JPEG Sizes

I am having issues with saving Photoshop projects that contain RAW files + additional layers to JPEG's that are 17mb or higher.  My settings are the same across the board for saves:  save, JPEG, Standard (Baseline) 12 - Maximum.
I have one file that I edited in Lightroom and manipulated further in Photoshop.  I added a layer along with a curve.  Saved it as a JPEG and had a file size of 20mb, approx.  I needed to make changes to the original RAW file.  I went back to Lightroom, made my changes, re-imported the new file into Photoshop and performed the same functions as the last file and even added a Vibrance layer.  I saved the file and was giving a file size of 10mb.  I need to have files saved as JPEG with a minimum of 17mb.  What am I doing wrong?
I checked with Adobe Help Desk and was told that Photoshop decides on the file size as it sees fit.  I need to find a simple solution to skirt this issue and save files in JPEG form in higher mb.
Thank you for any help.

Robert, You might want to look a bit closer at the Alamy.com website.
They are asking for uncompressed file sizes of more than 17 MB.
In fact if you hover your cursor over this requirement on their website, a tip pops up that says:
"When you open a JPEG in picture editing software (i.e. Photoshop). it is uncompressed."
So they aren't asking for a file size >17MB in the Mac Finder or Windows Explorer, but rather its uncompressed size in Photoshop.
For example, the image below is only 6 MB in the Mac Finder, but uncompressed in Photoshop is it over 190MB.
At the bottom of your image frame in PS there is a field that can display various parameters of your image by clicking on the arrow to the right.
Click this arrow and select File Size.
I'm sure your file size is adequate for them.
However, I would pay attention to the list of "We reject images for . . .   requirements.

    JPEG size imports WAY TOO BIG.  How do I reduce JPEG size?  Thanks so much@!!

    Set your camera to take lower quality pictures is the obvious answer here. You can reduce the size of image already in iPhoto when exporting them.

  • Exported Jpeg size

    Just started using aperture 1.5 and find that its not bad. I am trying to retouch Raw D200 images to black and white by making a new version and either using the chanel mixer to monochrome or by desaturating. I am finding it really nice to use and comparing the images side by side is fantastic for keeping consistency. Only minor thing i have noticed is the jpeg size is only2.8ish meg when exported from aperture, as apposed to a file that was exported using Nikon picture project or Capture NX and retouched to Black and White in Photoshop which ends up at around 3.8-4.5meg as a jpeg.
    Does anyone know why, and is it something to be concerned about?
    Thanks for your help.

    The JPEG size is a function of JPEG quality - it could be that NX is set to output lossles JPG, or at least a higher quality level.
    For any export preset, you can edit it and adjust the JPG quality - if you highlight an export preset while in the preset editing mode, and hit the "+" button at the bottom left, if will duplicate that preset so you can make a slightly different one.
    You probably should look over the presets you use anyway just to make sure all settings are as you would wish.

  • IPhoto '11: Export (JPEG) size not working

    I keep all my photos taken with iPhone 4 in iPhoto '11 ver 9.42 (710.42).
    It is a very excellent app to mange my photos.
    Recently I need some photos from iPhoto for the use in my web project.
    So I export them in JPEG, choosing "high" quality and "large" size.
    Yet, some of the exported JPEG are still in the original size of 2592 x 1936.
    I have tried other size options, but those (same) JPEG are always in the original size.
    What happened?
    I appreciate if gurus here could help me.
    Thank you very much.

    If the pref file was damaged your test library would have exhibited problems also. Try the following:
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button,
    navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
    Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
    Also there's a new update for iPhoto, 9.4.3.  Wouldn't hurt to update to that version.

  • PDF Changing JPEG size

    Is there a way to stop my jpegs from changing size? I have them at 8.5 by 11 (300 dpi) before converting and now they are 35.42" by 45.83 (100 dpi) and these are not the proper size to send to commercial printer? Is there a way to keep this from happening?

