Jpegs appear stretched in Timeline

I'm bringing jpegs into FCP for a slideshow and they appear stretched out as though in HD. The sequence setting is set for 720 x 480. How would I make them appear as they normally should?
Thanks.

1440 x 1080
Did you use one of the Photoshop film and video presets and paste your photos into that? If so, those pixel dimensions would apply to an Anamorphic HD video setting such as that used for HDV.
In video, dpi doesn't mean a thing. Let's not get hung up on that.
What happens when you take one of the original jpegs and drop that into your Timeline?

  • Input video appears stretched when imported to Premiere Pro CS6

I'm on a beginner level on Premiere Pro so please be gentle if this question is very basic. I'm trying to make a video that preserves the input video resolution exactly. My input video was an MP4 movie with resolution 1440 x 1080. It's an iPad screen recording using X-Mirage software. When I opened it normally in quicktime, it didn't seem stretched. However, when I imported the clip into Premiere, the clip appeared stretched. I checked the Properties of the clip and it turned out to have Pixel Aspect Ratio of 1.3333, which meant the pixels were stretched. My output sequence was also stretched out because of this, even though the output indicated that the resolution is the same: 1440 x 1080. I tried to comply with "Clip Mismatch Warning" and the result was still a stretched version. Please help!

    Hi,
In premiere pro, you will see sequence on the top. Click on sequence and from the drop down select sequence settings. Under sequence settings there would be a tab of pixel aspect ratio. Try and change it to d1/dv ntsc widescreen 16:9 or hd anamorphic.
Check if it makes any difference.
    Thank You

  • Insert Editing, Why Won't Clips Appear In The Timeline?

Every time I attempt an insert edit, either via the "downward arrow" symbol or via "W" on the keyboard the clip appears in a secondary time/storyline below the Timeline, with a blank space in the main Timeline of exactly the same duration as the clip.
Similarly if I drag a clip from one part of the Timeline to another the clip appears below the Timeline with a corresponding blank space.
I do not want a secondary, or indeed tertiary storyline, I want all my clips to appear on the Timeline. I am not bothered about the length of the project or if I alter the length during the editing process.
    Suggestions will be appreciated,
    Ron

Couldn't manage that Tom, my hands aren't big enough BUT I have since discovered that what I thought was the Timeline is in fact a secondary storyline, with the Timeline, dark grey, below it. If I insert edit the clip appears correctly on on the Timeline with the two adjacent clips above on the Secondary line.
I have no idea how this happened. I started off my edit by by using the "append" arrow but the clips appeared and lined up together on this Secondary storyline.
A very laborious task in dragging each clip off the Second line and onto the Timeline. Nearly an hours worth of short clips!
I am about to start another project so will want to be certain to get all onto the Timeline. Perhaps my settings were wrong or I've inadvertently pressed the wrong key.  Ron

  • CMYK Jpegs appear lighter and desaturated

    Hey everyone,
I'm having an annoying issue with my CMYK images. I work for a marketing co. that's primarily print, and after uploading my images to our online storage interface (we use Egnyte), the jpegs appear "milky" or lighter and desaturated than what they do on my screen and in Photoshop. I've tested tiff, jpeg and pdf and they all look fine on my screen, but the jpeg and tiff appear "milky" only on my collegue's screen, but the pdf is fine. She is on a Mac, I'm on PC, and no matter how I open the images, whether I redownload them from the web, or open them straight from my hd, they appear just fine.
Thanks for any and all help
    Andy

How are you viewing those JPEGS?
Most web browsers do not know how to display CMYK JPEGs, much less how to use the profiles from those images.
Acrobat does know how to display CMYK, and use color profiles.

  • 16:9 Letterbox dvd appearing stretched wide

I know this is a tough thing to pinpoint with different playback set-ups, but I wanted to see if there is anything I'm overlooking.
I have a dvd sp project, SD, set up in 16:9 letterbox format. All of the menus and tracks appear fine on: build disc on all macs, and a dvd player + flatscreen in one location. But on a new dvd player setup, it looks like it's getting double letterboxed...in other words the 16:9 menu and tracks are appearing stretched wide, and we get bars top and bottom. In this same setup, we play two other 16:9 dvds (not authored by me), and they appear correct, so it doesn't seem to be a global setting in the playback set-up.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you

Did you use Pan & Scan at all in the settings? It should just be Letterbox, not Pan & Scan/Letterbox or Pan & Scan. I would check that first, though I do not think it would cause what you are describing but those settings can cause strange results. (It sounds like you did not letterbox the movie in Final Cut, which is the right way to do it, but just checking.)
What you are describing does sound weird. Have you tried on any other players (sounds like you tested on two standalone players so far.) I would also double check the settings on the new set-up just in case and make sure that they are set for 16:9.

  • Why won't both audio tracks appear on the timeline????

