Jpegs look blurry after crop at fit to screen but are fine at 50%... Why?

I recently upgraded to CS4 and have system 10.6.2.  Jpegs appear blurry after cropping at fit to screen but are fine at 16%, 50% or 100%...  My CS2 version never did this. Anyone know how to fix this bug?
Thanks

Your resolution (in the pic) is likely set to 72PPI. In smaller JPGs when they are enlarged to full screen, they will appear pixelated or blurry.
Before cropping, try setting the PPI to 300.
I had to do this when making PNGs for conversion to icons, because they would blur when converted. I set almost everything I do to 300PPI.

After iOS 5 upgrade my "artists" are all screwed up on my iPhone but are fine on my iTunes. ANY SOLUTIONS?? HELP!!

I had a similar problem to you that I have since solved.
At first only some albums/songs were missing artwork but they all showed up fine in itunes. I went into itunes and did the view where the album art is displayed next to the album in a list, middle option for viewing. I found that on several 1-2 songs did not have the artwork attached and so that was the cause of it not showing up on my iphone. However after I got all that solved I found that the artworks were all messed up. Much like you described many songs had the complete wrong artwork and some songs on the same album had different artworks or the same artwork showed up on multiple albums.
I could only come up with resyncing my iphone to solve it. I only use one playlist for my iphone so that I can sort of do manual management and only have to deal with one playlist. So I unchecked the playlist and did a sync to clear off all the audio. Then I rechecked the playlist and did a sync to reload everything and after that was done everything appeared correctly.
I didn't notice if this was affecting any of my purchased albums, I don't have that many so I didn't think about it but affected a lot of them. I hope this helps in some way and that you can get it working again.

  • Pages documents look blurry after updating to iOS 8.3

I use the iWorks apps a lot, after updating tonight to iOS 8.3 I discovered that the display of all the documents from Pages looks blurry, and when I open a document it looks still blurry, is there a way to fix it?, Am I the only one having this trouble?

Just got off the phone with Apple Tech Support, including a Pages specialist. No solutions so far but there have been other complaints. The initial technician had to look up under iWorks rather than Pages. The Pages specialist is filing a report but suggested it would speed things along to go to apple.com/feedback, scroll down to iOS Apps, select Pages, and file a bug report online, which I just did. The more of us willing to file an online bug report the faster the fix. Be sure to include the version number of Pages (Settings/Pages). I checked other native iOS apps (Safari, Mail, Notes, Calender, Contacts) and they are all fine. I updated my iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 to iOS 8.3 and Pages text is blurry. I did not update my iPhone 5c. It is still running iOS 8.2 and Pages text is perfect. All are running the latest version of Pages (2.5.2). So the problem is definitely with the 8.3 update.

  • Blurriness after cropping in iPhoto '09

For some reason, when cropping a photo in '09, my photos are coming out blurry after the fact.
This was never the case with '06 and '08. Any thoughts, ideas?

Done. Thanks for the suggestion and the link.
For those stumbling onto this thread: the problem is in what might be called the "base" thumbnail. It shows in all views and in the initial Edit view. If you click and drag the magnify slider in Edit view, the initial view of the photo is blurred. When you release in any position but the far left, the blurriness clears, but it returns as soon as you click on the slider again.
I posted it to Apple as a bug. If you have the same problem, please follow Old Toad's link above and report it.

  • Upgraded to 10.3.1 - photos appear blurry in the albumn but are fine when viewed on a computer

Hi - I upgraded to 10.3.1 on my Q5 last week.  When I take a photo it takes a while to appear and then looks blurry.  If I turn the phone off and try again it's fine for a little while then the same problem happens.  I downloaded the photos to my computer to double check them and they are clear on the computer, so it's not an issue with the camera as I first thought, but rather when viewing them.  I have no outstanding updates and I have searched all over the forums but can't see a solution.  Thanks in advance for any help.

can you please take one picture, view it when it is blurred and make a screenshot
and do the same after turning the phone off ?
then for both screenshots, you can attach them here so we can see.