    Thanks very much. Yes, command-i is helpful when you just need to know the size of the file.
    Here's what I use it for: I need to make all images under 250KB to post to a particular website. I do this all the time, but all the images start off in different quality, resolution and size because they're all from different sources. I don't want to change proportions, image size, or resolution -- just the file size (quality slider).
    So I used to click through them all, one by one, in Preview, and "save-as." I slide the quality slider down for each successive image until the file size is just under 250KB, then I save it.
    Without this feature, I have to do a trial-and-error for each image, then "command-i" each one. Some end up over 250KB, some too far under. So I try again on perhaps 90% of them, trying to remember which were too big and which were too small, and over and over again, getting just a few right with each pass, until all images are about the correct size.
    Something that used to take 5 minutes (for, say, 50 images) now takes -- no joke -- two hours.
    It doesn't seem possible that Apple really eliminated this feature -- and for what reason?
    Anyway, thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.
    If there is a good workaround in Preview I would love to know it, and I would be VERY GRATEFUL.
    My productivity at work just dropped about 95%.

  • Reducing megapixel / JPEG Size in iPhoto?

    All of my photos are in the 2.5 megapixel range, but most sites (and e-mails) want them significantly smaller.
    How can I use iPHoto to reduce the size of the photo (and not crop it down!).
    Thanks in advance.

    Another way to reduce the file size is to export them to the Desktop and use a file resizer application like Resize! to reduce the quality level (jpeg compression level) and, if necessary, the pixel dimensions of the image.
    Click to view full size
    You can play with pixel size and quality level to get exactly what you need.

  • JPEG size and image losses in Flash CS3

    I am creating a website for a wedding and using the photos of the couple on the website.  I created designs in Photoshop CS3 with the following settings:
    Document Size: 6.25" x 8.25" or 1875p x 2475p @ 300pixels/inch
    To use the image in flash, I used "Save As" in photoshop to convert image into JPEG with "Quality 10 Maximum" setting.
    I created a Flash CS3 document with the following settings:
    Document Size: 6.25" x 8.25" or 494 x 550 pixels
    I imported the JPEG image from photoshop into flash and came in an image much larger than 6.25"x8.25".  I resized the image in flash with constrained dimensions to 494x550 pixels and it the text shadows and glow lost its clarity.
    TRIAL 1
    Obviously something was wrong.  So, I went back to Photoshop and used the save for web/devices option and saved it as a high quality JPEG.  Same result.
    TRIAL 2
    This time, I tried a different trick in Photoshop.  I went to Image->Image Size and changed the image resolution to 150pixels/inch and used "Save As" again.  I imported it again to Flash and now the image was too small.
    How do I match the image "save as" from photoshop to the flash document size so that I dont lose resolution?  I used Zoomify in photoshop successfully without losses.  Why is it not possible to just import an image to look the same way a JPEG file appears?

    Hi,
    screen resolution is 72. So if you save your jpg at 72 with the desired size in pixels, the image will appear just fine inside flash, but, two things to keep in mind:
    -What counts is size in pixels. Resolution only matters when you go printing (where the rate between inches and pixels is needed). For web you have to watch the size in pixels only. Even if resolution is different from 72, if you scale the image to the original size in pixels it will be displayed well in the flash movie (if the movie itself isn't scaled neither)
    And, it isn't the exactly same to import to scenary that to import to library. When you import to scenary (ctrl+r) sometimes flash resize the object, so maybe you get some distorsion in jpg files. Going to transform panel or in property inspector panel you can set the image size to 100 percent again. When you import to library you have to drag the image into the stage, and then the image will appear at 100%.
    i hope this helps,
    Jorge

  • Export JPEG size

    Hi, can someone explain the following.
    I've just exported some photos for printing in Lightroom and set the size to 100% and the JPEG quality to 100%. On one photo the export size is 10.1Mb when I then open file and resave it, still keeping the image size the same & re-saving at 100% JPEG quality the filesize drops to about 4Mb.
    I've used Pixelmator to resave the file. Any ideas why this would be? Why does LR save such a large file - does it use a different algorithm?
    Cheers for the replies,
    Matt

    There are lots of ways to compress jpegs. The 100% setting in your other app likely has no real relation to 100% in Lightroom. The app might be subsampling the chroma channels as lots of jpeg libraries do. Also, you are resaving a jpeg, which because of the way jpeg compression works, always leads to generational losses in quality. This usually goes hand in hand with loss in filesize. Lastly, there rarely is any advance in perceived quality going from 90% to 100% in Lightroom.

  • Jpeg size for iphoto books?

    Hi, have found that some of my jpegs are to small in size to print properly for books. Does anyone know what size is best for making books?