    Hello,
here is a dumb question. When I drag my clips to the timeline only one audio track appears on the timeline and I know there are two track of audio. I must have accidently changed some settings. anyone know what's up?
    Thanks for your help

Are both audio tabs connected to the timeline? Just to the left of the timeline are the V1 and A1 and A2 audio tabs from the source clips. Is one disconnected?

  • Premiere Elements 12 - The project stopped accepting new mp4 and jpeg clips onto the timeline.  There are several there but when adding new ones they appear to place properly then immediately disappear.  Any fix?

Windows 8.1 elements 12 - I have a project underway that was operating fine as i built the video file, then stopped accepting new files, both mp4 and jpeg.  It appears to accept them when dragged onto the timeline but then they immediately disappear. Any solutions?

That is an unusual situation that you are presenting.
Have you updated from 12 to 12.1 via the project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 presumed 64 bit?
    The usual drill
    a. What is your project preset? What are the properties of your sources media? What is the brand/model/settings of the camera recording your mp4 and jpeg.
What are the pixel dimensions of these jpeg images and how many of them are there in the project (especially when the problems set in).
    b. What is the size/duration of your Timeline content when the program no longer accepts new files?
    c. Describe status of your computer resources. Also, where are the Scratch Disks directed and how much free hard drive space is at that location(s)?

  • Video appears stretched outside of program and pixilated images

I am using Final Cut Express for the first time and am trying to make a slideshow. Everything displays nicely in the program, however when I export it to quicktime and play it on the computer in quicktime, everything is stretched including the generated text, still images, and the few video clips I used. When I burn it to a disk and play it on the tv, it is also stretched horizontly. I was able to solve this problem by opening up the exported version in iMovie, and saving it again and then burning it to DVD, but I know there must be some setting that I am missing in Final Cut. Please help.
Also, the pictures display quite pixilated on the tv screen. I am using full sized jpeg files. Any setting changes I need to make on those to make them more clear?
    Thank you.

What I am most concerned about is the still image quality. The still images are taken with a Canon 20D. I initially exported them from Lightroom as full sized jpegs. But I have now tried exporting them as 720x480 and 720x540. I export them into a folder, then tell FCE to import them and then drag and drop into the timeline. I have not adjusted any of the program settings.
The video is taken with the Minolta (a stills camera that will shoot video clips), I don't use it much, and am not as concerned about the quality there. Sometime down the road I would like to invest in an actual video camera. At this point I am making slideshows with a few video clips tossed in. After importing the video, it was smaller than full screen so I manually enlarged it, which is why it is now the larger 720x480, but I bet it originaly came in at 640x480 at 30fps.
I did have the slideshow completed, rendered it and played it on the computer in quicktime and burned it to dvd. In FCE the aspect ratio displayed normal, in quicktime and on DVD the images were stretched horizontly. In all programs, the images appear pixelated and seem to be of very poor quality even though the original images are all very sharp.
Prior to this I used iMovie and have not had any problems. FCE has for some reason proved to be more complicated than I was expecting.

  • Text does not appear stretched in the output

    Hi,
I have a requirement to show data as stretched text in the rtf output. I tried it by electing the data field in the rtf template and changed the spacing to 3 point in font tab. But when I preview it, the text appears normal.
Is there something which I am missing? Is stretch text supported in BI templates or not?
    Thanks.

The HTML validator finds one problem that might be related:

''"Warning: Byte-Order Mark found in UTF-8 File. The Unicode Byte-Order Mark (BOM) in UTF-8 encoded files is known to cause problems for some text editors and older browsers. You may want to consider avoiding its use until it is better supported."''
I'm not sure if this is related or not, but it might be useful information for your programmers. I tested your link on my Linux computer, but I did not see any problem with the page using Firefox 5 or Firefox 6. (Perhaps the problem only affects Firefox on Windows computers.)

  • Images in my FrameMaker 10-sourced Robohelp Web Help project are turning out as blank JPEGS appearing as blank spaces in the final output. How can I fix this?

I'm attempting to create online help sourced from a FrameMaker 10 book using Robohelp 9 and Web Help (primary layout).
The text is interspersed with numeorus small icons which, in the FrameMaker documents, are .bmp images inserted into anchored frames in the lines of text.
Most of these icons were imported by reference into the FrameMaker book's chapters. Some were copied from another FrameMaker book and pasted into the present book.
Many of these images are turning out blank in the finished Help project.
Robohelp seems to convert these images into JPEGS.
In the source FrameMaker book, the images which appear OK in the Help project have Object Properties including: Facets: FrameVector   JPEG ... Referenced File: No File
The images which appear blank have different object properties there: Facets: DIB ... Referenced File: (address of the image's source file)
How can I fix this and make all of the images appear in the Online Help?

Sorry, Jeff. I missed the key word in your instructions. Well, I did the import and still no luck. I'm getting the exact same results with the same images. (In some cases, I'm even getting hidden conditional text from the FM document body showing up in the image's frame instead of the image! See below.) This is bizarre behavior, but it's not new with the import. It is happening both in the linked and imported WebHelp with the same exact images. (Just another piece to complicate the puzzle.) So we have some jpeg images that are blank, and a few that are glitchy. From what I can tell, the commonality, besides the fact that all these new images are in jpeg format instead of gif format, is that all the blank and glitchy images are in a text inset. I'm beginning to think maybe RH just doesn't support text insets at all.
Arnis, I'll have to ask my colleague how she created the images next week when she's back from vacation. I have no clue if there are any differences between the jpegs and why some are showing up correctly. What do you mean by "compression type or level?" Are you asking about the resolution (high, medium, low) she chose when saving the images, or which program she used to do the screen capture and editing? (We have Adobe Photoshop CS5 and FM 11).
My next step is to copy-paste all the content from the text insets into my FM document (in the book I am linking) and re-render to see if that solves the problem. It will make single-sourcing impossible because I'll have to copy-paste the new content and images my colleague creates into my document each time we do an update, but oh well.
Here is an example of a glitchy image in RH:
And here is what it looks like in FM:
    So bizarre!

  • Jpegs appear transparent when imported

Working in Windows 7 on CS5 Extended.
When opening jpegs either through Bridge or directly through Photoshop, the image appears like a transparent checkered background.
In the layers window the thumbnail shows the proper image. This is when things get weird. When clicking on the top of the frame of the image,
the image will appear, but as soon as the click is released, the image goes back to being transparent.
Sometimes this happens, sometimes it does not.
Do I have some sort of setting incorrect?
Computer has 500gb harddrive space and 3gb Ram
    Thank you

This is a classic symptom of a display driver bug.
What video card do you have in your system?
To update your driver, visit the web site of the maker of the card, e.g., nVidia.com, ATI.com, Intel.com, or whatever's appropriate, and download / install the latest driver for your card.
If all else fails, and a driver update does not fix the problem, go into your Edit - Preferences - Performance menu and disable OpenGL Drawing by unchecking the box, then close and restart Photoshop.

  • Ghost clips appearing on FCP timeline-why?

every now and again in this edit, I'll drop a clip (say clip #1) on to the timeline, do a render at some point in the future, and then later move/delete clip #1.
Afterwards, when I play timeline on the canvas, the clip I deleted will show up again, overriding clips #3,4,5 that are ACTUALLY there. There are 4 active track on this edit (V1-4), and one that is disabled (V5). So there appears to be no clips other than #3,4,and 5. [I hope that's clear!]
When the ghost image plays, I can see all 5 tracks of video, and all audio tracks as well.
    Sequence info: 5V, 10A, 29.97 fps, 720x480, comp=DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, CCIR 601, field dom=lower (even), TC=source, TC rate=30.
This has happened 2 or three different times in this (large) edit. I just need to know why it's happening and how I can change things so it doesn't happen again!
    Cheers,
    chris

Sometimes FCP gets stuck on old render files, why, who knows. You can do any number of things to force a re-render of that clip or section of the timeline (lower then riase opacity, toggle the track off and on etc.) Or you may have to delete the render files using the Render Manager.

  • Upright JPEGs Appear On Their Side When Imported To FCE?

I have imported numerous upright (Portrait View) JPEGs into FCE and they all appear on their sides (Landscape View).
They were converted to appear correctly oriented in Photoshop and Preview but refuse to behave in FCE.
I know I can use the Motion window to rotate them but there is a very large number.
How do I batch do it and more importantly is there a way of making FCE recognise from the start that they should be upright?

I have just batch converted the JPEGs to TIFFs in Photoshop and they display correctly in FCE.
It looks as though it is a JPEG "feature" ......... is there any way of handling JPEGs to stop this behaviour or must I always convert them to another format?

  • When I share the video it exports a different version than what appears in the timeline

I've had a really frustrating few days waiting for exports (to Apple Devices) and processing (when uploading to Vimeo). In my timeline appears the properly edited video, but when it gets shared, the video drops clips that I have added, and includes clips that I removed early in the editing process, and gives me a final product that is not my intended video. Please help, need to get this video uploaded for a client yesterday!

Changes made inside compounds are reflected in the project - there is one caveat and I wonder if that was the case for you: compounds, like any other clip, are trimmed to a given duration in the timeline. If your changes made that duration change, you'd have to adjust in the project timeline. For example if you create a 1 minute compound and then edit in its own timeline so that it beco es, say, 5 minutes, it will still be trimmed to 1 minute in the project timeline, and you may have to drag the edges of the clip to extend as much as you wish. This is NOT a bug.
