Jpeg thumbnails

I recently uploaded pictures from my Sony dsc W7 digital camera to a friend's PC. I was able to see thumbnails of all the JPEG files on the camera, and only upload the desired photos. Returning to my Mac, I am unable to see the thumbnails. Any ideas on how to view them?
I am running an old iPhoto, would the current version build the thumbnails?
Thanks in advance to anyone contributing any comments.
G5 sp 1.8 Ghz (2003)

have you imported them into iPhoto?
---I don't want to import them all, I want to see thumnails of all pics on the camera while in the finder, after clicking on the camera icon.
can you see them on the camera?
---Yes, bright and clear from the camera LCD
What version are you currently using .
---iPhoto 4
Updating is mostly a good thing.
---I will, but am wondering why the Mac OS does not show thumbnails on camera and CD's etc, seems odd for a modern OS, am thinking I am missing a switch or something.

  • How can I create a jpeg thumbnail image?

I'd like to create a clear jpeg thumbnail image of the first page of a document created in InDesign.  It will be used in Constant Contact as a link to the online version of the document.  (Constant Contact doesn't take JPEG's)
I especially need help making it crisp and clear.
    Thank you!

And there will be occasions when it's not better, and there are alternative ways to get better results.
You may not have tested every situation and font, but I've done enough to know that sometimes it doesn't work as expected. And it wasn't a "challenge", it was an observation.
Here's 3 ways to make a JPEG - and the one that is the best is the one that was exported to PDF and then opened in Photoshop and then Saved as a JPEG.
    .........Direct Export .........................Export PDF................................Export PDF
.....to JPEG.from ID.....................Open in Photoshop.............Save to JPEG from Acrobat.
(EDIT - The forum is adding extra compression to the images - I assure you the middle image is the best)

  • Jpeg thumbnails too dark in CS5 bridge

All of a sudden my jpeg thumbnails appear very dark and muddy in CS5 bridge. Such images are of normal brightness when opened in Photoshop proper.
Equally puzzling is when a jpeg image is then "saved as" back to the same folder as a TIFF (for example) the jpeg looks dark but the TIFF version of the same file looks correct. RAW files still look correct.
This seems to be a recent problem as jpeg images I processed a few ago weeks ago still dislay normally in bridge.
I've tried purging the folder cache without effect. Thumbnail quality is set to "always high". I feel I may have accidentally altered a setting but cannot think wghat it might be. Please help.

Since my posting I have realised this problem is confined to images from the Nikon D800 camera ONLY. Jpegs from my other Nikon cameras display normally.
That does indeed not indicate to a cache problem alone. But you stated in your earlier post purging cache did solve the problem temporarily hence my idea about this solution.
I still think you should try to move the files to another new folder but you have provided us with very less detail about what computer, systemOS etc you are using and if you have the correct ACR version for support of your Nikon D800 which I believe is ACR 6.7 (in Photoshop use menu Photoshop / about Plug ins / Camera Raw to check which version you have.
Just to say I shoot RAW and batch convert to sRGB jpeg from ACR. It doesn't matter what size option I save to from ACR.
I don't follow this workflow, shooting Raw provides you with all details and data from your sensor but you need to go through them for fine tuning the settings. Shooting jpeg means you loose a lot of those details and let the camera software decide to fine tune for you (in a nutshell, it is a bit more complicated…)
Shooting Raw and without change settings and fine tune just convert these files to sRGB jpeg is in my opinion pointless. You better use the option to shoot Raw + jpeg and use the jpegs out of camera for this purpose.

  • Best way to group TIFF + JPEG + thumbnail versions of the same file

Cheers - quick question. At work, our photography group delivers photographs in groups of FOUR files per image: high-resolution TIFF; high-res JPEG; low-res JPEG; thumbnail. Is there a native way or feature in Aperture that allows me to group all four versions of these files into a single "bucket" within a project?
For example, if a have a project holding all the photographs I took during a test flight today, rather than seeing the same image four times consecutively (TIFF, hi-res JPG, low-res JPG, thumbnail), can I simply group those four into one? . . . or, alternately, is there a quick feature within Aperture that makes it very very easy to export a thumbnail or high or low-res JPEG if I choose to only store the high-resolution TIFF?
I apologize if asking a basic question. I've only been using Aperture for a month - absolutely love it, and have completed most of Apple's video tutorials and the entire "Exploring Aperture" guide, but haven't found anything there addressing this topic.
Appreciate any insight - or your own personal approaches - that anyone can offer!
    thanks!!
    Mark

The other possibility would be to use albums. You could create an album for each grouping and then drag the images into the album.
While this sounds storage intensive (multiple albums all duplicating images in projects) it really isn't given the Aperture way. That is the images in the albums are only links back to the project images. noting is duplicated. The album way might give you a bit more flexibility over stacks. Stacks are good for some things but they can be somewhat rigid in that all the images in the stack, in general, have to move together.
As you will discover, there are many ways to accomplish the same thing in Aperture. This makes it both extremely powerful and also somewhat frustrating at least at first.