    The best size is as large as you can get. iPhoto will
    Default DPI Settings in iPhoto 7's Preference File
    BookTargetDPI - 300
    BookTargetMediumDPI-300
    BookTargetSmallDPI - 300
    BookWarningImageDPI - 180
    PrintImageDPI - 720
    PrintWarningImageDPI - 140
    So if the photo you put in a frame will be printer at less than 180 dpi you'll get the warning label. A photo might give you that warning at a full page frame but will be OK in a 2 photo/page frame. I've have photos print with that warning and they looked OK. What are the pixel dimensions of your smallest photo. The smallest I've used is 1600 x 1200 and created a whole book with that size. I did not have any full page photos however.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • JPEG Size

    Hi,
    How can I determine the size of a JPEG image which is on the filesystem. The web-application I'm writing enables the user to upload a JPEG image from his own computer. But it is not allowed to upload images with a higher resolution than 320 x 240. How can I do this?
    I've found the class Image but I cannot find how to create a new Image from the file that is being uploaded.
    Thanx,
    Leon

    You can read the jpeg file to an image with java.awt.Toolkit but I don't think that would be wise. I'd read the width and height from the header of the jpeg file and discarding all other information.
    Pick up the jpeg file spec from http://www.wotsit.org/ and start coding!

  • Editing jpeg size

    I have a jpeg that is 1250 x 1000 pix. I'd like to edit it down to 800 x 600.  How can I do this in iPhoto (or elsewhere in ML)?   I do not want to crop the jpeg at all, just the size.

    Well you're going to have to crop that image as 1250 x 1000 is not the same aspect ratio as 800 x 600 - 6 -ish:5 not the same shape as 4:3.
    Anyway: to scale an image
    Select the image in the iPhoto Window an go File -> Export. In the export dialogue check under the Size option. Under 'Custom' you can set the maximum dimension for the length or breadth.

  • How to decrease jpeg size without losing quality?

    i am creating different size of images reading with bufferedimage then redrawing image with different sizes...
    I have created a 500*375 -192 kb picture from original with my code then uploaded it to flickr....it produced 500*375 picture with 133 kb...and quality seems the same...please look my code below...maybe the colour table of my drawing or some property must change....where is the point?
    thank you
    response.reset();
              ServletOutputStream cikti=response.getOutputStream();
              BufferedImage servletResim=new BufferedImage(500,375,BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
              Graphics2D graf=(Graphics2D) servletResim.getGraphics();
              graf.drawImage(image, 0, 0, 500, 375, null);
              JPEGImageEncoder enkoder=JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(cikti);
              JPEGEncodeParam param = enkoder.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(servletResim);
              int quality =100;
              quality = Math.max(0, Math.min(quality, 100));
              param.setQuality((float)quality / 100.0f, false);
              enkoder.setJPEGEncodeParam(param);
              enkoder.encode(servletResim);
              cikti.close();

    The quality may "seem" the same, but it probably isn't. With most photos you can reduce the JPEG to 85% quality without noticing much.

  • Maximum jpeg size

    Hi
    I'm new to premiere pro and I would like to know if it is possible to import very large photos with Adobe premiere pro CS4. I want to create a very large mosaic (about 1 gigapixel) and then pan around the image to create a small video sequence. How can I go about importing a jpeg photo that is several hundred megabytes in size?
    Many thanks,
    Lee

    I agree completely about using AE for this. The motion-tracking controls will be better also.
    I would also NOT use JPEG if one wants ultimate quality. Stay with TIFF, or PSD for the source material and do not use JPEG, even at max settings.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    PS some years ago, Curt Wrigley did a tutorial on creating a "photo wall," in PrPro 1.5, IIRC. You might want to search his SITE for that tutorial.

  • HT1152 When exporting photos to file they are being downsized even though i export as origonal jpeg size

    When exporting photo files to new folder my computer downsizes them even though I export as origonal jpeg size

    Could you please give an example with specifics.
    Right click the original and select Get Info. Size is the second line under General.
    Do the same for the file after it is moved to the folder.

    Hi gang,
    Is there a way to change the size of the photos that are uploaded to Photostream by iPhoto?  My original JPEGs are a few MB in size, but on photostream they are much smaller, about 700KB.

    Phil,
    where are you viewing your Photo Stream photos? The photo Stream holds full resolution photos, but will download smaller, optimized photos on IOS devices to save space, see:
