Jpeg's look interlaced in final cut pro

I know you folks are probably getting sick of me, but here's one more. When I bring jpegs into final cut and put them on my timeline, they look like you can see the interlacing in them. The only thing that seems to fix thi is if I go to the settings and turn the fields off completely, but when I do this, the video looks funny. Again, please tell me what I am doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Uhm...concerning pictures...read this:

Also, JPEGS are highly compressed and not ideal for working with in FCP. TIFFs and PNGs are much better. ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to convert these to media files. Avids way of making them media files was the worse thing that could be done to those stills. Didn't allow for any movement on them whatsoever. You needed a special plugin to allow that on an Avid.
Look at this tutorial for some insight:

  • MP4 video looks blurry in Final Cut pro

So im recording screen captures from Jing Pro into final cut pro and when i view the captures NOT in fcp they look fine but when I view them in FCP and when i export them from FCP, the quality looks terrible, even when I put it at the highest possible quality (1280x1080).
    any fixes?
    please help

Open up Compressor, add your video, in the presets type in ProRes, it should narrow it down. Choose the prores LT preset, make sure in the audio that it is enabled and set to Linear PCM 48K...
Submit, and the resulting video should now look appropriate in FCP.
In FCP, add your video to a clean timeline, FCP should ask if you want to change your sequence setting to match, click YES.

  • I am looking to buy Final Cut Pro X is this stand alone App.?

I have Final Cut 2 Studio Witch it has Motion, Live, Compressor, sound, dvd maker My question is is Final Cut Pro X Comes with it or if is Compatible With my Older versions Programs (of Final cut Pro 6) or is this a Stand alone app. My computer is a Mac Pro Early 2008 3.2 Hrtz 8 Cores.

So that means I can still use my older version (Final Cut Studio 2 ) and use it just in case the Final Cut X gets to complicate is cheaper than before so I can get Motion 5 no problem. thanks

  • How do you fit still images (jpegs) to match clips in Final Cut Pro 7?

The images are too small and the clip can be seen on the borders.  I tried making them bigger b/f dragging but that distorted the image.   I shot the video in 16:9 and shot the pictures with my IPhone not using HD.

Now, are you asking about a procedure in FCP7? Cuz this is the FCPX forum. But, if you are asking how your conform images to fit "LIKE" FCP7, but in FCPX... Here's how. In addition to the transform / crop tools, go to your inspector. In the "Spatial Conform" section there is a drop down for "fit."

  • Can final cut pro x open a final cut pro 7 file?

I editied a file on Final Cut Pro 7. I am looking to purchase Final Cut Pro X and I am wondering if I can open and edit my Final Cut Pro 7 project in Pro X?

You have to use Intelligent Assistance's 7toX to be able to bring it to FCP. If you're talking about an FCP project. If you mean an exported file, most likely, but it depends on exactly what you exported to.

  • Storage for final cut pro

i have a mac book pro and im looking into getting final cut pro so im thinking some additional storage is necessary... i've been looking at the WD 1tb mybook for mac, and im wondering if this will be enough room or will even work for final cut pro

If it was me, and this advice is by no means definitive, I'd buy an eSATA express card and a good eSATA enclosure. It's what keeps us from getting new 15" MacBook Pros (the lack of the express card slot.)
We have two Macbook Pros with eSATA express cards that are used on location for data wrangling or even editing. Each eSATA port can support up to 5 drives using port-multiplication (more actually, but one can't find enclosures with more very easily). Also two disk software-raid arrays work very well with the express card setups.
But that's just, like, my opinion, man.
Update: fellow posted above beat me to it! So, uh... +1?

  • Provide Feedback for the Final Cut Pro User Manual and Onscreen Help Here

The Apple documentation team for Final Cut Pro would like to know what you think about the Final Cut Pro 5 Help documentation (available in the Help menu):
    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under what circumstances do you use it most?
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index, skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    • What do you like about it most?
    • What is missing?
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or documentation that you consider to be good models for the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
    • By what method do you usually learn a new application? For example: provided tutorials and manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training classes?
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do you feel the book provided a good introduction to the application?
    • What do you think is the most difficult feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you think we should explore?
    • What size computer display do you typically use to view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch, 17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280 x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?

