that appears to do this as a plugin. My next question would be, if this is possible with a plugin, is there a basic text overlay integrated with imovie06 that may be easier to use? Or, in order to take advantage of this, would I have to purchase the external plugin. This seems like a waste since the imovie08 doesn't support plugins and this plugin would only work in imovie06.
This is not completely necessary for what I need, and is probably the limit to what I would "edit" the movie segments. Hence, I do not need to buy some extra video editing software. I just thought it would add a little extra for the consumers of my video. But, if I have to go through so much effort for a small bit of flash, it is not worth it. Am I missing something?

Can't say I fully understand everything your trying to do, but I gather you want to add a carrot and some text as an overlay with as little extra software as possible.
I'd google for an image of a carrot, photoshop is the ideal tool to remove the background but you can do it with a word processor and preview if you must. As for text, you can simply use the titles supplied or for extra glamour there's an application called art text (quite cheap) you could use and introduce in much the same way as the carrot.

  • JPEG market segment length is too short

In copying a series of folders containing JPEGs, PSDs and RAW files (Canon .CR2 and Hasselblad .3F) to a new external drive (Mac OSX), there was a hiccup and a large number of the copied image files contain red dots next to them in the finder window. The files are named correctly and contain the full data size of the originals, but when attempting to open a JPEG I get the following error message:
Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete).
When attempting to open a .PSD file the message is:
Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document.
When attempting to open the RAW file in Bridge, the message is:
Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file.
In the Get Info window, all three file types are correctly identified as Adobe Photoshop files, Adobe Photoshop JPEG files and Camera RAW files, and each is the correct size it should be.
This happened to some, but not all of the files on the drive, and it appears to have happened randomly. I have run Data Rescue on the drive, but the rescued file still have the red dots and do not open. I've also tried other file recovery programs, as well as Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery and Jpeg Repair utilities, all to no avail.
I've tried renaming the files, and opening them from other programs such as preview, iPhoto and Lightroom. Still no luck.
I'm hoping someone has another angle for me. The data is there; it's obvious something happened that is preventing the files from opening, but it seems there should be some fix for this.
    TIA

Your opening statement said you were copying,  not moving the files.
If you were Moving the files, then the routine that was doing the moving erases behind unless they are coming from a CDROM or a write protected device..
Those files are essentially corrupted or incompatible with CC.
Did those files open okay where ever they lived before they were moved?
What was the "hiccup" that you mentioned?   A Power Hiccup ?  Then these files are toast if indeed there were in the middle of a Move..
Were you using Finder to do this task?

  • A jpeg marker segment length is too short

While imaging with my Canon T1i last night with my astro club I took probably 75 or 80 pics.  Halfway through the session, my battery low indicator came on, so I changed the battery but may not have turned off the camera....I can't remember.....as I continued to shoot and review the images, everything looked and worked fine.   When I returned home and got up this a.m. to review the pics, the last half could not be be opened.   I usually insert my SD card in my laptop to review first before I transfer them over.  I kept getting this error on the last half of the images I took :" a jpeg marker segment length is too short. The file may be truncated or incomplete."  Anybody seen this or have any experience with this?  Is there any way to recover and otherwise save these images?  Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.  By not turning the camera off while changing batteries, could that be the reason for the error message?  Thanks,  Gary

It could be any one of a number of things such as the files being corrupted as the camera was writing them to the card, or a faulty card, a faulty USB connection or cable, etc.
Use only high quality cards ans cables, preferably use a card reader, be careful how you handle the camera, how you change batteries, etc.  Common sense practices.

I updated to Mavericks and a bunch of my info deleted.  I tried opening a previous iDVD I made, but when I click on it, it says to look for themes.  How do I get my movie to work?  Thanks.

Did you do an erase and install of Mavericks?  If not look in the HD/Library/Application Support folder for an iDVD folder.  There should be a Themes folder in it. If it's not there look in your Home/Library/Applications Suport folder for the iDVD folder.
NOTE: In Mavericks, 10.9,  the Home Library is invisible so go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:
Select Show Library Folder.  Now you can check to see if the iDVD folder in there.
If you find the iDVD folder launch iDVD, go to its Advanced preference pane and point iDVD to the Themes folder:
If you can't find the Themes folder you'll need to reinstall iDVD from the source you installed it from originally, i.e. the disks that came with your Mac or an iLife 09 or 11 disk.