  • Jpeg thumbnails wont display in organiser

Has can one got a solution as to why I can't view jpeg thumbnails in elements 10 organiser???

    Try these options:
    1) In the Organizer; under File->Catalog, select your catalog and click Optimize. OR
    2) In the Organizer; under File->Catalog, select your catalog and click Repair. OR
    3) Try rebuilding the thumbnails as per these steps:
3.1. In Help > System Info, find the folder containing your catalog.
    3.2. Exit PSE.
3.3. In that folder, delete the file “thumb.5.cache”.
    3.4. Restart PSE.
    3.5. Edit > Select All.
    3.6. Edit > Update Thumbnail.

My images will not show in the Finder Pictures folders, but just display as jpeg thumbnails.  I have to open each one to see what photo it is.  This has just recently started to happen.

I made sure the 'Show Icon Preview' box was checked.  This is about all I can do, really, Frank, as i don't know enough about the workings of these machines to start fiddling about.
Strangely the images show as previews in some folders, yet not in others, even though they come from the same sources (my camera and my phone).

  • DNG converter jpeg thumbnails

The latest version of DNG converter has an option for jpeg thumbnails of None, Medium or Large.  When I try to use PSE 8 to view the converted files there's no jpeg thumbnails, anyone any ideas what's wrong?

I am not sure about DNG but in case of ACR, only few features are available in Photoshop Elements...

  • RAW+Jpeg Thumbnail Viewing Problems

    A bit confusing...
    I shoot RAW+Jpeg. My Jpeg's are B&W by in-camera choice, I have a Canon 5D w/ Picture Styles.
I import into Aperture from the CF card. It shows only the RAW pix, as it should.
When I browse the Project folder for these new pictures, select them, and choose New Version From Master JPEG, the Jpeg's come in stacked with their RAW counterparts, and they appear in thumbnail not as B&W but same as RAW color converted. If I unstack, there is no change of the Jpeg to B&W. If I view the Jpeg in the Viewer, finally I see it as B&W. This doesn't work for me. I want the B&W thumbnail.
On the other hand. If I have set these pix in an album, and then select New Version From Master JPEG while in that album, the Jpegs come in individually, showing as B&W....BUT.... since they are in the Album and not the Project, they are not represented in the Project folder, and any Keywording that I may have done in the Album is unsearchable. So I essentially get the view that I want of the thumbnail but Aperture doesn't really know it's there.
To make matters worse, an earlier Project that I drew the Jpegs into does seem to show the Jpeg thumbnail stacked with the RAW, and in B&W as desired. I can't remember if the B&W thumbnails came in that way at first of Aperture finally got around to properly representing them as such at a later launching.
I have been encountering some frustrating inconsistency with this application, and am getting very very tired of not just being able to use it without having to track down why it's not operating properly every time I import.
I still don't know why the Library 5-star smart folder only shows the same small portion of select pics, when I have continued to add many more 5 star ratings in subsequent Project folders.
My Referenced image folders, and my vaults, have been very secure.

    Hey Karen,
Thanks for coming in on this, you were very helpful w/ directing me to bringing up the Jpegs from behind the RAWs with New Version from Master JPEG in one of my other queries.
I want to reference your comments as paragraphs 1), 2), 3), 4), if I might, so as to shorten the text here:
    1) My images are in a Project folder, from there I created an Album.
While in the Album I selected all the images, and clicked on New Version from Master JPEG. The JPEGs came in seperately, i.e. not stacked with the RAWs, and the thumbnail appearance was B&W, which is what I was hoping for.
I Keyworded all the images in the Album, and then for kicks and confirmation, I tested the keywords in a search, my search was totally baffling.
When I searched for my "B&W" keyword, only the color Raws came forward, why? I don't know, there was no such keyword used on these images.
Also, I discovered that none of the JPEG's were showing up in the Project folder.
Next, I decided to select the RAW pictures in the Project folder. I then applied New Version from Master JPEG, and the Jpegs came up stacked with the RAWs.These JPEGs showed now in both the Project folder and the Album. But the problem for me was that both the RAW and JPEG were in color, identical to each other.
When I unstacked these stacks and Keyworded either in the Project or Album folders, indeed, they were searchable. But mind you, no thumbnail was to be seen that was B&W in appearance, and this was unacceptable, I count on being able to see the B&W thumbnail.
And, more confusingly, other earlier Albums have not all had the same problems with bringing in B&W thumbnails.
    2) The smart album that I'm refering to here is the Library root select folder that has the 5 stars. It should have no problem collecting my 5 star images, wherever they are. Or so I thought. But quite a few 5 star images were not making it into this smart folder.
But now, since your writing, I went into a couple of Projects and had to manipulate the images to appear, which they finally did in both the smart folder in a Project, as well as the root "Select" folder in the Library. So now they show up in both places as they should. The solution was to make sure that the 5-star image was the Pick of a stack for it to show up in a "select" smart folder. I'm a little disappointed that stack internals seem to escape the search. I think this problem needs to be remedied. Until then, I guess I have to just be more diligent.
    3) Thank you, I'll hit this link a little later, I have paid some attention to this site, it's been really helpful.
    4) I did go to this site, unfortunately nothing here has helped my problem with the Jpegs.