    • How often do you use the Final Cut Pro Help? Under
what circumstances do you use it most?
Often, I much prefer that to the Manual, though the Search function is very clunky. Search for Nest for example and you'll get about 50 listings for the table of contents and indexes alone, when all I would really want is the explanation of how to actually create a Nest.
    • How do you find what you're looking for in Final
Cut Pro Help? For example: table of contents, index,
    skimming, PDF links, PDF search?
    Search.
    • What do you like about it most?
Ease of use to get through the manual instead of going through the books themselves.
    • What is missing?
Better organization of the search results. Again, if I search Nests, make the first set of results the answers that actually show me how to use the tool, not the 50 times it appears in the table of contents and indexes.
    • Are there any particular examples of manuals or
documentation that you consider to be good models for
the Final Cut Pro manual and onscreen help?
Honestly, Apple's is the best I've seen for the moment.
    • By what method do you usually learn a new
application? For example: provided tutorials and
manuals, third-party tutorials or books, training
    classes?
Just crack the app open and start. Use websites like the Creative Cow for more input and ideas.
    • Did you use the Final Cut Pro Getting Started book
to familiarize yourself with Final Cut Pro? If so, do
you feel the book provided a good introduction to the
    application?
I thought the Tutorial that came with my first copy of FCP (Version 2.0) was outstanding at introducing me to the interface and how FCP operated. I came from Media 100 and in particular, the Log and Capture operation was completely different than what I was used to.
    • What do you think is the most difficult
feature/concept to grasp in Final Cut Pro?
Media Manager. Not sure why it has to be so convoluted. Media 100 was too easy with this one. Select the Sequence to be up-rez'd, set your new format and capture.
    • What's the most frustrating experience you've had
with the Final Cut Pro documentation?
Search results using the Help menu.
    • Do you prefer electronic or print documentation?
Actually both. If the electronic search gets too frustrating, I'll pull the print manual out to find what I really need.
    • Are there any other delivery methods or media you
    think we should explore?
Not really. Internet based help is always nice, but I don't keep my FCP workstations connected to the web so that would actually create a bigger hassle for us.
    • What size computer display do you typically use to
view the onscreen help? For example: 15-inch,
    17-inch, 20-inch, 23-inch, or 30-inch?
    17" Powerbook display, 17" 20" and 23" Apple Displays and a 17" Sony Display.
    • What resolution is the computer display set to when
you view onscreen help? For example: 1024 x 768, 1280
    x 854, or 1920 x 1200 pixels?
    Highest resolution for that monitor.
    • Do you use multiple computer displays?
    Yes. 23 & 17" on one G5. 20 & 17" on the 2nd G5. 17" Powerbook
Powerbook G4 17, G5 Dual 2.0, G5 Dual 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.5) AJA Kona 2 on both G5's, Fibre Channel and SATA arrays in use.

  • Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) compatability with Canon HV10

I got a great deal and read reviews from Mac sources regarding the Canon HV10. There was some question about the camcorder, but as an introduction into the world of HDV, I thought I could work with it for my specific needs and I did get a pretty decent price.
BUT, iMovie in my OSX Leopard which I just installed recognizes the camera BUT it comes in all bright green and pink even though the playback in the cam looks normal, and Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) just won't see the HV10, even with the HDV/DV cable they require you to purchase.
Do I have to update Final Cut Pro? Is this something that is just not going to work with the FCP 4.5?
Any help would be seriously appreciated.
    Thanks so much.
    Rod

FCP4.5 does not do HDV. You need either iMovie8, FCE 4 or FCStudio 2 for that codec.

  • Downloading Final Cut Pro

I'm looking to download Final Cut Pro to my MacBook Pro. If I download the Final Cut Pro X (Version 10.0.9) will I have problems trying to take things that I edit on my computer and putting them on my school computer which is Final Cut Pro 7? Would I still be able to import projects?

If you wanted to edit FCP7 projects in FCPX by importing them, you would need to use the third party application, 7toX. You export an XML from FCP7 and then use 7toX to bring it into FCPX. If you need to go the reverse route, the developers offer a similar (more expensive) app.
Here is the developer's Web site where you can learn what translates between the two versions of  FCP and what doesn't.
    Good luck.

  • Proper Motion to Final Cut Pro 5 workflow for highest quality in Final Cut.