  • Fast Start Quicktime Movies Wont Work

I dont know why Fast Start Quicktime movies wont work in iWeb. This exact same file I used in a site I created using Dreamweaver began the movie as soon as it reached a point where the entire movie could be viewed. Why not in iWeb?
    http://catchthemoment.net/simpsons/simpsons/Valentines.html
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

For whatever reason, iWeb publishes the quicktime movies with the autostart attribute at "false". To enable autostart, you will need to edit the html file after publishing and set the autostart attribute to "true". Even though autostart may have been enabled within the movie encoding process ("in the file"), I believe that this property is allowed to be overridden by the html attributes within which the file is published.
There is a table of all the attributes that can be changed floating around here somewhere. Keep in mind that these post-publishing changes that you might make will be overwritten in any subsequent changes that you might make to the page within iWeb.

  • I can't import my movies to work on them. They are coming from a external hard drive, not directly from the camera, its type mpeg-e (.mts)

    My movies are type MPEG-2
I can't import my movies to work on them. They are coming from a external hard drive, not directly from the camera, its type mpeg-2 (.mts)
    What can I do ?

    1. Is your external HD connected by firewire?
    2. mpeg2 is the final compressed delivery format of a DVD, not intended for editing, and iMovie cannot handle such files, so you need to convert them first:
    For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.

  • JPEG marker segment length error - file not corrupt

I have 2 workstations in my suite. Both Win7...both CS5.5 ver. 12.1.x64.  My "old" box (Z400) can open the JPEG no problem....My "new" box (Z820) gives me the error.
I have copied the file a few different ways so I know it is not corrupt.
Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The error is "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment length is too short (the file may be truncated to incomplete).
    I'll try the preferences resetting.
    Thanks for the quick responses.

  • Updateing movies in itunes then movie wont work???

hi there can anyone help me with this promlem!
when i try to change the name or put the artwork on some of my movies in itunes, it wont do it then the file/movie wont work??
does anyone know what the problem is?
    any advice would be great.

Whilst I'm not absolutely sure what happens to the macroblock count when using the anamorphic flag, plain old mpeg4 does have low limits compared to AVC and I suspect you may be exceeding the mpeg4 resolution limit of 720 x 432. I feel that if you were to use AVC rather than mpeg4 your problem may well disappear. Your encoding times will increase, but so will your quality, mpeg4 at 1500 kbps is not really the best quality. Think of mpeg4 quality being half that of AVC at the same resolution, so your output quality is equivalent to AVC at 750 kbps, I use AC at 2500 kbps and many go even higher.

  • QuickTime Pro failing to join movie segments

Using QuickTime Pro with Tiger, I find that 9 times out of 10, attempts at joining movie segments (of the same origin) using cut and paste are failing. What happens is that the segments are apparently joined succesfully, inasmuch as they play back properly after pasting, but when saved as a .mov file, when the end of the first segment is reached, the window freezes on the last frame of the first segment while still continuing to move forward. The size of the saved .mov file suggests that it includes all the pasted segments, but QT is unable to move past the end of the first (or sometimes a subsequent) segment. This is happening in so many cases as to make QTPro almost useless for the purpose.
Incidentally, when copied to a Windows computer and joined with other software, the same movie segments join together without any problem, thus suggesting that the problem lies with QT rather than with the files themselves. Any suggestions?

QT does not support the export of sound from muxed mpeg files nor the editing of such filesQT Mpeg Limitations
This freeware will allow some editing of mpegs without re-encoding and will allow you to export both sound and video to other formats, such as DV steam for iMovie.Mpeg StreamClip
To find the codecs (video and audio) open the movie in QT Player and then open the MovieInfo window or press Command-I.
If you open a muxed mpeg and then use "Save" the icon will say it is a movie but MovieInfo will reveal that it is in fact a muxed mpeg and subject to the QT mpeg limitations The same thing will occur if you display a muxed mpeg in a browser window and then use "Save as Quicktime Movie" in the controller dropdown menu. To be sure that the format is not altered always use "Save as Source". That way foreign file formats not native to QT will not be saved with a QT wrapper around them. That kind of wrapper may not interfere with playback in QT but can foil attempts to open the file in other applications.