  • I have iPhoto 09 The cover of my book is cropped is perfect on screen but when I print it out it's cropped badly. There is a red exclamation point on the screen image but I have created 5 books and never had this problem. HELP

I am using iPhoto 9 to make a book. The cover of my new book looks perfect on screen, but when print it out before I have it published the cropping is all off. There is also a red exclamation point on the cover image. I have checked and rechecked but to no avail. Can you help? Bill Perlmutter

That red exclamation point can mean either that the image on the cover is below the resolution limit that Apple has set for photos to make good prints or that there is missing text in a text box or there's some text that has overflowed the text box.
The resolution limit that is set in iPhoto for photos is 110 dpi, i.e. the PrintWarningImageDPI value in this screenshot of iPhoto's preference file:
It's not an absolute thing.  Many have reported getting books that had photos with the low resolution warning indicator and it was perfectly satisfactory.
But check to see if it's an image or text warning.

  • My Macbook Pro keeps freezing/crashing after a few seconds of use, but works fine in safe mode.

I've researched this extensively, but I haven't been able to solve my problem yet.
It started completely out of the blue with a kernel panic, where my screen seemed to malfunction and I got the kernel panic message (but I could hardly read it because of distorted graphics). I forced my laptop to shut down, but every time I rebooted and used it again it would completely freeze after a while (the amount of time varied, it has lasted from a few seconds to a couple of hours). What happens essentially is that the cursor and entire OS freezes, and I'm unable to click on anything or use the keyboard. The fans start working full speed and the only thing I can do is force the laptop to shut down.
At first I thought it was a Chrome problem because it only happened after I opened the browser. After uninstalling it, the laptop seemed to work fine for a couple of hours, but then it froze again while I was using Safari. Ever since it has been functioning normally for smaller and smaller time periods before freezing again. I've tried reinstalling Snow Leopard OS from the original disc and then downloading all software updates, but the problem continues. I've also tried doing a hardware test by pressing D as the computer starts up, but for some reason it doesn't work.
The laptop, including Chrome and Safari, works fine in safe mode.
I'm sorry I don't know what specific information to give you about my laptop/OS, but please ask anything you need to know. I'd greatly appreciate any help — I'm panicking because I fly to England tomorrow morning to start university and I really don't want to go without a laptop for 2 weeks while it's getting fixed!

  • Jpegs look blurry when they are put online?

Hi there, a bit confused as when I create logos for clients and even save them at 300 dpi they look pixilated when they are put online.
I am sure this never used to be a problem, am I missing something?
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you for replying. The situation is this: I am working for business who asked for logos in JPeg format. I manage their FB page. I created a cover picture of the logo (sized to the correct pixel size for FB) I 'saved for web' and created a Jpeg at highest res possible (not being resized as I created it at exact size) when I tried to upload it was blurry, particularly around the text. So I saved as a PNG, uploaded that and it worked perfectly.
I met with the client today and she said she had tried to upload the images to her website and they came out pixelated too. I said she could use the PNG's but she asked for higher res images which I can't provide for her as they are already print resolution. Am I creating them too small, size wise? I just don't ever remember having this problem. I have always worked with Jpegs and used to get a crisp enough image.
    TIA

  • Photo Library on Iphone 3GS looks blurry after software update

Has anyone looked at their photos in their albums and noticed how blurry they are? I'm not talking about the pictures taken from the phone's camera but rather the albums that you may have synced on here from Iphoto. Something is wrong! Everyone photo from 4 different albums is blurry yet when I look at the album "Camera Roll", those are just fine.
    Help!!

Same here. I upgraded to iOS 4 yesterday and the upgrade went smoothly but this morning I noticed that all my iPhoto album photos were like in really small resolution because they were all pixelated when I tried to use them as background. All the pictures from the Camera Roll were fine. Some kind of iPhoto sync issue?!