I have read several post on Motion 2 to Final Cut Pro. I am somewhat unclear as to how to get the very highest quality Motion 2 project into Final Cut Pro 5. I am currently creating a new DV project in Motion 2, as I am working in DV in Final Cut Pro 5. I notice the Motion 2 files look blurry inside Final Cut Pro 5 when I import the Motion project file and add it to my sequence timeline. Clearly I am doing something wrong. Should I ever export from Motion as a Quicktime movie, and then add that Motion Quicktime movie to the sequence timeline? I know that the Animation codec gives the highest quality from Motion, but what about when you are using the Motion project file in Final Cut Pro 5?
As always thanks in advance for taking the time to read and reply to my Post,
    Sebastian

if you're exporting using the DV codec, Quicktime displays the clip at a lesser resolution than the clip actually is, and it will appear blurry on a computer monitor.
open the clip in QT, go to "Window>Show movie properties". select the video track in the top portion of that window, then the "Visual Settings" tab. Check off the "High Quality" checkbox at the lower right of the window.
this only affects DV codec clips, from what i understand.

  • HT5148 Final Cut Pro and video conversion

My question is about converting an WMV to a MOV file. WMV does not load into iMovie. Instead of me purchasing 2 different programs, does Final Cut Pro also convert files? Can I load a WMV file into Final Cut Pro

I sent another reply but to myself by accident, :
OK Tom, if you don't mind I have one more question. I'm new to editing so I'm trying to figure out my options. I'm currentlu using iMovie to edit videso and I've mastered that pretty well. I'm looking to purchase Final Cut Pro to try and do more advanced editing.  Right now I'm editing a lot of sports recruiting videos. I need to put an arrow or some kind of mark over the person that needs to be followed during the game. Do I have that option with Final Cut?

  • Exporting a JPEG in 4:3 from video footage in Final Cut pro is impossible

I'm trying to export a screen grab from final cut pro as a jpg. It's easy to export a jpg image, but as far as I can tell, it is completely impossible to export it as a 4:3 aspect ratio image. My video footage is all 4:3 but all of the jpg images I try to export come out squished into 16:9. This is driving me crazy!
    Here is what I'm doing . . .
Export >Using Quicktime Conversion >Format (Still Image)
From their I've tried every setting you can imagine and FCP still obstinately refused to allow me to export a jpg image in it's true proportions.
    Please prove me wrong.

Awesome! You rock moblie! Thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering why the image proportions were correct in photoshop (ie. 720x480, I thought those were 4:3 dimensions, but I guess it's just resolution?). I adjusted the image in photoshop to be 720x534 pixels and it looks fine now.
I realize this isn't the smartest question in the world, but why isn't 720x480 a 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't really understand aspect ratio all that well (as you can tell).
    Thanks again!

  • Creating a film look in Final Cut Pro 3

I have finished editing my short in and some of the images are too harsh; please advise me on how I can get a more film like look. I shot the short on a Sony PD-150 and edited it on Final Cut Pro 3 using a G4 and running OS X. 2.6
A friend suggested using a filter like Magic Bullet, which doesn't work on OS X. 2.6. Someone else suggested rendering it in 30 frames per second but don't know how to do that in FCP.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

You're not going to be able to make magic happen with DV footage on final cut 3. Film has a generally softer and murkier look than video, so try bringing down the harsher higlights and desaturing colors somewhat. You're just going to have to play arround with the the filters and color corrector, and eyeball it on a broadcast monitor.
As far as frame rate is concerned, there's nothing you can do. DV is 29.97fps, film is 24fps. Simply changing the framerate (especially to 30) won't make it look more film like. 24 fps pulldown needs to happen in camera to achieve such an effect.
If you're interested in something like Magic Bullet (which you'll have far better luck with), you'll have to find someone who has it.
Honestly, my advice would be to worry about your film looking good more than worry about your film looking like film.

  • I just updated to new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. when it comes back to tcp x it's black.

I just updated to the new final cut pro x 10.1.1 and i am also on mavericks so but on my editing timeline i was trying to color grade using magic bullet looks but i am having problem with it. When i send a sample to MBL and color grade it , it comes back to final cut pro x all black even after render. By the way on the MBL i am using the GPU rendering, I used before like 4months ago and it was fine. And i don't like to use the CPU because it very slow.

What is the frame rate of the project? At what frame rate was the media recorded? What frame size?
    What are the audio settings?
What are the specs of the machine, in particular how much RAM, how is the hard drive connected, etc.?
If possible, post screenshots of the inspector for the project.
It could be related to the audio frequency?