  • CS4 bridge displays jpegs thumbnails only

CS4 bridge displays jpegs thumbnails only
Can someone who may have seen this problem or experienced a silimilar issue explain what is happening to CS4 bridge. I just installed PC version of CS4 photophop. It appears that in bridge, only jpegs thumnails will display. Tiffs and PSD files only show up as icons. Also the file association menu seems to have disappeared. Now if I log in as administrator , everything works properly. All thumbnails display correctly, assoication menu appears and bridge will update fine. Does anyone have an idea of what is happening here??
    Joel F

Did this happen recently, or has it always worked this way?  If this is a new occurance some file may be corrupted and your best bet would be to reset Bridge.  You can do that by holding down Crtl and starting Bridge.  A reset window will appear, choose all 3 options.
One other point.  If you are using Vista and an external drive there can be persissoning problems, but this does not seem like it should be one.

  • No more JPEG thumbnails in Finder (also no cover flow!)

I don't see any thumbnails anymore in Finder..
I have several JPG's exported by Photoshop, and they look fine in Preview, also in column layout, when you click the file, it shows a thumb, but in icon view and cover flow, I only get to see the JPG icon, instead of a thumb..
    Two screenshots of the problem:
    http://opendir.stijnspijker.nl/Picture%201.png
    http://opendir.stijnspijker.nl/Picture%202.png

    If what bob said doesnt work or if you already did that which I assume you did - then try this;
go into library>preferences and deleting the finder.plist and finder.sidebar files.
I did this and restarted the machine and my icons for jpegs are back!

  • Jpeg thumbnails too small when saved from Photoshop

Since moving to Snow Leopard, I notice that the Finder shows jpegs saved from Photoshop quite a bit smaller than jpegs saved using other apps, like Preview or just scanned images. This makes viewing the thumbnails in the Finder harder. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
I would post a screen grab to show this, but I can't see how to do that here. If anyone knows, please let me know.
    Thanks

That's because Photoshop creates its own rather smallish icons (by the new standards) for the files. If you remove custom thumbnails and let Finder draw them they'll be scalable all the way up to 512x512. There is a preference from within Photoshop to tell it to NOT create icons. Go to PS prefs, select Saving Files, and turn off Image Previews. The advantage is that the icons can be drawn larger; the disadvantage is that they will appear in Finder more slowly, since instead of simply displaying what is there Finder has to draw the icons. Furthermore, Finder doesn't always draw the icons with the clarity one would expect: sometimes they never do appear as sharp as they ought to be (there are several very lengthy threads discussing this problem, with no real solution), sometimes they slowly appear in all their large glory.
Oh, and to post a picture, as in my signature, you have to have the image available somewhere online, then add an image tag.

  • Bridge jpeg thumbnails and previews get RAW settings

On jpeg files without any RAW setting applied, Bridge still applies RAW settings to the thumbnails and the preview are thus display incorrectly. Opening the file shows the jpeg as it should be, without RAW settings applied.
I have RAW preferences set to apply auto settings to RAW files without any current settings.
I have my RAW settings to open jpegs in RAW *only* when they already have settings. If I set this to disable jpeg support, then the RAW settings are not automatically applied to jpegs without existing settings. aka, Bridge redoes the thumbnails without the auto setting.
While it is correct to apply this to RAW files without settings, jpeg files are already "developed/printed" and should not get additional auto develop settings automatically applied.
    My Bridge is 4.0.4.2
    Raw is 6.3

Thanks, I did, since it is affected by a RAW preference I figured a double post was acceptable.

  • Jpeg thumbnails not appearing.

I photographed a wedding with two cameras. I have edited them all so put them all in the same folder but the photos from one camera's thumbnails are not showing. They are just the jpeg icon. Can anyone help?

    Maybe:
    http://www.beccamarcus.com/2011/10/picture-thumbnails-not-showing-up-in-finder/
Did you edit the photos on one computer with one app?
If you Get Info for both showing and non-showing ones does anything stand out as being different?

  • JPEG thumbnails won't rotate

I'm using Preview 3.0.8 and when I download jpegs onto my computer the thumbnails are automatically created. I open the pics that need to be rotated and rotate them but the thumbnails will not automatically rotate and I can not figure out how to manually rotate the thumbnails either.