  • PSD file looks blurry after render

    Hey all,
I've got a PSD logo (CS2) with an alpha channel. I'm dropping it on top of video (DV NTSC) with a Magic Bullet filter applied to the video. The PSD file looks crisp on the computer monitor until I render. Then it looks like I've applied a gaussian blur to the PSD file. I'm not working with an NTSC monitor so I'm not sure what's going to happen when I print to video. What's causing this?

The codec you are working with. A nice sharp image, when rendered in the DV codec, for example, will get VERY soft.
But you need an NTSC monitor to really see what it looks like.

  • HT2639 Can you resize after cropping in IPhoto affecting only the area that was resized?

Hello, I have resized an area of a photograph that has people in it.  I want to enlarge the photo to get a better image of the people and their faces. Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Sally

As I am interested in preserving/enhancing the quality of the enlargement, does this require an additional app?
You cannot add information to an image, that is not there in the beginning, even with a more expensive application.
Try, to get as much as possible sharpness and definition into the cropped out section as possible, using iPhoto's adjustments in "Edit" mode. The most promising are the "Definition" slider (that will add clarity and definition, without adding too much contrast) and the "Sharpness" slider. Be careful with the "Contrast" slider. If the face was in the shadows, you could try the "Highlights" and "shadows" controls as well.

  • Images in PS look noisy/messed up, but are fine when viewed elsewhere

I'm having a problem recently with Photoshop CS5 (Version 12.0 x64), where images look bizarrely noise-y and with wrong colors when I open them in PS. However, if I view these same images in Windows Photo Viewer or Chrome, they look fine. AND, if I save the messed-up looking images in Photoshop, then view the new files in Photo Viewer/Chrome, they appear fine, without any of the noise or errors they were just showing in Photoshop.
An update did just recently come out for my video card (AMD Radeon HD 7870) so I suspect it did something or that some settings are now wrong, but I don't know how to fix this. I have tried tinkering with Photoshop's color settings in Preferences, each time closing / re-opening PS with the images in question, but nothing has worked so far.
Here are some examples of what I mean.
Here is an image I created before, how it appears in Photo Viewer or Chrome or anything NOT Photoshop.
Here is the exact same image, how it appears on the screen when opened in Photoshop. However, the distortion on the blue text only appears visibly on-screen while in Photoshop. If I save it and open it elsewhere, it looks fine. If I copy-paste it to a new document, it still looks distorted, but saving/opening elsewhere reveals an undistorted image.
Another example. Original, proper image that I created previously:
Same image, when opened in Photoshop - lots of noise suddenly in the green and blue bars, on the axe, etc.
I did discover that if I opened one of these images and it was all distorted, if I changed the mode to 32 bits/Channel suddenly it would go back to looking normal and without distortion. But I have no desire to work in 32 bit mode, since I want to save jpegs for web use and other simple uses.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Chances are your display driver doesn't properly support Photoshop's OpenGL needs.
There are some very nice features tied to GPU accelerated drawing.  You should investigate whether there's a newer/better display driver available on the web site of the maker of your video card / GPU, and see if you can get better image quality using the accelerated features.  Normally the presentation is a good bit BETTER looking (when zooming, for example) with OpenGL enabled.

  • How to Make Video Fit the Screen? (no boxing)

Hi I have finished my video almost now. However when it is played back in WMV it is like in a letterbox in the middle of the screen. I want to upload it to YouTube so it will look quite small on the screen. Is there a way I can expand it to fit the screen better? There seems to be room both laterally and vertically to expand it. I just looked at the DVD box and it says 16:9 - is this widescreen? not sure. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

hi i am editing a video and in the importing and the sorce box my video fits the screen but in the box that plays what i am editing it fits as a small box in the center with all this extra space around it and when i exported it onto a dvd it just came up as a little video in the middle of the screen. how do i get it to just fit the whole page?
